three counts of murder. he did not enter a plea and so far the former police officer's attorney has not indicated whether he will post a bond. a public memorial was called yesterday for george floyd, thousands attended including celebrities and high-ranking politicians, former vice president joe biden met with the floyd family and here is george floyd's brother. >> this is bigger than george right now. we are going to stop everybody from being afraid of the police. we have good police but we have bad police. you can sort them out so we have to figure it out right now. >> minneapolis the councilmembers now say they have a vetoproof majority and are moving forward with abolishing the minneapolis police department but there are a lot of questions about whether it will happen or what it will look like. even the city's mayor says he will not support it in the mayor announced a new coalition to

donald trump was insistent when he came out and said we have police that have 150,000 interactions with the community every day. the majority of these men and women who signed up for the dangerous job, do it with integrity and honor and we have to support them and make sure they are safe. at the same time how can we improve? he asked pointed questions, he was involved in the detail of policing and what he could do as president to make their jobs easier in the community to have more trust in what they are trying to achieve as law enforcement. jillian: the idea being thrown around, having him sit there, what ideas were thrown around for possible reform? what have people been saying? what was discussed in that meeting? >> as we discussed certain things i don't want to get ahead of the administration and what they will propose but i will tell you we talked a lot about

data and making sure we had a full picture of what was going on around the nation so that we could steer the ship in the right direction, understood what we are dealing with and at the same time we want to understand after dialogue and collaboration how we can cure any perception that there is not equal justice for all. we want to make sure that is true. we need that for a free and civilized society. i know donald trump is committed to that. he moved forward with the first step act, provided economic opportunity in so many areas but i will go back to what he started with. we cannot have so-called leaders coming out and saying they want to defund the police. that is shortsighted and irresponsible. with no uncertain terms he said i stand by the police and we need them for stability and

security and all of law in this country. todd: you have a number of leaders, cities that have officials supporting the idea of defunding the police. a lot of yellow on that matter. number of states and cities. this is the city council president of the city of minneapolis. listen. >> reporter: what if in the middle of the night my home is broken into? who do i call? >> for those of us for whom the system is working i think we need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harm. todd: what do you make that comment, that people like that managed to get into power in major american cities? >> it is scary that people like that have a vote in major american cities. i was a former federal

prosecutor, judge for over a decade. i'm attorney general of the state of florida and the wife of a law enforcement officer. victims of crime need law enforcement that are willing to step in in the middle of the night, willing to protect people from carjackings and robberies and it is not just about the middle of the night. it is about defective, engaged, proactive policing, return of children to their parents. as a mother i am terrified they are in office. it leads to discovery of who is murdering people. the university of florida have a series of killings and you know who discovered it? local police when they were investigating a burglary. proactive, responsible policing with integrity is necessary for a nation under rule of law. donald trump was clear about that. at the same time he's having detailed discussions how we can

is something so solomon this country to do this? so many ways you could do something like fighting and injustice? >> there is that i'm never going to condemn a peaceful protest even if i disagree with it so i will say when you start to fight in that regard you are taking your eye off the enemy and that is what is starting to happen in the country. them national football league hopefully if we don't see this that will be a good thing but if we do start to see this political divide again it will really take our eyes off the issues and we are not going to be able to address the fact that we have a high percentage of black men not graduating from high school and family units in the black community at the root and core of a lot of our issues, there are things we can do as a nation together united, we continue to fight over who is kneeling or standing for the flag we take our eye off of the true enemy. jillian: thank you for joining us.

todd: the man accused of helping burn down the minneapolis -- minneapolis police precinct making his court appearance, brandon wolf of st. paul admitted to being in the building the night of the fire and through a wooden barrel into the flames. police caught him wearing stolen police gear including body armor, a baton and a knife, the security guard is the first person to be charged in connection with that. jillian: jussie smollett citing the george floyd protest while fighting a lawsuit for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself, using the defense while asking for documents related to former superintendent eddie johnson saying, quote, as we see millions across the country rise up to protest and expose police misconduct the city by the refusal to produce the affected documents is choosing to actively resist a citizen's lawful effort to reveal dishonesty. jussie smollett maintains his innocence.

need 400 more police they didn't go that direction, they only hired 14 more and if you don't do the right things you will get the wrong results in that has been happening in minneapolis lately. >> let's look at the new police restrictions as of now, that includes net restraints and chokehold sideband. officers must report and intervene in instances of unauthorized force, the chief must approve crowd control weapons and body camera reviews for discriminatory acts and must cooperate in civil rights probes. do you have an issue with any of that? >> i don't but minneapolis has a reputation of being too aggressive. i talked to a number of police around the state. taking a deeper look at what they have been doing and why is something that should happen but as we move forward, one of the issues is there is a bad apple

and occasionally you have one. they are often not removed from the police force. it should go before a judge. there is a number of things they could and should do but this protest when it began, it turned violent because police were held back and didn't do anything, the violence started on a wednesday and did significant damage thursday and friday and in that regard, significant numbers until saturday. we have over 1000 businesses that have been damaged, have $1 billion worth and if they don't have the police what are you going to have. as a result of that, one business with 50 employees that will not remain in minneapolis, they will go somewhere else. >> i expect to see so much of that was why would any business want to see the doesn't have police. i was talking to a friend of my last week lives in brooklyn, came into want to find a guy trying to get into a bedroom window in a pretty nice area of brooklyn but had the bars up. what do you say to that girl and

all the people that will have that problem in minnesota and minneapolis? >> exactly. one of the main reasons police get called out his domestic abuse. think about the situation, no police officer there, that's not going to work. and the end if you're going to stop lawlessness you have to be stronger than them. there has to be a for stronger than them. the police as a whole are very good and very important, probably one% or 2% that aren't doing the job they need to do. you cannot have no police and expect people to feel safe. >> to suggest having no police and not have suggestions on the plan is where people are having a hard time. we appreciate it.

weeks ago is somehow controversial over at chick-fil-a. >> right now, guys, any pro-police symbol or comment is considered controversial on social media which is why a photo of a chick-fil-a employee wearing a back the blue t-shirt sparked outrage on social media. apparently this image isn't what it appears. the photo, first of all, was taken in 2015 and the shirt was created to support a local football team not the police. chick-fil-a released a statement saying the photo is currently being taken out of context so we apologize for any confusion this has caused. some folks are wondering even if the picture was supporting police, why would a company have it apologize for that this commenter says pretty shocking that a company would need to distance itself from supporting police in an age of mass rioting. veronica chiming in saying there is nothing wrong with back the blue. don't paint all law enforcement as bad. some pretty polarizing reaction on that front, guys.
