11:02 pm
differently and assuming actually it's by then will be worse. >> i don't know how bad it is going to be. it will have to be worse because he's not dealing with anything he said would go away. it's going to be worse. i speak with docs three times a week sometimeso four times a wk an hour and 15 minutes. they predict among them that there will be 200,000 dead by the time we get to election day. they predict this will just get worse and worse. >> laura: translation: biden says trump bad on covid, virus bad, so trump plus virus isn worse.e. >> if i'm fortunate enough to be like the president, we will have to take significant action to do a number of things. one, you need more testing. you need to be able to test and trace. you need to be in a position where you are able to assist everyone to wear a mask and everyone socially distance. that business do not open if
11:03 pm
they cannot do that. we need to keep people on their feet. we need to make sure health insurance as we have health insurance as well as making sure no one has to pay for contracting covid and/or being treated for covid. >> laura: well, how many of you think that is realistic? no one ever has to pay for anything! is he even aware that we've done more testing than any nation on t earth? as of today, we've done 48.6 million covid tests in the united states. there is no indication at all that biden could do anymore any faster, at least we haven't seen any evidence of that. so that isll all bunk. so what is left? rolling shutdowns or a complete national shutdown until the virus magically disappears. and we opened up too soon. we didn't have the virus totally under control. you just have to shut down for now.w. i think that god is our only way out.
11:04 pm
>> if you leapfrog over different phases, you increase the risk that you will have the kind of resurgence is that we are seeing. >> how much worse does it have to get in los angeles before you feel compelled to issue another stay at home order? >> sure, well, i think we are on the brink of that. >> laura: i said this last week. i fully expect by october, all blue states in the united states will either be shut down or on the way to shutdown. and of course, we have tried shutting down all across america, and the virus is obviously still there. meanwhile, we lost millions and millions of jobs. now, didn't take the heavy-handed approach and basically through the worst of it. let's go on to tracing and tracking. this means among other things
quote
11:05 pm
that the government forces you to download an app on your phone that keeps you monitored if you test positive. now, hundreds of thousands of paid trackers -- it's like a new tsa for the virus to roam around the country to keep us safe. you know, to that i say, whyune doesn't new york and california show us how great they are tracing and tracking them? what is stopping them from showing everyone how well it works? and finally i'm on the mask question, biden sounds like he would issue some sort of i guess federal rule mandating masks for the foreseeable future forever for all we know. maybe everywhere except when you are in your own home with your family. that is hard to see any of that is constitutional. as we told you last week, the science on cloth masks is very murky. that is putting it charitably. y but nevertheless president trump is embracing them, and they may make some people feel better and more patriotic so that is fine. but let's get real here. if there were a magic democratic solution to the virus, governor gavin newsom and california gretchen whitmer and michigan would have been bragging about it by now. and andrew cuomo nursing home wouldn't be killing fields.
11:06 pm
rather than acknowledging that there are real trade-offs in fighting the virus, the left is living in la la land. because they act like shutting down and doing it again and again and again has zero consequence. throwing people under the unemployment rules however we know has major consequences. many of the small businesses are barely holding on as it is. and now they are having the rug pulled out from underneath them again. pain comes in many forms, we all know that but instead of recognizing it, this is a tragedy caused by training and one neither republicans or democrats could easily solve my democrats and their media playing election year politics and i guess it's to be expected, but wouldn't it be nice every now and then if good news or even good trends were embraced by both parties? look at this graph. death and hospitalizations look
11:07 pm
like they have peaked in arizona, going down, the let's hope they keep doing that. that is according to the arizona republic. and e.r. visits with suspected covid cases have begin to drop. ventilator uses have also decreased. the death toll in texas peaked at 174 last week and has been trickling down since then. we will look for the same trend in florida later this week. but the reason we can't have a serious grown-up conversation about this is because every time someme county and some state has an uptick in some infection, the press screams "it's all trump's cault. you see, we opened up too fast!" i'm here to tell you it is childish and stupid. same with promising lockdowns won't cost our country dearly or pretending we can keep borrowing and printing money to cover all nonessential salaries until the pandemic is gone. that is called mailbox money. try hiring someone in a restaurant today.
