science. if you show me a single statement i've made about science being erroneous -- >> thank you very much. welcome, i enjoyed our conversation last month in our office and thank you for remembering as you did again today, my uncle who recently passed away, it was kind of you to remember them. let me start asking about children in the safety children. president biden's administration is hhs -- >> we are to take you live her remarks by president trump the plane crash in washington d.c. >> and their families, please.
11:22 am
>> thank you very much. >> i speak to you in an hour of anguish for our nation. before 9:00 p.m. last night, a regional jet carrying passengers and four crew, delighted armies helicopter carrying three military service members over the river in washington d.c. off on final approach to the national airport both crashed instantly and were immediately submerged into the icy waters. the real tragedy. search and rescue mission underway leveraging everything at our disposal at the local,

we are all overcoming with grief for those who tragically perished. we take solace in the knowledge of their journey the warm embrace of a loving god, we do not know what led to this crash but we have strong opinions and ideas that i think we will probably speak to his opinions now. they say we are always investigating three years later they announced pretty good ideas but we will find out how this disaster occurred the shirt nothing like this ever happens again. the faa the u.s. military will have a systematic investigation sean duffy, second day on the

job when that happened. a rate gentleman, these are great people and they are working tirelessly to pick out happened. i am immediately appointing acting commissioner to the faa, a 22 year veteran. thank you very much. appreciate it. the highest standards for those in the system. i change the obama standards mediocre at best, to extraordinary. remember that the highest aptitude all the highest intellect psychologically superior people were allowed to qualify.
11:27 am
that was not so prior to getting there when i arrived in 2016. i made that change very early on because i always felt it was a job -- others jobs, to but this was a job that had to be superior intelligence we didn't really have that. when left office and biden took over, he changed it back to lower than ever before. i put safety first, obama, biden and safety, they put policy. they put politics at a level nobody's ever seen. this is the lowest level. the policy was horrible politics even worse. as you know, last week before, i signed executive order in the highest entered sport air traffic controllers and others, it was very interesting.
11:28 am
a week ago, upon entering office, i signed something last week that was an executive order, very powerful. the highest enters of air traffic controllers. my administration will set the highest bar for safety, our smartest people. it doesn't matter what they look like, how they speak. it matters intellect, talent. they have to be naturally talented, geniuses. you can't have regular people doing this job who will be able to do it. he i do want to say various articles that appeared prior to my entering office, here's one. faa's push focus on hiring
11:29 am
people severe intellectual and psychiatric his abilities. that is amazing. faa, serves people with severe disabilities, the most underrepresented segment in the workforce. they can be air traffic controllers. i don't think so. january 14, a week before i entered office, a big push to put diversity to the faa's program and then another article, before i got to office second term, the faa is active and suffers severe intellectual disabilities psychiatric problems.
11:30 am
these are people, there lives are shortened as of the distressed they have. brilliant people. they have to be in those positions and their lives are actually shortened. a very special talent. a special emphasis treatment hiring, the faa's website, they include hearing, vision partial paralysis from a complete analysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism all qualify for the position of the comptroller of
11:31 am
airplanes pouring into our country. a little dot on the map. a little runway. diversity and inclusion hiring. integral to the mission of ensuring safe and efficient novel. i don't think so. i think it is the opposite. the faa website shows agencies guidance last updated march 23 but they wanted to make it even more and then i came in and i assume this is maybe the reason. the faa overseen by secretary pete buttigieg, a real winner. do you know how badly everything has been run? is a disaster. a disaster as a mayor, he ran
11:32 am
his city into the ground, a disaster now. a good line of bullshit. the transportation, government agency charged with regulating aviation and he runs it, 45000 people running right to the ground so i had to say, it's terrible. a group within the faa determined the workforce was to light and they had concerted efforts to get the administration to change that changes immediately as was the obama administration prior to my getting there. we took care of african-americans, hispanic americans, we took care of everybody.
