so let see how the live poll has been turning out throughout the hour here on "the real story." 76% of you say, nope. you don't want a third-party candidate. thank you for being part of the real store. icer harris. >> breaking news in baltimore, maryland. reaction to the acquittal of a police officer and the death of freddie gray. we're monitoring the developments in the streets of the city and we'll explain what comes next. in politics, donald trump is pulling into a virtual tie with hillary clinton in new polling. what is happening to clinton's game? once g.o.p. presidential candidate ted cruz and his team just pulled off a stunning move with delegates. i thought he suspended his campaign? and at this hour, the u.s. military helping the fight to take back the key city of fallujah from the islamic state savages, and one police officer gunned down, and a former navy seal turned state trooper wounded. our coverage in massachusetts just ahead.
12:01 pm
i'm harris faulkner in today for shepard smith. donald trump is running neck and neck with hillary clinton nationally, and it's not in just one poll. but in the average of all polls according to real clear politics. it has the likely republican and democrat nominees tied at 43%. a massive leap for donald trump who weeks ago trailed clinton by double digits. analysts are saying a part of the bump comes from r rallying around their presumptive nominee. and for her part, hillary clinton is taking fire from some fellow democrats with the party still split between her and bernie sanders. at a rally today she attacked donald trump and the g.o.p.'s economic positions. watch. >> none of this is fair to families. donald trump may not care but we do. and so do working families across our country.
12:02 pm
>> donald trump, dismissed the idea that clinton will retake the lead when her primary fight ends and says his numbers are only going to rise. >> we certainly hope. so otherwise i wouldn't be doing it. will tell you i think we're doing really well. we have had some tremendous rallies, people are in love with what we're saying, and i think we'll do very well. think we'll do even better than that. >> some perspective on this. of course national polling does not decide elections. all comes down to each state and the electoral college. we have live team coverage, dan springer is in seattle but we begin with david lee milner new york city outside trump tower. trump wrapped up a meeting. we were anticipating with a possible vice-presidential pick, senator. what's the news on that? >> reporter: indeed he did. bottom line here, we will likely not know who trump picks as a running mate until the republican convention this summer in cleveland. that said, donald trump met for about an hour and a half today
12:03 pm
with tennessee senator bob corker. the meeting taking place behind closed doors. corker is the chairman of the senate foreign relations committee and that is significant. republic republic insiders believe corker has a shot at being up for consideration as vice-president, selected by donald trump. corker in the past praised trump's foreign relations speech, and trump in turn has described corker as, quoting now, fantastic. corker is one of the wealthiest men in the u.s. senate, and like donald trump, he made much of his money in real estate and construction. corker said the meeting today, though, was focused on foreign and domestic policy, and as for all that talk and speculation about vice-president, he said it did not come up. listen. >> i have no reason to believe that i'm being considered -- >> senator, would you consider a role in future trump administration? >> i think every -- as i've said before, i am doing what i'm
12:04 pm
doing because i care deeply about policy. i want to see our country succeed. want to see us solve the big problems we have as a nation, and i think those types of questions, obviously you want to know what the circumstances were, what the relationship is. >> corker would not talk about what he described as conjecture, and, harris, many republican insiders do believe that if corker is not selected as vice-president, his name could be very high on the list for secretary of state in a future trump administration if there should be one. >> thank you for give us the details of what happened. what about outside? there were people gathered today. >> reporter: outside trump tower, there were noontime demonstrations about 20 or so veterans were here to protest donald trump. it was not a very large group but they were very vocal. specifically they say they want
12:05 pm
trump to be held accountable for money raised at a fundraiser last january that he took place the night he skipped a fox news debate. trump had said $6 million was raced. the campaign revised the fig downward to 4.35 million. published reports say it was 2.4 million. the veterans want an apology from trump and are demanding to know where the money went. listen. >> it is unaccepteddable that he made a commitment and failed to live up to it. he said he would raise $6 million for veterans, and claimed to have done so, and yet there's been no accountability for the money. he has failed to show where the money went and failed to raise as much as he claimed to have raised. >> reporter: the veterans say a trump administration would be reckless and dangerous. trump's campaign did not respond to the demonstration today. in the past, though, harris, the campaign has said that illegal immigrants in the united states
12:06 pm
are treated better than our veterans. >> thank you very much. ted cruz is still playing the delegate game nearly three weeks after he suspended his campaign. his supporters picked up all but one of washington state's 41 delegate slots over the weekem but their allegiance is based on the results in the state's primary tomorrow. donald trump is the only candidate still in the running. how does that work? team fox coverage continues in seattle. dan? >> reporter: when it comes to washington state, donald trump better have enough delegates to win the nomination, otherwise we'll see a whole lot of defectors. party activists gathered to vote won gets to attend the convention in cleveland and it was a rout. almost a shutout win for ted cruz. 40 of the 41 delegate spots up for grabs were won by cruz supporter, even trump's own state campaign director failed in his bid to become an national delegate. ted cruz dropped out of the race the day before he was scheduled to hold a campaign event in
12:07 pm
seattle. he obviously had a tremendous grassroots organization on the ground here. party leaders say the delegate dominance is not about creating chaos in cleveland but having a voice. >> i think the main reason why the cruz folks remained so organized, knowing that we have already got a presumptive nominee, is they really, really want to affect the platform. they're concerned that the platform reflect their conservative values. >> reporter: trump supporters disappointed and say they're stress that the party will come together. >> what are we expecting for the primary? >> reporter: donald trump should win big. three other republicans are on the ballot because they officially withdrew after ballots were mailed out. but this is essentially as open a primary as you can get there is no party registration in washington. anyone can vote in the primary but voters have to pledge loyalty to one of the parties to have their vote count for the party's primary.
12:08 pm
republicans allocate all 44 tellings proportionally based on the results tomorrow. the democrats will ignore the results because they picked delegate in a caucus a few months ago with bernie sanders winning big here, getting 73% of the vote. >> thank you very much. here with me now is g.o.p. strategist tony, good to see you. i want to unpack this. we'll start with senator bob corker. you saw he said he met with donald trump today and they talked mainly policy. some interesting talk, chatter, if you will, what is being called -- we know from dr. ben carson that potentially some of the names on the vp list for trump. >> he would be areassuring and rational choice for trump. thrown being foreign policy is the one area where there is significant concern, even those who support him. as hit capacity to happen the job, having never before really dealt with it. when you have the senate chairman of the foreign relations committee -- and joe biden was the senate foreign relations committee chair when barack obama tapped him.
12:09 pm
he would be a very rational choice but a wise show that trump is taking very seriously the idea that foreign policy needs to be much better developed and thought out. on economy, immigration, other issues where trump is strong he doesn't indians a vice-presidentat pick. >> they're both businessmen, very successful in that category so they do come together on points. >> reporter: a little bit of a head fake. donald trump said i want someone from inside. i don't need a businessman like myself. to there is potential this is just a legitimate policy meeting, certainly good for donald trump to get briefings from people in the know but i think cork we're be a wise person to keep on the short list. >> i like the way you put it, head fake. let's continue to kind of unpack the news that is being made today. there's a brand new web ad that donald trump has taken -- i should say supporters of donald trump have put together. take a look at it. it really sticks it to bill

