team. thank you for covering a range of subjects. that's it for today. have a great week and we will see you next "fox news sunday." ." we begin with a fox extreme weather alert. the northeast is bracing for an unprecedented blizzard as powerful a storm as we have seen make its way across the ohio valley in as many years. >> prepare for something worse than we have seen before. prepare to be safe. take every precaution. now is the time to get ready. >> that storm system as you can see is gaining strength as it approaches the atlantic coast. blizzard watches and warnings beginning taking effect tomorrow sometime after the noon hour. that has been moved up. originally it was supposed to be later towards the night.
4:01 pm
this thing is getting in here a lot faster. 50 million people in the northeast in the path of this thing. many are spending the final hours on this sunday preparing for up to three feet of snow forecast to fall from tomorrow through tuesday night. major airlines we have learned including american delta j etblue, southwest, u.s. airways telling us they are canceling flights scheduled for tomorrow offering winter weather waivers allowing passengers to fly to or from or through northeast to make one change without paying a fee. tracking the storm live from the weather center. when you and i were on the air a couple of hours ago you said you would be getting an update about now. >> we have blizzard warnings in effect for millions of people from the jersey shore all the way up to eastern canada. blizzard warnings meaning that starting tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon it is going
4:02 pm
to be impossible to travel. this is a crippling winter storm that is just starting to get its act together. this is the first feature of the storm. it is a clipper system starting to reach out towards the mid-atlantic. once it gets in towards the ocean that is when it is going to deepen and strengthen exponentially. blizzard warnings all up and down the coast here from 1:00 p.m. tomorrow until early on wednesday. so this is going to be a several-day event. even when the snow is gone we are still dealing with wind gusts in excess of 40 50 miles per hour. that will be blowing snow conditions through wednesday. one to three feet of snow perhaps higher totals in isolated areas. 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts along cape hatteras here in the island, perhaps hurricane force winds. here is your blizzard. you have to have the following criteria.
4:03 pm
visibility reduced one quarter mile or less. sustained winds or frequent gusts to 35 miles per hour for a period of three hours or greater. in some cases we are dealing with that for six to ten hours. an epic event. let's take a look at it. 9:00 a.m. monday morning the snow starts to get into here. the jersey shore lineup towards long island. 3:00 p.m. starting to see snow fly in earnest as this developing coastal low really deepens. you can see right here in the deeper shades of blue that is where we could have two to four inches of snow per hour overnight into tuesday. you will not be able to travel. make preparations now. tuesday afternoon still seeing snow and that is going to continue untowards new england where in some cases easily perhaps two feet to three feet. this is our totals. new york city area is predicting 20 to 30 inches of snow and you are going to also get snow
4:04 pm
drifts. you can't be on the roads past noon tomorrow. it's going to be impossible. you are putting your life at risk. hurricane force winds tuesday into wednesday along the coast and then the possibility of the power being out. we are dealing with lows overnight in the 20s and teens. that is without the wind chill. very dangerous. neighbors have to help neighbors. communities need to get together because this could be an historic event for millions of people. >> we were on a couple of hours ago and you did something i had never seen you do before. you said i'm going to call out beyond the scope of what the authorities are telling us. i know the mayor here in new york city said he will keep schools open. you said no way. your quick thoughts on that. >> you have to take accountability for your children. in my mind if there is a blizzard warning starting at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow and people are being urged to stay off the roads that things could be
4:05 pm
crippling my kids are staying home. it is up to each parent. you have to take accountability for your own actions especially when we have a potentially life threatening event. we'll move on to the other big story or one of them on the staend. the leaders of the world's largest democracy frosty relationship are getting together. there they are. president obama becoming the first u.s. president to visit india twice. he met today with indian prime minister modi. several world crisis are getting in the way of the president's goals specifically terrorism and new threats rising in the middle east. the president was forced to answer questions about iranian supported rebels. two prominent u.s. leaders, arizona's john mccain and california senator dianne feinstein both questioning the white house's strategy at this
4:06 pm
point saying a more offensive stance needs to be taken one that may include some u.s. military combat on the ground. >> so where mccain is right i do think we need special operations in these countries on the ground more than just advisers. and i think we need to protect our allies, israel jordan, saudi arabia and be more pronounced about it. >> chief white house correspondent ed henry is traveling with the president in new delhi, india. the president has a pretty big agenda but the terror issues are overshadowing that visit. >> these two leaders want to focus on what they are calling a new era of trust between these nations highlighting a new nuclear deal and possible trade agreement. this whole situation with terror all around the world dominating the conversation.
