4:00 pm
storm is heading and who may be in the clear. melissa: but first, back to, grabbing for gains, scraping for gains in final moments of trading. [closing bell rings] dow is up about 113 points. closing bell sounds on wall street. here is where we are ending the day right now. s&p 500 up about 10 points. nasdaq composite in the red on the day. crude oil trading higher but still below 30 bucks a barrel. david: lori rothman at floor of new york stock exchange. it looked like it was going great guns and kind of petered out the end of the day. what happened? >> we'll take it, david dow closed up 113 points but. obviously we hit the august 25 lows yesterday many many traders
4:01 pm
believe with the market 566 points decline was oversold. we saw the come back start late yesterday and continue through today. it petered out some and one of the reasons i think it happened, russell, small cap index will close lower off a quarter of a percent. these socks are not as exposed to global economy as larger cap names and multinationals are. until you see confidence come back in those names, earnings will come back, excuse me, companies start to manage their inventory as little better, you will see the confidence come back to the u.s. equity markets. that is where we stand and we'll leave things. i send it back to you. david: from your lips let's hope it happens. lori, thank you very much. melissa. melissa: crude oil inding the day up over 4%, its biggest one day percentage gain in 2016. eric bolling, nymex board member and co-host of "the five" on fox news. we go way back. >> former board them per of nymex.
4:02 pm
melissa: former board member of the nymex. when you were in the pits at new york mercantile exchange, they with ask me why natural gas is up today, eric is buying. everybody followed what you did. nobody knows the market better than you do. what do you think is going on? >> i was there in those pits when oil traded $12 a barrel around 1998 as they were trading away. oil always foes further than people expect it to go. no one thought it would get to $140 a barrel. it got there. on way down it continues to go lower. this is response to inventory numbers. $1.40 higher for oil today. the way markets work, people anticipate, last two weeks in row big inventory builds in gasoline and distillate. this week we had big build in gasoline as well. traders making money pushing oil markets down that would weeks went at it for a third time. there were too many of them. all rushing for same door. oil goes back up.
4:03 pm
fundamentals remain for oil. there is massive, massive amounts inventory of crude oil and distillate and gasoline in storage. that is huge problem for oil prices to go higher. production side is even worse. when you put 500,000 per days additional barrels on the market, iran and other fracking, ease pressure of other demands for oil, we have plenty of oil inventory and demand side of equation as evidenced by gasoline number last three weeks in row. demand for gasoline, product, end result of refining a barrel of crude isn't there. oil prices will go lower. melissa: even more than fundamentals no one knows better than you do psychology what goes on. a lot of time that overrides it and now the psychology is so negative. what would turn that around? >> psychology has been negative on stock market, equities markets and oil markets. they have been unaring in tandem the todayer this up. they were down, down but today they're both up. i looked at 10-year chart yesterday of s&p. it looks horrible.
4:04 pm
a lot of traders who trade the technicals, they look at charts. shorter term chart, three to five years doesn't look as bad, if we go 10 years out, this thing, the market looks like it could retrace into 12 or 13,000 dow. if that happens oil will follow through with it as well. i don't think from here forward, oil is up, market is up, oil is down, market is down. i think stock market will indicate where energy fundamentals go. melissa: you taught me years ago this makes it different than stocks, people out there people don't realize. at end of the month it is over. contract takes delivery. it moves to new one. not like a stock if you like it and sit there forever. that's fine. one day it goes back up what you're dealing with is, this is actual oil somebody will take possession of at the end of a month. the psychology pushes it one way or another, it's an actual physical thing that somebody to take, that makes a difference.
