6:30 pm
hello, everyone and welcome to the viewhouse centennial for xfinity monday live. we just keep doing these shows
6:31 pm
fantastic. broncos sitting at 4-0. joining me tonight as always during football season, mark and our guest brandon marshall. 4-0. did you get any sleep? you guys got home really late last night. did you have any chance to enjoy the victory? kind of a crazy one. >> we got a little bit of sleep. kube let us stay in for another hour. >> got back at 3 a.m. and coach says you get an extra hour. thanks, coach. [ laughter ] come on, 4-0. we could have taken monday off. >> hal out. we didn't have to meet. kind of a victory monday for us. >> you don't have to listen to the coaches yell at you about, i don't know, missing sacks. [ laughter ] come on, man. >> i'm so glad. so glad. >> you got former players. >> i need it. next time -- i got to get them down, man. >> 14-7 ball game, right? the starting quarterback, trevor siemian goes out. what do you guys talk about on
6:32 pm
>> the funny thing is we didn't even know. we look up and we look at the jumbotron and we see number 12 in the game. i'm like, what's going on? so i look to the sideline, and i see trevor over there getting checked out and i'm like, okay, we just know. the defense didn't even have to talk about anything. we just know we've got to do our part regardless. so the kid came in. started gun slinging. >> so paxton comes in, you find out because you're watching then you watch him the rest of the game, what can this guy do? >> that's exactly what we were doing. i'm thinking typical rookie quarterback thing, screens, draws, maybe quick passes. no, he's dropping back. >> right? he was just slinging it. by the seams and everything else. >> and kube had full confidence. he said we're going to let the kid work. and he did. >> you thought he is going to come in, tamper down the game plan.
6:33 pm
and out. i'm thinking run screen. run, run. you know what i'm saying? bubble screen. something like that. but no, he was driving. >> you're going to have to apologize to him. >> i will. >> [ laughter ] let's take a look at our coors light cold hard facts. how about the defense? only allowing 215 yards. five sacks. a plus 3 turnover ratio. that's all well and good. of course that kind of defense makes for a nice security blanket for rookie qb. >> those defensive guys help you out when they're forcing three and outs, three and outs, and turnovers and all that stuff. so it feels good to go out there and have a defense like that plan behind you. >> obviously you guys defensively have been phenomenal and you've been that way for the last two seasons. aqib talib though, the guy is incredible. what sets him apart? >> he's elite. he's an elite athlete but also he watches film. he studies like no other.
6:34 pm
talking routes, talking formation recognition, talking everything. so that's why he's always in position to make the play because he's a great athlete but at the same time the guy just studies. >> that second interception looked to me like he's jamming like playing the cover too, no flat threat. he spins around and basically steals a route basically in cutting route. that's what you're talking about. that's the kind of film study he goes through. >> that's the type of knew that formation, the split, he knew what was coming. he stole it. and the guy, he's elite. that's all i can say. he's elite. >> he's one of the best in the business. and he shows you why nearly every week. let's talk about this. when paxton goes in, do you guys start to think, okay, we have to play even better because you know it's a rookie quarterback? >> i mean, you would think that
6:35 pm
we were thinking do your thing, you know what i'm saying? we didn't want to put any added pressure on ourselves. last year we had to play great every game. this year the offense is helping out a whole lot. so we just say okay, we're going to do our thing. we're going to play sound football. we're going to run to the ball. we're going to hit. we're going to make plays and that's what we did. >> it was nice for you guys to get off to a nice start. >> absolutely. >> continuing our conversation with brandon marshall. of course xfinity monday live brought to you by xfinity. to get your favorite scores. but you can do it with the touch of a button and the x1 sports app makes it happen on your tv while you watch the game. check it out with xfinity x1. plenty more to come. by the way, there was a massive weather delay yesterday. maybe something a little bit interesting. something you don't necessarily game plan for. we'll talk to brandon about that and how the broncos can play

welcome back to xfinity monday live at the viewhouse centennial. how about yesterday's crazy weather down in tampa?
6:39 pm
weather storm close to the area. the game is being suspended temporarily. we'll see what happens with the storm. >> brandon, i've got to ask you, what does one do in the locker room for an hour during a weather delay? >> i was sitting there and i was on my phone. >> were you really? checking twitter or what? >> checking everything. a couple guys on their phones. we were talking ball for a little bit then we just sat everybody had their own conversation. >> how hard was it to come back and play? >> it wasn't too hard because coach kubiak, he brought us all up. he got everybody riled up and said you've still got to finish the game. we want to keep them to 7 points. it wasn't too hard to get back. >> you were saying too you guys had never been through anything like that. >> never. that's my first time ever having a weather delay of any sort. it was kind of crazy.
6:40 pm
literally. >> how hard was it too mentally? at that point you guys had the ball. you kind of know the game is in the bag. how hard mentally was it to get back in to the game mindset? >> man, you would think it would be hard but it wasn't. it was fun. we were up, and on defense, it's almost for the edge rushers, it's feeding time. so them guys was hyped up so we was hyped up. interceptions. we was excited. >> derek wolfe ended up getting a garbage time sack. you mentioned you were stretching and it's still pouring. >> and still lightning, by the way. >> okay, well, we're not going to tell roger goodell that. one of the things i love is we caught you and todd davis on the sideline. somebody asks is it going to be an issue with the rain? here's how you two responded. >> absolutely, man.
6:41 pm
anything. [ laughter ] >> rain, hail, sleet, snow, anything. you guys didn't care, right? >> absolutely. >> how much was that, okay, let's just do this so we can get on the plane and go home? >> i mean, some of it. absolutely it was some. because we played, and by the way that first half was the most tiring first half i've ever had in my life. the humidity and oh, my god, it was terrible. but in the second half we got things going and i would say we was ready to get on the plane. ready to get >> then you had a flight delay too. >> oh, my god. don't remind me. [ laughter ] >> i always look at the field conditions but the fans were able to come down to the guys who stayed, lined up the field. how cool is that? >> i feel like we have the best fans in the nfl. they were out there saying let's go broncos and it felt like a home game. the broncos fans are amazing. they travel well and they support our team. through the rain, look at them.
6:42 pm
>> reporter: how was the field conditions when you came back in? >> it was a little sloppy but they was trying to make guys change their cleats at halftime. >> did you change your cleats? >> i didn't change mine. i had them on all day. >> why waste another pair, right?
