12:00 am
commentxpç tonight. jbñ now$'creen right thinkerk[ the wisconsinxa pollsq& accurate 77%edc sr yes. welcome to "red eye." hello, everyone. i'm tom shillue. let's check in with tv's andy levy to see what exciting stories we're going to be discussing. >> thanks, tom. coming up, a company that begins marketing a gun that looks like a cell phone. i would advise not using it when you have to call your cable company. plus, despite my best efforts we'll be talking about donald trump. i really did try. and finally how does tom shillue feel about the current state of country music? knowing him, i'm sure it will involve the phrase not white enough. back tou, tom. >> let's welcome our guest.
12:01 am
she's a shawn tus. look it up. joanne nosuchinsky. and he's from brooklyn. he's the face of gentrification. comedian greg johnson. he's the most rugged hahn since solo. former aide to chuck schumer, christopher hahn. and if he ever gets arrested, he'll have a mean smug shot. look at it. sitting next to me is publisher of the federalist and host of the federalist radio hour, the federalist hour on radio. ben domenech. let's start the show. we begin with things that look like other things. a minnesota startup has gotten heaps of attention this week for developing a handgun that folds up to look like a smartphone. the ideal concealed pistol -- that's what it's called -- has two barrels that each fire a 380 caliber bullet.
12:02 am
according to the company's website, it features lightweight one-piece frame, simple design, trouble-free operation, high velocity, increased accuracy, and candy crush. wow. here's the guy behind the gun. >> since our culture is really very split on gun, anti-gun, you know, liberal/conservative, there's some people that really would take serious issue in the workplace or somewhere else to see, i mean, a gun on you. i think it gives people an opportunity to avoid that conversation. >> yeah, you want to avoid that conversation, like what's that gun in your hand? ben, police are nervous about this phone. should they be? >> i think that the likely result of a phone like this, especially if you use it as a phone, would be to probably accidentally blow your ear off occasionally. but i think -- >> you should use your headphones. >> yes, absolutely. and i honestly think that, you note, the promise with this, if they're anything like the promises that you get from other
12:03 am
phone makers, you know, the accuracy, the timeliness, and frankly, i don't know about you but i'm dropping mine all the time. i might be a concerned that i might be end up using this way in a way it might not be intended or forgetting which pocket is which. >> are contract killers going to now require a two-year contract when they buy this phone? >> i have a life-proof case. i don't think they make one for that phone because clearly it's not designed to be life-proof. >> are you being paid to say that? >> no. >> well, you know what, nothing is dorkier than a holster for your phone, but maybe we'll make them cool again, right? >> i want to say thank you for having me here on "red eye" on fox news. two things, i'm really into concealable weapons. if you come to my apartment, my flat screen is actually a nuke, and my armoire becomes a guillotine. >> the most amazing thing is that you have an armoire. >> you need it. >> another thing is $395, that's
12:04 am
a bargain. i mean that's better than most expensive phones are. if you take that into the veer eisen store, you're pretty much guaranteed to demand any phone you want at that time. >> bring in that and you can get the phone for free, joanne. >> i don't like this. first of all, it doesn't look like a phone because everyone has the fancy cases these days, you know, and the colorful phones. if it came in hot pink, then, yeah, that would like look my phone. also i don't know. call me old-fashioned, but i think a gun should look like a gun. >> you do? >> i do. unless you are a spy. so this man is marketing to the wrong people. he should be marketing to spies, international. >> good point, jo. >> he's got to go to those spy shows. i mean i've been waiting for this for years. ever since get smart had although foldable 2u78s. the ideal concealed pistol fits easily in a purse, not that women would want a gun, joanne. koz mow magazine just posted a video in which couples discuss
12:05 am
gun ownership. mostly it's the girlfriends grilling the guys about why they would own firearms. >> do you have them? >> i do. >> well, in florida you don't need one. >> oh. you don't have a license? >> no. >> yeah, she doesn't believe in guns. >> it's just this extremely powerful death machine. >> i'm just going to keep -- >> all right. here's another couple. >> do you think that somebody who has been convicted of domestic abuse should own a gun or should have the right to own a gun? >> the legality of taking away someone's constitutional rights at that point. >> i think she was sighing in agreement there. are gun owners icky or are these girls boyfriends icky?