4:05 pm
>> if you remember yesterday we were trading $26 a barrel. all of sudden we're pushing almost $30 a barrel. melissa: new contract. >> new contract. we didn't go up $4 a barrel overnight. we went up 1.40. when one contract goes off the board, we take the next contract month which it is what it is right now. it looks like $4 increase in oil. only 1.40 increase. melissa: when you look out over future months what is the rest of the market telling you? we quote the current contract now but there are months and month down the road. that is also a telling sign. >> when eia reported inventory levels they showed a little bit of a build in crude oil. i looked at five-year average of crude oil where we are now, we have almost 450 million barrels in storage. substantially higher than the five-year average. we're well above where we should be or have been historically. which means there is a lot, let's put a ceiling why oil
4:06 pm
should rally. when you run below a five or 10-year average on inventories you say if demand sparks up we won't have inventory to meet demand prices should go higher. if prices go higher plenty of oil to keep the demand and price is intact. melissa: before you go you called this internally in fox. where do you think it will go? >> this whole call thing, it was a big call this year, in 2015, i'm sorry. at, i really predicted a $35-barrel of oil. at 50, i said 25. 25 i think is a fair price for oil given what we have. that doesn't mean it can't go to 18 or $19 a barrel first. over course of next few months, if not years you will see oil price that goes between a 20 and $35-barrel of oil. there is just really no long term reason for oil to go higher. melissa: eric, thank you so much. really appreciate it. david: not oil, but another
4:07 pm
liquid we're reporting on. starbucks out with first quarter results. let's go to laureate new york stock exchange. i bet by the gallon starbucks coffee is more expensive than oim by far, lori. >> hands down. you're not kidding. shares are down too from starbucks. so, the initial reaction, little bit of a disappointment here. i would put that on revenue which came in a little bit soft. 5.37 billion in the fiscal first quarter for starbucks versus 5.39 billion which is what wall street was estimating. looks like shares are down 2% here in terms of immediate reaction. earnings per share came in better than expected, 46 cents a share rather than 45 cents a share. confirming 2% move on starbucks in after-hours session. you recall we have controversy over flame red christmas cups. you think that has something to do with it? terms of initial commentary the company is reporting a little better business in asia which is
4:08 pm
a real big trouble spot considering all the themes we've been discussing of late but it is still growth. revenue this time year ago was 4.80 billion. to grow to 5.37 billion, moving right direction. starbucks shares up 36% over last 12 months. even though shares are down they're still outperforming broader markets with all the red ink we've seen of late. back to you. david: lori, thank you very much. here to talk more where the markets go from here, scott martin, united advisors chief market strategist and fox business contributor. so, scott, the markets couldn't gain traction today, looked like they would be up well over 200 points. came way down. cut that in half. nasdaq was almost negative. why can't they gain traction? >> one of those markets, david, you get any glimpse, any unlocking of door to get out of your long position you take off, you run right through that door. i think one the scary things or not so constructive things about today was, the rally looked good
4:09 pm
this morning but it wasn't all say puppies and ice cream. you had financials lagging. you had health care down today. consumer discretionary was strong but not as strong as you expect it on a big up day. so the names out there that have been pummeled or continue to lag on these up days. david: some people have conspiracy theory out there machines are doing betting now. that the human beings pulled back and these are program trades kicking in. any truth to that at all? >> yeah. i think when you see these big crazy moves, certainly yesterday and certainly at a couple points last week you had to figure that machines were playing the ping-pong game with each other but here's the thing, david. thing about machines, may be contrary to popular belief at least in the movies, they're not all evil. machines can buy stocks too. on days with rallies likes this, machines can put in buy orders. they just haven't done that yet. david: scott is market betting on recession?
4:10 pm
even if it is not bets on recession could it cause recession by bringing market values down? >> it might. news and information travels so fast these days and impact to your 401(k) is clear an present it can certainly impact consumer spending to the point it could hurt the economy. i don't think it is predicting a recession yet, david, but it predicting problems overseas. we're seeing that in china. david: scott i have to run but i have to ask about apple. one stock, next week they're reporting. they're down 27%. is it time to buy in or wait to see what earnings are? >> i would wait. tough market to buy earnings in. look what happened to starbucks. i think you can get apple cheaper after, scott martin, thank you very much. melissa. melissa: donald trump campaigning across the country today. the billionaire's war of words with senator ted cruz heating up with less than two weeks until first votes are cast in the iowa caucuses. fox business's peter barnes is in d.c. with the latest on campaign trail. peter?
