griff: get out right now. it is black friday. thousands of stores opening their stores early as americans are expected to spend $20 billion this weekend. pete: yep. this is not the home shopping network. this is fox and friends weekend, and we have jeff flock joining us right now from michigan avenue chicago where people are braving the cold. jeff, good morning. >> not exactly a huge crowd out here, though, this morning on black friday. maybe if you look on the magnificent mile, it's not so magnificent at the moment. as you can see, a lot of stores open but not a lot of folks here. and it's a nice day here as well in chicago. and, in fact, one of our most faithful fox viewers tweeted me this morning, you have your heavy coat on. it's only going to be in the 50s today. what's your problem? she's right. i took my hood off. people came out anyway. some of them as early as
5:19 am
thanksgiving day and then overnight as well coming to get the bargains. and if you look at the numbers on this, 115 million people are expected to shop today, which would make this a pretty good black friday and the spending according to a survey by the retailmenot foundation -- or survey folks that said spending they thought would be up 47% this year. that's because the economy is doing so well. and 66% of those folks say they are going to be out for the sales today. only a quarter or so say they're doing it because it's a tradition. and while we're talking about a tradition here in chicago, we've got a slightly less exciting tradition perhaps for some. that's black friday protest by the black lives matter folks for the last two years, they've come out here along michigan avenue trying to draw attention to mistreatment they claim of black chicagoans by police here.
5:20 am
that's supposed to start -- well, several hours now away. it's 11:00 eastern time, 10:00 local. so we'll keep an eye on that as well, folks. back to you. pete: jeff flock live from chicago. thank you for joining us today. you know how the song the internet killed the radio? i think it did a big dent. >> i get it. i get it. it's easy to stay home. griff: sales could be up 47%. molly: and because it's a tradition. that's shocking. pete: now former presidential candidate martin o'malley has an idea how to fix the party after last year's loss. how? well, we're going to ask him. next. griff: and there's less than a dozen working days left for congress. so what are the chances of getting tax reform or anything done? we'll find out. of green mountain

molly: we are back with fox headlines and a startling news report. north korea's top nuclear target, and they are right here in the u.s. council on foreign relations say they are at the very top of the rogue regime list. the pentagon also on the report. tensions are right, right after the u.s. listed north korea as a state sponsor of terrorism. and the iranian navy planning to send a fleet of worship to the gulf of mexico as part of an effort to globalize the nation's military. back in july, a u.s. navy vessel fired warning shots at a fast-approaching iranian boat in the persian gulf. pete.

pete: while former democratic presidential candidate martin o'malley says the democratic party is regenerating itself like after a bad forest fire. telling the hill quote this is the turning point. not 2020. i'm very excited about 2018. i see this party regenerating itself. not from washington. i don't believe in permanent blue states or red states. i don't believe in flyover states. has now launched a new political organization to focus on these local elections. joining me now, former maryland governor martin o'malley. governor, thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you. happy thanksgiving. >> happy thanksgiving to you, sir, and happy black friday as well. after every -- every forest fire is started for a reason. it's either arsen, intentional, or accidental. when you look at the forest fire of the democratic party that is being generated, what's the nexus of that? is it barack obama? is it hillary clinton? what are you recovering from? >> well, we stopped acting like a party. i mean, we kidded ourselves in a believing that the only
5:26 am
offices that mattered were the president of the united states or united states senate. there were many so-called active democrats that i would speak with on the phone trying to impress upon them when i was chair of the democratic governors association that states matter. and many of these democratic contributors, donors, active people would sometimes say to me almost proudly. martin, i don't do governors. i only do president and u.s. senate. well, look, we have to field candidates for governor, good men and women up and down the ballot for state senate and state rep because the truth is we were wiped out. we lost more governors races and more state legislatures at local elections than any time in the eight-year period of the democratic party and shame of on us. we need to act like a party and realize that every state matters, and that's what i'm going to be putting my shoulder into. pete: well, in some ways, the republican party was guilty of the same sin. these blue-collar voters who had been left behind by both voters.