12:06 am
>> let's look at one more couple. >> the second amendment, you can't just pretend that the second amendment doesn't exist. i think it's -- >> she's going to need a little more convincing. that's what i always do. i say second amendment. second amendment, baby. >> joanne, what would go with thigh-high boots more than a gun? >> seriously, she looks sexy in those boots. she'd look even sexier with a gun, in the boot, like with a bootstrap. she takes it out of the boot. i wonder what the casting was like for this video there. we're looking for couples where the woman hates the gun, and she berates you over it. like what was that like? and the way they set it up, it's not -- it's not a discussion. it's not a conversation. it's confrontation the way that they're sitting. it's just so strange, the whole way this was done.
12:07 am
obviously women should be for it. i think so just because it levels the playing field. >> there it is. >> it really does. it makes any sort of match-up equal. >> that's right. women should have a gun in case one of these dummies gets out of hand, right, chris? >> absolutely. they should have a gun. as long as they have a background check, license it and insure it. i'm all for people owning guns. i'm not against people owning guns, but i think like everybody else, we should know where they are and you should be responsible for the actions of that gun. so i believe private insurance, if you could get private insurance, you should be able to get a gun license. let the nra sell the private insurance. let them put their big money where their big mouths are and insure no insure anybody that wants to buy a gun. >> i see conflict of interest there. >> if you buy a big ba zuk ca kind of gun, you're going to pay more insurance. if you have a criminal record, you're going to pay more for insurance just like i pay more for insurance than he does
12:08 am
because i drive more. >> at the center of the democratic party's agenda for 2016, i think we should absolutely take your idea and run with it. >> gun owners are not voting for democrats anyway. >> there's a reason why the number of -- the millions of women who have bought guns over the past several years, including many women who frankly used to support people like hillary clinton, who work perfectly fine with their voters clinging to their guns and religion back in 2008. >> guns kill. guns damage private property. gun owners should have -- >> well, obviously, it looks like more of the guys want the guns. the women seem turned off by it. but, look, greg, i used to dream about sitting knee to knee with women and talking about the second amendment. >> so these are vods of cosmo.
12:09 am
>> the last problem with them is they own a gun. >> my favorite part of this is the eye roll. we can't just pretend the second amendment doesn't exist. can't we? >> for the sake of the relationship. >> eye roll. >> she's like random. fourth amendment, she's like as if. >> definitely. that's the way i feel about the fourth. >> okay. now it's time for -- every other day it seems another cell phone video of a controversial police arrest appears in my social media feed. cops are being taped more and more, and they are also getting into the act with many departments moving to require all officers to wear body cams on the job. but a new interactive piece from "the new york times" claims we see what we want to see. i wanted to see if that was true. so i took the test myself. now, apparently i'm in the extreme minority because i strongly trust the police.
12:10 am
then i look to this video taken from an officer's body cam. look, the survey asked how threatening was the situation he faced? i answered, very threatening. then i was shown the incident from an entirely different angle. that is the same -- >> very threatening. >> that's what was happening. it looked threatening. it's not what it seemed. okay. so i guess they schooled me. who's doing that, though? sometimes a cop isn't in danger. he just wants to practice for the patrolman's dance. now, look at this officer approaching a car. >> 656, i'm out with a suspicious vehicle. >> sir. sir, get back in the car! get back in the car! whoa. call for backup. officer down. but the times fooled me again. look. here's what really happened.