11:08 pm
we need to carefully examine trade-off of every move we make in response to this virus. think about it. doctors focus primarily on one thing: the medical side. that is what they are trained to do. but it is the president's job to focus on the whole country. our elderly are now suffering alone. our children are suffering by staying at home. parents are worried about how they can possibly manage it all. and employers are beginning to do the math, and the numbers are ugly. and of course, americans mostly the elderly are compromised, are still tragically succumbing to the virus. but here, as we have shown you, that deaths have been steadily declining since their peak in march. trump's approach been wise. he couldn't lose the entire u.s.
11:09 pm
economy by mandating a lockdown of 330 million americans. that would have been ridiculous, abusive. plus, as we saw in may, the democrats were fine with protesters who gathered by the thousands, some of them, by the way smashing up the place in portland, oregon. those are still being excused by the left, and we are being criticized as i mentioned "hannity" for covering them. >> they are real problems in portland, but it is made up on fox news like it is this raging fire out of control. and that is a gross exaggeration. i it just is a gross exaggeration. >> laura: so the democrats are offering free lockdowns and in the exemption from the lockdowns to anyone who agrees with them, their agenda. now, you can see where a that offer kind of would have been appealing to a folks who realize lockdowns actually carry it in enormous cost that can be made up with new welfare programs. i'm talking human costs, more
11:10 pm
lives, other illnesses, not attended to. in reality, we need a serious and we need a balanced approach to lower the harm caused by the virus while doing the best we can to protect the economy, our families, our kids, and our small businesses. so governors in places like texas and florida tried this more nuanced approach, and it will not be perfect, nothing is. but they have been more successful than their counterparts in new york, california, by a long shot. but it is hard to defend and explain they want sometimes, isn't it?, much easier to scream "we need a national plan!" so the voters are turning against the g.o.p. because the white house has been telling them three things they don't want to hear. number one, over time, you can only become prosperous by working for it, not by borrowing money or printing it. number two, you can't cure a virus by shutting down your economy and hiding from it.
11:11 pm
and number three, no matter how much sympathy you have for young people, it is a mistake to encourage riots and looting and the destruction of property. now, these are things a lot of voters may notth want to hear n. and repeating them may hurt the g.o.p. in the short run. but they are all true. and they will be true no matter what the swing voters may want to. and that is "the angle." here now victor davis hanson who is the institution senior fellow mike huckabee former arkansas governor and fox news contributor. all right, let's start with you. given biden's five decades in washington, hasn't he already proven himself incapable of solving these complex problems? >> laura, he's been there for 50 years. he really has nothing to show for it other than an extraordinary capacity for plagiarism. i think what is most troubling though about biden is he joins in this idea, let's just give
11:12 pm
people free stuff, you know, let the government be like santa claus. the problem is, kids grow up in the find out santa claus as their parents. then they become their parents. and they have to pay for all this stuff. a lot of these kids who want free college, free food, free jobs, free everything, one day will end up running the country and find out now they have to pay for the stuff that they got for free when they were in their 20s. it just doesn't work. we need to have that serious message out there because most people deep down no what the democrats are offering is just absoluteau balloon juice. >> laura: victor, when i went to a friend of mine's restaurant to pick up some food the other night, there were big signs that said they needed busboys. can you still don't ask still say busboy, is that allowed? $17 an hour and they can't find anyone, can't find it, can't
11:13 pm
find anyone to do the jobs because the mailbox money keeps coming in week after week. but that money is running out, i guess, next week. so now the republicans feel like they have to go and deal with pelosi and company.un >> we are in a record year already, laura. we are going to borrow at $4 trillion. they want to borrow more. we are getting close to $30 trillion national debt. to get out of that fix, we either have to near zero or zero interest rates for the rest of our lives, or we will have to inflate the currency. that is what happens historically when you get yourself in that fixed. the problem with joe biden and all this discussion not scientifically based, we have one or two criteria about the severity of the virus. how are we doing as far as far as totality's population? we are doing better than every
11:14 pm
