market could be ready to rebound. tim the dow jones average, halved it's early day drop of more than 500 points. tim the wall street worry centers on oil prices that continue to tumble ...and many claim as oil goes, so goes the stock market. but is that cause for concern for local investors? our own jess plue has more... : jess: thanks tim and jenna... today oil prices experienced the worst one-day drop in price since september..pricin g out at 26 dollars a barrel. investors are worrying that a drop in oil prices means a drop in consumer need for fuel, overall...a slowing of the economy but..experts say..this drop in stocks, is not unusual. " what's going on now is basically what's hystorically been called a correction." says michael moreland, vp of investment services at security national bank. michael moreland, local vp of investment services, says although stocks are down, there's nothing to worry about...in fact, these fluctuations occur about every eighteen months or so. a correction is

in the stock market. "it's unexpected, it's frightening and memories are still fresh enought that people are wondering if we are heading back to where we were." says moreland the last time we experienced a continuous decline on wall street was the crash in 2008..but moreland reassured us that this is not a recession, but a correction. "the financial system and the economic system is much better prepared to meet with a difficult slowing overall environment than it was a few years ago." says moreland when it comes to manageing your finances, moreland gave us a few tips like setting up your 4-0-1-k with long- term goals in mind and..when the stocks fall, ride it out with your investments instead of immediately taking out your money. most importantly, keep an eye on your finances and don't panic. "you do get bear markets, you do get recessions, but the things that normally lead to those types of events don't seem to be in place today." says moreland jess:

only country experiencing the drop in stocks..china has its lowest closing in two years, japan is down twenty percent since june and europen benchmarks are down three to four percent. however, experst say not to expect a global collapse. for abc9 news, i'm jess plue. jenna: ames police say survelliance video from a cy- ride bus has helped them finally make an arrest in a fatal hit and run last month. authorities charged 23 year old benjamin clague from gilbert... the bus driver... with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to obey a traffic control device. police say clague's bus was empty at the time. investigators tell us video survelliance suggests clague knew he hit her. "after the intersection of the next stop, you can see him getting out of the bus, in the rain doing a walk around, a visual inspection which is not normal behavior with this driver " staff at cy-ride

for about two years... and was a good employee. a supervisor spotted the supicious survelliance video and told police. there was no visiable damage to the bus. tim: tragedy on the campaign trail after a ben carson volunteer dies in an van accident on the campaign trail. 25 year old braden joplin of midland texas was part of dr. carson's ground game in iowa. today reporter sabrina ahmed got the chance to speak with another young volunteer sitting just feet from joplin during the crash. resuming his campaign events tomorrow, beginning in iowa he'll also hold a prayer rally for braden joplin during a sioux city event saturday at the orpheum theatre. jenna: candidates continue to criss-cross the state as the days wind down until the iowa caucuses. today in burlington, hillary clinton took the stage, speaking to supporters. and she's not leaving the state anytime soon. clinton has eight official campaign stops planned between now and february first. tim: clinton's primary democratic rival seems to be polling favorably as of late, especially against the republican

in a recent head to head poll, vermont senator bernie sanders came out ahead of each of the leading presidential candidates on the repbulican side, besting each of them by double digits. tim: along with ben carson's event saturday in sioux city....a couple of republican candidates will be making some siouxland appearances. starting with mike huckabee, the former arkansas governor will be in sioux city tomorrow at the siouxland center for active generations at 8 in the morning. donald trump also will be in the area on saturday. he's be speaking at dordt college that day, starting at 11 in the morning. jenna: after interviewing all but two candidates, the des moines register has announced they'll be giving their endorsement to a presidential candidate this weekend. the boost in momentum will come from the register's editorial board, donald trump and ted cruz were not interviewed after they declined invitations to des moines. tim: educators at the university of south dakota are enhancing their "school of business" by adding different elements of other industries into the curriculum

doctor venky venkatachalam says u-s-d is utilizing new technology to implement aspects of engineering into their student's education. most recently by purchasing a 3-d- printer. something that should give graduates an edge when it comes to innovations entreprenurialshi p. "we are being able to use all of the technology here and being able to create a succesful entrepeneurnal plan requires working with engineers, working with scientists," tim: the program has been only running for 3 months and the business school plans to use the 3-d printer as a way to court prospective students to the university. tim: staying on the campus of u-s-d, the college has banned the use of hoverboards in residence halls. it's a precautionary measure taken by the school for the safety of their stdents. school administrators citing hazards associated with the devices concerning fire hazards. students can still ride the scooters on campus, they just can't keep them in the dorms.

some local senior citizens are getting help staying in their own homes, through a class aimed and helping them stay on their feet... literally. balance becomes an issue as we age, but there are simple things you can do to reduce your risk of falling. more, in tonight's your health matters. jeff, the instructor says, "we'll do the good morning stretch. bring 'em out, put 'em out there, take a deep breath, stretch a little more." stretching does a body good. jeff says, "and first, we're going to go to the right. just need a couple of those grass skirts that are up there." these simple movements... and a little fun... are helping these seniors strengthen their muscles and improve their range of motions, so they reduce their risk of falling. that's something keith mccuddin has dealt with quite a few times. keith says, "[i'm] 84. or... 83, excuse me." jenna, "i won't add another year onto

it's a common concern for folks as they age. which is why this class, balance" is offered pace, a program of st. luke's. during this one, aging adults learn simple them more steady on shirley lowe says, "they had us rolling our shoulders back, and that helps; you don't realize how that helps your shoulders." keith says, "so many sidewalks are uneven and you watch your step so you don't trip over them." they're also learning ways to make their homes safer. that's something shirley's taken away from the program after several falls. she wants to stay in her own home, but do so safely. jeff says, "as far as clutter, [you] need declutter the the home is imortant, to see where you're going. you don't want loose rugs that you might slip on." it's good advice for all of us. and, folks to stay healthy and active.

men had four players in double figures as they run past mount marty in the night cap, 87-58. in mitchell a pair of ranked matchups...the briar cliff men tie a school record with their 16th win in a row...beating dakota wesleyan 87-75. and in the womens game, kaylee blake beat the buzzer to give briar cliff a huge, 67-65 road win over the tigers. usd also in action tonight taking on east alum jc fuller and western illinois. fuller filled the stat sheet with 16 points, but the yotes won the game, 76-67.
