this has been nothing but trump bashing and that makes sense. you are the outside party so you are going to portray him as awful. but they replaced awful with evil. and voters who are unsure about joe or voted for obama and then voted for trump. if you are voted for trump you are racist and sexist and evil. this puts targets on voters backs. that worries me. i used to teach politics. both groups say each one is wrong. but the democrats game plan lifted from the feverish hate on twitter and antifa and they are demonizing in exchange for power. i worry about the consequences

fantastic at doing monologues and you read into a prompter. during the pandemic you don't have audience feedback. that's hard and sad. but i think it will be okay. i think it's hard to screw up a prepared speech reading off the teleprompter. when you see biden and harris into interviews like this weekend on abc news, that's where you will see more room for error. at the end of tonight, the goal for the democrats has to be to look a little bit more like clinton and gore than dole and kemp. i am not sure what the consensus will be there. >> i miss basking in the applause of live audiences. that barack obama was supposed to the last speaker but he wanted to be seen as the attack dog and she could rise above. was she overshadowed or did he have her own moment? >> i think he didn't want to be an attack dog. yes, it was a hand off to kamala harris. a man who had been president saying this woman is well prepared to be vice-president. but the bigger point, i think, is obama overshadowed. i don't think there is any question. he is a former president. he is much better known and in my opinion a much better speaker. i didn't think there was a contest there. it was an act of grace on his part to say she should be begin the primary spot on her night when she makes history. a black woman nominated to be vice-president of the united states.

just a quick note on obama's speech. it's interesting to me. i think it was chris wallace, it was not hope and change. it was a different tone. i felt like he was speaking to people who were disillusioned and became cynical about american politics. problems don't get solved. in terms of civil rights, he said people who were beaten and getting hanged didn't give up hope in those days, but kept their faith in the american principles of equal rights and justice. he said john lewis told him on the day barack obama was born, john was ushered into jail in the south. things change quickly. you have to get out there and organize and vote. in that sense i found it inspiring. >> greg, it wasn't so much hope and change as you better vote or

we are all screwed. >> it went exactly as i predicted. nothing that obama said was fact based. it was all feelings based. he is unfit. he is mean and bad. these are opinions. they are not tied to any data. there is no bottom line that the voter can grab on to. they want to hear about jobs. they want to hear about the economy and specifics. this is just more of that stuff you already heard on cnn and msnbc, which is trump is a big meanie. he is going to be even meaner. what kamala harris said about trump is he caused a loss of certainty. how can you lose something you never had before? i think kamala harris forgets the weekly beheadings that occurred when obama was president. you want to talk about anxiety

and uncertainty. we were doing "the five" and everybody here was marose and uncertain about the next terrorists attack. there was no counter offensive. the democrats offered no response. that created a level of uncertainty we had not had since 9-11. now we are seeing the same thing with the interior terrorism, the stuff in the united states. the violence on the streets. the murders. there is no counter offensive from the democrats running the city. that's creating uncertainty and anxiety in the american population. those are the people that will vote. the democrats are letting them down. they are not even touching this idea because they know they are responsible. >> interesting that you bring up the point about the cynicism and barack obama, martha, saying we have to get out there and have

hope. yet there was one line in kamala harris's speech that stuck out to me. talking about what they will accomplish, she said we may fall short? i thought what? she said we will be honest with you. we may not get there. i didn't think that was rousing. >> yes, it's a great point, dana. you think about the two times in recent history that an incumbent has lost his job. you have bill clinton who presented this vision of the man from hope. this young, inspiring, uplifting. whatever you think about bill clinton, that's what got him to that moment. then you go back to ronald reagan. it's an uphill battle to beat an incumbent. very hard to do in a difficult economic time. reagan had morning in america. where is the morning in america?

democratic party must be horrific. he knows joe has no base. he didn't want joe to run in 2016 and didn't want joe to run this year. he knows covid is on the down trend. football is around the corner and schools are opening. the writing is on the wall. to say that donald trump is a threat to democracy, all democrats believe in they don't win it's a threat to democracy. i think the threat to democracy is buying foreign intelligence to wiretap the opposing campaign. what do i know? it looked like obama was disdainful of the current president. he left his legacy in tatters. the obama mandate is gone. the iran deal is out of there. the only thing left is a cloud of scandal. president obama knows if biden doesn't win, bill barr stay there is and durham continues to investigate obama gate.

to undermine the post office. he said he doesn't have faith if in the structure because people want to engage in fraud. tongue in cheek she said she won by 2 million votes and still lost the election. she is not saying anything illegal happened, but suggesting don't close your eyes in a poker game with donald trump. all that matters for him is winning. it's not about decency or standing up for american democracy. it's about winning. >> unlike the democratic party about compassion as cities explode. martha, it seems like the democrats want to be the party of women. even though they partied with

unrest. they threw rocks and battles and hammers at authorities. greg, everyone is moved by the story of gabby who spoke about her son being shot at a birth party by a stray bullet. given the what is going on around the nation and an 80% increase in gun sales because people are concerned, is this moment -- are they needing the moment? >> no, i said this yesterday. rather than have the courage to condemn the very specific crimes of violence that are terrorizing rise now the citizens in our cities, they instead created a broad target out of generic gun violence. they used tragedy as a shield. when you do that, you are saying
