we will continue to monitor that throughout the night for you. of course a lot going on the caravan getting closer and closer. will the president have to call in u.s. troops? we will be dealing with it as long as the story goes. i'll see right back here tomorrow night. good night everyone from new york city. kennedy is up next. kennedy: president trump holding a major campaign rally in houston texas for republican senator ted cruz amidst great news for republicans a new poll showing the president's approval rating at the highest it's ever been according to this poll and that some high-level democrats openly suggesting the blue waive might be a red light fantasy. what will it all mean for the midterm elections? we have every angle covered. first let's go to present a live look at that rally. a moment ago he told the packed house why they need to get out to vote two weeks from tomorrow night. >> now the democrats, i can't
12:01 am
speak him i'm sorry. is that the tax cut you will have a big beautiful tax raise. they don't want that. you know, explain that to me. they are for open borders and for massive tax cuts. they are against a law enforcement. they are totally against i.c.e. and law enforcement. they are against the military and not good to defense. how do you win on that platform? kennedy: president trump was not the only one stomping. former president obama was in las vegas where he rails against republicans where he claimed their tax plan is hurting americans in the gop is running the economy into the ground. >> i walked into office 10 years ago and we were in the middle of the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes. i was the last time the other party was in charge. i do think it's interesting, i just hope people notice every
12:02 am
time there's a pattern where you run thing ends into the ground where to come back and clean things up. kennedy: nevermind the economy is doing better than it has in decades. is the democratic message moving the needle in their favor? maybe not. it is the last 24 hours dnc chair tom perez and vermont socialist senator bernie sanders both voiced concern that the blue waive may not materialize. perez said the race will be closer than anyone thinks an sanders said he didn't believe any of the hype at all. moments ago the president agreed with both of them. c about a month ago they were talking about this blue waive. you don't hear about the blue waive. you are not hearing so much. the blue waive is dissipating a little bit. are you guys still talking about the blue waive?
12:03 am
the blue waive. you don't hear about it too much kennedy: as a possible democrats are heading towards a humiliating upset just like in 2016 when the polls told a very different story? joining me now former speechwriter for president bush bill mcgurn is back so we can learn. welcome back. the polling was all over the place in 2016. every metric, every pundit every person said hillary clinton was going to win in large part because people supporting president trump wouldn't pick up the phone. it's the same thing happening now or is that just a republican fantasy? >> i don't know about that. think the senate will pick up the last two seats. you have a lot of democrats running in trump states so i think we are back to where it started out and they think republicans are starting to pull away.
12:04 am
kennedy: republicans thought they were going to lose in 2014. they thought they were trying to lose the senate. >> even he seems to be pulling away in the electorate polls. kennedy: how critical is this two-week period and how much does messaging and intensity change if we can get any more intense. i don't know that i can but how does this window change and accelerate? >> i think a lot or depends on republicans. obviously they have to get their people out but the independence and what messaging appeals to them in the key to either party is to repeal independents in a way that doesn't turn out their base in a way they can appeal to both because i think they will be the margin in a lot of places. kennedy: that's tough because so many of these issues are black or white issues. we look at justice kevin money look at immigration and the caravan specifically. when you look at the economy it seems like you have more
12:05 am
wearable room. if that's the case and you are looking for that sweet spot what is the key for republicans -- excuse me i get so choked up. >> i think the caravan helps the republicans. i am pro immigration in the like to see more generous immigration kennedy: i agree, more not less. it's all over the map and we will talk about this more later in the show from two different respected. what do you think about the fact that the president has made some shift rhetorically on immigration and there is more confusion and that has led to more illegal immigration. >> i just think what people see now a few months ago peoplesoft families being broken up and republicans in different. now i think people see a caravan , people plugging for sanctuary cities and abolishing the i.c.e..
