they can deport them in they are at rikers island. mayor said if you are sanctuary city, if you are paying taxes, you should enjoy services or have services of emergency, healthcare or safety. but if you commit a crime, you should be able to be detained. he said city council is so liberal, they won't agree to that. >> brian: i don't think they belong here, the minute you say, if you don't commit a crime, you can stay. nobody wants to play this out. chicago, philadelphia, new york, los angeles, san francisco, why? because they get most services. >> ainsley: he's saying if you want me to win and he's better as far as more moderate, if you want me to win, think new york city. they think differently than

north carolina. >> brian: where you grew up, he believes that, unless you think he is saying it to win. he believes if you are here illegally, it is okay if you are not breaking the law and that is why we're in a mess with no border enforcement. tom homan is like, are you kidding me? that will bring other people in. >> steve: when we pressed mayor on, you have not cooperated with ice. he said, we cooperated as much as we can given fact we're in a sanctuary city that has rules and things like that. >> ainsley: how about the green light law? >> steve: it allows migrants in the country illegally to get a drivers license and they are entitled to sanctuary city stuff we've talked about. it is great they are getting on the same page. here they are talking about when they decided to meet. >> i think he had a real level of frustration and he was trying

to figure out what is going on, eric, what is happening? we were able to get in the room and articulate what are my powers and authority and what are things we need to legislatively address that is preventing us from doing what we want to do and that is getting dangerous people off the street. >> tom: i've called the mayor out many times. when i sat down with him, i saw the cop in him. he wants to help take public safety threat off the streets and make them safer and help find missing children. there are 300,000 missing children, we have to find them. we'll be working with his intelligence division officers to save these children. many are in forced sex trafficking and forced labor. i think many can agree on that.

>> ainsley: green light law, tom homan said when you pull somebody over in new york, you would read their license tag. the police officer, who we love and support and don't want them to get hurts, they can run your tag and your record comes up on the barb -- dashboard. they are not allowed. they go up to the car, they don't know their record, that hurts law enforcement. tom homan said federal government no longer giving money to new york city for roosevelt hotel where they are housing many of them. they took the money out of the bank account. >> brian: mayor adams said joe biden dumped people and left border wide open and texas is bussing people here, we have no money to pay for this. not only would joe biden not do anything, he would not return

his call and he would not even come across town. here is mayor adams talking about what he's doing, he was getting prosecuted. the charges were dropped, in turn one prosecuting attorneys quit and four others followed. here is what he said. >> steve: the acting u.s. attorney quit yesterday, so did five members of department of justice, they felt that being forced to drop corruption charges was inappropriate and they should not have asked. she said you offered to help with the migration problem and immigration agenda in exchange for the case being dropped. >> think about that, think about my attorney, alex spirro, one of the top trial attorneys in the country. imagine him going inside and

saying only way mayor adams is going to assist in immigration, which i was calling for since 2022, did that, that is quid quo pro, that is a crime. it took her three weeks to report a criminal action? this is silly. >> brian: he says no quid quo pro. he said no way i made a deal with trump to enforce illegal alien crime, kick them out, to do this. why would i do this? how would i bring that up? it is assumed he went to his inauguration, tom homan and he had a meeting. >> ainsley: he said we have to work together and find common ground. >> steve: he said it was not quid quo pro, i did not say i would work with tom homan so they would drop the case. however, new york times lays out how his dropping of the charges by doj happened.

according to new york times, in january, mr. adams lawyers went to the white house and asked for a pardon. a week later, a trump appointee called his lawyers and said let's discuss potentially dropping the charges. this was being negotiated for a while. >> ainsley: when brian and i went to the al smith dinner, i know you watched it. donald trump was at the podium, kamala decided not to go. mayo mayor deblasio is booed. he looked at them and said people tried to do this to me. you don't trust courts here, if you go against them many feel they are going to try to make you lose your election, they feel that is what happened to trump and the mayor. >> brian: they tried to ban

i was here last year as united states senator and i saw foreign secretary david lamey and joked we both have different jobs. it is time for all of our countries, fortunate to be given political power by respective people to use it wisely to improve lives. i want to say, i was fortunate in my time here to spend time outside of this conference over the last 24 hours and i've been im impressed by the hospitality of the people, even after reeling from the attack yesterday. my wife is here with me today. i was here on a personal trip and i love the city of munich and its people. we're very moved and our thoughts and prayers are with munich and everybody affected by this evil, we're thinking about