major european country except germany. how many people are dying and i hate to say that is how many people are dying from the virus and the total death impact compared to the year last year before the virus? we are at a level now wearing no more people are dying in the united states this week, last week than they did last year despite the virus. when you look at new york, eight times the death rate of california? it's not a political question, but when people say cuomo and dr. fauci is doing a good job, g it is sad. the death rate is 1600 per million people. that is eight times here in california. so what i'm getting at, and all of these discussions of the virus in the economy, no one is looking at data and science. when you open up the schools, you are having children rarely if ever get it any serious fashion. they don't seem to spread it. we know how to protect teachers that are vulnerable.t and we can't have an economy where people that are living on investments on pensions, on state income, then are predicated on people who are self-employed going out there and earning capital and creating wealth for the economy. whatever you feelon about the
11:15 pm
politics, it is not very equitable to say i'm going to stay inside because i have a check coming. but that guy is going to go out and earn and pay taxes because he doesn't. >> laura: let's get the governor. >> it is still great. >> laura: governor, it is a pitbull that the republicans findt' themselves in because people will take the check. if it is $600 a week and maybe get a virus working in a restaurant, grocery store, they will take the $600. eight times out of ten. and so that can't continue, but you can allow a collapse either. but you see where this is all going to go again. >> well, it is one thing to help people out when they were jobs have been shut down the government and there is no jobs. it is a whole different thing when jobs are available and people don't want to take them. when we did welfare reform in the mid-'90s and whenob i was governor then and a lot of
11:16 pm
governors looked at this issue and said the one thing we havere to do is to say that you have to either be training for a job were going to work at a job where you don't get the welfare money. you know something? it was amazing how many people suddenly decided, well, i will t go to work because if the gig is up, the gig is up here that is exactly what happened. we move people not just off of welfare, that can be cool and easy to flip a switch but the ec question is moving them into jobs which we did and we did it because we said, we willll not give you money for not doing something. it just can't work like that. >> laura: gentleman, great to see you both tonight. thank you so much. my next guest receiving an alarming report of doctors targeted by their state medical licensing board for actually saving their patients lives. it sounds crazy? it is happening. dr. harvey risch, the epidemiologist professor at yala public school of health and one of the most renowned mines on
11:17 pm
, epidemiology. dr. risch, what treatment is being targeted and how pervasive is this? >> good evening, laura. this is, of course, hydroxychloroquine, the that nobody should ever say according to half of the population. it is a political drug now, not a medical drug. and that has caused the complete population ignorance. and i think we are basically fighting a propaganda war against the medical facts. that is not just population people but doctors as well. there are many doctors that have gotten hostile remarks about saying that all the evidence is bad for it but in fact that is not true at all. and it is easy to show all the evidence is actually good fort t when it is used in outpatient use. nevertheless the only people that see that are a whole pile of doctors who actually are on the front lines treating those
11:18 pm
patients across the country. and they are the ones at risk of being forced not to do it. >> laura: doctor, how important would it be for now or significant if the administration basically through the fda rescinded that warning about hydroxychloroquine completely debunked and made a mistake about the warning and get out of the way of the relationship between the doctor and the patient for off label use of a medicine that's been around 65 years? shouldn't stephen hahn and the fda come out and say, look, we will not micromanage your decision and let this go? >> yes, it would be game changing. in fact, all of the discussions you had earlier how to manage going forward through september, october and into next year will change if theret is prevention and treatment that works and is available and safe. that is, in fact, the case. the fact is nobody wants to hear it and nobody lets it out except for you. you are the only one actually in any way the mainstream media
11:19 pm
that is allowing anybody to speak about the evidence for these drugs. >> laura: now, i've got to say, doctor, i knew politics was corrupt covering it for decades and i knew the law has a lot of corruption because i was a lawyer for a long time. but i didn't know you can have so much corruption in the medical field when it comes to bureaucrats. and i know there is a lot of good people in government. i'm not saying that. but justt making people better. it is stunning to me. last word. >> i think there have been a lot, and we hardly know the extent of it, both from the drug companies, from political contrivances, and so on. it is very difficult and thely circumstances are difficult. >> laura: dr. risch, do you
11:20 pm
think thousands of lives could be saved going forward if they release the hydroxychloroquine stockpile in a prophylactic like india has done and other countries have done on the front line if they wanted? >> i think 75,000 to 100,000 lives will be saved if that happens. >> laura: we will keep talkingtr about it. thank you for speaking out. some of your colleagueso at the universities, harvard, your rival over there might disagree, but we will keep talking about it. thank you so much, appreciate it.. have you heard of this anti-trump group named the lincoln project?
