lou: i sat down to talk with donald trump this afternoon. we took up a number of issues ranging from islamic terrorism and our economy and who will be the best candidate to create jobs as president. here is that interview. one year ago you set upon what some call a quic an adventure au are besyncked from he direction. you are in a fight with part of the republican establishment, the democratic establishment, the party and the national liberal media. i have never seen the like of it and i have been covering presidential politics for 40 years. >> ronald reagan went through a lot, but people say it wasn't as bad as this.
7:14 pm
i'll have something where i think it's a big victory day and i'll read by the the next day in the newspaper. terrible news. the dishonesty of the media is beyond belief. and i think the amazing thing is you see the polls coming out today, one of the anchors from one of the networks said, whoa, they couldn't believe i'm right there. i guess we are tied in ohio and pennsylvania and very close nationwide. a cnn poll is an example. lou: at this point that frankly is so early, so many people are writing, this thing is over because we are almost a month from the convention. this is just beginning. >> for me it's just beginning. when i first started with the 17 total people that we had. i started at nothing and rapidly went up. you know, that was not have much
7:15 pm
different other than we had a lot of people. we had 17. i had 1 opponents. i will tell you, i have never seen more unfair press coverage. even the "new york times" where they did the story on the women. they said donald trump is a great guy. it wasn't what we were saying and they were totally discredited. they saw us and sort of in their own way apologized as much as they can. it was a front-page story. how nice were those women to come forward and say that's not what we say, they were remarkable people. so i have great respect for what happened. but it's very unfair from the media standpoint. >> you restructured your campaign. shakeup at the top. is this the reset that you have allowed people to speculate
7:16 pm
about? is there going to be one? and if so, what direction? >> cory did a good job. but he's a good guy. i'm proud of him. i watched how he handled it. it's a hard thing for somebody. he hand it so bully. we got the largest vote in the history of republican politics by a lot. almost 14 million votes, and 37 states. we had big victories. this is different. this is much nastier. i can't believe it. i thought -- you would think it would be easier. >> i thought it would be perhaps easier, but everyone who knew said it would be worst because the precipice so dishonest. lou: is the republican establishment dishonest? >> i will let you know in a couple weeks. i'm disappointed in some of
7:17 pm
them. darrell idarrell issa called. senator jeff sessions is like a rock, he's so solid. ted cruz respects him just about more than any other senator. and he's a solid rock. and there are others. but if there is one that's and little bit out, in some cases like behind say graham i competed against him and i did well against him to put it mildly. wow, he's nasty. nobody ever says he lost. there was a two-week span. people foreget was competing against lyndsey graham. lou: you reached out to him, have you not? >> no, he called me. i respected the call, we had a nice call. then he was nice for a week, then went nasty again. lou: nature is a funny thing.
7:18 pm
>> losing is not easy. a lot of people don't know he lost. >> there is one more for you to beat. and when you talk about nasty, she has a machine that is nasty, effective. tough and tried and tested. she was beaten by barack obama obviously. how are you going to beat her? >> i think you see that we'll do well. i have been brutalized by the press for three weeks, and she has had the best week she has ever had, and there is very little difference in the polls. they thought the number would be a lot different than it is. we have a group of people by millions of people, you saw what happened in the primaries. so many m more people voted than four years ago. i think we'll do very well. i think it will be a beautiful
7:19 pm
surprise. that probably started today. because people thought she would have had a much bigger margin, the margin is very tight. inio it's even and in pennsylvania it's even. i think we are doing great in florida. nationwide we are doing well against her. lou: some reporters in washington covering the campaign took note that this is the first day of paul manafort being in charge. there are actually very distinct differences. amongst those differences are the amount of p.r. releases and statements coming out of your campaign. is that what you expected? >> i have to tell you, paul and cory get along very well. so in that sense, there was not a problem at all. i think i was very responsible for a lot of what took place today because i got -- last time
7:20 pm
i heard her speak, i thought it was an average speech at best. and the press said it's wonderful. she is reading off the teleprompter. i said i have to do something. now she is doing another speech. now when she lies we have to counteract the lie. the last time she kept lying and talking about untreuts. she talked about japan and the military and didn't say the the way i said sit. i said this time as she lies we are going to counter act it. and we did. i did break into her speech a lot. lou: it's interesting you will be following by one day her speech and your subject tomorrow will be hillary clinton. we'll come back and get a preview of what you are going to focus on as you adress former secretary. we'll be right back after these messages with donald trump.
7:22 pm
about a cat allergic to other cats. opening-slash-closing night it hit me: hats for cats. everyone said i was crazy. when i went online. i got my domain, catswithhats.com from godaddy. now these things are fee-ly-in' outta here. got a crazy idea you think you can turn into a success? we know you can and we've got a domain for you. go you. godaddy.
7:25 pm
lou: we are back with donald trump. you will be addressing hillary clinton in a speech. it turns out to be a rebuttal because she went today. >> she has had a very bad time of it if you look at her record. her record is a disaster. in addition to taking tens of millions of dollars from people for lots of different things and lots of different ways, and countries that should not be giving her money or her husband money. we talk about that. and we talk about her record and her record is terrible. she is crooked hillary. she is crooked hillary, she always has been and nothing is going to change. the last time she spoke, i let her speak, and i noticed so many of the things she was saying were outright lies, fabrications. i said this time we'll cover it
7:26 pm
point by point and we'll cover it -- i will do a speech after she is finished. we'll do the speech and sometime later the week i head out to europe, to scotland where i'm opening up one of my international resorts. and i'm having a great time campaigning. but w we want to keep her as honest as possible, which is not easy to do. lou: you are focused on hillary clinton. you are the first republican presidential presumptive nominee to focus on the middle class. working men and women and their families and international trade. the first. and you have a unique appeal to independents as well as to the republicans that you brought into the primary process. where do you take that message on illegal immigration, working men and women, job creation and restoring prosperity? >> wages. just wages.
7:27 pm
one of the most incredible statistics is 18 years people moved less people haven't had a real wage increase. in some cases they are working two jobs and making less money than they used to make. a lot of part time ears because of obama care which is a disaster which we'll repeal and replace with much less money. but i have hit a chord. i make speeches. 25,000 people coming. in houston, texas, they had a line, the longest line anyone has ever seen going into an arena or convention center. i have never even seen anything like that. now we had 5,000 seats and tens of thousands of people not able to get in. but it was covered strongly in whnt helicopters. there is something that we hit. we hit a chord. and people are tired of incompetence. they are tired of being ripped off. they are tired in some cases of it's not incompetence.
7:28 pm
it's the politicians taking care of their friend or corporations. nobody can be that stupid to do what they are doing. we have the worst trade deals ever made by any country ever. we are losing our jobs, we are losing our money and our country is not going to be able to do this. we have trade imbalances and deficits. you look at china. hundreds of billions of dollars a year. we are going to change that quickly. lou: in supporting the middle class, jobs and wages, you are taking on the business establishment, you are take on corporate america. you are taking on two business practices in particular, the offshoring of production of cheap labor and markets and economies. exporting of jobs. the outsourcing of u.s. middle class jobs. how long do you think it will take you as president to end