12:11 am
the man jumped out because he was trying to get away from a bee inside his car. all that had nothing to do with the officer. it was all about the fear of getting stung. that's right. it's not always a criminal. sometimes it's a guy being a huge wuss. so what did i learn? nothing. i'm pretty pro-cop. so generally i think it's my duty to give them the benefit of the doubt when they're performing their duty. you may not, but as they say, duty is in the eye of the beholder. okay. greg, look, this is happening all across the -- i should say -- okay. look, greg, christopher, it's similar to me. i don't care what answers this question. >> i want the last word. >> chris hahn, what do you think? i mean cops are -- i like the idea that police are now going to be wearing body cams because then we get the full story. too often we're only getting the cell phone of the time of the
12:12 am
arrest, which at that point you don't see -- you only see what the cop did. you don't see what the bad guy did or the guy. >> i'm pro-body cam too. i thought that was kind of a twisted way of discussing what body cams are by "the new york times." i was very embarrassed by that piece. i took the test just as you did. i was in the second category. i tend to trust the police, but i'm in politics. i distrust everybody. so it's just the way it is. but, yeah, i think that's a twisted way to look at it. any situation could be manipulated if your intent is to manipulate the situation, which is what that piece intended to do. >> also what it was showing is the fact that if you at first said that you strongly trust the police, then you are going to see with that footage, oh, he was definitely -- he definitely pushed the officer, or that was definitely a threatening thing because it's all about perception and your preconceived ideas. but that's what life is about. that's how you form your opinions. but i do have to say with the cameras, they're saying it could be a good thing or not. i learned in stage combat
12:13 am
classes in college -- >> go on. >> -- that doing fight scenes for films is much easier than stage because the camera is like one eye. so it's a lot easier to trick the viewer into seeing something that didn't actually happen. so that's just the reality of the situation. >> and i mean those are hollywood cameras. you're talking about these things. they're often like go pro-kind of cameras and you can't see what's going on. greg, have you ever danced with a cop and had it misinterpreted? >> not in brooklyn, no. that's not how the cops act in brooklyn. but i do understand why the police would push back on this. i understand the pressure of messing up. fortunately when i do it, the stakes are a lot lower, like here. lower than the cop's stakes. we're in the age now where everything is getting filmed from multiple angles. >> in a perfect world shlths this would work well, and there would be no push back from the cops. but i understand why the cops are pushing back on this. >> ben, i don't know where you're going to stand. with your kind of libtarian
12:14 am
mind, sometimes you believe in the law, but you also believe in freedom. it's so weird. >> i was in the even smaller minority that never trusts the cops. 4%. but i also thought this was another indication why you need -- body cams are not just about giving you one more piece of evidence. they're also about changing the necessary reactions of the officer who is wearing them. in other words, they're just sort of a constant awareness that i do have a body cam on. who knows what it's actually showing in front of me? that would presumably have a positive and beneficial effect on their behavior as opposed to making them sort of engage in any behavior that might be in sort of a gray area. that's something i think is a helpful incentive for them. they're not a 100% solution, but they do give us one more piece of evidence to look at in any kind of trial. >> it's a trumping piece of evidence, though. most people see a video and they say, oh, my god, my eyes are not lying to me. i'm an attorney. i've been involved with some of these kinds of cases. but, you know, camera evidence tends to carry more weight than
tv-commercial
12:15 am
people telling their stories, hearsay type of evidence or even first-hand account evidence. >> but even with this, the camera -- >> look, the camera lies all the time. look at me on tv. look how good i look now. i'm like 85 years old. >> although the camera does make you behave. look at greg jonhnson, how swee he is on this show. the internet is all abuzz about a new ad attacking ted cruz. it's from a pro-john kasich super pac. they even came up with a new nickname for ted cruz, lyin' ted cruz. >> many just call him lyin' ted. lied about ben carson to steal a win in iowa. lies about being the best for the gop when polls show he can't even beat hillary clinton. his tv ad about john kasich, lie. stations had to pull it off the air. if ted cruz's mouth is moving, he's lying.
12:16 am
>> yeah, many people said the ad was creepy, joanne. i think it was the way they portrayed the nose. it didn't look anything like a nose. >> you know there's a lot of ca cartilage, so it would make sense that it would have that sort of a -- i don't know -- structure to it as it coils around the neck. i think that the super pac should have gone either farther with the whole pinocchio theme. i mean cruz's father does kind of look like geppetto. >> you're right. >> take a look when you get home. he really does. >> and ted cruz is a little bit puppet-like. >> put that hat with the father and the suspenders. >> chris hahn? >> yes. what do you think of this ad? why are they stealing nicknames from trump? >> other than the nose, i like the ad. ted cruz has been the guy who i have been hoping for out of this primary until this week. i think now everybody wants donald trump on the left.
12:17 am
yeah, but i think that kasich still thinks he's got to damage ted cruz to be in a better position going into the convention, and quite frankly i think the polls are going to put kasich in a better position going into the convention. it's going to be an open convention. anything can happen. kasich's going to come in with a bunch of delegates and he's going to probably wind up being the nominee. >> wow. ben, do you think the ad is right that cruz has -- apparently kasich is buying into this lyin' ted thing. so maybe not everything trump says is goofy. >> i don't know that this ad is going to matter all that much given kasich's low level of support across the next couple of states, but i do kind of look at this and add, you know, the elements that have come out of the kasich campaign over the course of his career, which is sort of per in this case etiness, cutting his own hair, and obviously causing trerible nightmares. >> he caughuts his own hair? >> acts of fiscal conservativeness. >> it does look like he cuts his own hair. >> i don't even cut my own hair.