you, praying for you and will be rooting for you in the days and weeks to come. [applause] >> thank you. i hope that is not the last bit of applause i get. we gather at this conference to discuss security and normally we mean threats to our external security. i see many great military leaders gathered here today. trump administration is very concerned with you wereen security and believes that we can come to a reasonable settlement between russia and ukraine, and we also believe it is important in the coming year for europe to step up in a big way to provide for its own defense. the threat i worry most about, vis-a-vis europe, not russia, not china, not an external actor. i worry about the threat from within, the retreat of europe

from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the united states of america. a former european commissioner went on television recently and sounded delighted that romanian government had annulled entire election. he warned if things don't go to plan, the very same thing could happen in germany, too. now these cavalier statements are shocking to american ears. for years, we've been told everything we fund and support is in the name of our shared democratic values. everything from our ukraine policy to digital censorship is billed as a defense of democracy. when we see european courts cancelling elections and senior officials threatening to cancel others we ought to ask whether we are holding ourselves to appropriately high standard.

i say ourselves because i believe we're on the same team. we must do more than talk about democratic values, we must live them. within living memory of many of you in this room, the cold war posi positioned defenders of democracy and consider the side in that fight that censo censored dissidence, closed churches, cancelled elections, were they the good guys? certainly not and thank god they lost the cold war. they neither valued or respected liberty. the freedom to surprise, to make mistakes to invents, to build, as it turns out, you can't mandate innovation or createiffity and can't force people what to think, feel or believe and we believe those things are certainly connected. when i look at europe today, it

sometimes not so clear what happened to some of the cold war winners. i look to brussels, where commisars warn they intend to shut down social media moment they spot what they judge to be hateful content. this very country, police have carried out raids against citizen expected of posting antifeminist comments online as part of combating misogyny as day of action. i look to sweden, two weeks ago government convicted christian activist for participating in quran burning that resulted in his friend's murder. sweden's laws to protect free expression do not in fact and i'm quoting, a free pass to do

or say anything without risking offending the group that holding that belief. and perhaps most concerningly, i look to our dear friends, the united kingdom, backslide from conscious rights. little over two years ago british government charged adam smith connor, 51-year-old physio-therapist and army veteran with heinous crime of standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and silently praying for three minutes. not obstructing or interacting with anyone, silently praying on his own. after british law enforcement spotted him and demanded to know what he was praying for, on behalf of the unborn son he and his former girlfriend had aborted years before.

adams was found guilty of breaking buffer zone low criminalizing silent prayer that could influence a person's decision within 200 feet of abortion facility. he was forced to pay thousands in legal cost to prosecution. i wish i could say this was a one-off, badly written law being enacted against a single person. no, this last october, scottish government began distributing letters to citizens in safe access zone. warning them private prayer within their own home may amount to breaking the law. the government urged readers to report any fellow citizen guilty of thought crime in britain and across europe, free speech i fear is in retreat. in the interest of comedy and in the interest of truth, i will

admit sometimes loudest voices for censorship are not from within europe, within my own country. where prior administration threatened and bullied social media companies to censor misinformation, like for example, the idea that koerz coronavirus had leaked from a lab in china. our own country silenced people from an obvious truth. i come not with observation, with an offer. just as biden administration trump administration will do the opposite and i hope we can work together on that. in wash usington there is new sheriff in town and under donald trump leadership we may disagree with your view, we will offer it

in public square, agree or disagree. now, as i understand it, the argument was that russian disinformation had infected the romanian election and i would ask my european friends to have some perspective. you can believe it is wrong for russia to buy social media advertisement to influence elections, we do, you can condemn it on the world stage, if democracy can be destroyed with few hundred thousand dollars from a foreign country, it wasn't very strong to begin with.

good news, i happen to think your democracies are les brittle than many people fear and i believe that allowing our citizens to speak their mind will make them stronger still. which of course, brings us back to munich, where organizers of this very conference have banned lawmakers representing populous parties on left and right from participating in these conversations. again, we don't have to agree with everything or anything people say, but when people represent, political leaders represent important constituency it is incumbent to participate in dialogue with them. to many of us on the other side of the atlantic it looks more and more like old entrenched interest hiding behind soviet air words like misinformation

and disinformation that somebody might express a different opinion or god forbid vote a different way or even worse win an election. this is security conference and i'm sure you came prepared to talk about how you intend to increase defense spending over next few years in line with some new target and that is great. as president trump head matt gaetz clear, he believes our european friends must play a bigger role in the future of this continent. we don't think burden sharing it is important to be in shared alliance europeans step up while america focuses on areas of the world in great danger. let me also ask you, how will you begin to think through the kind of budgeting questions if we don't know what it is that we're defending in the first place? i've heard a lot in my
