this year. year.and...new tonight - "it's been great to have them work through their frustrations." the creative way students are learning to fix everyday problems. problems.now, the corridor's top stories and tomorrow's weather forecast in the first ten minutes. this is cbs 2 news 10 at 10. happening right now - a massive winter storm is barreling down on the east coast.the system has forced emergency declarations in six states, and six people have already been killed on icy roadways.washington, dc is expected to get hit the hardest.forecasters there say the area could get nearly three feet of snow falling at a rate of two to three inches an hour.more than 35-hundred flights have already been canceled for tomorrow. eastern iowa could soon be dealing with some snow. snow.cbs 2 chief meteorologist terry swails joins us now to tell us when the flakes will start flying.

corridor in cedar rapids, dora miller cbs 2 news ten at ten new tonight at 10, 10,a federal court is telling iowa state university to stop censoring t-shirts about legalizing pot. pot.two students filed a lawsuit against the school when i-s-u banned a pro-marijuana group from using a university logo on shirts. the court ruled today the school violated the group's free speech rights.a spokesperson for the university says the school is reviewing the case and could file an appeal. meanwhile, the c-d-c says heroin and prescription drug deaths have increased 200- percent over the past 15 years. federal lawmkaers are hoping this stark reality will convince congress to move.both chambers are working on similar legislation to add funding to drug education and treatment.the senate judiciary committee will discuss the topic on wednesday. new developments tonight, police now say there is a link

city.at about eight-30 tuesday morning, someone phoned in a bomb threat at west high school.school officials evacuated the building, but nothing was found. about 25 minutes later, officers were called to a bank robbery on william street. that's about five miles away from west high. high.officers arrested 30- year-old clifton brinkmeyer and charged him with second degree robbery.after brinkmeyer posted bond. authorities arrested him again and filed a terrorism charge against him.they say he was the one who called in the bomb threat.brinkmeyer is now being held in the johnson county jail *without bond. the russians, chinese and iranians may have accessed hillary clinton's private emails and server. server.that's the new claim coming from former defense secretary robert gates. gates.gates told a conservative radio host the odds are quote "pretty high" that u-s enemies accessed the former secretary of state's emails.clinton says any information was not classified at the time and was later

critics say charges should be presidential hopeful. fellow democrat martin o'malley will make more stops in eastern iowa this weekend. the former maryland governor will hold campaignevents in coralville, waterloo, maquoketa and davenport. despite little support in recent polls, o'malley has appeared at more events in iowa than bernie sanders and hillary clinton. with the iowa caucus' just a little over a week away, some are getting together to learn more about what it means to caucus. caucus.tonight on the university of iowa campus, some students, who still have a decade until they can vote, had a little fun learning about politics.

city council wants the public to weigh in on the ordinance. the first phase of the plan went into effect in november, raising wages to 8-20 an hour. it will be raised to 10-10 an hour next year.tiffin is considering a by pass for future increases.solon and swisher already opted out of the pay hike. cbs 2 news continues to track the the efforts to bring a mult- purpose arena to coralville. the estimated 46-million dollar arena is planned for the iowa river landing.the state will pitch in 10-million dollar for the seven-thousand seat arena, if private money can match that amount.city officials say they are making progress in that regard. among other things, supporters hope the new arena will attract another hockey franchise to eastern iowa. more than 96-million dollar is coming to iowa to improve the state's water supply.governor brandstad announced the new federal funds today.the money was awarded as part of a one billion dollar competition

tonight from the iowa attorney general about a tax scam. scam.a caller pretends to be with the i-r-s, and says an officer is coming to your house to arrest you because you owe money. experts say the i-r-s doesn't make phone calls. despite the warnings, iowa's attorney general says iowans are still falling victim to this scam. if you aren't sure if you owe money, or if you think there could be a problem with your taxes, call a tax professional - or call the i-r- s yourself.