4:11 pm
reporter: melissa, ted cruz is going all-in painting donald trump as former democratic sympathizer and part of the current republican establishment. this came after trump won surprise endorsement of sarah palin, comments by iowa governor terry branstad, that cruz would be dangerous as president because his opposition to ethanol subsidies and sudden reemergence of bob dole, the republicans 1996 presidential nominee. dole said, i quote, ted cruz's allegiance to the party. i don't know how often you hear him say the word republican? not so often. i don't know how he will deal with congress. nobody likes him. cnn -- wmur poll shows more new hampshire republicans like trump over cruz and the rivals by 20 points. here was cruz in new hampshire today trying to strip the
4:12 pm
outsider label from trump. >> look at establishment right now. they're ban an doing marco rubio and rushing to donald trump. so that's where the big money is. that is where the corporate lobbyists are. that is where wall street interests are. and our campaign is fueled by over 700,000 contributions nationwide. reporter: trump embraced dole article by posting it to his social media accounts complicating cruz's argument that sarah palin is of course anti-establishment tea party favorite. melissa? melissa: peter, thank you so much. donald trump's 20-point lead over ted cruz in new hampshire isn't stopping the frontrunner from going after senator ted cruz. >> he was a canadian citizen until 14 or 15 months ago. he said he didn't know that. then he said he didn't know anything about the fact that he was borrowing the money. give me a break. >> don't listen to what any candidates say on the campaign trail. campaigns rhetoric is cheap. ignore what i say, ignore what donald says, look to our
4:13 pm
records. melissa: with the first primary of the presidential race less than two weeks away the texas senator is brushing off the attacks and firing back at teflon trump. alice stewart, cruz campaign senior advisor and republican strategist joins me now. let's get into it. so many things being hurled at donald trump right now because he is so far out ahead. whether calling him part of the establishment, possibly a democrat. what dowhat do you think is thet effective argument if you had to whit tilt it down to one against trump? >> most effective argument he now clearly is the choice of the establishment. we've been in new hampshire for the past several days and we're seeing the establishment abandoning marco rubio, due to his position in support of amnesty and due to the fact he is not viable to win the nomination. so the establishment is lining up, hook, line and sinker behind donald trump. what we've seen this past week in new hampshire, what we saw last week throughout iowa is
4:14 pm
that the voters in those primary process they want a consistent conservative. they want someone who will stand up to the washington cartel, someone who stands up to business as usual in washington. and that person is ted cruz and donald trump himself has said he is deal maker. he is the art of the deal. polls show -- melissa: hang on one second. until now they have been hostile, the establishment to donald trump. feels like now his lead has been so solid and so insurmountable they're trying to hop on the bandwagon before it leaves the station? >> well it's important to note most of the trend of the polls in iowa, which as you indicated that is the first test here, the iowa caucus 11 days from now, ted cruz is leading several of the latest polls. he is up three and four points in the "des moines register" poll and cnn poll. interesting to note the fox poll that came out last week showed ted cruz up four points, that is exactly precisely the time
4:15 pm
donald trump turned up rhetoric against ted russ because he knew he was vulnerable. that his chance of winning iowa caucuses were withering a way. ted has solid ground game and organization in iowa that will turn people out to caucus. melissa: when you look at most recent monmouth university poll, a third of gop question cruz's eligibility to be president. seems like working up rhetoric as you said is working in this one instance. how do you battle against that? >> you're a number expert, melissa, when you come to polls they're a snapshot in time. one poll will not be reflective of the entire electorate, what we've seen talking to people, donald's birther argument here is not sticking. people understand. they heard the argument. they understand the birther issue that ted cruz is a u.s. citizen, he is eligible to run for president, period. end of story. people want to talk, they want to talk about national security and the economy and who will create jobs and donald trump's
4:16 pm
argument on the birther issue didn't work with barack obama and it is not working with ted cruz. melissa: alice, thank you so much for your time. appreciate it. david. david: quite a fight. historic. like it or not facebook's coo sheryl sandberg's new strategy for fighting isis recruitment on social media may have you scratching your head. melissa: what really happened over three years ago in benghazi? we'll speak to the real-life heroes behind the tragic event that inspired the blockbuster film "13 hours." david: which they believe the story, hook, lining and sinker. the latest storm from the weather center. latest details coming right up. >> i drove home from work. i'm not used to driving in snow. it was pretty rough driving home. took him an hour to get four miles.
4:17 pm

melissa: the movie taking the country by storm, "13 hours" is the true story of brave secret soldiers who fought the night of the 2012 terror attack in benghazi of the film is a direct account of the men who stepped up that night even after being told to stand down. >> u.s. ambassador at risk. >> the ambassador is in his safe haven. you're not first-responders. you're the last resort. you will wait. melissa: really an incredible movie. joining me are two of the men who fought that night and inspired the film. mark geist, known as oz. john teigen, known as teeg. thanks for joining you. i saw theater in the packed house. people were rivetted blown away about the whole thing. i had questions swirling in my head watching it. mark, did you think it would be hard to get this movie made in
4:21 pm
hollywood given how left-wing hollywood is? did you run into any snags along the way that they wanted to change anything? >> it was never thought of ours ever having this into a movie, but when we decided to go down the road and got recommended to us by our agent, you know, we set up several interviews with a lot of studios and luckily paramount had courage to do this. we thank them for that. melissa: you say have the courage. seems to acknowledge that you know a lost hollywood is left-wing. john at beginning it says, in very bold letters, this is a true story. not based on a true story. but that really struck me as i was sitting there, that you're saying these are the facts did anyone push back on that part of it? and what are michael bay's politics? did he seem to talk about that with you guys? >> i never talked about his politics. the movie and the book is true
4:22 pm
to what we saw, what we went through and what was said to us and what we said to each other and you know, they, michael bay wanted to get it correctly. he didn't want politics to overshadow it again like it did originally. and you know, all those critics that want to come out and say, now they're saying this, you know what? a lot of politicians they weren't even there in benghazi. it wasn't a political situation that night anyways. but you know, i was told to stand down. told to wait twice. you can, you know -- melissa: those are just the facts of the situation. >> true to what we saw. melissa: mark, as you sit there and watch the film in the theater and time elapse and how many times people call and ask for help, call the military, ask for a flyover, ask for support, ask for backup while you guys are on the roof all night long, clearly the way the movie plays out there was time to come to your rescue. i'm struck at the end of the movie you're finally leaving, a libyan plane, not the u.s.
