rob: greg palcock with what we can expect. >> hi, rob, more meetings this morning on various side bar issues president trump involved with, you mentioned afghanistan, also dealing dealing with ukraid former soviet republic of georgia. already we are hearing from president trump on core points that he has been making and ruffled so many feathers yesterday and again tweeting early this morning that nato members should pay their fair share into the defense spending in each of their countries demanding that they spend 4% of their gdp on defense, most of them actually don't even come close to 2%, he also, again, tweeted this morning that germany shouldn't be paying billions to russia for a natural gas pipeline that's being built over the next several years while the u.s. is supposed to be

defending germany against russia, the trade imbalance with u.s. and europe especially germany, the biggest economy here hanging over everything, getting the attention of president trump and spurring on criticism of their spending habits. he's expected, guys, to leave here about 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon local, that's about 3 hours from now and next stop is the uk. he'll be spending time with prime minister theresa may. she has her own domestic headaches over there. she's working on the brexit, the break from the european union just as several ministers have left government upset about the plan. president trump says that he like it is plan a lot, tomorrow he'll be having tea with the queen, i'm sure he and the first lady melania will enjoy that. that'll be at windsor castle and big protest against president trump right in the center of

london but has managed to maneuver him around that. he probably won't see them at all, scotland will be playing on one of the golf courses that he owns as well as boning up for monday's big, big meeting with russian president putin. that has gotten a lot of people at nato meeting concerned too that he might be given away the store a little bit before he left on this trip. he said that could be the easiest stop of all of his various visits in the last couple of days, the concerns are that it could go easy on russia aggression in ukraine as well as talk about perhaps lifting some of the sanctions against russia and maybe going a little bit soft on the idea that russia does a lot of meddling not just in the united states but elections over here too. a lot of concerns, a lot of worries, a lot of news probably made by the president over the next couple of days. he already has made news here, back to you, guys.

rob: he certainly went tough on the russia pupline, we will see how he tones up with putin next week. appreciate it. jillian: another big story that we continue to follow, in the hot seat just hours from now the american people will finally hear disgraced fbi agent peter strzok testify before congress. rob: much anticipated. ellison barber live in washington what we can expect today, hi, ellison. >> good morning to you both of you, peter strzok expected to tell law makers that political bias and personal opinion did not impact or taint his work. he's been the fbi for over 20 years, the associated press obtained a copy of strzok's prepared remarks and according to reporting, strzok will tell lawmakers the hearing is, quote, a victory notch in putin's belt, strzok's antitrump text messages with former fbi lawyer lisa page raised concerned about political bias and impact on the clinton e-mail investigation and ongoing russia probe. democrats say this is all part of a political game aimed at

discrediting the special counsel's investigation. strzok previously sat down with lawmakers for 11 hours. democrats want republicans to release transcript of closed-door deposition. in a statement congressman argued that the american public deserves to see what republicans are doing with their tax dollars adding, quote, this investigation is a political charade, platform to elevate far-right conspiracy theories and undermine the special counsel's ongoing criminal investigation of president and campaign aides, all of this as republican lawmakers go back and forth with lisa page. page was set to appear on capitol hill yesterday, she failed to appear for the deposition despite a subpoena, congressional republicans are now threatening to start contempt proceedings friday morning unless page shows up at today's public hearing with strzok or gives a closed-door deposition. page's attorney says client has nothing to hide, that page vas

hol -- has volunteered documents. jillian: will congress follow through and hold her in contempt? texas republican john ratcliff says that's exactly what should happen. >> my stated intention is to do that, i think the red lines as we have seen with the president need to be enforced and it's the one tool that we have to compel people to appear and give, give us the truth and allow us to conduct our congressional oversight. so i'm certainly going to recommend that she be held in contempt and the matter be referred to, if she doesn't appear, i certainly hope that she does appear but if she doesn't that she be held in contempt. i think what you will hear that peter strzok will not deny saying those things, he will

what do you expect today? >> yes, well, first of all, nato is first and fore moe military alliance and it's never been stronger, these militaries get on great, what they are going to be talking going forward the position of some of the neutrals, finland and sweden and the subtest here is all about russia. nato has done a lot including deploying now new multinational battle groups in baltic republics and poland and a lot to counter increasing threats from russia. rob: you know, when you really look at this agreement, i love that we get along with 29 other countries enough that we have countries enough that we have all each other's backs but at the end of the united states, does it matter or not lithuania, they have the very small defense budgets and ask them to help them if they get -- they are getting the deal of a lifetime, right? >> well, it's a global security

problem and, you know, nato has 1 billion residents, there's no question the countries need each other, we need them and they need us and the u.s. does pay a lot but the power of this alliance is amazing and we see that in afghanistan. right now today there are 20,000 nato forces deployed in places like afghanistan, counterpiracy and missions in africa. collective defense is far stronger than anything else we could do. lieutenant -- lithuania is right next to russia. jillian: how do you see this setting that up? >> you know, it is just perfect that president trump goes to his first big form meeting with putin right after this nato summit. you know, nato's expansion and strong military alliance, this

just drives putin crazy. it's the last thing he wanted to see and puts strong? a really strong position. trump has a lot to talk about with russia, situation in syria, aggression that we see around the ball ticks and really around the world and, of course, the huge, huge russian cyber threat and meddling in western democracies, so i think coming out of a powerful nato summit with the 28 other members behind him is a perfect way to start things off with putin. rob: for someone that's colluding with russia he went after billions of dollars, pipeline with germany. democrats say he's attacking out allies by calling out germany and the fact that they only pay 1% of gdp into defense and isn't that going to make nato stronger by calling them out? >> no question nato needs to be stronger. they actually have started

spending more since they agreed to do it in 2014 but they need to continue with that. a lot of modernization that's necessary. trump makes a fair point that they need to increase that, nato agrees an committed to try to increase it, about 20 of the countries have bumped up their defense budgets a little bit, we need to see more and trump makes a fair point about the pipeline, chancellor merkel is able to handle his outspokenness so trump, most of all, wants to put the u.s. on a strong economic foundation for our security, going forward, we have a long time to deter, compete with china and russia and others and trump makes number one priority having a strong economic foundation for our military and defense strategy. that's why he's bugging nato to pay more and do more. jillian: he has a different style, time to see how everybody responds. dr. rebecca grant, thank you. >> thank you. rob: fire ripping through a grocery store overnight. blaze tearing through the roof

thank you so much for coming on this morning, we appreciate your time. this is classic reverse discrimination. >> thanks for having me. rob: you're welcome, what do you think being a student there in. >> well, saying that their goal is to limit the number of white students to 40% to have campus population, they're essentially saying the most important aspect of our campus community is whether you're white or nonwhite and that's creating division where there doesn't need to be division and there hasn't been division previously. one of the greatest thing about cal poly that's a fair merit-based admission system and that's something that we can be proud and rally around, we can all view each other that way because we are admitted in same academic standards and bring race into it and make that such an important qualification really divides us unnecessarily and it creates divisions where there weren't any before. rob: clearly now is no longer going to be a merit-based

university if they're moving towards a race-based admissions process. it can't be merit-based, it can't be both at the same time, it doesn't happen. >> yeah, it's extremely unfortunately. it's certainly not surprising that they have fallen in line with this trend on college campuses of choosing color over qualifications or accomplishments of students and that's something that the leadership on campus reform has been following a lot on dozens of college campuses and cal poly had stayed away with that and now it's extremely disappointing. rob: they gave out a quote, in 2011 the campus was 64% caucasian, applications from underrepresented minority students doubled between 2008 and 2018. progress is being made but there is still much work to do.
