clean up efforts are in full force on the east coast, this is a live look at washington, d,c.. you can see streets are clear here.. here..the devastating snow-storm brought several inches of snow in several states.at least 30 people have died as a result. result.snow shoveling and carbon monoxide poisioning claimed almost as many lives as car crashes this weekend. many people across that region will be facing an extended weekend, as schools and government offices are closing today to try to keep as many people off the roads as possible, that includes the federal government.in the nation's biggest city, mayor

were waiting in the running car outside, unknowingly breathing in carbon monoxide. monoxide.this all happened cause snow was ststk in the tail-pipe, forcing the exhaust to blow inside the vehicle.the mother and one of her children were killed from carbon monoxide poisioning. authorities say when there is a major snow-fall, you should shovel the snow away from the back of your car near the exhaust pipe first before you put the key in the ignition. cbs 2 news spoke with officials from alliant energy, who had similar advice, if you evererarm up yoyocar in or near your garage on a cold winter morning. the symptoms are a lot like the flu except you don't get the headache. so co poisoning is a big issue that we see especially on the coldest days... or somebody's car who's trying to heat it. either in the garage or just outside of the garage. so maybe the tailpipe is sticking out of the garage but in reality all of those fumes are going right back in police in new jersey said it only took about fifteen minutes for the gas to kill

second child who wawaalal in the car at the time, was rushed to the hospital and was last listed in critical condition.stephanie johnson, cbs 2 news. thanks stephanie,a group of *iowa kids strandededn the orm are now home.students from dowling catholic in des moines got stuck on their way home from a school trip to washington d-c. the group was stuck in a traffic jam on the pennsylvania turnpike, where they spent nearly 24 hours just sitting still.late last night, dowling catholic high school posted on their facebook page that the group made it home, safe and sound. cbs 2 news has the latest tails on a deadly y ash that tied up traffic for hours sunday on interstate 80. 80.this is video from d-o-t cameras in the east bound lanes near coral ridge mall. the iowa state patrol says three vehicles were involved, and d e 54-year-old person driving an s-u-v from swisher was killed in the crash. authorities say twenty- year-old kaitlyn richards of coralville rear ended ttt s-u-v, which then hit the back of a semi.so far the person from swisher has not* been

we are now one week away from the iowa caucuses, caucuses,and candidates spent sunday responding to the possibility of a new candidatat entering the race.former new york city mayor michael bloomberg may be considering a possible run as an independent. independent.multiple news outlets are reporting the 73-year old instructed advisers to draw up plans for a *potential campaign.they say, he's expected to make a decision sometime in march.and at least one candidate has something to say about a a *s*sond llionaire joining the race. " it will tell people what i have been saying for a long time is that this country is moving away from democracy to oligarchy. billionaires are the people that are controlling our political life. that is what, what is not what in my view american democracy is supposed to be about a contest between billionaires. if that takes place, i'm confident we will win it." it."so far, bloomberg has not commented publicly about any of it.many republicans are shrugging him off, sayin they'll wait to see if he actually joins the race.

cbs 2 news has the latest details now on a strong earth-quake thatattruck south central alaska, causing gas leaks, house fires and power outages. outages.the quake hit early sunday morning, about 160 miles south-west of anchorage. the u-s geological survey said the quake had a magnitude of seven-point-one.police in anchorage and kenai report no injuries or major damage.two dozen homes had to be evacuated, ananone exploded from a gas leak. new this morning.. morning..an american airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing in canada after severe turbulence.seven people are now recovering from injuries.ambulances and paramedics were waiting on the tarmac with stretchers when the plane landed.the flight was headed from miami to milan, italy with 192 passengers and 11 crew members on board.three flight attendants and four passengers were hospitalized. a follow up to the water crisis in flint, michigan.. michigan..the state's attorney general is expected to give an update into his investigation at a press conference this morning.
