3:00 am
really wanted, yes, i would pay for the interview. >> you betty would. "fox and friends" starts right now. bye. hi everyone. good morning. today is monday, the 18th of january 2016. i'm anna kooiman. it's a fox news alert. three u.s. citizens, civilians, kidnapped and missing in iraq. the frantic search to find them and the hunt for who may be responsible. and the gloves came off last night. hillary clinton going after bernie sanders full force just days before iowans cast their votes. watch this. >> i think we can do to improve it. but to tear it up and start over again, pushing our country back into that contentious debate, i think, is the wrong direction. >> we're not going to tear up the affordable care act. i helped write it. >> okay. that's on health care. they also talked about a bunch of other stuff. wait until you hear who democrats thought won last
3:01 am
night's debate. >> so a socialist helped write obama care. that's interesting. fascinating. ak thor sean penn admitting his plan to meet up with "el chapo" didn't work out that good. hmm. >> my article failed. let me be clear. my article has failed. >> all right. it's not his fault, though. it is yours. you don't understand him. i'll explain it all. or try to. your mornings are still better with friends. >> welcome to studio e. brian, you and i took off over the weekend and she's still here. >> it's unbelievable. >> wow. >> anna worked about 20 straight days. god bless her. >> i'm happy for the opportunity. thanks for having me on the couch. >> you're doing great. it's one day melds into the next. let me tell you about this, though. we get up to this news.
3:02 am
three americans are missing at this hour and fears that they are kidnapped, they're contractors. >> it comes on the heels of the swap of hostages for iranian prisoners that many say put a bounty on the head of every american abroad. >> that was the word. kristin fisher is live with what we know now. do we know where they were taken? >> they're in germany. that nightmare ends for some american families. for others it's likely beginning. the state department is working with iraqi authorities to locate them. there are reports that they may have been kidnapped but few other details at this time. this comes on the same date that the americans released from iran will be reunited with their loved ones. they're at the air base in germany on route to the united states. all the republican presidential candidates are thrilled that these hostages are finally coming home but they're worried that the president set a
3:03 am
dangerous precedent. >> it reflects a pattern we've seen in the obama administration over and over again of negotiating with terrorists and making deals and trades that endanger u.s. safety and security. >> what the president is now doing, not just here but with the castro brothers and bergdahl. he's put a price on the head of every american abroad. >> rand paul has been advocating for the release of pastor abedini for years. he's pleased that the u.s. government did not sit idly by while an american citizen was persecuted abroad due to religious intolerance. the question is now, at what cost? that's what his republican rivals have a problem with. brian, anna, steve. >> kristin, thanks. we're going to be talking with the secretary of state in this very show. john kerry will be joining us. he'll be answering a lot of those questions. >> the "wall street journal" die secretaries what the president
3:04 am
and mr. kerry did with the deal and what the final line is. iran has shown the world it can take hostages for a diplomatic windfall. i'm paraphrasinparaphrasing. if you want leverage -- now we have the news that three americans have been grabbed. different country, probably the same intent. >> the tone of setting a dangerous precedent. not just for iran to do it again. other terrorist organizations around the world or other governments around the world. >> we're going to see. it's great for the families, we all agree on that. >> the answer to prayers. >> they did nothing wrong. the guys we gave up did a lot wrong. they were in jail for a reason. >> hacking. >> there was a sunday night debate. why sunday night? th wanted it. "downton abbey," big thing on. >> the playoffs. panthers won.
