to lay out the groundwork now for a far more sophisticated campaign in 2024. if you want to lead the republican party you need to answer tough questions. first, i can complain about it, even in some republican states, ballot harvesting is legal in certain circumstances. it's legal in dozens of states. ballot harvesting is when a third party can collect and bring in ballots for a voter. why aren't the republicans better at it? what are the most successful groups doing it now. what are republicans doing to emulate the successful methods? second, as much as we all wish voting was limited to one day, early voting is probably here to stay. what leadership proposing that their state officials do to get
7:03 pm
better at this. the democrats know how to game the system. until republicans can change election laws, they need to beat the democrats at their own game. otherwise, how are they going to avoid scenes like this. >> clark county there were 22,000 votes there. >> 85,000 votes in the governor's race. >> pima county, we got another batch of 24,000 votes. >> there was a dump of 3379 votes. >> laura: except in states like florida, south dakota, democrats have the early voting field to themselves. third, going forward, because of the early voting and mail-in ballots, we have to assume that in many case, it will take at least two weeks to count the votes. in states like illinois, ballots have two weeks to a arrive as long as they are postmarked by election day.
7:04 pm
it's ridiculous. in washington state, by the way, it's three weeks. what is being done to ensure that gop interest during this process are being protected during these long and extended vote periods? shouldn't they be doing more? why isn't there a gop website that allows us to track in realtime how many votes are left. who's doing the counts? for the past six days, republican friends, they keep texting me saying, laura what is happening? are we going to win in arizona? it's a feeling of total helplessness because they are left in the dark. this year, republicans lost senate races in arizona, california, hawaii, nevada, oregon and washington state out west. we lost senate races in connecticut, maryland, new hampshire, pennsylvania, new york and vermont. we won every other senate race with lone exception of georgia, which is a runoff and illinois because of chicago and colorado, denver gone left.
7:05 pm
republicans are doing really well in middle america. what is the specific plan to do better along the two coasts? you got 12 senate seats in new england. this year the gop continues to prove we have lot of support in the latino community. that block still support democrats by a margin 2-1. sixth, if the problem is that the nominated candidates who donors wanted, weren't nominated and others were weak, why did adam waxhaw lose in nevada. where is she struggling in alaska. you know that democrats want to do that. next t what benefits did the gop

get from mitch mcconnell's decision to let the biden administration to have an infrastructure bill. bill cassidy claimed to me that bill will give the republicans more leverage to stop the climate change bill. well, the opposite happened. it gave the democrats a political victory to run on this season. what the heck did we get out of it? senate majority leader senate mitchmcconnell, he said almost nothing during the campaign when he criticized republican nominees. what are the advantages of having a senate leader who doesn't speak much, especially when gop voters are restless and angry. i don't know, the quiet approach. looking at these results, most of observers will likely conclude that pelosi, even though she will narrowly lose
7:07 pm
her majority, and schumer who will hang on barely, they are better at politics. sadly than mccarthy and mcconnell. why are those observers wrong? again, we need a real conversation here. there's no shying away from it. somehow, despite democrats leaving us with 8% inflation, spike in crime, and an open border, millions of voters in battleground states didn't blame them for it. what three things do republicans stand for right now that the leadership can articulate with clarity, specificity and conviction? is it opening up immediate drilling and fracking to bring down energy cost. is it middle class tax cuts? we have lot of questions. whoever wants to lead the gop should be giving us answers. let's not forget, we've had successes in the history book,
7:08 pm
2022 will probably be remembered as the year roe v. wade was overturned. as the near nancy pelosi lost the house. it maybe remembered as the year the democrats lost florida for good. the year that republicans started showing new life in new york, huge victory there. those are great accomplishments. as we've been telling you, it's not enough to keep winning the same states over and over again. we need leaders who want to do better and who can help us grow this movement. we'll look for them until we find them. the conversation starts here tonight. that's the angle. joining me is kellyanne conway. this is kind of a tale of two elections made clear tonight. fox called arizona for katie hobbs who refuse to debate in that race for governor.
7:09 pm
yet, the gop is flipping seats. i got back from california, flipping seats there. what's your read right now tonight? >> few things, lot has been said in the last week. one thing that hasn't been said is something we know about voters. which is when there is chaos and crises in the grocery basket at the gas pump, in ukraine at the southern border in our communities because of rise in crime, people have two choices. they can throw them all out or start over or they say there's so much crises and incertainty, i can't invite it more in our lives. we did a project with biden disengagers. those are people who should be for him. they are swing voters. the independent ended up breaking for democrats. the trend of going for the party out of power by double digits. the biden engagers they were