5:27 am
the so-called forgotten man that this president reached out to. what's your message? the democratic message? because a lot of talk about justice or resisting president trump. but what is the message to these working-class voters to say, hey, don't side with this president who says he's siding with you. instead, side with us. what's your message? >> so the message is opportunity for all. and i think it was teddy roosevelt who said that freedom in the united states of america means to be included both socially and economically in the life of our country. without that inclusion of all people, our country doesn't have much of a reason for being. pete: what does that mean, governor? opportunity for all. what does it mean? >> it means being able to send our kids to college without bankrupting our families. it means being able to be awarded for our work instead of watching our wages go down. it means a government that's actually investing in our country rather than bankrupting our country as this latest tax so-called
5:28 am
reform would do. it means all of these things that our parents and grandparents understood. give our children more opportunities than what we have had. look, this isn't rocket science, but it is the proper practice of the american capitalism, which means that the more our people earn, the more they spend, the more our economy grows, and when we make our country stronger, our country can actually give back more to our children and grandchildren. and it's a message -- yes? pete: it's good to hear democrats use the word capitalism bumble a lot of democrats, whether it's socialism or democratic socialism. you know, critiquing this president's tax reform bill saying that it's a tax break for the rich when you look at the details, the rich in many places get hit harder for anybody else. there is tax-free others. corporate tax rate should bring jobs back here, which democrats say they want to do. so is there nothing in this tax reform bill that would lead to higher wages, that would lead to giving money back to people so they can spend that money. they would release to middle class voters. would you not acknowledge at
5:29 am
least that the motives of this president and republicans are to help working-class voters as well? >> i can't speak to their motives, but i can answer your question. no. there's nothing in this tax reform that does anything for job creation. look, man. pete: doubling the standard deduction? >> yeah. that would be nice. but it's not worth bankrupting our country. look, if tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations created jobs and better wages, we would really be rolling in it now, wouldn't we? but it doesn't work like that. that's not how american capitalism. pete: we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world, governor. >> create more opportunities for your kids. yeah, we've come out of the recession thanks to president obama's leadership faster than most other countries. but we have yet to see wages go up again for most americans and a lot of people if they have less than a college degree hadn't seen any job coming back. pete: because so many of those jobs have gone overseas. i mean, we've seen it happen
5:30 am
over generations. would not reducing the corporate tax rate rather than trying to line people's pockets, you would have to acknowledge base economics and incentives would be for companies to come back here and provide those jobs here. is that not good for fly overstates as you said you don't want to describe them to have those can jobs coming back. isn't that a basic premise? >> yeah. but, look, you assume that they're paying taxes now under our tax code. that's not -- that's not true. you know, ge i think last year paid nothing. pete: because the code is so complex. you have to simplify the code as well, governor. you have to acknowledge that. >> yeah. but here's what i believe. i believe that, yes, if we had a fairer code and people actually paid their fair share, that would be -- that would be better. but what is absolutely bad for our country would be to bankrupt our country with a $1.5 trillion added to our debt that this bill doesn't even pay for. look, the real challenge is how do we get wages and pay to start going
5:31 am
up again with productivity in the united states? that's what makes capitalism actually work. when more people are included. pete: some may see it's a bit cynical now to be talking about debt and deficits after eight years of president obama. speaking of cynicism, i'll let you get your last word. are we looking at the beginnings of a 2020 presidential bid? >> look, going to be putting my shoulders in to helping people win all across the country. let me give you one, quick example. in oklahoma in the last seven special elections in oklahoma, a state donald trump won by overwhelming elections, our candidates have won five of those seven races, flipping seats in many instances people thought we had no chance of winning. but it's not just okay. it's new hampshire, it's iowa, it's south florida, it's washington state. so i'm putting my shoulder in to helping good people win back their state so we can save our country. and i'll make a decision about 2020 later. pete: after midterms is what

i've heard. governor, thank you for your time this morning. >> thank you. pete: more fox and friends on the other side. stick around. e new 2018 ford f-150. with best-in-class towing... best-in-class payload... and best-in-class torque... the f-150 lineup has the capability to get big things to big places- bigtime. so bring out your atvs, your campers, your palominos. hey. you're not always working. but your truck is. this is the new 2018 ford f-150. it doesn't just raise the bar, pal. it is the bar. was supposed to be a wake reup call for our government?sh people all across the country lost their savings, their pensions and their jobs. i'm tom steyer and it turned out that the system that had benefited people like me who are well off, was, in fact, stacked against everyone else. it's why i left my investment firm and resolved to use my savings for the public good.