3:05 am
>> here's the thing. they set things up between bernie and hillary, bernie, for the most part, is on the verge of perhaps winning once again iowa and new hampshire. i say once again. because it was eight years ago that hillary clinton thought she was going to win and then, of course, barack obama came forward. >> in iowa. >> in iowa, yes. she's on the verge of losing to the socialist who would like to tax us all at 90% if we're successful. >> he won't admit to that, by the way, steve. he has not released his percentages yet. >> you're right. he's probably 95%. >> if you missed it, it actually got kind of interesting last night. unlike the first debate. here's a montage of them sparring. >> the fact is we have the affordable care act. that is one of the greatest accomplishments of president obama, of the democratic party and of our country. >> what the secretary neglected to mention, not just the 29 million still have no health
3:06 am
insurance, that even more are underinsured with huge co-payments and deductibles. >> to tear it up and start over again, pushing our country back into that kind of a contentious debate, i think, is the wrong direction. >> no one is tearing this up. we're going to go forward. >> he has voted with the nra, with the gun lobby numerous times. he voted to let guns go on to amtrak. guns into national parks. >> i don't think money from the -- i don't get personal speaking fees from goldman sachs. >> that was one of the biggest moments. he goes on to accuse her of taking $600,000 from goldman sachs. >> she did. >> speaking fees. over the course ever one year and saying you're going to rein in wall street and accepting more than half a million dollars in one year, should be suspect. >> as she brought up, no one has gotten more money from wall street than barack obama. >> he's not running this time i. >> that's true. for the last two times he went in and cashed in. i don't think anybody held his feet to the fire.
3:07 am
i'm fascinated by this entire thing. that hillary clinton has her hands full with a 74-year-old socialist who isn't really officially in the democratic party. fascinating look at "the new york times" yesterday, there's panic in the clinton camp. 11 anonymous people inside, including the husband, who goes by the name bill clinton, says we made a huge error. we could have destroyed bernie sanders early. we could have pointed out his radical past and stopped the momentum before it became what we're witnessing right now, which is a serious contender in the first two states who, if you take the first two states, you can get a lot of momentum. >> sure. >> do something in the south and south carolina and nevada and maybe other primaries. >> and beyond. >> the new york post this morning has a headline on the op-ed page that bernie mopped the floor with hillary. he's a socialist. how do he do on social media? >> when it comes to follower growth, people who actually join
3:08 am
different people last night, bernie sanders was number one, martin o'malley was number two and hillary clinton number three. >> that doesn't surprise me at all. hillary clinton, people have known about her or decades. people are curious about martin o'malley. wondering some of the questions asked. what is he running for president? he's the governor of a state. is martin o'malley still running for president? people are curious about him because he hasn't been given april chance to talk. >> no one wants to listen because his track record is not that strong perhaps, anna. here's the question going to your point. here's the top trending questions on google. will hillary clinton get prosecuted? that is troublesome if you're in the clinton camp in brooklyn. why is bernie sanders so popular? that's a fascinating topic. the same people that can't figure out trump can also not figure out why bernie sanders is resonating. >> hillary cannot find a way to tap into that same kind of
3:09 am
democratic rage that is out there. the democrats are outraged at the way the government is working, just like the republicans are on the right. you've got donald trump and on the left bernie sanders who has tapped into something. if the top google search is will hillary get prosecuted and why is he so popular and he's leading on growth, people watched last night and said who is that guy? i kind of like his message. his message is, if you've missed it, the banks are rigged. soak the rich and health care for everyone. >> if you want to know what he's really like, watch curb your enthusiasm which is available on pay-per-view. he acts like the lead. steve hayes pointed this out. they gave the candidates a layup to begin with. the top three priorities. all the candidates went up and down gave the top three priorities. national security was not there. how could national security -- the american people, not republicans or democrats, ever since san bernardino, ever since paris, that has become the number one issue.
3:10 am
it's not theirs. >> different story on the -- >> good for the republicans when you put them side by side. one other note. for some odd reason, it was awkward, they ended the debate seven minutes early. why? >> just suddenly, they threw lester holt threw to chuck todd and he goes, well, thank you. i think we're going to go to a commercial. >> you know what, we're done. >> i have things to say. no more questions to ask, no answers to give. >> thank you for joining us on this monday. heather childers joins us with the headline. >> hope you had a great weekend. go panthers. >> like your tie, brian. >> it matches your dress. >> yes. >> utah police officer, we'll begin with serious news at this hour. he's dead after a car crash ended in gunfire. officer doug barney was chasing two people who tried to leave the scene of an accident in salt lake county when officers say that this man, cory lee henderson opened fire on the
3:11 am
officer shooting him in the head. fellow officers caught up with the suspect and another gunfight broke out. that suspect was left dead and there was a woman with him apparently, also that woman still on the run this morning. debris found floating off the north coast of oahu, hawaii, may be all that's left of two marine helicopters that collided over the pacific ocean on friday. the coast guard says that debris is consistent with the type of chopper that those two groups were flying during a nighttime training mission. rescue crews have expanded their serve to cover nearly 20,000 miles. 12 marines remain missing. federal aid is now flowing into flint, michigan. president obama signing a relief order for emergency funds to help with the tap water crisis that involves lead contaminat n contamination. michigan's attorney general also investigating a deadly legionnaires' outbreak in the city that began in 2014. ten people have died as a result. that is the same year that the city switched its water source to save money.