4:23 pm
getting you out, who do you blame for not coming? and do you feel about the fact now in the aftermath when you watch discussions of this, we know that hillary clinton went home and you know got in bed and turned off the light and went to sleep that night, when you were all calling? >> you know, i've gotten past blaming anybody for it. you know, those that are responsible are those that are responsible. they will have to live with the decisions that they made. the one thing that i know that night is irrelevant if anybody was coming or not, five guys i was with that night, they are the ones i could depend on and i knew they could depend on me. that is what this is about. not about the politics. the movie, the book, we wrote it because honor to ty and glen, ambassador, sean smith, that was getting lost in the spin putting on this story. we didn't make this a political thing. it was brought out into the public not by us. it was brought out into the public by the politicians.
4:24 pm
you know when they quit, when they weren't answering the questions and honoring the americans that sacrificed there that night, that's what really brought us out into writing the book. melissa: yeah. mark, john, thank you for coming on today. thank you for sharing your story. thank you most of all for your service. we appreciate night thank you very much. >> thanks for the platform. david: new emails show the water contamination crisis in flint, michigan could have been prevented. we were talking about hillary clinton, no stranger to email controversy. could she have had emails on her server so top secret even the committee investigating her couldn't read them? >> you notice how positive she is about the president? you know why, right? you know why. because she wants to stay out of the clink.

coverry by saying quote, it is alarming that the intelligence community inspector general, ig, working with republicans in congress, continues to selectively leak materials in order to resurface the same allegations and try to hurt hillary clinton's presidential campaign, end quote. fox news's catherine herridge has details of this story. catherine, that really is quite a charge from the clinton group that the inspector general is conspiring with republicans to smear hillary. reporter: david, very serious allegation. with hillary clinton's campaign team attacking the intelligence agencies, their email review as well as its conclusion some e-mails contained intelligence beyond top secret the white house said that the administration has no say in the matter. >> these kind of reviews that are conducted by inspectors general are done independent of the administration. decisions to pursue a particular review and results of those reviews that are presented to capitol hill are made public are entirely decisions made
4:35 pm
independent of the administration. reporter: though the inspector general for the intelligence community charles mccullough iii is obama administration appointee. his job is to relay intelligence agency findings about emails, not provide his own judgment, mrs. clinton attacked the messenger in a radio interview with npr. >> this seems to me you know, another effort to inject this into the campaign. it's another leak. i'm just going to leave it up to the professionals at the justice department because nothing that this says changes the fact that i never sent or received material marked classified. reporter: the two sources tell fox news senior lawmakers with oversight of the state department can't even read the emails from these highly-classified special access programs without additional permission from the intelligence agencies who ran those programs. the clinton campaign also claimed the highly-classified intelligence is nothing more
4:36 pm
than a forwarded news report from the "new york times" about a drone strike but security clearance holders, david, can not confirm the drone's program existence or expand upon details in unclassified setting like personal email. we were also told today the findings of the inspector general are not just a single email and a single incident. that in fact there are several programs that were affected here, david. david: it is amazing though them pointing the finger at ig. he by the way was appointed by president obama for the record. reporter: that's correct. david: good to see you, catherine. thank you very much. let's bring in sebastian gorka. how serious was it for clinton have the document the on her server? there may have been than one server. go ahead. >> this is enormous. we talked about smoking guns. this is biggest. this is 44 magnum of smoking guns. sap, for those that are not

4:38 pm
classified. david: right. >> it's the nature of the information. david: i understand, sebastian. we get out serious, the question could be so much more serious if she becomes commander-in-chief. >> yes. david: this is again, she will have to deal with iranians, with russians. she is going to be having to deal with all of the secrets that the nation has. that must be of great concern to you and folks in the military? >> yes. for two reasons. number one, this is how she dealt with it when she was simply a cabinet member, how is she going to deal with it if she is commander-in-chief. and secondly, there is the issue of what if anonymous or the chinese access that information on her private server? and she's in the white house and they start to blackmail her, saying if you don't do this with regards to something that matters to us we're going to let out what you really did. so she is eminently blackmailable along with the issue of security of our future information.