12:11 pm
you get when you get the clintons. a lot of the drama, the salacious scandal, and people make the mistake to think he survived in 1998 so will survive today. there's much less tolerance even among millenals for men behaving badly against women and the more this rises, the more negative it paints a picture of the clintons in the modern environment. >> when you have a feminist movement that is part of, if you will, some of the establishment and one of the political parties, it's also less tolerated that women on women negatively would be the case. women aren't going to put up with that either. this looks bad for both hillary and bill clinton. >> you're absolutely right. looking at the exit polling from the states in the primary ex-bernie sanders in some states is beating human being income certain demographics of women, particularly women under 40. so this is going be a problem hillary carries with her into the election and it's their own doing because they picked this fight with donald trump first, suggesting what he says about

a jump in baltimore cleared a police officer in the death of freddie gray. this is the second trial in the case, and the second to end without a conviction. officer edward nero was facing charges of second degree assault, rackless endanger empty and misconduct. a judge found him not guilty. the attorney for freddie gray's relatives say the family respects today's verdict and said the judge should be commended for, quote, not bending to public opinion and analyzing this case, end quote. last april, freddie gray died from spinal injuries a week after police took him into custody. doctors say he broke his neck in the back of a police van after officers shackle head him and left him without a seat belt. protests were verve lent. prosecutors say over nero ignored police rules but not putting a seatbelt on him. near rove said it was up to the driver to make sure gray was safe in all the state's attorney charged six police officers. now, nero was the second to stand trial.

12:41 pm
outset. >> if you have confidence going forwards that this sets the tone for them just looking at thed and making the right decision. whatever those decisions turn out. >> again, have to highlight what the lawyer for the gray family said. he broke it down well and said, from a straight legal standpoint, the judge, who was apparently involved in prosecuting police misconduct cases throughout his career -- what the lawyer was saying is something we often saying which is unless you're in the courtroom and see all the evidence and hear all of thed and know the fact let's stay able from emotional reactions with the caveat it's understandable when somebody like this dies in custody. but to answer your question, i have every confidence that each case will bev evaluated on its own facts and the law as applied to the facts, and i think this particular verdict inspires that confidence. >> before we wrap, what do you say to the family of freddie gray who is watching this, about howl the law kind of plays out? >> what i would say to them is first all of our sympathies for what happened. second, what a tragic death.
12:42 pm
