2:42 pm
fall, the white house and congress a list to fix our immigration system -- these reforms are assembled with coordination with front-line law enforcement officers and career public service who know what is necessary to keep america safe. time, president trump and his administration have hosted dozens of meetings with republican and democrat leadership and rank and file members to discuss these reforms and find a bipartisan path forward. based on these negotiations, the bike -- the white house released both membersthat can support. we encourage the senate to bring it to floor. will give the four pillars. securing the borders, ending an extended chain migration, canceling the visa lottery, and a permanent solution on daca.
2:43 pm
it is time we work together to solve this issue once and for all. the american people deserve no less, and with that, i will take your questions. >> first, on that immigration announcement -- is that a permanent solution on daca? now, anders: if i told you it would take away the fun for monday. out thebe rolling specifics of the framework of that legislation that would like to see on monday. i am not going to go further than we have over the last several days. >> you mentioned the switzerland is a weaker dollar -- does that accurately? ms. sanders: currently we have a stable dollar because of how
2:44 pm
will the u.s. is doing and it is as powerful is it has ever been, and therefore it is the reserve currency of the world, and is the official position of the white house. does the white house prefer a strong dollar versus a weaker dollar? we have a very stable dollar, and a large part is as of how well the u.s. economy is doing right now. >> is the president make it a habit of asking officials -- ms. sanders: not that i am aware of. limited ande has it substantial conversations, can get into the details, i wasn't there. there are widespread reports of his retirement, but we want to make sure we are focused on the fbi and the oj and are focused on americans and move forward from there. >> it is a yes or no question. ms. sanders: i don't know what
2:45 pm
was discussed, he did not announce it to me. risa prize that the fbi and the people who work at the fbi -- is trump surprised by the fbi? ms. sanders: he feels like he is the right person to lead the fbi, as i have said many times before, yes confidence in the rank and file members of the f he i. we are not going to let a few bad actors tarnished the entire group, but that is white there.r wray is department is threatening to 23 sanctuary cities, including new york, chicago, los angeles, with subpoenas if he failed to provide documents to show whether local law enforcement officials are sharing information with immigration authorities. house's viewhite on this and the file out from that appears to have an effect
2:46 pm
on the attendance of some mayors. can you comment on that? house isrs: white clear we don't support sanctuary cities. we focus on enforcing the law and following the law, and that is the department of justice 's law. death to talk to the people who enforce the laws, and as long as that is the law, the department of justice will enforce it. >> how that impact the white house relationship with city mayors in this country with whom this white house has question, not only have they worked hand-in-hand on major policies, with particular in infrastructure. ms. sanders: we're left to work these mayors on infrastructure and other things, but we can't have people take and choose what lost to follow. and we have a country with no loss, then nothing matters. we can't allow individual people to decide they will not follow
2:47 pm
the rules. in your own that networks and outlets, and the federal government cannot allow people to work independently and completely ignore the law. >> discover mice framework that you will release on monday, how will they work with republican leadership? we have been working with house and senate members and that had dozens of conversations with them. the framework you see on monday will be born out of a lot of those conversations that we have number of members, both democrat, republican, house, and senate. >> but passed the house of representatives? ms. sanders: we take into account all of the conversations we have had both at the presidential and staff level and thato incorporate that addresses all of the different things that we have heard from various stakeholders.
2:48 pm
i did the legislative package can pass both houses -- >> understand the difference? the difference is, would be passed in one form, but not in the house and my question is do you think you can raise that? to do precisely that? absolutely. we want to see a legislative package that addresses the four things we have laid out. that can pass the house and the senate cap can make the president's desk to fix our immigration system. >> it is different than what you previously discussed with schumer or dick durbin? we think it takes into account all of the conversations went had over the last several months. -- in the next few weeks will come before the special counsel's office to an interview with the special counsel.