here because of free trade. it's not free trade. i'm a free trader. but for free trade you need smart people. we don't have smart people doing our deals for us. we are going to do one of the anchors, a good person. i said i want good deals. i want good deals for the people of the united states. that's all. actually great deals. we are going to make great deals. we'll make them for this country. you can call it free trade, fair trade. we'll stop making free trade deals where businesses don't leave and we benefit and make money. lou: talking about up proving, making terrific great trade deals as part of the public policy choice and direction that has to be taken, the second is it seems to me to recognize all of the money that's sopped up in
7:31 pm
lobbying on k street goes for big business and big banks. and small business create the preponderance of jobs. >> and they are forgotten. lou: how are you going to stimulate their business environment to insure they prosper. >> the lobbyists don't control me. if they did i wouldn't be talking this way about china and japan and mexico, and all these countries ripping us. i have thousands of hispanics work for me. mexico is killing us at the border and they are killing us on trade. you see so many companies moving to mexico. what we are going to do, the lobbyists don't control me. i hired many of the lobbyists. they are very good.
7:32 pm
they have the name of the senator or whoever it may be stamped on their forehead. and they totally control these politicians. what happens is it's good for the people of the company that own the company but it's not good for the people of the country. and i understand the system probably better than anybody. i have always been on the other side. i understand the system. we'll make it so our country finally benefit. we are being ripped off by everybody. it made the worst trade deals ever made by any country ever in the history of the world. we lose on everything. lou: free trade, nothing free by the. a lot more on my interview with donald trump coming up. ' more still ahead with donald trump, including how he plans to take on the islamic state and defeat radical islamist terrorism. >> we have absolute animals
7:33 pm

bring out the bold™. lou: trump and i also talked about the threat of radical islamist terrorism in the wake of the orlando shooting and he laid out how his approach would differ from the obama administration. two issues, radical islamist terrorism, a president who refuses to use the word. hillary clinton it appears to me you shamed her into using -- >> absolutely, she was shamed into it. she hasn't used it. lou: she said she had no problem using it. >> that's what she said. lou: but we still have not as the president promised he would, degrade or destroyed the islamic state. we have a country at war for 15

years. we are a nation that has a take a new direction. give us a sense of where we'll be headed under a president trump. >> i was against the war in iraq from the beginning. now they say, he made a statement -- i was against the war in iraq. and from the beginning. because it was going to destabilize the middle east. so we had the war in iraq, it was a disaster. it all started with that dumb decision to go in. obama made a horrible decision the way he got out, by not leaving some troops there, the *. then isis formed, many bad things happened. iran has taken over iraq. among the largest oil reserves in the world. this is even better than saudi arabia. but we have a problem. we have these absolute animals

cutting off head and chopping off head and doing all sort of things with the steal cames going into water and drowning people. this is an unbelievable situation. we have to knock the hell out of them. we have no choice. we'll have to do something now. ideally our so-called allies aren't much of allies if you look. every time a bullet is fired they run. but we have to ideally use them. the reason is because of the power of weaponry and other thing they can do. we might as well beat them over the head before they come over here. hillary wants 500% more to come in than obama and we have no idea who this people are. it's the ultimate trojan horse, maybe. hillary want them to come in from syria or wherever and we

have no idea who they are. we better be careful. lou: what kind of president will you be? will you be an aspirational president? a president young americans can look up to for inspiration. citizens of all ages can look to for a sense our future as a nation. donald trump and security. i would certainly want to be. that would be one of my aspirations. to be an aspirational president. and i think i will be. i thought president obama dish didn't know whether he would be a good president, i sort of doubt it. but i thought he would be a great cheerleader for the country. you look at what's happening. he's just not. our theme is make america great again, greater than ever before. america first. but that's what we want to do. we want to make america great
