white house is the two major candidates take the stage today. we have another storm coming through eastern iowa. spotty -- spotty showers are moving through surrounding cedar rapids and waterloo as well as the city of tama as these move to the north and east. i'm keeping my eye on a complex further to the north and east which is some wide spread heavy rainfall that will be our next big round of rainfall that could lead to the potential for flash flooding. the rain starts to move in after 1:00 p.m. it could last for a couple of hours and we could see it going on and off until 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. this evening. scattered activity into the overnight hours. that is why we have flood watch

serious trouble for spray painting construction equipment at a dakota access pipeline protest in north dakota.the charges would be for trespassing and vandalism. a spokeswomen for stein says activists invited her to leave a message at the site -- so she wrote "i approve this message" in red spray paint on the blade of a bulldozer. linn county is now just one step away awayfrom raising the minimum wage county wide. red spray paint. one step away from raising the today the board of supervisors voted the second of third votes. if passed it would increase to $10 -- $10.25 over the next three years. currently it is $7.25. if the ordinance passes the workers would see a dollar increase in january 2017. board members will take the

cedar rapids leaders want the city to move on from building up a sena -- a casino. the state shot down a casino being built downtown. now three members told the gazette they want to look at other options for the large plot of city owned land along first avenue. despite the call, the mayor says his opinion has not upits investigation into an inappropriate relationship between a substitute teacher and a washington high school st. student.the district says some into an in and -- an inappropriate relationship. the district said some details in the investigation have to be kept confidential but also said the initial probe in february was not effective. in fact it was not reported to the district at the time the district also said merry beth haglund should have been removed from the substitute teacher list during the investigation. just in. riley's restaurant is reopening

restaurant owned by the same people. riley's is closed this afternoon after a fire badly restaurant was closed at the time -- a manager at moose mcduffy's bar which is right next door called in the fire. the fire department sent every truck and firefighter they had to battle the fire in 90-degree heat.cbs 2 news talked to the owners of both businesses at the scene. towns of los cabos are cleaning welcome back. people in los cabos are cleaning up after hurricane newton ripped through tuesday. the storm shattered windows and took down trees and knocked out power on the tip of the hot california. newton made landfall as a category one storm with winds of up to 90 miles per hour fortunately it wasn't as bad as the last major storm that hit that area. >> we pray for the a rough one, as you can see. they are out there cleaning and we are just trying to get back -- give back to the community. >>reporter: in 2014 composting looses -- lucas suffered heavy damage and they were hammered by a category three hurricane. we're in the weather center now and we have been getting a lot of rain. we've been talking about flash flooding all morning long.

storm and has actually been sending a lot of moisture to the midwest. that's why it feels very tropical outside. it feels almost like we are both from florida and it feels like you are in florida and it's going to continue to bring the potential for heavy rainfall throughout the day and we are divided now in the area in terms of where we see sunshine and clouds with a stick around and we've warmed up into the 80s. cedar rapids. further to the north stuck in the 70s and really in the south it is getting humid. areawide it as humid. we will continue to feel humidity and bugginess throughout the day because of the tropical moisture in place. it will lead to additional showers and thunderstorms. right now we have activity moving through blackhawk into oelein and pushing to the north and east and a few light showers and it will continue to

keeping my eyes on is this complex near des moines with more widespread rainfall that will continue to move to the north and east and it is developing for the to the south where there is more instability in the atmosphere. near and south of highway 30 is where there could be heavier rain and lightning is the system continues to move to the north and east could bring additional heavy rain. we already saw heavy rainfall in the northeast where bluffton they got upwards of 5.5 inches of rain, dorchester four inches there and close to three inches into corot this morning and are expecting additional rainfall totals through -- in decorah and upwards of five or six inches of rain. there are flash flood watches and effect across the entire

exception of two county's that is due to heavy rainfall and especially in the central part of our area, a close eye for the potential of flash flooding. the brighter green is the potential for flash flooding. we will have the next round move through within the hour and we could see rain fall on and off heavy threw 1:00 p.m. threw 7:00 p.m. and additional showers and thunderstorms develop it is also stayed with the slow moving cold front. once again there is the connection through newton moving through portions of mexico and into portions of the southwest and ascending tropical moisture to the northwest and as this front moves through we continue to have showers and storms we will dry out as we head into thursday and we will have some dry time. friday morning we can see additional development with another cold front moving through iowa on friday.
