when the senate is going to bring their bill to the floor to vote. as soon as the senate gets a bill passed and done, i believe we can move fairly quickly. >> look i'm familiar with this. this is exactly what we did in the house. we brought it to the floor. we pulled it back and broad it past it. it's a bit of a sense of deja vu, i told senator mcconnell i know how he feels. i do think they're going to persevere, we have a promise to keep and the promise we made is we would repeal and replace this health care law. not to mention the fact that the health care law is in middle of a collapse. insurers are pulling out left and right. >> we will leave this at this point and head over to the department of energy where president trump and vice president pennsylvania are about to make remarks on their energy policy to highlight energy week. speaking now is energy secretary rick perry. >> administrator scott pruitt, and we all collectively would like to welcome you to this
3:24 pm
event today. and particularly to the department of energy. we would also like to pass greetings onto the tens of thousands of d.o.e. employees that are watching this. online. many of you know how honored i am to have been the, there's our boys right there. president trump knew what he was doing when he picked us. and then i say that with a little bit of humility. these are two great partners. and they are two people that figuratively and literally are not afraid to take a hill. and i'm proud to be on their team and as i am on president trump's team. leading this, leading this agency has been one of the great privileges and honors of my life.
3:25 pm
as i said, being the governor was the greatest job i ever had. being the governor of texas is an extraordinary and amazing job. but being the secretary of energy is officially the coolest job i've ever had. my short time here, i got to see firsthand, the great work of the men and women of this agency. here at home and abroad, we have an effect literally around the globe with the d.o.e. i traveled the country to many of our national lab, i've seen that the brilliant minds, the amazing work that they're doing. the innovation that's occurring. the technology that's being commercialized, in our goals at the department of energy, are very straightforward, advanced our nation's critical r&d mission. strengthen our national security. fulfill our environmental management commitments, in addition to these smart people.
3:26 pm
america needs smart policies. scott and ryan and i were both talking about smart regulations. not deregulation, obviously getting regulations out of the way that just cost people jobs and opportunities. and having the smart regulations in place. since coming aboard i've engaged in a number of with my counterparts from across the world, i went to the g7 in rome and talked to energy ministers from six other major countries. it's not lost on me and our conversations are about how our resources are so important to the future of this world. right here in the united states, we have an abundance of resources, we're so blessed, judge, tough the resources that we have in this country. the technologies, that can be used to further benefit not only our citizens, but the environment. under the leadership of
3:27 pm
president donald trump, that's exactly what we're getting. >> i know a lot of you, we talked about this out in the hall earlier. a lot of you are coming through this regulately haze you've been in over the course of the last eight years. i know you felt like the cards were stacked against you. because they were. because they were the war on your livelihoods is over, though. it is over. but it's going to be a long recovery. know that you have friends in this administration, people who understand that the power of america, is in america's energy, it's in her diversity of our energy resources. our team is working to right the wrongs, and put us back on a pathway to prosperity and energy security. and helping lead that effort.

a man that i have come to admire greatly, he's one of the most stable, capable, thoughtful leaders that i've had to call a friend. and that is the vice president of the united states, join me in welcoming, vice president mike pence. >> well thank you so much. have another round of applause, for secretary rick perry, who is doing such a tremendous job. here at the department of energy. to secretary perry, to secretary ryan zinky to scott pruitt. to chairman lisa murkowsky, chairman lamar alexander, chairman mike simpson, all the distinguished members of congress and honored guests who are here. welcome to a new era of american
3:29 pm
energy. a new era in american energy dominance. and welcome to an era defined by the pro energy leadership of president donald trump. we're gathered here today as further evidence of president donald trump knows that affordable abundant and reliable energy is the foundation of american prosperity. in fact since today one of the administration president trump has taken decisive action to unleash the unlimited potential of america's energy resources and we're just getting started. in one of his first acts, president trump approved the keystone and dakota pipeline and the dakota pipeline is up and running and the keystone isn't far behind. under the leadership of this president, cole mines are actually reopening in america. cole miners are going back to work and the war on coal is
3:30 pm
over. president trump's been rolling back the clean power plan, he's opening the way for more offshore drilling and president donald trump sent a message to the world that we're going to put american energy and american jobs first when he withdrew the united states of america from the paris climate accord. >> president trump knows that america needs all our nation's energy resources to power our homes, power our economy, and really, to power our future. and his actions in this energy week. demonstrate this president's commitment to putting american jobs, american families and american energy first. so with gratitude for his leadership, unleashing american energy, it is now my high honor and distinct privilege to introduce to you, the president
3:31 pm
3:32 pm
suspect i can say that. it's wonderful to be here with so many pioneers and visionaries from america's energy industry. great industry. i want to thank the leaders of our great energy companies for joining us today and for supporting our efforts to bring true wealth and prosperity to our people. i also -- that's true. come on, give yourself a hand, you deserve it. you've gone through eight years of hell and actually i could say even a little bit more than that. you deserve it. i also want to express our sincere gratitude to the labor union leaders and members who have joined us today. thank you, fellows, thank you. your workers embody the skill, grit and courage that has always been the true source of american strength. they are great people.