12:06 am
i think that's the message that would welcome independents. the american people, it's lawlessness. i think people want our country to be generous and open. kennedy: it's interesting because both sides think they have an edge here and a lot of it will depend on the presence reaction whether or not he does militarize the southern border. that's going to be an entirely different optic and i think that could hurt him with independents. how does the president play it best at these trying to reach the group of people? >> i think you have to be firm. i think it plays to his strength strengths in the sense that if the issue is the law, just think there's little sympathy for people deciding we are just going to come across the border no matter what. kennedy: it's even for the most
quote
12:07 am
pro. >> people want a lawful means. it. we didn't reach an agreement on the dreamers which i think is doable. they hope that maybe next term we'll be able to do that. kennedy: there it is, i learn with mcgurn as usual. the president has a smile tonight because the new nbc "wall street journal" poll shows the president's approval rating, wow look at that it's reached its all-time high. so highest at 47% compared to president obama's 45% approval during the midterms. the good news for president trump his analysts say his approval has higher approval ratings tend to help his party retained more but in the unfortunate event of an electoral blowout trump will shift away, shift the blame away from the white house not to paul ryan and cocaine mitch
12:08 am
mcconnell. early voting numbers are coming in and voter engagement is huge democrats showing up more than republicans but of the 4.3 million early ballots that have arctic been cast wired all these people rushing to the polls when we have seen so much can happen at any given two-week period? the panel is here to weigh in and it's ladies night. former criminal defense attorney elliott -- along with political analyst for dnc jewel green and she's the correspondent and reporter for national review on line. welcome everyone. let's talk a little bit about the waive that may or may not be. i think it's fascinating that now you have high voter engagement on those sides. >> exactly. we hear so much about the blue waive. it's going to be this blue waive. people are really underestimating just how pumped up people are and republicans
12:09 am
too. i used to think i could predict what would happen and then donald trump got elected president so now i'm hesitant to predict anything. i think if there's a blue waive it's not going to really be a blue waive so much as a blue trickle. i think it might be small. i really don't know because i know because i don't know of i can trust the polls anymore after what happened in the 2016 election. kennedy: i think that's a good point because i think a lot of people have gotten back and they have taken stock in what it means to uses polling data. it's almost like we have to throw the entire algorithm out that we used in 2016 because it was so wrong. can we trust the polls? >> i think they should be thrown out. we should be doing a lot of things differently. kennedy: how do you take people's temperatures if you are going to use traditional polling methods? >> certainly looking at how we can have better conversations with people and not think you
12:10 am
are giving five seconds of airtime to what's happening with these polls right now is that trump has gone back to original recipe trump. he's talking about the bogeyman is coming. he is now thrown out some make believe magical tax cuts that even paul ryan doesn't know about. kennedy: he's also not good at cutting. >> i'm not sure how much is actually getting done in the white house. he's made it clear that campaigning is what he is doing. for democrats if president obama had been effective on the campaign trail we would have lost those seats so good for him but here's the problem. republicans got from the kavanaugh confirmation is going to slowly be forgotten while the president is on stage talking, you don't need it decoder ring kennedy. he said i'm a nationalist. guess who he is talking to? notches nationalist but the white nationalist who have backed him from the beginning. this man is using every trick in
12:11 am
the book to make people vote on fear in this midterm and not hope. >> i think that's how it feels to you and i respect that but i don't think that's necessarily true. i think there's a conversation right now that has more to do with prescriptionism and a pushback against globalism. it's more about economic restrictions than the win went to a bunch of secret who according to you are voting in droves. i think that you are in for a more than it is implied and i think it's a distraction from what could be some better messaging from democrats and your fellow democrats could be be --. >> mr. mcconnell gave democrats a gift when he said oh you know what we are going to start messing with social security and medicare. people who don't want republicans messing with social security.
12:12 am
kennedy: it tends to be the heroes who are the stallions of democracy. this time around you are saying engagement across-the-board across party lines and gender lines and demographics of everyone. >> i think what's interesting is what are we going to see in actuality in two weeks? part of the reason 2015 failed as it failed to capture that crucial last-minute chapter leading up to the actual day and secondly look at tom's byerly investing 33 million the millennial vote including 3.5 in california alone. will they actually turn out? new york city galvanized to go to the midterm elections. is it enough that if the democrats take over the house they threatened to impeach justice kavanaugh and a lot of other things that will ruin the investigation. they have enough to galvanize. i guess that's why messaging is so important.