3:12 am
authorities now trying to determine if there's some sort of connection. and the panthers showing why they are the nfc's number one seed. oh, yeah. take a look. >> end zone. open. leaping catch with the touchdown. >> oh, yeah. for the touchdown. carolina would cruise to a 31-0 halftime lead. 31-0 in their divisional matchup against the seahawks. seattle would score, though. 24 in the second half. how did they do that? it fell short. the panthers win 31-24. over to the broncos, grounding it out against the steelers. not until late in the fourth did the broncos offense pull away. the broncos win 23-16. here is the playoff picture in the afc. the broncos will play the steelers and the nfc the panthers will host the cardinals. each team playing for a shot at the super bowl 50. in case you're counting. >> we are.
3:13 am
now, you are an impartial journalist, right? >> i don't do sports. i do news. i can pull for who i want. >> that's why you wore that color dress. >> yes, it is. >> that's why you wore that tie? >> absolutely. >> i got worried there. >> put all my dark blue ties away because the guys unfortunately were robbed ten times this year. >> coming up on this monday, the release of americans imprisoned in iran. it was a great day for them. but our next guest says it was an even greater day for the iranians. will other countries take advantage much america's barack obama foreign policy? former white house security council official, jillian turner on that next. good morning. dr. oz says he's found a new way to get inside a patient's head. simply by listening to their voice. what happens when we put those two to the test? the doctor is in house to examine.
3:14 am

3:17 am
3:18 am
we've covered all three of them extensively on fox and friends. was it also a victory for the iranian president. does this set a bad precedent for future foreign relations with iran. >> jillian turner, a former white house security council staff. jillian, the president is quite happy yesterday that we got our guys back. is there a flip side to this? >> there absolutely is. as good as a day it was for the americans who were released and returned to their families, it's a wonderful thing for them. the flip side for the american people is that this was really not an even exchange. >> in what way? >> the iranians released four american hostages. i call them that rather than prisoners because they were people not charged with anything, not been tried and not convicted. in exchange, we essentially pardoned seven iranians. three who were convicted and in prison and an additional 14 on interpol's woch list. >> the 14 people on the watch
3:19 am
list, these are bad guys. >> these are bad guys. guys who are essentially going to have a pardon for life now. they're free to roam across the global community at will. >> you said this precedent was set, that everybody acknowledges, that was way counterbalanced the other direction. >> i think that the precedent was set then with a series of what i would call bad prisoner swaps. meaning the united states definitely got the short end of the stick. >> right. we're missing another american. he was a contractor with an fbi background doing some work for the cia. the iranians said we essentially can't find him. bob levinson. >> that's a horrible story there. he's been imprisoned presumably for nearly nine years now. he's the most high-profile and a former government employee. it was really important that we made him a part of this deal and the administration failed to do that. it's a big failing because now we've given up our leverage to get him back in the future.