11:33 am
we mourn and pray and would like to ask all americans to join me in a moment of silence as we ask god to watch over those who lost their lives and bring comfort loved ones. i want to say god bless everyone in this room. this is a terrible imperative time. we will get to the bottom of it. we all have seen the same thing, i've had the honor of hearing this. an airliner coming in doing everything right, the same track as everyone else. for some reason, the helicopter
11:34 am
at the same height obviously when they hit but the same height going at an angle that was unbelievably bad with air traffic control said, do you see? do you see him? is very little time left and then he said follow it almost immediately after, second into that, that was the crash that took place. he had a pilot problem. it was visual, a very clear night, cold but clear as he could be. american airlines, lights blazing all flights on.
11:35 am
i could see it from the kennedy center. that seems to be the primary, an area where the cameras were looking up and will probably see many of shots before too much time goes by but we had a situation where there was a helicopter and i had helicopters. stop the helicopter very quickly and the ability to go up or down and the ability to turn and the turn was not the correct turn obviously. it'd somewhat the opposite of what it was told because the timing was so tight, so little time but what you did have his vision. the helicopter had vision all
11:36 am
the way from kennedy center for some reason there weren't adjustments made. could have slowed down the helicopter substantially. could have gone up or down, straight up, straight down, could have turned what could have been 1 million different maneuvers but for some reason each it kept going and made a slight turn at the end but by that time it was too late. it was the same height, you could have gone under or over. nobody realized it was the same height. it still wouldn't have been great but you would have missed it but what could have been 1000 be higher, 200 feet lower but it was exactly the same height so
11:37 am
all of this is going to be studied but it seems to me i like to use the words common sense, some really bad things happened and something happened that didn't happen. a helicopter going identical direction, a helicopter the exact same height of somebody going in essentially the opposite direction. a track that every other plane followed. i don't imagine, i heard today they might have been following the plan which was pretty close but not that close. you wouldn't be able to see that because of the direction the helicopter was coming in. you had the confluence of bad decisions made they violently
11:38 am
lost their lives. we are going to take a few questions. i'd like to ask our new secretary of transportation to say a few words, john duffey. it's not your fault and i know you agree with me strongly on intellect and psychological well-being. such an important decision and i can't emphasize any stronger. when i first ran, i changed it and we had to have the highest standards he could have and they changed it back. that was biden, i read it to you. that was one of your papers. i changed it back a few days ago. unfortunately, we will see the
11:39 am
people should have been able to see what time you stop so it is a tragedy that should not have happened. >> i would note the president's leadership has been remarkable. we had a whole of government response. when you see that kind of operation it begins with leadership so thank you for that. you've made our jobs a lot easier. we can only accept the best and brightest positions of safety that impact the lives of our loved ones important points, that is the motto of your

presidency of the most intelligent of this base. i want to analysis. we commit them you're going to get to the bottom of this investigation not in three or four years but it is possible. what happened yesterday should not have happened. it did not have happened. when americans take off and airplanes, they should expect to land at their destination. that did not happen and that's not acceptable we will not accept excuses. we will not accept passing the buck. we are going to take responsibility to make sure we have reforms dictated by president trump base to make sure mistakes do not happen again.
11:41 am
i appreciate the confidence placed in me. >> i want to echo about your leadership, the moment we found out we were in contact with. we are going to get to the bottom of this first and foremost underpass or condolences to 60 souls and their families affected by this. nightlights on the continuity of government dangerous things on a
11:42 am
regular basis. tragically last night a mistake was made of some sort of innovation issue with begun investigating. make sure it does not happen again but i want to echo the transportation secretary and you said as it pertains to dod as well. colorblind and merit-based. the best leaders possible client airplanes, platoons part in government. the era of epi at the defense department whether in general all throughout government so
11:43 am
thank you for your leadership and courage. >> i want to reemphasize the president said. there really was a whole of government response indicating yesterday to the bottom of this immediately communicate with the american people about what happened. reemphasizing don't have control over who you are hiring, you're not getting the best people in government but on the other hand it puts stress on the people already there and i think that is a core part want to hire the best people and make sure we have not people who are competent to do the job.
