first time. our shawn chitness is live in denver with reaction from church leaders. and you see the sign behind you. shawn. >> reporter: britt, good morning. it is still here, the black lives matter sign here at this church with red paint all over it. this is first unity church. this is again, not the first time this has happened. almost to the day a year ago this church was actually hit for the same reason, having that sign up there and someone deciding to have red paint as the way this church. some of the stains from the vandalism in 2015 are still present. this time leaders with the church say it might be more meaningful to leave the sign the way it is, serving as a reminder the challenge of those supporting this cause face. a police report has been filed. but they worry they can't find the person responsible because there is no surveillance video.

from the loveland city area from yesterday. 3inches of natural snow yesterday morning and getting cold enough at night that the snow guns are able to do what they do efficiently. i think loveland can open shortly, if not by this weekend, certainly next week. keystone set to open the end of next week as well. 22 degrees up in leadville. you can see what i'm talking about with plenty of cold air in the mountains at night for the snow guns. avon 27 right now. it's 26 in limon and 36 near e burlington a beautiful day ahead for you. 72 in kit carson county later on. sterling 71. 70 in la junta. meanwhile, most mountain towns will top out in the 50s, if not lower 60s. upper 60s, close to 70 for denver and the front range. after our chilly start it will turn out to be a gorgeous day for us. look at this big swath of moisture that goes from texas all the way up into new england. few weather related delays possible today on the east coast, including around philadelphia and new york because of rain.

some of this moisture is actually making its way back towards colorado. here's why, there's an area of low pressure near tucson, arizona this morning and over the next 24 hours that low is going to move north, towards the four corners region by tomorrow afternoon and then all the way through saturday. as that happens it's going to spread moisture over our state. the mountains will see light rain and light snow from tomorrow night into saturday. probably saturday night as well rain and snow in the mountains. 2to 4 inches above 10,000 the mountains, but we'll take anything we can get. the front range and eastern plains, light rain showers expected, but most will stay south of monument hill. all the way to trinidad. and the far eastern plains saturday. small chance of rain in the forecast for denver and even smaller chance farther north towards fort collins. today in denver mostly sunny.

i know you won't forget, your known has a different -- phone has a different time on it. we move the clocks back an hour. it's my favorite weekend of the year. and it marks either the time my stove is finally right or is going to be wrong the next four months. southbound coming down into town, it's just starting to load up and that's slowing down underneath i-70. along i-70 itself, seeing more volume southbound coming down into town we have speeds into the upper 50s. ten minutes, now just 9 minutes from 120th to i-70. we watch along i-270, where it starts to load up first in the eastbound direction. but we have speeds into the 60s. that's a good sign of what is to come. across the denver metro area, watch out for a tree if you're traveling along cherry at

southbound along i-225 looking good. take a look at the drive times from the east, northbound along i-225 from mississippi to i-70. thank you very much. we have breaking news we want to bring you this morning. two american service members are dead after a raid in afghanistan. afghan officials say it happened during an assault on taliban fighters. 26 civilians died and 65 and now we are awaiting word on any identities. we could hear more later on today from nato and pentagon officials. at least 20 people are dead, including women and children in a tragic train collision in pakistan. officials say the number of dead will likely climb as at least 50 others are injured. bodies are still trapped inside that train. you can see how bad it is. it happened in the early morning hours in the southern port city of karachi. one train was parked, another

why the second driver didn't stop. there is a concerning spike in a polio like illness in several children in washington state. the outbreak is similar to one we saw two years ago here in colorado. at least two children in washington have a rare condition known as afm. seven others might have it. one of the kids died over the weekend. doctors here at childrens hospital colorado tweeted 12 patients with afm in 2014 and they noticed the cases co respiratory illness caused by a virus. >> this is a rare condition. it's something that we need to take seriously in the research and scientific communities, because of the potential for long-term and disabling consequences. >> there are many other viruses that can cause afm. the centers for disease control says it is important to have kids wash their hands often and make sure vaccines are up to

dedicated find public servants today. early yesterday they were gunned down in separate attacks. now a suspect who was known to police is awaiting charges as we try to understand why it happened. here's our daniel nottingham. >> reporter: the manhunt for scott green, who police say gunned down two iowa police officers overnight, ended quietly along this rural road, when he gave himself up to an employee of the state department of natural resources. of the dnr, presented his i.d. to that employee, and asked that that employee call 911. >> reporter: greene was wanted for killing two police officers. the first just after 1:00 a.m. in urbandale. the second, 20 minutes later and 2 miles away in des moines. police say they were ambushed. >> definitely was an opportunity for -- wasn't an opportunity for these officers
