the cu campus. he was first spotsed in the champion center. kelly is live in boulder at the campus this afternoon working the story. kelly. >> reporter: good afternoon to you. now it is not clear at this hour if the man that was shot and killed by the police was a student. but again, we no that he is dead and this all happened in the area of the champion center here, just on the other side of this fence near the field. now the police got the ll around 9:15 a.m. this morning for a man with some sort of weapon in the parking lot of the champion center, which is near folsom field, a text message went out to students and staff warning them of the incident as officers responded to the scene. now when the authorities got there, they approached the man and he had a long, sharp object. he did not comply and that is when a boulder police officer shot the man. now another text message was sent out a short time later to
