,, ,, happy friday. i'm britt moreno. >> today, good to have you with us. it's 5:00 this morning. here's the latest. crews in oklahoma try ing to get a hand on wild fires burning out of control. why that might happen today. thousands will pay respects to supreme court justice antonin scalia today. i'm john champion in washington with the bitter partisan debate over shadowing his memory coming up. in colorado it was a dark and snowy night. what we can expect this weekend after breaking the record high in the metro area yesterday. flags are flapping in the wind over here this morning.

they're at half staff because of the death of justice antonin scalia. your weather might be easier. we broke the high at 73 degrees in the metro. let's find out what's happen nothing the metro and in denver. >> pueblo and colorado springs did break their record. temperatures got into the 80s for pueblo. fort collins, winds heading into the foothills, black hawk, miles-an-hour. breezy -- it's going to get better in the later part of the day. 45 in boulder. 43 in fort collins. 33 in burr -- 3 in burlington. the western side of the state cool as this system eases up. the winds calm out west. taking a look at our

the road closed through tomorrow. crews are having a hard time cleaning this mess up. cbs 4 jaime leary live. she's inside the cdot traffic center in golden right now. jaime, what can you tell us? >>reporter: good morning, alan. check this out. this is where all of the monitoring of our roadways state wide goes on. these guys are responsible for talking to emergency personnel and updating our road conditions and letting those at home know what they're up against which is i-70 which is closed. not much monitoring needed, but they're paying attention to it because opening that, the days have been further. the expectation is saturday that will open because of our sporadic weather we have been seeing. high winds and adverse weather in the

glenwood springs. they help -- cdot crews were hauling everything by hand setting them several hours. officials say of the mountain. glenwood springs has been closed since monday night and crews are works as fast as the weather and the goal is to partially reopen the six mile stretch by saturday. but when that happens, it's with shuttles. >> what we'll do is open one lane that we will start running a pilot through. we'll take one lane of eastbound traffic through. we'll go and we'll turn around and bring westbound traffic through. >> and that could bring delays up to an hour long. the damage from this extensive in the millions of dollars and cdot is in the property of requesting federal disaster relief for the repairs. i talked to these guys in the office and they said the weather is looking up, so

today, we're going to see that defend, the man accused of these charges end a plea of the charges listed. that's tampering with a consumer product and stealing medication. rocky allen is in jail without bond. federal prosecutors will also ask that rocky allen remain in custody until this case is resolved. allen turned himself in earlier to u.s. marshall. he replaced is a -- people were told they have to be tested for hepatitis b and c and hiv because the syringes were switched. if convicted, he could spent 14 years in prison and pay for fine up to $500. hot, dry conditions causing trouble in oklahoma where fires rolled across the plains.

are battling grass fires around the clock. this fire cropped up in the afternoon and it's still burning. it's dry, and oklahoma forestry chief says ez has not seen these many fires since december of 2011. there were 26 fires burning in the state, and that forced evacuation. a man -- a victory for the defense team representing a long mont woman from cutting an unborn baby from a woman's wound. they can't show the autopsy for the child named aurora. wilkins was 7 months appreciation nant when attacked. a coroner found no evidence that the fetus lived outside of the wound. so lane is not charged with murder of

in the cbs 4 morning news health watch, overdose -- they're surging right now. overdose deaths from the sedatives have quadruples over that's according to the einstein college of medicine. the study found in 75% of the fatal overdoses, the sedatives were taken along with opi painkillers or alcohol. stinting and surgery are effective when it comes to lowering the risk of a stroke from an artery. the two procedures were equally beneficial in both older and younger patients as well as in male and female patients and one in three adults do not get enough sleep according to new

and adverse conditions. you get to the eisenhower tunnel. we have the closure in place on i-70 near gypsum. this is going to take you an estimated 3 hours and 50 minutes. they have a 300 cars that travel on a given day from gypsum out to glenwood springs per hour. and you're going to take all that traffic now and move it onto the side streets through steamboat springs and craig which i'm sure the small businesses are loving it. highway 40, and then back southbound along highway 13 from craig passed meeker out to rifle. that's going to take you we mentioned this earlier, alan, but amtrak is the way to do it. the train leaves at add hours, and it can be expensive, but better than sitting in traffic. the red wing rivalry may have been the -- patrick wise man practicing to get his legs

let's get to jaime leary who is in golden. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, britt. take a look at the management going on. these guys are responsible for monitoring traffic conditions across the entire state of colorado. they talked to emergency management to get everyone the information they need when traveling. they're monitoring i-70 of course. i-70 is their main concern, but another concern are the detour routes. those roads are not meant to handle the traffic they're handling. that's the concerns for i-70. the opening date keeps getting pushed back and that date is scheduled for saturday. but it's dependent upon our weather. for those people who travel the stretch of highway or have seen the damage up close, the magnitude of the rock slide is clear by now. cdot is in the process of requesting federal disaster relief assistance to

saturday -- let's check with joel. watching the drive near lucent. somebody was pulled over for speeding which you could do because there's plenty of space between the cars. you can see the cameras shaking as we head winds across the denver metro area. look at the green. we're at or near posted speed limit s s and into the high country, there's chain and passenger restrictions in place. loveland pass is closed due to the blowing snow and adverse conditions. you get to the west, and i-70 closed from gypsum to glenwood springs. the detour is a big one. it's going to take 3 hour and 50 minutes to execute. you get to see these great colorado towns, craig and meeker and rifle. yeah. that's your consolation surprise. that's going to add to your drive.