3:20 am
>> wow. there's a lot to this. we'll have a chance to talk to the secretary of state shortly who worked extremely hard on this, no doubt about it. you're dealing with a difficult counterpart in the iranians and zarif. we have a special treat with you later, right, gillian? >> you'll meet my dog. >> my dog is linked to what? >> my fiance. >> put together that mystery. maybe it will be the trivia question of the day. don't go anywhere. we're locking the door. hillary clinton taking a shot at cops for being racist. >> need to be a concerted effort to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system. >> how is that comment playing out on martin luther king, jr. day? the niece of martin luther king, jr., evita king is here. she did a great job commentating. liberal actor and activist, sean penn talked about his meeting
3:21 am
with the mexican drug lord didn't really work out. >> my article failed. let me be clear. my article has failed. >> why the actor is blaming the american people instead of the international drug kingpin. i'm so confused. price match guarantee. and this? yep! so no monkey business, no tomfoolery? oh, we do have tom foolery, tom. staples has a price match guarantee. make low prices happen. staples make more happen. withof my moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis... ordinary objects often seemed... intimidating. doing something simple... meant enduring a lot of pain. if ra is changing your view of everyday things orencia may help. orencia works differently by targeting a source of ra early in the inflammation process. for many, orencia provides long-term relief of ra symptoms. it's helped new ra patients and those not helped enough by other treatments. do not take orencia with another biologic medicine for ra

surface of the world's oceans. >> sounds easy. sniemts thanks, brian. hillary clinton going off america's cops last night and calling them racist in so many words. >> it has been heartbreaking and incredibly outraging to see the constant stories of young men like walter scott, as you said, who have been killed by police officers. there needs to be a concerted effort to address the systemic racism in our criminal justice system. >> here to discuss this the niece of martin luther king, jr. fox news contributor who was at the debate last night. good morning to you. >> good morning. so good to join you. >> great to have you on this holiday across the country. we're going to talk about martin luther king in a moment. first, do you agree with hillary clinton, that there is systemic racists in our criminal justice system?
3:26 am
>> there is systemic racism in our criminal justice system and corruption of all sorts. we do know that. but my question to mrs. clinton would be, as first lady, what initiatives did you support to maybe help those who are impacted by that system to begin to learn how to read and at an early age and contribute to society rather than ending up in that system? she's playing to a base and doing it masterfully. the african-american base and the emotions of our community and the fear of the broader fear of many people. but i think as secretary of state now and certainly as senator, there are many things that could have been done and i think if she were a little more like bernie sanders, pointing to her record and things that she's really tried to do or even governor o'malley who says he continually looks for solutions and puts those on the table, so i don't want to hear so much about the problems but the solutions. that's what i'm looking for in
3:27 am
her comments. >> so you say there is systemic racism in our criminal justice system. what do you mean and is there a candidate of the three that is getting your support? >> what we know is that at an early age we begin to lose many of our young people, not only the african-americans but several. with the corruption that's there and there is some racism. there's sometimes an assumption that the african-americans are going to end up in jail and so since that's going to happen, let's build bigger jails and kind of make that into a business. that does exist. but there are so many ways to alleviate that without stirring up fear or playing to the base and stirring up emotions and the police officers are usually really helpful in the community. they're there to protect the community in all of that. so to continue to make those emotions so raw, that's the problem. >> today is, of course, big holiday across the country. you are celebrating his life and
3:28 am
times, martin luther king, jr. dr. king, let me ask you about this. you look at black lives matter, the war on police, the political tone in the nation. what would your uncle think about what's going on in his america today? >> my uncle was a man of peace and reason. my daddy, his brother, reverend a.b. king, they worked together to bring about petition. coming to the table with steps of nonviolent conflict resolution. martin said we must learn to live together as brothers and i add sisters or perish as fools. rather that stirring up that fear and anger, we need to learn how to come to that table in the beloved community and put solutions on the table, teaching people to use words rather than bombs or guns or fists. and use their words to heal rather than to destroy. >> absolutely. >> in a nonviolent way, for sure. dr. he will vita king. we remember your uncle today as
3:29 am
we always do. >> thank you. coming up on this monday, the drug ceo known as the most hated man in the world can't find one single person who hates him. really? >> dr. oz says he's got a new way to get inside a patient's head. you got to see this. he says you simply have to listen to their voice with new technology. what happens when we put hillary clinton and bernie sanders to the test? the doctor is in the house live. come on in. nexium 24hr is the new #1 selling frequent heartburn brand in america. i hope you like it spicy! get complete protection with the purple pill. the new leader in frequent heartburn. that's nexium level protection. being hacked and intellectual property being stolen. that is cyber-crime

extreme weather now. a weekend of wicked weather stretching along the coastline in florida. an ef-2 tornado claiming the lives of two people. as folks work there to clean up. >> i was just a couple of miles from there. a winter blast from the north. the first major snowstorm bringing up to 6 inches of snow in some parts. >> maria molina promised to track the storm. have you decided to? >> yes, i have. i always will. let's look at the radar.
