we have a quiet radar out to our west in western iowa and their is a cold front there and that front is going to be bringing us showers and storms tonight. there is a risk, a low risk for severe weather in our area near and south of highway 20. that is where there could be be storms that will produce strong winds. overall, the risk is low. those storms will start to enter the area about 7 pm. it will probably be further to the west by seven and continue to move to the overnight hours. at 10 pm, we have strong activity near dubuque and could still see a wave of energy through midnight tonight with showers and storms continuing to push through the area. we will start to dry out by the morning commute. we will have clouds, but some

cleared out after the flood of oh-eight. eight.united fire buys long- vacant may's drug building the former may's drug building on second st. in downtown cedar rapids has also been sold, this time to united fire group. the two-story building is remembered by many for its history as may's drug store; it was more recently home to legends nightclub, started by hawkeye legend roy marble. it was heavily damaged after the flood of 2008, and has sat vacant since then. about $250,000, and it comes as part of the company's recent buying spree. it has already acquired the american building and the downtown drug building, and announced plans to build a 10-story office tower. cornell college opens brackett house b&b after restoration

the university of iowa's visual arts building is receiving national attent the university of iowa's visual arts the link is receiving national attention for its architecture. the new building cost university $77 million to build and it took more than a year to complete after the floods of 2008. the finished product comes with five floors and nine galleries. the building features unique spaces for students and staff. the building is open public to tour next week. there will be a student exhibition. each of their works will be displayed in rotation. and over in weather, we have a chance for just showers and thunderstorms tonight as we move through the later part of this evening and overnight. right now, it is mostly dry. we have some areas of light rain to the north of waterloo, but out to the west, that is where

is going to be the main driver of showers and thunderstorms later on tonight. we have a few hours before it arrives and we do have a low risk for strong to possibly severe thunderstorms. the higher risk is down to our southwest in southwestern parts of the state. but for areas of -- for areas along and south of highway 20, there is a low risk that there will be strong storms. if they do develop winds would be the main concern tonight. but the timing is a little late and we have had clouds much of the day today so that is why the risk is overall low. but on this predictor, we can see showers and thunderstorms move in around 7 pm and they will continue to move in the area. by 9 pm, we will have a pretty lit up radar across eastern iowa and we will have scattered showers and thunderstorms moving through by midnight. after midnight, some of the activity will start to die down. we could still have showers and

will start to dry out by morning. by 6 am, it should be dry. we will have clouds in the sky but they will start rapidly as the day goes on on friday. the predictor is still moving here and we will have plenty of sunshine and their skies as we start the weekend. this is all with a big storm system moving to the midwest right now and has led to tornados down in portions of kansas, further to the north in nebraska, there has been snow happening. for us, we will get the showers and storms we will get cooler air, though, that will move in behind it. behind the cold front, a big area of high pressure is moving in and so will some very cool air. it is already occurring in other parts of the midwest. this time yesterday, it was 32 degrees in north platte. so temperatures are falling and the cool air is heading our way and you will notice it by

get through. it will be cloudy through the latter part of the night and temperatures will fall down into the 40s. when you step outside in the morning, you will make -- likely need a jacket or sweater because temperatures just rise into the 50s and 60s. despite the sunshine, we will see later on in the day, will have a 55 forehand decorah, 60 degrees in cedar rapids go this is cool for this type of years best this time of year. it is about 5 degrees below normal for this time of year but who can complain? some nice fall weather headed our way in time for the weekend. by tonight, temperatures could be getting down into the 30s in spots. by saturday morning, it will be a cool one. temperatures will be the 60s and 70s on saturday and sunday. low chance for rain on monday and it will be pretty good- looking the next seven days.