but here we are nine years later and this president and the republican congress are making a bad situation even worse. they won't tell you that their so called "tax reform" plan is really for the wealthy and big corporations, while hurting the middle class. it blows up the deficit and that means fewer investments in education, health care and job creation. it's up to all of us to stand up to this president. not just for impeachable offenses, but also to demand a country where everyone has a real chance to succeed. join us. your voice matters.

georgia. isn't that great? pete: thank you for sharing your thanksgivings with us. well, the time to give thanks is apparently over. apparently over? we can always give thanks. >> be thankful he every day, pete. pete: now it's time for christmas shopping and the rush is. >> that it is that is the absolutely true. a lot of folks getting their hands on black friday steals and deals. griff: todd is in new jersey. todd, what do you have for us? what are you wearing? molly: i like it. >> you like this? molly: yeah, classy. >> i got it just for you guys. all right. let's go down to business. thank you. oh, that's beautiful. this is a serious show. i'm here with deborah. deborah, thank you so much for joining us. >> oh, my pleasure. >> what do we have here in the cart again shopping here in the cart. you have some cool stuff in here. why don't you tell us what you have. >> nothing that cool. i have some stuff with my
5:37 am
students. i'm a teacher. >> you buy stuff for your students. how awesome is that? teachers giving back. >> i've got some little games, a game for when we have family events, christmas is coming up, so why not? and i also got the fire tv stick, so i'm hearing great things about it, so i might as well get. >> all right. this is the big thing this year. we also have star wars gear. and i just want to point this out. this is not a gift, but this is definitely a cousin eddie hat from christmas vacation. put that on. >> what do you think? >> it's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year. deborah, thank you very much. we appreciate it. and speaking of gifts, i got molly, pete, and griff something earlier, and i understand that jillian's upset with me because -- that doesn't make any sense. jillian, that doesn't make sense. i got you something in the 5:00 hour, and you know that, so i don't know why you're being a scrooge. molly: oh, my goodness. >> okay. well, it's more like
5:38 am
the grinch because i'm in green today. >> the combination of you being a scrooge and me liking pugs leads to your new gift. molly: what does it say? i can't read it. >> i like that sweater. >> actually, todd, you're mistaken because did i not tell you guys earlier that he gave me my gift in the 5:00 a.m. hour? griff: the person who hasn't gotten a gift is me. >> would you like a sweater? >> adam, i have something for you. i didn't realize you were on the couch. and for those of you who didn't know, adam and i share an office at the fox news channel. and for those of you who know me, i'm loud. i talk a lot. it's tough being in a room with me at times. so for adam, headphones. >> noise-canceling headphones. >> i was just asking pete if i could move in with him. but this might --
5:39 am
>> poor todd. as todd's out in the field. todd, you're doing a great job today. thank you for the gifts. >> keep modeling. >> have a great holiday, christmas, all of that stuff, and enjoy your black friday. >> todd, thank you very much. appreciate it. >> you guys. the headlines? >> yes. please. >> get you caught up on the news of the day? let's start with this story. general michael flynn cutting ties with president trump's legal team amid robert mullers' russia investigation. so what could that mean? trump campaign manager cory lewandowski joined us last hour to weigh in. >> people who haven't followed the rules, people like paul manafort rick gates, mike flynn. if they have done something wrong, they should be held accountable. >> flynn and his son are accused of participating in a plot to kidnap a turkish opposition leader in the u.s. and deliver him to turkey in exchange for $15 million cash. the more than of an american athlete held in a chinese jail now pleading for the president to help. >> and i would be truly
5:40 am
grateful and most definitely would thank him with no problem. >> wendell brown, a former canadian football league player has been detained since september of 2016 because of a bar fight. his mother now hoping president trump can intervene. this after china released three ucla players after they were accused of shoplifting and one player's father, as you very well know has refused to thank the president. unemployed quarterback colin kaepernick making a surprise appearance at a native american unthanksgiving event. watch. >> for our justice, for our freedom, and realizing it makes us more. >> the former 49er visiting alcatraz for the annual gathering that honors native american culture. kaepernick, who started the national anthem protest last season claims nfl owners are colluding against him by not hiring him. you have to see this.