3:33 am
we have a lot of activity across parts of the u.s. one of those areas is in parts of western new york. we're dealing with lake-effect snow yet again today. that's going to be sticking around through tomorrow and some areas could be looking at as much as 1 to 2 feet of snow off of lake erie and ontario. we have lake effect warnings, snow warnings in effect across the areas because of the heavy snow. that forecast, we're talking about gusty winds along with the very cold temperatures. now, as we head farther west, we're looking at a massive storm system bringing in areas of rain and high elevation snow from washington state into parts of california. it is going to be accumulating along the high elevations out there. the current temperatures, i want to share with you, especially in the midwest and the great lakes region. out there we're seeing temperatures this morning that are below zero. you factor in the winds and the windchill temperatures are much colder than what the thermometer reads. the forecast highs remain below average across the eastern half of the nation. atlanta and raleigh, highs won't
3:34 am
make it out of 30s out there. meanwhile, here in new york city we're dealing with gusty winds and some flurries this morning. let's head back inside. >> we got power first snow yesterday. it didn't really stick. >> it can kb away now. i'm sick of it. >> 24 minutes before the top of the hour. heather childers without a hat on. >> kicking off your news headlines, massive protests after a police officer guns down an armed robber after the a kfc restaurant. hundreds taking to the streets of st. louis shouting no justice, no peace. police say the robber pointed his gun at the officer, forcing him to fire on the suspect who died. fellow officers calling that cop a hero. >> this act by this sergeant, very courageous because of the number of not only employees but customers who were inside. >> the officer was not injured. no word yet on whether he will be placed on leave.

3:36 am
the kids away. take a look at this. a red dit user uploaded this picture saying he could never play his computer games because his children were always bugging him. he bought this. a playpen. other users chimed in saying it was a brilliant idea. steve, what do you think about that? good idea or not? >> don't fence me in. >> heather, thank you very much. the gloves are off. a tight race causing tense moments between democrat socialist bernie sanders and democrat hillary clinton in last night's democratic debate. >> what her campaign was saying, bernie sanders who fought for universal health care for my entire life, he wants to end medicare and medicaid and the children's health insurance program. that is nonsense. >> i have to say, i'm not sure whether we're talking about the plan you just introduced tonight or we're talking about the plan you introduced nine times in the congress. >> burn. >> dr. oz has a brand new app that can actually determine the
3:37 am
amount of stress in the voice of the speaker. the doctor joins us right now. the innovation officer at the app called share care. good morning to you. >> they were on the program on friday analyzing the republican debate. what was the reaction out of curiosity friday morning into the day as people inquired about share care? >> it was overwhelming. folks are fascinated by aspects of it. you can get the app on your cell phone and analyze how you're being perceived by people around you, especially relatives. you really want to know that. charlie sheen was on the show this afternoon, really going through a lot. just trying to deal with things. he wants to use the app as an example. people begin to realize, my goodness, if i can get feedback on my voice, i can change my life. the political teams are interested for the same reason. just to get on the same page, what if it wasn't just what you said but how you said it that mattered. that's why, we talked about this friday morning, donald trump can
3:38 am
say things that infuriate people but people like that because the tone of his voice, analysis revealed owe he the same thing with the democratic candidates last night. >> we have three sound bites. the first one, watch the right side of the screen. there's a meter and you can tell how much stress is in the voice. here's hillary attacking bernie about voting with the nra. >> i have made it clear based on senator sanders own records that he has voted with the nra, with the gun lobby numerous times. he voted against the brady bill five times. he voted for what we call the charleston loophole. he voted for immunity from gun makers and sellers which the nra said was the most important piece of gun legislation in 20 years. he voted to let guns go on to amtrak and national parks. >> we goes through a laundry list.
3:39 am
it started with uneasy and moved over to intense. what's that mean? >> that's correct. actually, it starts with her showing -- she's being anxious in the beginning. >> does that mean she likes talking about this? >> it means very uncomfortable about getting into the -- >> you can also see it in the body language. she moves in this way. the other thing that you can see here is as she -- the list that she doesn't like about his voting. you can see how the stress changes and the point where her stress is the highest are exactly the points she cares about the most. this is what upsets her the most. >> let's look at bernie sanders defending his record on gun control. watch the dial on the right. >> i was in 1988, there were three candidates running for congress in the state of vermont. i stood up to the gun lobby and came out and maintained the position that in in country we should not be selling military-style assault weapons.