12:13 am
kennedy: democrats don't have a clever phrase. jobs, not mobs even if you don't agree with it is catchy. all right coming up, not everyone who voted for the president is stupid. >> yes certainly didn't say that. kennedy: a live report on the president's tax-cut plan in the panel returns with much more. bunch of crazy new -- in the case of a murdered journalist. that plus angry reaction from the president and lawmakers on expedia introduces add on advantage,

kennedy: welcome back. politicians on both sides now furious at saudi arabia's explanation for the death of journalist jamal khashoggi and some like dick durbin believe their evolving narrative is a sure sign the crown prince mohammed bin solomon was involved in the plot. watch. >> i believe five of his top personal bodyguards are among those currently accused. his personal bodyguards and one of them said publicly a year ago

i don't move without an order from the executive to the crown prince has his fingerprints all over this and the setting up the investigation makes it totally credible. keep. kennedy: democrats are the only ones pointing fingers. senator kentucky rand paul wasn't buying it either. >> insulting to anyone with any intelligence that round that led to dismember with the home side. kennedy: the president said he is quote not satisfied with the regime's explanation and accept their request for a full month to investigate themselves. particular after one of the killers may have dressed up in khashoggi clothing to leave the consulate and that completed the roost. it's so weird. this is reportedly video of just that. will we ever get the answers to what happened questioning and a

coming from the turkish regime figure member turkey has the most reporters in prison of any country in the world. kennedy: i agree with you completely there. here's the thing though, just because turkey is saying something doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong insofar first you had saudi arabia the said nope we don't know what happened to him. he's probably still alive. now they are saying you know what we killed him. it's not weird? so the fact that they are portraying don't contradict anything that turkey has put out so far. >> no, but when you have allegedly responsible news outlets here in america saying according to somebody who spoke to a turkish official who heard somebody who spoke to somebody who heard about the killing that's absurd. >> i would like to hear from
12:21 am
someone in first person who has heard the audio or seen the video because you note turkey had once of cameras in that consulate and that's why they held the information. erdogan is no champion of free speech or free press. you are absolutely right he is killed a bunch of political dissidents and those who have disagreed with him and therefore we should disavow the turkish regime as well. i don't trust him because he is the millennial. he's also a member of a theocratic monarchy and there a lot of people who say well he has to be removed from power. how do you do that when it's an inherited bloodline monarchy? >> let's just count to 10 and cool our jets a little bit. find out who ordered the hit, get as much as we can. kennedy: you would really press saudi arabia to investigate
12:22 am

open to something better? start today. open enrollment ends december 7th. kennedy: this caravan from mexico is turned into political theatrics from both sides. we know another large caravan of mostly undocumented latin americans is making its way from el salvador from guatemala to mexico. why are they on the marts? summer coming to participate in our booming economy and tight labor market because fewer jobs mean higher wages. others suffer for migratory -- are literally jumping on the bandwagon because he gets a lot of attraction attention while others are leaving hellholes overrun with murder and corruption. it seems no one wants to make honduras great again. that's sad.