5:41 am
a chewbacca look like a winning best in year's national dog show. >> the brussels is your winner. >> it does look like chewbacca. the furry little brussels winning before besting six other group champions. the portuguese water dog finished second. they're all adorable. they all win in my book. >> i just don'tanned. it looks like my neighbor's dog. i guess someone sees something. >> well, is it your neighbor's dog? >> no. it's not my neighbor's dog. griff: i like his name griff. pete: well, if you're trying to head out right now, bring the big coat. maybe buy another big coat. it is absolutely frigid across areas here in the northeast with temperatures falling down into the 20s, the teens. this is your wind chill. 37 degrees is the feels like temperature here in new york. as you head in midwest, 22 in
5:42 am
detroit, 25 in minneapolis. so if you're one of the black friday day shoppers. this is the spot we're focusing on this morning. >> winter finally got here. >> yeah. wahoo. >> yay. griff: thanks, adam. still ahead, just a dozen days left in congress, so what are the chances of getting tax reform or anything done? byron here to react next. pete: plus, don't know what you're doing with all of your thanksgiving leftovers? i do. down the hatch. we've got recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. >> yes. yes. yes.
5:43 am
did yon the national debt?ssman get elected by talking tough will they stay true to their words? or did they promise you one thing... only to do another? right now, congress is talking about tax cuts that will add trillions to our national debt and hurt our economy. it's time to tell congress... don't borrow more money from china. and leave more debt to our kids. keep your word. tax cuts shouldn't add to the national debt.

molly: president trump renewing his vow to repeal and
5:46 am
replace. griff: tweeting obamacare premiums have gone up, up, up, just as i predicted for two years that it's a disaster. but do not worry. even though the dems want to obstruct, we will repeal and replace right after tax cuts. >> that is a long list. but only with a handily of working days left for congress, how much can they really get done? >> let's talk to byron, he's the chief political correspondent for the washington contributor and the guy that's every morning coming to fox that talks politics. and says have i got this right? what's going to happen today? tax reform. any chance we get it done, byron? >> yeah. i think there is a chance that they get it done. i mean, the bottom line to remember here is that they are desperate. having already failed to pass an obamacare bill, if they fail to pass a tax bill, i think they all think they're toast going into the 2018 election. so i'm not saying it's going to be done next week, although i think we're going to see some long nights, some promises to perhaps get it done by thursday. you know,
5:47 am
real pedal to the medal effort. might still move past christmas. might move past new year's into january, but i think the desperation factor is what makes it get done. molly: yeah, they really want this win. they need something to crow about at this point in time with repeal and replace going down in fire in there year. when we talk about what could happen with the leadership, with mcconnell, with ryan, are there consequences? and could those consequences come if we don't see something happen? it's funny to hear you talk about january. but say it doesn't get done by christmas, and we head into the new year, what then? >> well, the biggest consequences from connell and ryan if they fail to do this, becoming a minority leader of the senate and the minority leader of the house. those are i think the biggest dangers for them facing 2018. now, we will hear rumbles. remember, the house gop conference has always been a conference. remember all the problems that
5:48 am
john boehner had. there will always be some, especially if this doesn't get done saying we need to have new leadership. and the senate, you know, it's really hard to see a challenger to mitch mcconnell. he has been pretty strong, even after the failure of obamacare. so my guess is mcconnell's bigger worry is becoming minority leader. not being ousted as majority leader. >> now, byron, next week, the big four, is there a known mcconnell and ryan and, of course, their democratic counterparts pelosi and schumer getting together with the president in the white house on tuesday? but as they work these things out and try to race to the finish line before the end of the year, is it the senate that is the bigger problem and mcconnell ultimately biggest threat to his leadership? because as the tax reform bill hangs in the balance, you've got at least one senator ron johnson who says he's a "no." you've got sue collins who says repeal of the individual mandate, and then you have folks like senator corker and
