montgomery, alabama you can expect that in coming days. the state senate, 25-6, it would outlaw all abortions unless the mother's life is in danger. abortions in cases of rape and incest would not be legal if this were to become law. it is the strictest bill in the country, prevents the procedure at every stage of pregnancy beginning at conception. the bill follow similar measures in mississippi and georgia. states like ohio and kentucky have similar measures, it punishes women for having an abortion and would put doctors in jail up to 99 years. debate in montgomery lasted much of the day. protesters stood outside the alabama statehouse, lawmakers spent hours debating. >> there are many families out there who do not have the means or the will or financial fortitude to ship their child

away somewhere because of the embarrassment it might bring to their family and get an abortion and bring them back into town as if nothing ever happened. >> all of us - have roe versus wade turned over. sent back to the states. >> reporter: the president of planned parenthood took to twitter, she did not mince words, this is the most extreme and dangerous policy since roe versus wade, banning abortion at any deck in pregnancy going so far as to threaten doctors with life in prison. doctors in public health leaders agree the cost will be women's lives. at this point it has to republican governor kate iv whose office also governor intends to withhold comment until she has had a chance to review the final version of the bill that passed. if it does become law, expect a lengthy court battle that could wind its way to the supreme court in washington.

tariff to protect. let's talk to a key republican senator from indiana. mike braun sits on the senate agriculture committee and that is the key point of this conversation. great to have you with us tonight. i want to read something from the wall street journal editorial board about the headline, the cost of china tariffs, tariffs are taxes that raise the price of chinese goods for us consumers and producers and also raise the price of domestic goods that compete with chinese imports because he was producers tend to raise their prices with the competition. plenty of opponents to the tariffs, you represent a lot of farmers will be impacted. what is your take? >> i have to go back many years. this hasn't been brewing just over the last year or two but over a long period of time. the chinese have behaved like anybody else in the world. donald trump is taking them on because they do things no one else does.

they subsidize industries, do force technology transfers, they steal proprietary property. tariffs are one of the mildest things, this is a long-term battle but has been brewing for a long while and thank goodness -- we have got the capability to take them on, they export four times as much to us as we do to them and i have been a believer in building my business over the years. if you want to survive in the midterm little on the long-term you have to go through some pain. i have been pleased with where we have gone. the chinese are smart. they are aiming at donald trump's strongest group that backs him philosophically, farmers. i can give you comments what i really think is wrong with the farming, it goes beyond tariffs. tariffs disappear, farmers have

tons of challenges relating to chronic over production, an industry that has become concentrated with huge corporations and the weather and other things they are challenging every day. shannon: every one of trump's increases has been met with 3 tally asian, not cooperation. the strategy does not work. china so there's a new round of tariffs on us products. where does the escalation stop. does this get us closer to a deal? >> know. currently the chinese economy is half-hour size. they are exporting four times as much to us as we are to them. all of the spinning we are relatively hurting, we are putting a lot of eggs in the chinese basket. best knows i heard a lot of companies are second thinking the idea of china as a place to

do business. if they don't get their behavior in line and not only going to be tariffs to contend with but people are not going to invest in their country until they start behaving like every other country does in the world trade arena. i get asked all the time about the tariffs, us mca which mexico and canada are two biggest trading partners, that's going to get across the finish line. agriculturally we have more probably at stake with canada and mexico. china is in this for the long game. they have the potential to be 2 or 3 times our size someday and i guarantee you they won't be listening to anyone. thank goodness donald trump has the nerve to do it. locality evolved on the prior administration, dumped him on the doorstep to deal with. shannon: it is something he

trouble, incredible trouble? >> i wouldn't hold your breath. i'm for an investigation into the origins of the investigation if that is what the white house wants. we should get the american people the fact on the table on the obstruction question and all facts on the table on the russian interference question. i think the white house is playing this in a very dumb way because what this investigation into the origins of russian interference is convened, this will stay on the front pages for the next 6 months to a year in the same way obstructing the subpoenas will stay, keep the issue on the front page for the next years. the white house thinks it is pushing back as an effective counter strategy but they are shooting themselves in the foot by continuing something that is suffocating this presidency. biden is ahead in almost every single paul. in terms of jason's point the evidence in the mueller report

will bring a controversial bill to the floor that has conservative leaders warning about what they see as a threat to religious freedom. the bill promises equality while banning discrimination. there is a growing and unique coalition against it. >> here we are today, proud to stand with members of both sides of the capital to take a moment to step toward fool equality for lgbt q americans and our country. >> call it an expansion of the civil rights act adding protections for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. >> a gay couple can be married on saturday, post their wedding photosensor them on sunday and lose their jobs or get kicked out of their apartments on monday. >> there is no federal law protecting lgbt q people. the laws change state-by-state. the equality active passed into law would change that.

has gotten really heated, passed the senate by a large margin as well and goes to governor's desk. essentially shutdown abortion in the state of alabama and they are not hiding the fact they want this to be a test case that gets to the court on roe v wade. >> you talked about how wide the margin was. producing context. the alabama state senate is 28 republicans, 8 democrats. somebody somewhere didn't vote or wasn't there. it was passed on party lines. the other thing is two things, one being that the content of this bill is well outside the mainstream with no exceptions for rape and incest and banning abortion at any stage of

gestation is outside the bounds. this is not the only state that is doing this kind of thing. it is the most extreme of the 99 year sentence, ohio doing similar things and georgia. this is a great example, i say this as a former state senator, of how a national issue is being taken on in a state by state approach which is happening. >> that is what we have seen. a number of states of gone the other direction, relaxed the regulation. restrictions on abortion, we are seeing some on the right and some of the left on that. >> that is what is supposed to happen. that's why roe v wade is an abomination. it is not itself constitutional. for the people of alabama to be told by federal legislators shut up, we don't care what you think and we don't care who is in your

legislature, they said no. the people of alabama have spoken and the beauty of this. i'm thrilled this happen but for many reasons because as an american this needs to go to the supreme court and people of america need to argue is this a human life? if it turns out this is a human life can we all agree that it is wrong to take that life. the abortion activists said we don't want to have the conversation, shut up. alabama has forced us to have this conversation like many men are forcing women to have abortions because it is legal and women don't want to make a choice. let's not get ourselves this is empowering women. shannon: this is super divisive and controversial. i want to get both of you to weigh in on this equality act. interesting peace. one a radical feminist and the