4:07 pm
the president on defense at a news conference on the issue of yemen which is now in shambles. remember it was back in september when the president cited yemen as a success in terms of his counter terror efforts. the president's chief of staff did a whole series of sunday morning talk shows and seemed to shift the white house approach to dealing with terror at one point saying that the u.s. is at war with al qaeda which sounds different from what the president said at last year's state of the union. >> we are at war against al qaeda, its manifestations in yemen, manifestations in south asia manifestations in east africa, north africa and at war bound to destroy isil in iraq and syria. >> as we actively and aggressively pursue terrorist networks through more targeted efforts and by building the
4:08 pm
capacity of our foreign partners america must move off a permanent war footing. >> a year ago this month the president was saying america must move off a war footing and then today saying we are at war with al qaeda. a few days ago the president did not mention the phrase al qaeda at all the first time in the state of the union that was not mentioned since 9/11. if you are at war with al qaeda makes you wonder why the president did not mention it. >> if his speech was this tuesday instead of last tuesday i don't think he could have gotten around that because of what happened in yemen. the white house chief of staff i understand made news on another terror story today, as well. >> no doubt about it with isis. you saw one japanese citizen beheaded by isis this weekend.
4:09 pm
horrible images. we have a second citizen. den he rejected the idea that there would be prisoner swap terrorist situation negotiating with terrorists for money. >> we don't get into negotiations with terrorists. we don't pay ransom because that cash then fuels further kidnappings which just continue to exacerbate the problem. >> and prisoner swap? >> we are not going to do that. >> remember what happened months ago with bowe bergdahl a prisoner swap with the taliban troversial for this administration. if that state of the union was coming up this week instead of last week given what happened with isis and yemen in the past few days it might have been more pressure on the president to deal with national security and not so much on the domestic front which was the big focus of the speech. >> always good to see you.
4:10 pm
let's stay now with the islamic state and the isis savages and a new demand by the terrorist thugs as the life of a second japanese hostage is hanging in the balance. instead of $200 million in ransom now isis is proposing a prisoner swap demanding the release of a woman convicted of aiding in a terrorist attack against several hotels in 2005. live in washington. the thugs, the terrorist thugs are wanting to do some negotiating. >> that's right. they want an iraqi woman jailed in jordan for her part in multiple hotel bombings a decade ago. they want her freedom in exchange for freedom of the hostage. we have an update about where possible negotiations are. he says the relationship between japan and jordan is extremely good and the two leaders keep
4:11 pm
visiting each other. in these conditions we are asking for cooperation with the related countries including jordan but we cannot disclose the content of the coordination as the situation is currently developing. as for the hostage already killed japanese prime minister abe says he is speechless thinking about the pain that man's family is feeling. >> we just heard what the white house is saying. what about the rest of washington? >> some of the administration's critics think the white house should be doing more and they don't buy the line that chief of staff mcdonough that the united states would not consider a prisoner swap because he said the united states does not negotiate with terrorists. >> they are negotiating in iran over the nuclear weapons program when iran for 35 years has been the central banker of international terrorism, aided terrorists that have killed
4:12 pm
americans in afghanistan, in iraq going back to the bombing of the marine barics in lebanon in 1983 which was carried out by hezbollah. >> there was no masked man speaking in a british accent but had the same results showing a dead hostage. we will continue following developments with any negotiations in the coming hours and days. >> so sickening and heartbreaking. thank you very much. right now tens of millions of people are bracing for what could be a record-breaking blizzard in the northeast. more on that storm that could shut down major cities and leave feet of snow in its wake. and the long list of possible presidential contenders trying to woo supporters. fox news political insiders will join me shortly. they want to say who is red hot at this point and who is not.

to syria. she was going to go do that. there was -- she wanted to meet with bashar al assad and president george w. bush saying that is not how we want to do it. why was it right then? why are the democrats taking exception to what is happening now? >> all they do is play politics. former president carter went to north korea when the clinton administration did not want him to go. those were two democrats. you know the larger point here is that this administration is treating these people like -- this entire iranian thing is a disaster. he didn't mind when david cameron came and lobbied members of congress two days while he was here before the iran deal. >> two things. first of all 67 years israel has existed. i would say this is the lowest