12:18 am
it would be very easy for me to do that. vote for him. >> craig johnson, i want to say, i should stress, that kasich has said this ad didn't come from hill. it was a super pac. he's essentially saying i don't want it. >> more lies from kasich. >> it obviously came from him in some way, shape, or form. ted cruz is not going to be the next president. he's lied many times. just some basic research shows that. in terms of this ad, he doesn't have to worry about being a liar. the only thing he has to worry about is the flesh tube coming out of his face and strangling him to death. >> am i the only one who thought this was a little bit phallic? >> this is the way democrats think. they see long noses wrapping around necks and they think the worse. >> something a little po pornograph pornographic? >> coming up, donald trump gets his own story for once. see you after the break.
12:19 am
12:20 am
12:21 am
12:22 am
live from america's news headquarters, i'm patricia stark. president obama says isis is the world's most active extremist group, and he says as it gets squeezed in syria and iraq, it will lash out elsewhere in the world. the president also warning world leaders at a nuclear summit in washington that the terrorists are trying to get nuclear weapons. >> there is no doubt that if these madmen ever got their hands on a nuclear bomb or nuclear material, they most certainly would use it to kill as many innocent people as possible. >> mr. obama also talking about the iran nuclear deal. the president saying the u.s. and its partners need to clarify
12:23 am
what business transactions will be allowed as sanctions are lifted. he says iran has adhered to the letter of the agreement thus far. >> this deal has achieved a substantial success and focused on the dangers of nuclear proliferation in an effective way. thanks to this deal, we have seen real progress. >> the state department suspends its internal review of hillary clinton's e-mails at the request of the fbi. a spokesperson saying the department wants to avoid complicating or impeding an ongoing fbi investigation. the fbi will soon be interviewing former clinton aides and state department employees. a day off for chicago's 400,000 public school students friday. the teachers union walking out for the day to protest school funding cuts. mayor rahm emanuel says he agrees with the teachers that more money is needed for education, but he says they should join him in lobbying state legislators for money rather than striking.
12:24 am
tornadoes rumble through several southern states, damaging houses and taking down power lines and trees. luckily no fatalities. the storm system also dousing a number of areas with heavy rain. i'm patricia stark. now back to the place where it's always sunny, "red eye." for the first time this election, donald trump didn't make any news today. but by law, we're required to talk about him. trump has had a rough two weeks, but he's still way ahead in the delegate count. on friday, "the new york times" reported that many republicans worry trump has become a kind of a zombie candidate, damaged beyond the point of repair but too late for any of rivals to stop him. newt gingrich put it bluntly say, i think he has a real possibility of having surged amazingly to miss the golden ring. why? he keeps alienating people with personal feuds and what gingrich called junk. i don't understand it, gingrich said. i don't think it works.
12:25 am
maybe that's because you're a newt, not a zombie. ben, you wrote an article similar in tone. trump is taking on water. >> yes. but as i said we talk about -- it's like sports. you know when the guy is -- he misses one putt and all of a sudden, oh, the momentum is gone. it's over for him. i feel like trump is still way ahead, all right? and wisconsin notwithstanding, he may have taken on water, but he's very close to the finish line in that boat, right? >> i'm not sure about that. i think in fact i would actually dispute what you said about him not making news only because it broke probably while we were getting ready for the show. which is he came out after on wednesday saying you need to punish women who got abortions, today he says he doesn't want to change any laws when it comes to abortion. he's managed to offend everyone at a same time. as a unifying candidate, he has unified planned parenthood and the right to life movement at the same time. >> he's more flexible than we
12:26 am
thought. >> the point basically being this. this is the point at which he would like to be unifying as a party and as a coalition. instead he's engaged in all of these completely pointless fights. he's created more damage. he's driven up his negatives, particularly among women. now he's at a stage where a lot of republicans are kind of scratching their chins and saying, this guy could be doomed for the house and the senate. we've got to pull out the stops to prevent him from being the nominee. >> chris hahn, i don't think they're scratching their chins, they're sharpening their knives. there's as much negative vitriol coming from the never trump crowd. i think there's more than is coming from trump at this point. >> yeah. the right wing -- the republican party is out to kill him right now and donald trump has got to understand that he's -- when people aren't cheering for you, they're coming at you. how you react now determines whether you win or lose. now, he has not been shown to react well in any kind of situation where he's got some pressure on him. if he could turn it around a little bit, maybe take some advice from some better people,
12:27 am
surround himself with some better real political people. >> how about any people? >> he's got the worst political people you could possibly have because they are afraid to tell him things. really the only thing you need to be in a political campaign is somebody who can tell truth to power. it's what makes you valuable in a campaign. people need to look at him and say you've got no clothes on. this is what you need to do. if he listens to that advice from good, solid political people, he could be the nominee. he will be better for the republican party than ted cruz would be in november. >> especially if he's naked. >> exactly. i mean trump doesn't think before he talks all the time. he clearly got into trouble with this question about abortion. but here's the thing. the gop would be better off with a zombie at this point because zombies don't talk. they can't put their foot in their mouth. if those zombies on the walking dead walked around saying women should be punished for abortion, it would be off the air. >> they don't want to hear that from the zombies. >> he was trying to think through his head what he thought the movement wanted him to say.
