[applause] thank you. the first time i met president trump in person, he invited us to lunch, my attorney and i. and to be honest, i didn't do anything, i just sat there. i didn't really speak because i wanted to watch the man and listen to to what he had to say and what his conversation was like, because i knew he wasn't a politician, but i knew that he had been president before, and i wanted to see if he was a real, authentic man who actually cared for the american people.

and so i watched him, i watched how he interacted. i also watched how much his staff really respected him and how much his staff the loved working for him. but the things -- [applause] that changed the way that i looked at him as a person was i realized that he was a dad, that he was a grandfather, and when you spoke to him, you could see if his eyes that he genuinely cared about his fellow human being. [applause] but the thing, the thing i appreciate the most is that he heard the cries of a mother, and he cared. pleasure -- [applause] and he made a promise that he was going to protect us and that

he was going to help us. and that's all, that's all you can ask from your president but also just from a fellow human being. and so i personally, i am so honored to know this man and to think of you as a friend. [cheers and applause] we're going to be getting rid of a lot of -- last time, last term for me we had, we did something special. we cut more regulations, by four times, than any other in history, and we're going to top that record. some of those ridiculous are regulations were immediately put back on, and he were just hurting our country. that's why we had the best job numbers ever, because of what we did with regulation. you know, we cut taxes more than any president in history, and we cut regulations more than any president in history. and when i asked the people that run the big companies which is more important, cutting the taxes or cutting the

regulations, every single one of 'em so far has said the regulations were more important for jobs and everything else. who would think that? but i will order federal workers to get back to the office in person or be terminated from the job immediately. but it was the most incredible thing. and then he got into his car and/or plane and whatever, however he went, and then he went to pennsylvania and he stayed up there for a month. and helped us to win that state which we won by a lot. [applause] so he was really -- and he supplied starlink fors for north carolina when they had no form of communication. [applause] they said, sir, do you know elon musk? yeah. well, we can't get starlink, it's very hard to to get. i call elon, we have to get some up there, you've gotta get some up there, and he got over 2,000 units. that's a lot. they flooded it with starlink, and service so good. it saved a lot of lives, so we want the thank him. but, no, he's not going to be president. that, i can tell you. and i'm safe, you know why? he can't be, he wasn't born in this country.

[cheers and applause] and and at the same time, we will ban these unlawful policies from the -- we're gonna ban 'em from the private sector as well. in america we believe in the merit if system -- merit system. [applause] and if now because of the major decision handed down recently by the supreme court, our country has again gone back to the merit system. that's what made our country great. and i want to just hank the supreme court, because that -- thank the supreme court, because that took a great deal of courage for them to do that.

♪ many. ♪ >> that is president-elect donald trump speaking to a young conservative crowd in arizona at his first rally-style event since his election win. i'm mike e man well. welcome to "fox news live." edward lawrence is live in phoenix with more. hello, edward. >> reporter: yeah a, mike, this felt like a campaign victory speech. the president heavily relied on the border. it's very interesting how he spoke to this crowd which ate up his message here, talking about this is a common sense revolution. now, the president-elect said that early voting really helped him. he said that the young vote also made a difference for him in this. he heavily focused around the border. now, he's say, the president-elect saying that the golden age of america is upon us. one way or another, the border will be secure. listen to this. ♪ ♪

>> you have people that don't know what they're doing, and we're going to change it because your border is a disaster. your border is a disaster, what's going on. and you just have a few days to wait. we're going to be fully operational, i would say, by about 2:00 on the 20th. >> reporter: so the president-elect says that the trump effect has already started to bring in jobs. he points to the announcement from the softbank ceo who will invest $100 billion in the next four years and create 100,000 jobs. the president-elect says the panama canal, the fees must be fair or he will demand panama hand back the canal to the united states. earlier, i spoke to border czar tom homan who says he knows about the attack that happened in germany and worries about the gotways -- gotaways who came across the southern border over the st four years. how concerned are you that someone's already come across the border that wants to do us harm? >> we've got 2 million known

gotaways, people that don't want to be fingerprint or vetted. i don't know how many terrorists have crossed this border, but someday we're going to find out, and it's going to be a bad day for america. >> reporter: homan said he heard the mayor of chicago when he said he wasn't welcome in that city. on day one, he will be in chicago. president-elect trump says, again, for every one regulation they create, ten will be removed. this is going to be, again, the common sense revolution. mike, back to you. mike: edward, it seemed to me that the president-elect missed engaging with crowds like this. what about the feedback with the crowd, and what were some of the hit lines in terms of getting the greatest reaction from the audience there? >> reporter: yeah. the audience here ate up exactly what he was saying. in fact, many times he called up people in the crowd to congresswoman up with him. there were a couple -- come up with him. this were a couple angel moms, mother ifs of people who were

killed by illegal immigrants. so the president's message was heavily, again, relied on the border, but he covered a lot of things that he wants to do in husband first -- his first term. he says day one is going to be a very busy day. one of the items he brought up, he says he wants to end the transgender movement that's going on in elementary schools and middle schools. he says he's going to the declare officially there's only two genders here in the united states. so, again, the crowd ate this up. it seemed like a campaign event. but as the president spoke, you could tell it was more of a campaign victory speech. mike: edward lawrence, we'll let you get back to "ymca." thanks a lot. trump. and i appreciate him acting like the president since our former president is already missing the in action. mike: you were a no on the bill. was it a good bill, just not a great bill? what are your thoughts? >> yeah. i think that the difficult problem is that whatever bill you're boeing to get passed has to to get a approval from hakeem jeffries and chuck schumer. so the fact that donald trump stepped in and elon musk stepped in is, i give them credit. and i was excited to see it. they made a disastrous bill a little bit better. but at the end of the day, there's some people like me, you know, the vote that of the bill that happened including the debt ceiling was never going to happen because you have to get wins from hakeem jeffries and chuck schumer. so, for me, i -- my if district i vote to, i've never voted to raise the debt ceiling. that would have been a wasted vote. mike: congressman, we're up against the clock a bit, but i