5:49 am
flake who has personality differences with this president could cast ballot. what do you make of that? >> yeah. what you've just described is the senate legislative whack-a-mole game, which is because there are just 100 senators, it takes 50 to pass something. there are 52 republicans, which means if you lose more than two in the senate, then you've lost the whole game. so you could have a situation in which majority leader mcconnell and president trump are going one day. they're trying to satisfy senator murkowski's concerns. and then the next day they're trying to satisfy senator johnson's concerns. and then after that, it's senator corker's concerns. and what about senator mccain? so it's like when they fix one, another one pops up. so it could be a very, very difficult week for them. griff: thank you so much. joining us from alabama. you're in birmingham, i believe. and certainly a lot happening down there is that race for the next senator is underway
5:50 am
there. molly: yeah, and we're already looking ahead to these midterms, so we'll see what goes ahead to the new year. up next, don't know what to do with all of your thanksgiving leftovers? i've been looking forward to this. we've got recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. next.

pete: it is the morning after thanksgiving, meaning your fridge is still filled with leftovers, as is mine, so what
5:54 am
should you do with all of the turkey stuffing and cranberry? >> here is professional chef and founder of grilled cheese.com. thank you so much for being here. pete: that's awesome. >> yes. thank you, guys, so much. how is everybody doing? pete: great. molly: i've been looking forward to this all morning. >> so as everybody knows, thanksgiving is the best holiday ever. food, family, friends, and overindulgence. if you're like me, you have a lot leftover, and you can do a lot of black friday shopping. so the first thing i'm going to do since i am the grilled cheese girl, i am going to show you how to make gooey gobbler. first thing's first, we're going to get a little butter and mix in some fresh sage. and if you just want to mix that. and then we'll do two slices of gouda and then some turk. and we'll put this on the
5:55 am
bread. if you want some cranberry jam. >> my butter with a fork. >> that's the official army style neanderthal way. >> and since this is a loaded cheese, you're going to want to use a nice, thick bread that holds up to all of these beautiful, delicious things. this is golden wheat. it's thick, fluffy, it holds up beautifully. >> ta-da. >> did you like one? >> i would love one. >> also got a breakfast sandwich; right? >> i've got a breakfast sandwich because i know everyone's probably so hungry out there, and this one's super easy. if you want to hand me one of the croissants and then imagine this is toasted. and then we're going to add some of this really cool blueberry-encrusted goat cheese. and all do is put it on. >> i have that leftover every year. >> we'll do a little bit more with that. >> and then you guys put some bacon on. >> turkey and bacon but
5:56 am
definitely no turkey bacon. >> huh-uh. we're only doing the real stuff. >> it usually works. >> and then you just use the bacon for the rest of the family. pete: gorgeous. molly: well done. it's like you've done that before. >> look at that. molly: look at that. that is very impressive. pete: that is -- molly: that would be the hardest part for me. that fried egg. pete: i wouldn't thought if you through a little cranberry on the sandwich, it tastes like thanksgiving. >> uh-huh. super good. and that sage butter, that's what's up. and then this last one, this is a way to use your leftovers for a dinner sandwich. so this is the thanksgiving cuban. >> we're going to save that for the next side of the break. we're going to tell you what this is and how you can make it. more on fox and friends moments away along with this thing. we're on a mission to show drip coffee drinkers, it's time to wake up to keurig.
5:57 am