convinced democrats didn't have what it took. in the house, kevin mccarthy did the commitment to america. >> laura: i jumped there. i found it very general. i found it was like a lot of headlines. there was no meat on those bones. >> it's 500 words front and back. it gave people something other than you just not against the democrats. >> laura: really? >> sorry, we're going to get the house and we flipped seats in new jersey, oregon, new york. >> the house didn't do enough. they are going to get the majority. this is something where they gained seats in 2020. you don't see the kind of war with the republican voter in the house that you see in the senate. senate leadership clearly just disdained republican voters. they are blaming them for their
7:11 pm
failures to secure some of these victories. they offered nothing as you pointed out over the last two years. no resistance to the biden agenda, no vision. unlike kevin kevin mccarthy. mitch mcconnell said you didn't need to have a plan. it was sufficient that joe biden was bad. this is a man who went to war against the tea party. many of the problems we're dealing are his war against the voter for republican party to thrive, it needs to be unified. you need to have the establishment and the voters. they should be providing candidates who vote people like. they should be trying to instead of sabotage, mitch mcconnell sabotaged blake masters who came close to winning. he gave no money. >> laura: he was supporting chuck morris in new hampshire before bolduc. it was tough.
7:12 pm
mccarthy tried to put a blueprint out there. they were almost -- they weren't in sync. the voters were jump in here, i thought they were not getting a message from the republican party. that was unified. the democrats were pretty unified. >> polling shows the number one issue for most voters of the the economy. voters trust republicans by double digits on the economy. republican politicians failed to closest the deal with them. that's a real problem. in terms of mitch mcconnell you can bring a message to the table or you can bring brilliant background policy, procedures. which is what mitch mcconnell has been celebrated for. this is massive failure. he's been in leadership for 20 years. he's been the leader for 16, 17
7:13 pm
years. at some point, what does somebody around here have to do to get fired? >> laura: we talked about accountability a lot in the republican party. we got to have metrics. he did great job keeping merrick garland off that supreme court. i will be grateful for mitch mcconnell. >> chuck schumer has that same record. they get more than just judges with chuck schumer. they get a whole agenda. they get victory. >> laura: he goes on tv and he'll argue the point. speaking of kelley anne. senator schumer had so called advice for gop leadership. >> the answer is for the republican leadership, those non-maga ones to break with the maga party and work with you. america will breathe sigh of
7:14 pm
relief. they liked it this summer. we need to do more. i'm willing to reach out. >> we've been asking for his advice. one poisonous word that i thought donald trump done with the republican party is electability. it is a fiction. voters don't ask who can win. voters ask who they can lead. mitch mcconnell said in august, i have great confidence in oz. he was endorsed by trump in april. come november, we supposed to go back a year and say, oh my god, he shouldn't have been the candidate. once the voters speak, you have to do all you can to support them financially, message wise tactics. i can feel -- i'm a
7:15 pm
self-respecting republican and conservative. we didn't go lie and scare the voters. they didn't talk about inflation and crime. they have no good message. they on a sugar high, the political one night stand with obama and hillary and saying what. >> laura: they fight to the finish. >> we got a lot of first-time candidates. >> laura: tiffany smiley did a great job. >> there's this notion candidate quality. >> i do there's an issue with leadership quality. limn quality seems to be where the republican party is failing. mitch mcconnell who says 7% of american support him, he's routinely the least popular national politician. he picks weird sides to things.
7:16 pm
one things he got involved in was helping liz cheney this year after she went to war against the republican party. he doesn't seem to -- >> laura: he definitely agrees s with liz cheney more than america first populism. >> liz cheney had a good year with her meddling in elections. this is at odds with the republican party. >> laura: do you agree with mitch mcconnell agrees more with liz cheney on foreign policy trade and immigration? >> i would just slightly correct that because the january 6th committee they were forced resign or lost. it's in large part because people got tired of that. here's something i want to say. anybody asking joe biden step aside? they love tell us who our