3:40 am
i have supported from day one an instant background check to make certain that people who should not have guns do not have guns. >> okay. so we saw all three. we saw productive, we saw uneasy, we saw intense. what does that mean? >> so here we need to look also at the type of stress. if you compare his answer in this debate to the same question in the previous debate where he was basically giving the same kind of answer, you see that in this debate he's definitely more nervous about this particular topic. as the stakes are higher, his stress level goes higher as well. >> right. we've got one final sound bite. here's hillary clinton defending her former president -- or her former boss, current president barack obama on wall street record. >> i personally believe that president obama's work to push through the dodd/frank, the dodd/frank bill and then to sign it was one of the most important
3:41 am
regulatory schemes we've had since the 1930s. i'm going to defend dodd/frank and i'm going to defend president obama for taking on wall street, taking on the financial industry and getting results. >> okay. owe she was intense there. then calm. and then back to intense. >> right. compared to all other parts of the debate, this topic appears to be her hot button. when you look at the entire piece, when she gives this reply, this is where she's the most stressed. she spends most of her time in the incompetent tentense. the only time it's low stress is something she's fully in agreement with. no conflict there. everything else she's highly intense. >> this is the emotional selfie. it's a window into not just your mind but your heart. it's an important tool. it will be used by candidates and their teams. the media will begin to use it. if hillary clinton is upset
3:42 am
about a couple things, if this is number one, folks will go after it. she'll have to train herself to avoid getting trapped in it. >> you can download it to your phone, so when you talk to somebody on the vote, you review after the phone call, look at that. >> my wife is not going to like that. >> apparently she didn't. >> dr. oz, eric, thank you very much. the app is called share care. check it out. coming up on this monday, liberal actor and activist, sean penn admitting his plan to meet up with that killer drug lord. it didn't work out. >> my article failed. let me be clear. my article has failed. >> why the actor is now blaming the american public instead of the killer himself. that's next.

5:25 am
president, if i've been following the news correctly, and so i'm really going to just address the reality of what took place here. the fact is that we had people that we felt were wrongfully held and wrongfully convicted and then imprisoned in iran, and we also had some people here who had committed violations of sanctions law. we were about to lift the sanctions, and many of those people who had been in prison, we had enforced the law and convicted them and done what we needed to do to enforce the sanctions but several of them, a good number were months away, just literally a few months away from getting out anyway, so we don't feel like we traded something that was critical with respect to a principle. we enforced the law, put them in jail. we also kept the sanctions in place and then we lifted them when the terms of the agreement were met and we thought it was appropriate to get our people home. that was critical.
5:26 am
and i think we did this by the way, iran asked for many of the people, they asked for people with criminal records. we didn't touch any of them. they said no we will not let anybody out who committed murder, any terrorist, anybody else. these are people with sanctions violations. so we feel very comfortable that the united states of america held onto its principles, got its people home, kept the faith with them and i do not believe we have invited further situations any more than everyday that unfortunately is part of the reality of life on a global basis but nothing here encourages it, believe me. >> by almost all accounts i think you'll agree with me that these americans who have dual citizenship in some of the cases were wrongly jailed and we found out about an hour ago they were being tortured in prison through forced addiction and being slapped on the bottom of their feet. in the big picture people see eight criminals convicted, and
5:27 am
we see five americans who were wrongly jailed and we don't see that that is being equal. >> well there is no equivalency in terms of what they were being held for, you're absolutely correct. we never asserted that. there is no owe quif lency whatsoever between someone in the united states violating the law and being imprisoned and people wrongfully held. the issue is how do you get them home? some of them faced sentences up to 2021, 2022, jason rezaian a longer sentence. the question is if you get them out, there had to be some component of exchange and what we gave up we believe were people about to get out anyway and people that we couldn't get our hands on. so i just don't agree. i think there is a rectitude in what we achieved. we kept our principles. the sanctions, by the way, we will continue to sanction if there is activity that is