11:44 am
you have many hundreds of people suing the government because they like what they were turned away because of the color of their skin and fat and subject donald trump's leadership because safety is the first priority. >> are you saying the crash somehow cause and result of diversity hiring? what evidence have you seen to support this? we had high standard for the anybody else and there are things you have to go by brainpower, psychological inquiry psychological quality important element in these are powerful tests that are terminated by biden and biden went by a standard that the opposite but we do know you have two plans of the same level this
11:45 am
should not have happened. we are going to look into it. we of the brightest and smartest and sharpest. that's what we are going to have a knucklehead. >> there were several nationals. will they be able to facilitate x there is no air travel. >> with been in contract with russia. >> go ahead. >> thank you, mr. president. the presidential arrangement and bring peace and ability.
11:46 am
i want to hear from you if you have any plans. >> it is a very serious problem but i don't think it's appropriate right now to talk about it but it is a very serious problem. >> do you know the names of the 67 people? you have the ei policies and the u.s. military, don't you think you're getting ahead right now? will think so at all. the names of the people on the plane, you think it's going to make a difference? we are a group of people who lost their lives. we will have a list of names very soon. but that's not a very smart
11:47 am
question. >> do you have a sense of who's all that was? air traffic control, and sure people that it is safe to fly. >> the analysis based on vision, you have a lot of people who saw what was happening and we were given warnings and then there was the crash. it should have been brought earlier. the people and the helicopter should have seen where they were going. i can't imagine people with 2020 vision not seeing what's happening up there. again, they shouldn't have been at the same height. reverse direction or sideways, i
11:48 am
see it all the time when applying, lanes going in the opposite, they are lower or higher so if somehow there is a screwup, there will not be a tragedy. they might be close but never a tragedy if you're at a different elevation but for whatever reason, they were at the same elevation. also from the american airlines, every plane alone. what was the helicopter doing on that track? very sad but usually, somebody should have been able to see and they should have been at a different height. >> what other nationalities were on board? >> there were a couple of others who will announce that and a couple of hours. we have specific information.
11:49 am
not not about this and that will they were successful. >> we issued it a few days ago and we are in the process. this should have been done a long time ago. my order should never happen changed and we wouldn't have had this problem. >> are we going to see the federal government? >> i would say the answer is yes. our people who are not mentally
11:50 am
competent. language is put out by them and you see -- i'm not going to bore you by reading it again but it would be good for certain jobs. >> today you blamed the diversity element that then told us you were sure the controllers made any mistakes. perhaps the helicopter pilots made the mistake. >> it's all under investigation. >> that's why i'm trying to figure out right now the diversity, -- >> i have common sense and unfortunately a lot of people don't. we want brilliant people, this is a major game at the highest level when you have seaplanes coming in during a short period of time all coming in in
11:51 am
different directions and high-level computer work and very complex leaders and one of the other things is that the systems built, i was going to rebuild the entire system and we had an election that didn't turn out but they didn't build the systems properly. they spent a lot of money renovating spending much more money than they would have an companies do a very good job and they didn't use his companies that should not have been doing that. it's very important to understand the jobs. they have to be at the highest level of genius.
11:52 am
>> the implications of the transportation secretary. it's been on the faa. so why didn't you change the policy? >> i changed the obama policy and we had very good policy and biden came in and he changed it. when i came in two or three days ago, i sent a new order to the highest level of intelligence. >> welcome back. mention division issue in this crash and there are some reports the helicopter. >> we are going to know that producing, it may change so it's
11:53 am
very possible that could have happened see that, you could see times better without. >> is it helpful to have your secretary of transportation confirmed? and does this intensify your interest in getting other nominees? >> be democrats are doing everything they can. we are struggling to get very good people and they will be confirmed and we are struggling to get them out faster. we want them out faster. we have been pushing, everyone knows strong for a very long time they would take as long as they can.
11:54 am
they were not very good questions. they want to keep it going as long as possible. i was honored. [inaudible] >> this will come up in the investigation, we don't know. she tragedy occurred. >> you been critical of current regulations.
11:55 am
>> clarify on the continuity. >> i don't know what that will do but they do that, they call it practicing it is something that should be done. it has to be in continuity but it was basically practice and it worked out very badly. >> i would not hesitate to spend many years something like this has happened.
11:56 am
it's something we don't expect to happen ever again. you've already hired some of the people you ready hired for that i'm not blaming controllers, i'm saying there are things a good question like the height of the helicopters and the same level going in the opposite direction but we are already hiring people. the save is flying anywhere in the world and we will keep it that way. thank you all. not a lot of