3:33 pm
they break through rock walls, mine the depths of the earth and reach through the ocean floor to bring every ounce of energy into our homes and commerce and in a our lives. our nation salutes you, you are brave and you are great workers, thank you very much. thank you, fellows. before turning to the topic at hand, i want to provide a brief update on two crucial votes taking place this afternoon on the house floor. very important. these bills are vital to public safety and national security. and i want to thank chairman bob goodlatt for his efforts. bob has been working very hard. and really for a long time. we got it going. first the house will be voting on kate's law, legislation named for kate steinly who was killed by an illegal immigrant with
3:34 pm
five prior deportations and lots of bad things on his record. the second is the no sapnctuary for criminals act. to cities that release dangerous criminal aliens back into the streets, includie ing the vicio and disgusting and horrible ms-13 gang members, and we're getting them out. we're getting them out. they're going, fast. >> general kelly and his whole group, they've gotten rid of 6,000 so far. we're about 50% there and we're actually liberating towns like on long island where i grew up. we're liberating towns. those people are so happy to see our guys, and our guys are a lot tougher than the ms-13 characters, that i can tell you. liberation. i'm calling on all lawmakers to
3:35 pm
put the safety of american families first. and let's pass these bills through the house, through the senate. and send them to my desk. i will give you the fastest approval. the fastest signature that you have ever seen. we will get that signed so fast. and so when we get back, the first thing i'm going to do is how did we do on the vote? i expect good things, otherwise we probably wouldn't be talking about it right now. to be honest with you. i don't like losing, i don't like losing, neither do you folks. every member of congress should vote. to save american lives. many great members of congress are here with us this afternoon. some great people, some great, great people, thank you very much. not only are they working with us on border security, but they share a desire to unleash american energy. i especially want to thank
3:36 pm
secretary perry for his tremendous leadership in this department. he has really done a terrific job, he's also a cheerleader. i watched that in texas. the thing i loved about him, he was always saying how great texas was. and if you don't say it, i don't know -- you got to say it, right? you're doing it right now with energy. that's true. along with secretary of the interior, ryan zincy and epa administrator, scott pruitt. and we've been in a battle with the world and now the world is starting to say, i think they're right. we have no doubt. but all three of them strongly believe putting america first, which is what i believe in. which is why i got elected. it's called make america great again. make america great again. we're here today to usher in a new american energy policy. one that unlocks millions and millions of jobs and trillions of dollars in wealth.
3:37 pm
for over 40 years, america was vulnerable to foreign regimes. that used energy as an economic weapon. americans' quality of life was diminished by the idea that energy resources were too scarce to support our people. we always thought that and actually at the time it was right to think, we didn't think we had this tremendous wealth under our feet. many of us remember the long gas lines and the constant claims that the world was running out of oil and natural gas. americans were told that our nation could only solve this energy crisis by imposing draconian restrictions on energy production. but we now know that was all a big, beautiful myth. it was fake. don't we love that term? fake. what we've learned about fake over the last little while.
3:38 pm
fake news. cnn. fake. whoops, the camera just went off. can you come back, i won't say it. i promise i won't say anything more about you. i see the red light go off. i say, whoa. the truth is, that we have near limitless supplies of energy in our country. powered by new innovation and technology, we are now on the cusp of a true energy revolution. our country is blessed with extraordinary energy abundance. which we didn't know of even five years ago and certainly ten years ago. we have nearly 100 years worth of natural gas and more than 250 years worth of clean, beautiful coal. we are a top producer of petroleum and the number one producer of natural gas.
3:39 pm
we have so much more than we ever thought possible. we are really in the driving seat. and you know what, we don't want to let other countries take away our sovereignty and tell us what to do and how to do it. that's not going to happen. with these incredible resources, my administration will seek not only the american energy and dependence that we've been looking for for so long. but american energy dominance. and we're going to be an exporter, exporter. >> we will be dominant. we will export american energy all over the world. all around the globe. these energy experts will create countless jobs for our people and provide true energy security to our friends, partners and allies all across the globe. but this full potential can only be realized when government
3:40 pm
promotes energy development, that's this guy right here. he'll do it better than anybody. instead of obstructing it. like the democrats, they obstruct it but we get through it. we cannot have obstruction. we have to get out and do our job better and faster than anybody in the world. certainly when it comes to one of our great assets. energy. this vast energy wealth does not belong to the government. it belongs to the people of the united states of america. yet for the past eight years the federal government imposed massive job-killing barriers to american energy development. since my very first day in office, i have been moving at record pace to cancel these regulations and to eliminate the barriers to domestic energy production. like never before.