want to ask you one last question. some people are grumbling about house speaker mike johnson. do you think his future may be in jeopardy in the new congress? >> i think mike johnson had a very difficult task this last year. he has to, had to navigate, try to get through chuck schumer and joe biden. i think that this next year, while it's going to be very difficult, i think he at least has one year of experience under his belt and, look, if donald trump is going to support mike johnson, then he is going to be the speaker. i think that he has -- this last week the promising change that turned is when he started engaging members, bringing us into the fold, bringing us into some of the discussions and negotiations. look, you've got to get early buy-in from the people who were elected, not pass bills that are a basically written by your staff. mike: congressman eric burleson from missouri, thank you for waiting around to chat. have a wonderful day, sir. >> merry christmas.

like the idea, speaker johnson backed off. so things were a little bit different. president biden releasing a statement talking about compromise, calling the agreement a compromise which means neither if side got everything it wanted, but it yee pathway to the a -- and ensures the government can continue to operate at pull capacity. the president did not take sort of any if active role, mike, in these negotiations, at least publicly. the press secretary here blamed the house speaker on issues with the negotiations. if now, here's what a passed. funding stays at current levels until mid march, includes more than $100 billion in disaster aid, $10 billion in economic aid for farmers. notice by missing, that debt limit increase, something donald trump demanded. >> they went from a 1572-page document that was full of pork down to a 117-page document. and it was only because of president trump weighing in.

[laughter] we saw president-elect trump in his element speaking to a young conservative audience. what are your key takeaways, ari? >> this reminded me of the 2007-2008 barack obama rallies. this is -- i hadn't watched a full president trump rally in a long time, i would say since 2015, 2016. now i can see why he's so popular in certain circles. he is himself. he's real, he's natural. i disagree with him on a lot of policy issues. i certainly didn't like that he used certain kind of language towards the end, but again, i can see how and why he resonated. and very quickly going back to some of the promises he made, even as a democrat, i want him to succeed. some of the good policy issues are good policies, and if he succeeds, america succeeds. yeah, we need immigration reform. i don't think mass deportation is the answer.

i think we have got to fix our border. yes, we need to improve our military. but i don't think saying things we were out of ammunition is entirely accurate. we've never been out of ammo, we're not out of ammo, the american military has never been this strong it's the strongest military on the face of of the earth, so we've got to stick to facts. mike: greta, what are your key takeaways from hearing president-elect trump on the stump? >> i agree with ari, the president was having a great time, and i think he was there to connect with voters that, you know, he really appreciates for putting him back in office and lay out a really succinct vision of where he wants america to be in the next four years. mike: crisis averted, president biden signed it. what about that issue, ari? >> you know, it's the same bill, virtually the same amount of dollars. yes, 1500 pages down to 163, 164, about a tenth in terms of paper size. virtually the same dollar amount. you don't believe me? ask nancy mace. she was on fox about an hour and

a half if ago. one of her issues with it, it's exactly the same amount. republicans, i thought they were fiscally responsible. now he wants to eliminate the debt ceiling so he can borrow and spend and borrow if spendsome he's familiar. he's done that before. he's run a couple of businesses into the ground, so he's going if to borrow and spend. we don't want to have the american government and the american economy go bankrupt just like the taj mahal on trump's watch. mike: let's be clear, everybody, i think, in government has had a role in $36 trillion to this point. greta, what about the package being signed? there's some grumbling about house speaker mike johnson with that slim of a majority, that's a brutal job. >> it's a tough job, and it's a job that mike johnson certainly wasn't seeking out, i would say, at the start of the last congress. i think he's doing a great job in certainly managing the conference that he has right now. i think he clearly has the trust of president trump. and there are no opponents that are running against him.

so i think that as we move forward into the next congress, mike johnson will be the speaker, and i think he looks forward to having to negotiate with john thune instead of chuck schumer. if. mike: interesting look at the calendar. so if the house comes in january ifrd and they vote on -- 3rd and vote on a speaker, january 6th congress needs to function to basically approve the election, right? they don't want speaker drama, do they, ari? >> you know, they don't, but that's the reasonable wing of the republican party. you've got chip roy now, it doesn't get more conservative than chip roy, and now he's got to worry about a primary to his right because he didn't go along with elon musk who is not elected, who's not even appointed officially to anything as of now. because he's been making budget decrease? they're going to have issues. matt gaetz is not there to cause problems for kevin mccarthy, but i don't think this is going to be a first-round speakership. we're going to have a few rounds of voting. this is going to be, for some

republicans, making a statement on the house floor, but every democrat is going to vote for hakeem jeffries. that's going on the on -- to be on january 6th. mike: what do you expect, greta? >> i think they have a mandate from president trump and from their voters who put them into office and made mike johnson the speaker. republicans weren't elected to elect hakeem jeffries as speaker of the house. and so i do think once president trump comes to washington and we all have a little bit of a come to jesus moment after january, i think we're going to be in a good spot. mike: come to jesus before christmas, nice job. >> merry christmas.
