finally moving . a family of seven is homeless tonight, after an early morning fire in cedar rapids. it happened around 3 a-m on the 33 hundred block of westwood drive northwest.fire crews found the fire in a bedroom upstairs and were able to knock it out quickly.the home is unlivable right now because of water damage - and a lack of heat. no word yet on what caused the fire. the good news is nobody was hurt because working smoke alarms alerted the family - and they got out safely. the red cross - is helping them to recover - - but it also - hit the streets today to help others. cbs 2 news reporter - marissa scott - is in the news room - - with the story.marissa. matt and joy, you only have two minutes to escape when a home is one fire so it's very important to check and install smoke alarms every year. year.in the past year, volunteers with the american red cross have installed smoke detectors in homes around

to compete in the future city finals** in february. today, residents of the city of five seasons got to learn about the man considered to be "the father of cedar rapids" rapids"judge george greene helped grow the city from 1840 to 1880.he brought the railroad to town, donated the land and 25-thousand dollars for the first hospital, and was instrumental in founding coe college.the city's historian says that people need to understand how important george greene is to cedar rapids.
