.... lukas what can you tell us about how the school district is handling the situation. lukas: thanks tim and jenna. there has been a response by the school board in the matter, although they did not release more details referring to an ongoing investigation. superintendent doctor paul gausman held a press conference this afternoon to address sursely's arrest. gausman said he can't discuss personell matters, but that the school is cooperating with the police in the investigation. the iowa board of edation will also be handling the review of the former band director's teaching license, which may be revoked followininhis trail. and whwhe the state hahataken over this investigation, doctor gausmann says the school will use this situation to improve procedures here in sioux city. "we always engage in conversations about how we can improve our practice and we will continue to improve in that matter because the community deserves that." lukas: sursley sent his resignation to the school district this past friday and the district did hold a meeting with parents about the matter.

participate in her personel hearing..... they did make thier voices known... abc9's bria bell has more. bria: jenna, students say that finals week or weather would not be a factor in supporting a woman that they have come to care for. they say they have a lot of questions for administration, but the most importrtt thing is to be there for someone who has s made a differencnc in their liveses dr. karen walker is a ahyschology professor at wayne state college and was escorted from campus in october. rumors began to circulate about her absence and now students are asking for answers from administration. administration say they understand the student's passion, but need to trust that everything is being handled. "but we hope that at the end of the day, people will trust the process. this is a process that was agreed upon each time the faculty and the other unions here renegotiate their bargaining agreements. they sign off on this process and we have followed this process from day one to the letter," said collier. bria: a hearing was held to day to determine dr. walker's future

all of them health crises that we should be able to prevent, or at least reduce. but out of the fifty states in this country? five seem to be doing a better job than the rest. the list includes - delaware, kentucky, maine, new york and virginia. they're tied for top billing on preventing and responding to disease outbreaks, according to a new report from the trust for america's health, based on c- d-c data. the report also tracked vaccinations, finding more than one in four preschoolers across the country their recommended shots. and when it comes to the flu? only 18 states vaccinated at least half of their people in last year's flu season. most states also did not perform well against "superbugs," or antibiotic- resistant infections, which costst0 billion dolllls to treat each year -- and which kill more than 23,000 americans. so every state could do better... promoting vaccinations, jumping on foodborne bacterial outbreaks before they get out of hand. maybe next year more states will make the grade.