2:49 pm
-- toesident be invoking prevent any part of his testimony? can't speak to the specifics of that. i can tell you the white house is been fully cooperative and will continue to do so. invoke the president can -- and as you recall he did not invoke it went former fbi director james comey testified before the senate intelligence committee. theou mentioned that president has mentioned many times there is the collusion. ms. sanders: i think you guys are starting to echo that too. if you can say it more and more on your networks, that would be helpful. >> why would the president invoke the executive privilege that he didn't for the fbi -- former fbi director? there is something the are going to do. i can tell you -- i can't tell
2:50 pm
you the white house will remain cooperative with the special counsel and allow them to work through their process. on immigration -- deposition of theves as a center house and immigrants in the senate. democrats are further west and being switched on the border funding -- what is the benefit of the president being in that position in negotiations? -- theders: the pet president is addressing framework that addresses concerns that we feel brings all of this various stakeholders to the table. at the framework does, and the president wants to lead on this issue, and that is exactly what we're going to do and you will see more details on that on monday. [indiscernible]
2:51 pm
ms. sanders: amaq went going to case, i details of that haven't spoken to him on that specific issue. >> does the president still think michael flynn is still a wonderful man? ms. sanders: i haven't spoken to him on that statement. >> you haven't asked the president whether he asked andrew mccabe voted -- that is one of the stories, one of the leading stories today. ms. sanders: it is not something most americans care about. seriously -- i got any person in america, and frankly, that is what we are focused on. i will let you know. to brief questions, first, a housekeeping matter. it has been reported unofficially that the president will host french president and
2:52 pm
his wife at his first dinner coming up this april. will you confirm that the french president will be his guest? ms. sanders: yes, i can confirm that will be the first visit, the date is still being finalized, but we don't have it yet done, but will let you know. other question is that recently, district courts in thatw have rolled -- ruled -- will not be allowed in the ballot. it has kept them from having a competitive election against vladimir putin. does president have any thoughts on that? ms. sanders: i will have to get back to you on that. >> to comment on the president nominating charles ray? ms. sanders: we don't have any
2:53 pm
personnel announcements on that right now. there have been reports of a commission of a panel to investigate fake news of southern european democracies. a panel to look into fake news. they're trying to protect democracy -- does this concern government looking in to truths and not true? in light of what the president has talked about with fake news, that this is not something the u.s. government should never do? ms. sanders: we certainly believe in a free press, but we also believe in a fair and accurate press. with the president speaking more metaphorically when he promised to build a solid wall that was over 30 or 50 feet high
2:54 pm
along the borders? ms. sanders: the president has guaranteed to build a wall and that is what he intends to do. over the last several years, i know yes top about what it could look like. in some places we have natural barriers that you don't actually need the wall, and in other places it is desperately needed as determined by law enforcement officials and dhs, and that is where rope it -- put a wall. is it a physical barrier? ms. sanders: you will see the details laid out on monday. >> the president has said there's is no collusion between the campaign and russia, is he talking about meetings between officials, information exchanges? ms. sanders: i think that accusation is that the president had helped winning the election, and that is untrue. the president won because he is
2:55 pm
the better candidate who work harder and had a message that america cared about and believed in, and came out in a historic supporters voted for him. it isn't because of a made-up hoax that was created to be legitimized as president. theas the best candidate at right time that america wanted to see, and that is why he is in the oval office today. >> is a reporting from the intelligence committee saying that the the right time that america hackinga -- this he reject that? ms. sanders: he has addressed it, but it does not mean he participated in it. those are very different aims. staying that something is happening is different than having it -- having helped making it happen. oftentimes, that is what individuals are trying to do. himself oring campaign individuals? does it mean no one on his campaign could have done
2:56 pm
anything? ms. sanders: he is stating for himself and anything he would be orart of or know about, section, now it be something he is very clearly laid out the he and his campaign have nothing to do with. >> we talked about the stability -- spokes. dollar, but about the u.s. dollar, and it is at a low. i am wondering if there are concerns about the way he casually talks about the value of the dollar and whether you can say critically whether the white house believes a strong dollar policy. ms. sanders: we also believe in a free floating currency, and that has always been the president's believe. we believe we have a stable dollar, and that is a good thing, and that is why it's the reserve currency, and i'm nothing else to add to that. >> the white house still maintains its commitment to
2:57 pm
representative meadows that they would have consultation and sign off on any bail -- were they consulted? beenanders: we have consulting with both of those individuals as well as a number andther members of congress incorporated a lot of those thoughts and ideas in the framework you will see on monday. one last question. >> there is a school shooting in been 11- there has shootings in schools in the first 23 days of this year are . who we haveng those lost coming said there's a time of place for a political debate. what has the president done in the time since october to try to prevent the shootings from taking place? i think first and foremost, to recognize that any loss of life is incredibly sad,
2:58 pm
and any shooting at any school across this country is something that should never happen. students fearing for their lives while a are attempting to get an education is an acceptable -- unacceptable. the president believes that all americans deserve to be safe in their schools and in their communities. years of increased violence prior to the president taking office. we have tried to crack down on crimes in the country. the president instructed his administration to make the recent crime wave a top priority. some of the things they have focused on is to charge defendants with more crime offenses more than any decade. have charged firearm prosecution and have convicted 12 hundred gang members and drug trafficking organizations in an attempt to create safer and better communities, and safer schools. thank you so --
2:59 pm
much. >> what is the president specifically doing? he said today is that the day, off.anders: i just read willingis the president to pursue to help make sure that the students are safe? ms. sanders: i know the department of justice instructed , it isf to do a review ongoing, and it will be submitted to the office of management and budget. we are going through that process, and it is taking place, and that the same time, the president has instructed that the market of justice to crack time i make the crime wave that took place long before the president took office a major priority, and you are seen that happen. you are seeing the department of justice cracking down on crime, and that is what those results i just read out to you show, that they are putting a focus on that.
3:00 pm
i think they are product of a crime wave, i don't think you can completely separate the two. they are part of domestic violence, and it certainly would be part of a crime wave we are focused on addressing, and you can see some of the things we have done. he feels about this issue, and tried to do what he can to help? ms. sanders: i'm sorry, hold on. be very clear on this, the fact that you are basically accusing the president of being complicit in a school shooting is outrageous. >> i am not accusing the president of anything. president hashe been very clear and instructed top law enforcement agency in the country to crack down on crime and to do everything they can to prevent these types of things.
3:01 pm
