nominee as a woman to be president and last night, won the popular vote of america. that is an amazing accomplishment. it is an amazing accomplishment. i am proud of hillary clinton because she has held fast to dreams. age,as inspired at a young an epiphany that if families and children did well, that is the best barometer for whether society does well and in everything she has done, she is focused on that. we know she would have made history as president in one sense, but we have never had a

president whose entire family -- entire career was made about the empowerment of children and families. i was excited to have her there and make history as the first women -- first woman president. i am proud of her because she has made such a wonderful team. there is a beautiful and comical parable in the new testament about a vineyard owners who hires people to work and says i will pay you this for a full day, then he hires people at noon and says i will pay you the same thing for a half day and those who started earlier the day say hold on, we don't like that you are treating everybody who came late just as well as us. here is what i have come to know so well about hillary clinton. the team that she has assembled over the years are people that are so deeply loyal to her because she is so loyal to them,

it is inspiring. i have seen that same degree of loyalty and compassion and sensitivity extended to the most recent folks who joined the team , the folks you came to the vineyard with just one hour to go. for loyalty and compassion to people, if they are with you, they are with you and that is remarkable. i am proud of her because she loves this country. nobody had to wonder about hillary clinton, whether she would accept an outcome of an election and our democracy, nobody had to ask. nobody had to doubt. she knows our country for what it is. she knows the system that we have. she is deeply in love with it and she accepts it.

she has been in bottles before where if it did not go her way, she accepted it and woke up the next day and that old the dreams she has held fast to. i want to thank hillary clinton for asking us to join this wild ride. about a week before, she asked if i would be her running mate. i went up to westchester and sat down with hillary and bill for about three hours of conversation to try to determine whether the wood -- whether we would be the right people to be on the ticket. when we got in the car back to the airport, i said to my wife, i don't know if we will be on this ticket, but we will remember that three hours for the rest of our life. we will remember 15 days that we have had with this fantastic couple of public servants for the rest of our life. hillary and i know the wisdom

and words of william faulkner. he said they killed us, but they have not whooped us, yet. because we know, we know that the work remains. that the dreams of empowering families and children remain and in that work, that important work that we have to do as a nation, it is so comforting even at a tough time, to know that hillary clinton is somebody, until her very last breath, is going to be battling for the values that make this nation great. now, please join me in welcoming secretary hillary clinton.