12:28 am
he has no opinion on abortion. >> joanne, you saw that interview. it was with chris matthews, who was really going at him, peppering him with questions, and for a while, trump was turning it around and asking chris matthews questions. it was very crafty. then he got all fouled up. so anyway, you know trump has -- it worked for him for a while. but is it now time to turn and become a little less of trump? >> so in the trump campaign, it's a voyage really. you continue with the ship metaphor and his campaign staff. they're the crew. he doesn't know really how to sail, but he's wearing the outfit, and he's doing it, and people are believing that he can do it. and his staff, his crew, is just cleaning up all the mess, you know. they're not really leading him, and there's cross winds, you know, that he's battling through. and still i almost blame his crew. i blame his campaign staff like get on this. really try to advise him. whether he wants to listen to it or not, you need to help guide that ship. >> yes, there you go.
12:29 am
i mean as i said, the word around the office is let trump be trump. but maybe it's time that you don't let him be so trump-y. >> i want told the statewide candidate that i would throw him in front of a bus before i let him say something, and trump needs some people on his staff to do the same thing to him. >> tough talk. that's what he likes. >> throw him in front of a bus. >> coming up, tv's andy levy is back with the "red eye" news. halftime, next.
12:30 am
12:31 am
12:32 am
12:33 am
welcome back. time to find out what we got wrong and what we missed from tv's andy levy at the "red eye" news desk. i love halftime. >> i want to get moving because i really want to get to the trump story at the end. tom, you referred to chris hahn as the most rugged hahn since hahn solo. did you mean hahn solo from the star wars movies or hahn solo from the fast and furious movies. >> i didn't see the fast and furious. >> the cell phone gun thing. greg, this gun reminded me -- >> andy. >> -- and perhaps it did too a little of the gun john malkovich's guy used in "in the
12:34 am
line of fire". >> aim high. >> i love how thorough you are. you have those two cats, pixels and stormy. you came out as lactose intolerant in 2013. i found out you served in the dmz in korea. and also your college roommate was was da chem bay mutombo. >> so the streak of their never, ever having been a good april fool's joke continues. >> i love you, man. i love you, andy. >> ben, do you think a gun owner wants something they have to unfold in order to get it ready to fire? it seems that could be a big deal in a situation where you need to defend yourself. >> absolutely. honestly just looking at that thing it doesn't look like the sort of thing i'm going to trust. the whole unfolding thing. >> i can't imagine the range is very great either. >> nah. >> so we're not buying that gun. cosmopolitan's guns are icky.
12:35 am
video. chris, you seem to take issue with making gun control the issue that's front and center. >> i'll let it go. >> chris, feel free to rebut. >> you know, just on an issue that people are going to -- anybody voting for hillary is not going to be a supporter of expanding gun rights. >> you mean voting for bernie. it's okay. you misspoke. >> the thing about the worst part of this video, there was one girl kept talking about how cars have an ulterior use. she was saying because they get you from point a to point b and she wanted to know what a gun's ulterior use. >> ulterior is not a word, first of all.