nominee should be? you can't have the socialist womb, you can't have the american samone. they like to meddle in our elections by telling us ahead of time who our nominee should be. >> laura: they love mitt romney and john mccain. new york was the bright spot for the republican party. that was because we had lee zeldin who went to new york in the last weeks of the campaign. right into the belly of the beast. i was like that is the kind of republican we need to go right in there and say, this is what i stand for. >> he did it after those voters moved to florida contributing to ron desantis's huge night.
7:18 pm
>> laura: they want him to be rnc chief. >> there has to be a future for people like lee zeldin. he gets the message and the mechanics. >> i think the 168 is in charge of electing him >> laura: none of that matter if we don't get the results we want. >> lee zeldin is great. i think we didn't get some of the results. people believe the sugar high of those phony polls. they were republican leaning. everybody cherry picked the polls they liked. >> for all the volunteers we had, we don't bank hundreds of thousands of votes in pennsylvania which what they did
7:19 pm
to get fetterman elected. 750,000 early vote. >> whoever is running the rnc, they need to do that if they want to. >> laura: kari lake went down tonight. didn't we learn? >> donald trump told people to show up on election day. you cannot bring ballot on election day. >> you can't fix these problems after you lose. you can only fix them after you win or put the time in before hand and fix them. >> laura: we have republican governors who never done anything. who don't change can the rules. >> brian kemp did a great job. to try to match up signatures and cure it after the fact is so

>> you didn't want to get involve in the ukraine conflict. are you willing to get involve military with taiwan? >> yes. >> laura: that was back in may. as you might remember the white house had to rush in to clean up aisle four. the president spent the last six months about his great relationship and his travel of yesteryear with xi. after today and three hours with xi, biden continue playing down any new threat. >> i believe there's need not be a new cold war. we met many times with xi
7:26 pm
jinping. we were clear with one another across-the-board. i do not think there's any imminent attempt on the part of china to invade taiwan. >> laura: no threat. even joe secretary of state state last no ma china was moving to seize taiwan on a much faster timeline. that wasn't all. biden sounded more like a marriage advisor than a leader. telling xi that they could manage their differences. joining me now is stephen miller former senior advisor to president trump and former deputy assistant secretary of state. >> great to be with you. the main thing that nothing changed. china build up has not stopped. circulation has not stopped. the president saying, saying there's no imminent threat. does that tell us couple of months? what about next year?
7:27 pm
we also know that xi jinping promised barack obama that we wasn't going to militarized on south china sea. he's never come clean on covid. >> laura: steve, to that point, even though they met for three hours, the white house revealed that covid was not raised. this was questions after the wuhan lab and members of congress coming to the conclusion that this was a virus that originated in that laboratory. not even mentioned. >> it's astonishing that they would not bring up the chinese coronavirus that has brought such pain and devastation on this world and our economy. the president trump took enormous heat for pushing the idea that's been thoroughly proven that this came from a laboratory. not from nature. biden has completely capitulated to xi and china for their single

responsibility for unleashing covid on the whole of the earth. it was a disgraceful day. >> laura: when you think about where we are economically, china is dealing with their issue with their zero covid, which is brutal to the point of you can't imagine it's happening there. i want to get your response from something that tom friedman wrote last week. watch. >> u.s.-china relations is the core of stability in the world. economic prosperity. we need to find a way to collaborate with them as much as possible. >> laura: his head is floating in that blackness there. that's like the beginning of star strack. strange shot. what about that. now we should collaborate. collaborating with a slave state. we've been talking a lot about slavery.
7:29 pm
now apparently, it's to collaborate with a slave state. >> xi jinping is a task force tie. this guy is a hard man. he's prepared to lie. he's undertaking historic military buildup. said that our military readiness is sinking. they know what's going on. i think that's the key thing and the notion that we're going to collaborate and segment off nice collaboration on things that they prefer like climate change and have this control competition like on a tennis court. when you get off, you're going to have nice glass of ice tea. as pointed out, -- why are we thinking we will placate them. other thing, when you saw what biden was saying about the

republicans and democrats who agree hold the line. it's not in the interest of working americans. that's why policy about china is critical to get it right. if china will dominate the world and our economy, it's going to be much worse. there will be people who benefit. >> i never saw a globalist trade deal he didn't love. >> laura: you're right. globalism kills middle class in the united states. silent interviews and politicians who give them what in the heck is that seen and unseen. the international diplomacy version. biden and harris coming up.
