forecast in the first 10 minutes. this is cbs 2 news. >> thousands of people continue to protest the development of oil pipelines in the midwest. not everyone is opposed to the plants. cbs 2 news investigates both sides of the pipeline controversy. first at 10 flooding, strong winds, to date is made for threatening day in several counties. let's go to meteorologist terry swails for a look at your weather first forest parts of our viewing area and flash flooding is occurring here look at these flash flood warning's that are in effect. they include chickasaw, butler, reamer and floyd counties. some of these warnings will be out until three or four clock in the morning. we have seen heavy rains in parts of floyd and northern butler counties. this is northeastern iowa and this is allamakee. there's

now in the southwest you can see another strong cell that is located to the north of sumner. this is located to the north of highway 20. this storm tracking to the north of be around hawkeye, west union and claremont between now and 11:00 tonight. heavy rainfall is the primary threat. additional storms are expected around eastern iowa as we go to the nighttime hours. a flash flood watch is out to the north. we are expecting more heavy rain and flooding problems around the northern parts of the viewing area. >> we have breaking news related to the weather. firefighters in charles city are going door to door to warn residents that evacuations could be ordered at any time between now and friday afternoon when the cedar river could be cresting. >> in floyd county they are saying travel is not advised. more rain is expected there.

>> we continue now with the corridor top stories. david miller will be going to prison for the brutal murder of sabrina hustad janish. it will not be for the length of time family wanted. a benton county jury convict did miller of not the first- degree murder charge. in stead of life behind bars he will face up to 10 years. >> there were things in this case that we could not give them a timeout death. we you know, maybe they wanted something that we couldn't give them." them."miller was also convicted of two counts of 2nd degree theft.the prosecution wants 15-years for each of those counts.a sentencing date has not been set. a woman is dead after a violent three-vehicle crash in cedar rapids. rapids.it happened on j-street southwest north of hawkeye downs road around 11-30 this morning.a woman in a car died at the scene.a woman and child

is happening all over the northern part. >> a lot of flash flood warnings. that water will come downstream and in the cedar river we are expecting moderate flooding in waterloo and major flooding in vinton in cedar rapids here in cedar rapids there may be a crust of 20 feet. before 2008 that was the old time -- ultimate record. closely with more rain in the forecast. here are some of the rainfall estimates from our radar. in one of the areas that was hardest hit tonight and what you are looking at here is floyd county and northern butler county and then getting into chickasaw county. all of this area where you are looking whites into these purples that's 5 to 10 inches of rain had come down in

that will all come down stream. here's some of the flash flood warning that are in effect. you have chickasaw, butler, bremer and floyd county. you can see the expiration times on these. as scott mentioned this is a fluid situation. these could be extended and go out further into the nighttime hours. here's a flash flood watch which has been in effect since yesterday. it will be out until 7:00 on thursday. it covers a large portion of northern and northeast iowa so waterloo, oelwein caught decorah and charles city involved in that. as we go to the radar up in the northeast iowa isn't allamakee county. there's decorah and walk on. still heavy showers and storms scattered around that area. some of the heaviest has passed on by. now to the south near west

and head of towards postville in the next few minutes. west union in the track of that. further off to the northwest look at these thunderstorms that are taking off in minnesota. the low-level jet is starting to crank. if our models are correct this is expected to sag southward. so more thunder storms beyond what you are seeing. that's why we are concerned about the flooding threat in northern iowa have seen already 48 inches of rain this year. it is soggy up that way. as we go to our predictor this is at midnight and this is the model it does showed that thunderstorms starting to drop further to the south east and but how will get to for clock in the morning they are back in the areas that have seen heavy rain already. here at 60 up in the morning storms across the north and west and finally towards 8 am as we start to get into the central counties and from there

done with the thunder storms. those will be in the forecast for a few more days. our predictor you can see this is a problem in here. we have a front that is stationary. that is not going to budge for several days to come and that will be the focus for more showers and thunderstorms and local heavy rain. tonight look for low temperatures that will be in the midshipman to upper 60s. most of the storm should be in the northern half of our viewing area and mild on the temperatures. for tomorrow it looks like readings will be in the mid-70s in the n midshipman 80s in the south with scattered storms are likely early and late in the afternoon. we may have breaks in there during the day. for tomorrow night more storms expected. they should taper off on saturday -- friday. the main for it comes through on sunday with more rain and storms and after that things cool down. next week's highs will be into the 60s. this heavy rain threat will be with us at least for the next

wave of storms is making progress out to the north east and getting out of our viewing area. there are additional storms developing in minnesota and are expected to turn southeast later on tonight. if they do that, and move back to the north more flash flooding in other areas will be a possibility late tonight and tomorrow morning. that's up to mother nature to decide how that works. the rain threat will last through to northern counties. we are not done with this until late into the week. >> this is not a one and done. >> i'm afraid not. flooding now expected in cedar rapids.