12:36 am
>> we know what a gun is for. it's right out in the hope. >> a car's ulterior use is not to get from point a to point b. that's his prime use. smart people in this video. joanne, when i watched this video, i thought to myself every guy in this video should break up with the girl instantly. am i wrong? >> yeah, i just don't know why they're together in the first place. if they differ on gun rights, they probably differ in a lot of other ways too, i would assume. >> some of them had been dating, it seemed like for a year and a half, two years, and it seems like the woman just found out the guy had a gun. >> yeah. >> communication. >> a little odd. >> you didn't like the quiet-speaking 22-year-old tom shillue? >> he did look like you. >> i didn't even notice that, yeah. >> ben, you talked about the number of women buying guns having increased dramatically over the past bunch of years. this is a widely repeated belief. there doesn't seem to be any proof to back it up. there's a lot of anecdotal
12:37 am
evidence and gun dealers have said they've seen it. but there's no -- we don't have data. >> we don't have solid data on that. but the primary reason that you can tell the difference is the number of women applying for both membership in the nra as first-time gun owners. in other words, they're saying, i just bought a gun and i'm applying for membership. that number has soared by about 75%. >> maybe it's an evil plan to take over the nra. >> good luck with that. >> by the way, in large part we don't have data like that because the nra has done a good job of protecting gun owners' privacy. >> yes. >> police body cams. tom, i watched these videos. i don't understand what the big deal is. it was obvious to me the guy in the first video was dancing. i don't know how you didn't see that. and obviously in the last one, there was a bee in the car. >> that was your first thought, a bee? >> the guy was yelling bee. he was yelling bee. >> bee, bee, bee. >> don't move. they won't sting you. >> you know what? i was told that lie, and that's
12:38 am
exactly what it is. >> chris, you thought this was a twisted way of discussing the issue of body cams, which i kind of agree with. the fact is in something like the first video where the guy was dancing, i don't think it matters where you trust cops or don't trust cops. that looked like he was being framed. >> it did. you really had no other choice than to think he was being threatened. so i don't know what point he was trying to make. >> greg, you said you understand why the police are pushing back on body cams. i've always thought people who should most want police wearing body cams are good cops. >> yeah, i agree. this wouldn't be an issue back in the suburbs. where i grew up, it would be all live feeds in dunkin' donuts. >> where did i grow up? >> mid-town high school. >> well, i didn't grow up in the high school. >> big fan, andy. >> ben, you said you never trust
12:39 am
cops. >> yeah. >> what kind of rhino nonsense is that? >> it's mostly just a very informed skepticism out of a lot of negative experiences with cops. >> personal negative experiences? >> yeah, personal negative experiences. let's just say i've shown up a lot of times to court and not had the cop show up and get off. >> you should be thanking them. >> i find it interesting that you had to show up a lot in court. >> now i've got to do some research. >> not for a while. >> andy, do you know what it's like to be a really handsome dark-haired gentleman walking through the streets of d.c. >> not easy. >> chris, you said camera evidence tends to count more than eyewitness testimony. that's because eyewitnesses are notoriously wrong, right? >> no, it's because you're looking at something. how can my eyes be lying? you're telling me something else happened. my eyes are telling me this
12:40 am
happened. what are you going to believe? you're going to believe your eyes, not their story. >> okay. the pro-kasich super pac's anti-cruz ad. this was a lie from start to finish. i do not believe that a nose that grew that long would curl around your neck. i don't think the physics work at all. ben, you said kasich cuts his own hair? >> yes, i believe so. >> i don't think we know that for sure. >> i'm just basing it on my eyes. >> you are far from alone in thinking that. you said cruz's father looks a little like geppetto. i think that's racist. >> not the first time. >> really? >> i'm pretty sure it is. >> why? where is geppetto from? >> italy. >> okay. i'm italian. so i, you know, i like my people. >> man, i can't believe i didn't get to the trump story. >> ooooh.
12:41 am
>> so bummed. >> oh, well. bye. >> thanks. time to take a break. country music stars that hate themselves when we come back.
12:42 am
12:43 am
12:44 am

country mizic. i don't dislike it. it's generally not my kind of thing. i sort of agree with chase whatever his name was that there is something to be said for -- you know, you have a single that gets a lot of radio play and you hope that drives people to buy your albums which maybe have songs that are either more complex or darker or whatever. so the only thing is these days, music is not meant to be heard in albums, or at least it's not meant to be bought in albums. especially young people don't buy albums anymore. he's got a bit of a problem there. >> christopher hahn, i don't know if you appreciate kahn. you're a liberal. most of you hate country music, right, and the people it represents. >> i don't hate it or the people it represents. >> but this has been a formula that's as old as popular music. you hook them in with a song. it's mambo italiano. they were corny, but people like corny songs. >> i'm shocked people listen to