3:41 pm
job-killing regulations are being removed. and vital infrastructure projects are being approved at a level that they've never seen before. as you all know i approved the keystone xl pipeline and the dakota access pipeline in my first week. thousands of jobs, tremendous things are happening. and by the way. i thought i take a lot of heat. i didn't take any heat. i approved them that was it. i figured we would have all sorts of protests, we didn't have anything. but i have to do, whether it's protesting or not. i have to do what's right. but people celebrate those two transactions as opposed to protests. sometimes you have to go out and just do it. and you find out whatever happens, happens. but you have to be right for the american people.
3:42 pm
i'm dramatically reducing the restrictions on the development of natural gas. i cancelled a moratorium on new coal leasing. you know what's happening, the new coal leasing on federal lands, it was being so terribly restricted. now with ryan and the group, it's going to be open and the land will be left in better shape than it is right now. is that right? better shape. we've finally ended war on coal. that a company just opened a brand new coal mine in the state of pennsylvania, the first one in many, many years. corsa, stand up. come on, congratulations. congratulations. >> blowing a lot of people and we are putting the coal miners back to work.
3:43 pm
just like i promised, when i went through ohio and west virginia, wyoming and all of the different places. i see bob back there. congratulations, bob, he's in great shape. right? are you in good shape, bob? right from the beginning. you just take care of yourself. all right? we're ending the intrusive epa regulations that kill jobs, hurt family farmers and ranchers and raised price of energy so quickly and so substantially. in order to protect american jobs. companies and workers, we've withdrawn the united states from the onesided paris climate accord. >> i won't get into it, but believe me that really put this country at a disadvantage. number one, we weren't playing on the same field. it kicked in for us. and it doesn't kick in for others. the money that we had to pay was
3:44 pm
enormous. it was not even close. and maybe we'll be back into it someday, but it will be on better terms, fairer terms, not on terms where we're the people that don't know what we're doing. we'll see what happens. but i will tell you we're very proud of it. and when i go around, there's so many people that say thank you, you saved the sovereignty of our country. you saved our wealth. because we would have a hard time getting to this new-found wealth and it's not going to happen with our country. today i am proudly announcing six brand-new initiatives to propel this new era of american energy dominance. first we will begin to revive and expand our nuclear energy sector, which i'm so happy about. which produces clean renewable and emissions-free energy. a complete review of u.s.
3:45 pm
nuclear energy policy will help us find new ways to revitalize this crucial energy resource. and i know you're very excited about that. second, the department of the treasury will address barriers, to the financing of highly efficient overseas coal energy plants. ukraine already tells us, they need millions and millions of med ric tons right now. there are many other places that need it, too. we will sell it to them and everyone else 0 all over the globe who need it. my administration has just approved the construction of a new petroleum pipeline to mexico. which will further boost american energy exports. it will go under the wall. have to go down a little deeper. fourth just today, a major u.s.
3:46 pm
company, signed an agreement to begin negotiations for the sale of more american natural gas to south korea. and as you know, the leaderser of south korea are coming to the white house today. and we have a lot of discussion to do. we will also be talking about them buying energy from the united states of america. and i'm sure they'll like to do it. they need it. thank you. fifth, the united states' department of energy is announcing today it will approve two long-term applications to export additional natural gas from the lake charles lng terminal in louisiana. it's going to be a big deal. great announcement. finally, in order to unlock more energy from the 94% of offshore land closed to development, under the previous administration, so much of our land was closed to development. we're opening it up.
3:47 pm
the right areas, we're opening it up. we're creating a new offshore oil and gas leasing program. america will be allowed to access the vast energy wealth located right off our shores. this is all just the beginning, believe me. the golden era of american energy is now under way. i'll go a step further. the golden era of america is now under way. believe me. and you're all going to be part of this in creating this exciting new future. we will bring new opportunity to the heartland. new prosperity to our inner cities and new infrastructure all across our nation. when it comes to the future of america's energy needs, we will find it, we will dream it, and
3:48 pm
we will build it. american energy will power our ships. our planes, and our cities. american hands will bend the steel and pour the concrete that brings this energy into our homes. and that exports this incredible new-found energy all around the world. and american grit will insure that what we dream and what we build will truly be second to none. we will be number one again. all the way. going to make america great again. thank you, god bless you and god bless america. thank you. thank you very much.
3:49 pm
president trump and vice president pence at the department of energy, celebrating energy week. while earlier today, president trump tweeted out, i heard poorly-rated morning joe speaks badly of me, don't watch it any more, how come low iq crazy mika along with psycho-joe came to mar-a-lago three nights in a row on new year's eve and insisted on joining me? she was bleeding badly from a face lift. i said no. a number of democratic women house members held a press conference this afternoon to offer their reaction to the president's tweets. here's a look.