12:31 am
honduras has become this hemisphere's clearinghouse for cocaine and other drugs and with all that product to money spilling for such a small state it's only natural that magnet of the black market draws and paints those with money, power. one drug lord has helped put away seven national police officers. the former president's son and most of the banking family. that's all part and parcel of the drug war squeezing well-connected informants to address the supply and of her nation's longest and deadliest money. while it's good for murderous bad guys to rot in jail cells it never addresses the demand in this country but let's pretend the demand will always be here and though we all know drugs are bad if we only address one side of the equation algebra shows us will end up with the wrong
12:32 am
answer. legal marijuana is cutting into the prophets of the american drug cartel and with the vast amount of american supporting legal cannabis there are steps of legalizing the supply further substances is not too far in the distant future. if we want different outcomes in murder rates illegal immigration we are going to have to adjust the means by which we come to different results. the first step to sending the drug war and refocusing the supply chain so people can make transactions without collaterally damaging entire societies seeking constant refuge and that's the memo. a gallup poll shows a wreck high , two-thirds of americans support legalizing cannabis and that includes 75% democrats a majority of republicans, 63%. should america start to rethink prohibition of all drugs as a way to help some of the border
12:33 am
mass? it joining me editor peter suderman. i call him suderman computer man welcome back to the show. >> thanks for having me here. kennedy: how much is the drug wore a factor in this current migrant caravan particularly the majority? >> drug cartels are empowered by prohibition and existence of black markets that if you want put money in the hands of criminals make it so that only criminals can sell and process drugs. that's exactly what happened during prohibition in the united states without cajon is what's happening all over the world with drugs in particular with marijuana. if you want to stop is the first best step we can take it to legalize pot yesterday and then end the drug war. that's something politicians are resistant to do for years but look at the polls, man. this is low-hanging fruit at this point. legalizing marijuana is more
12:34 am
popular than obamacare, then the republican tax bill, the president trump, the democrats and republicans in congress. of course it's more popular in congress. nobody likes congress. kennedy: that is a statement of fact. >> this is low-hanging political fruit that congress needs to start looking at this and say this is a good idea not just because it is a good idea but because it will save lives and raise tax revenues and allow police -- it's a good idea because it's politically popular you will keep your job in congress making laws. kennedy: so let's say we have the drug war and if we do at canada has done and nationally and federally legalize cannabis in this country they can decide how they want to do it and how
12:35 am
restriction is they want to be. how soon would that have an impact in the illegal immigration we are seeing right now? >> i think we would see an impact in ways of some of which would be difficult to predict. this would be a question but we would see impacts within a couple of years. we would start to see big changes but look you can already see changes, you can already see how this plays out in places like denver and seattle, washington but have you been to denver recently? it you been to seattle? they are not hellholes. they are great cities to live in. kennedy: i have been to colorado springs and i have to say lovely cities with nice people. peter suderman, suderman computer man thank you. president trump devils down

how critical is the two-week. not for the midterms and how the republicans particularly with the caravan issue use it to electrify the bays? >> you couldn't invent a better machine for turning out republican base voters than this army of 7000 swelling groups of migrants all over city -- central and latin american coming in and breaking mexico's fences and marching. for the last two years ago are the last year lease conservatives have been trying to push mitch mcconnell and paul ryan to get into fights over the different things by the base. any off year election is going to be a base election and they refuse to do. they said the conventional wisdom is immigration that hurts there -- that's ridiculous and the president is the one who has been paraded more naturally in getting people to -- if you

watch that houston rally tonight the crowd was so receptive to what he was saying. the president was incredibly energized but the president is right that i don't think it's necessarily entirely democrats but i do fall congress because there's so much confusion. there so much chaos that most people don't know how to legally immigrate to this country. >> it's a difficult and long process. i've had employees and friends who have done it. it's difficult and it's long and it takes time. certainly not as dangerous as crossing the border or joining this caravan or riding the train they call the beast. that's the real threat to human beings and this is a real danger. durbin passed convoys of that, but they have been organized by the coyotes in cartel in the same people you are talking about earlier. there's a dangerous element to this. kennedy: they are taking advantage of the most vulnerable citizens who want help and they are getting preyed upon and it's
12:39 am
cruel. although i think democrats really like the optics of it and they want to seem like they are going to help people they don't have the mechanisms for helping them and that just adds to more chaos. and then the illegal immigration. >> during president trump's administration part of that is because of the courts and making it extremely restrictive. for example you can't give somebody the border and say you have to go back to get to bring them into the core system and enter them into the general population. that's ridiculous. kennedy: chris thank you so much for everything. >> thank you. kennedy: the first two protest peacefully but is this peaceful? nancy pelosi harass banker protesters over the weekend.
