>> it is just a little more than two weeks ago napa state hospital rolled out its newest alarm. a wireless system transmitting signals during emergencies. and abc 7 news was invited to observe the first day from the system command center but workers told us they didn't like wearing lan yards which are attached because attackers could use to it choke them. two days later, it happened. just like predicted. a patient tried to strangle a worker with a lanyard. >> he's fine and was released from the emergency room that evening. >> and members of the biggest union have filed a grievance charging the new alarms are malfunctioning, many are defective and go off when there are no emergencies. the union says it's giving a false sense of security. >> they should pull them back and make sure they're working

properly. >> abc 7 news learned the hospital was having so much trouble, with the new alarms in this section that they pulled them yesterday from staffers there and equipped them with old alarms, the subject of complaints. today, officials met with many of the 900 members. one big issue is that hospital is making staff responsible for charging the alarms. >> if not charged they're being sent home, docked pay because at larm is not functioning. >> and in sacramento, you lose half of the day. just getting it. >> and there has been more violent attacks here. a patient two, workers have been assaulted in three days. all victims were sent to local hospitals to be treated. officials tell us they'd like to resolve issues by meeting

with the hospital and say that is still possible though they have filed a grievance z neither hospital nor the state department of hospitals in sacramento returned our calls. >> thank you. >> and when police tried to pull over a car full of suspected burglars today it led to a chase across several bay area freeways and it started on interstate 780, ending when the car crashed at highway 13 and 24. police arrested two men but the hunt continues for a third. abc 7 news is live where it ended. nick? >> good evening. we're live where that high-speed chase ended right here in the intersection of highway 24 west and 13, south. police tell us that when asked expects to pull over, they chose not to. they did not pull over and gave chase. it all ended here. sky 7 was overhead when a chase that started in vallejo ended with a driver of the suv

crashing his vehicle at a north oakland ramp. >> there is a speeding ubt that jumped out. >> a primt ter put into place. within minutes two were taken into custody. a search continues for the third and police weren't taking chances. owe fishes tell us i was on lock down skt order breeched and administrators nearly told us, quote, everything is fine. >> there is help requested when the driver ignored requests to stop and instead, took off. police tell us not only did they want to elude capture but did their best to get rid of the stolen good autos and and and they tried to get rid of evidence. >> and most tossed items

explosion was mistaken by posted on the internet showing pg&e paid $1.8 million to a teen-aged girl that suffered burns two years ago. abc 7 news confirmed the information on the san mateo county superior court web site has been taken down and sealed. pg&e settled a quarter of the claims and paid $145 million. details of the settlements have not been made public. >> we have hard new numbers tonight on just how long kit take for a bay area veteran to collect on a disability claim with the va. the findings published today by one of our media partners, california watch. abc 7 news is here with the details and it's longer than people might thigh it is and here in the bay area and across california, veterans waiting more than nine months, nearly a year to hear a

decision on a war-related claim z the veteran in waiting with whom i spoke today just went for service and her sacrifice to be acknowledged. >> and rez den -- wasn't until recently i realized something wasn't right with me. >> she was a prison guard in iraq. >> i didn't have plates so i was there with out protection. >> she wasn't wounded in iraq but nine years later finds herself hype year ware of her surroundings. >> and i think it's because i didn't have the protection that i have to be more aware. >> the stigma kept her from seeking help. what led her to the county veteran service office was a foot and ankle injury sustained in basic training. >> he started asking me questions like where do you it? restaurants? that kind of thing. i'm like... i sit to the -- not facing so i can see the door.

are things sunny and mild at the coast. let's take a look at live doppler 7 hd radar image of tropical storm isaac. it's still wreaking havoc here this is a area covered by a tornado watch. the bands around storms often spawn tornadoes. so tornado watch for a large part of the two states of mississippi and louisiana, here is the expected path of the storm. it's weakened to winds of 60 miles per hour and there is a dangerous tropical storm and expected to go up north through arkansas, missouri and into illinois. there is a big rain producing storm there is next 48 hours, expecting another seven to 14

inches of rain. so this rainls on ask we'll continue to follow it. sunny skies from coast to inland. no marl showing signs of developing yet. it's 88 in san rafael. take a look at inland east bay low to mid-90s there. there is 70s near in san francisco. slightly cooler conditions tomorrow and much cooler friday and saturday. there is fog coming back to the coastline, then overnight there are upper 40s to around 50. and at 5:00 in the morning we'll see fog burning away from the coastline producing another sunny day from coast to inland z high temperatures

into 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay. upper 80s to near 90 and there are high clouds. sunny skies, highs into lee 80s. there is 82 in campbell. 76 in menlo park. 78 mountain view. low to mid-60s in pacifica. the coast will be mild as well. there is 70 degrees in downtown san francisco. low to mid-80s in the north bay. there is 79 in fremont. mainly mid to upper 07s and here is the accu-weather forecast. there is a cool down friday and saturday. and low 70s around the bay, upper 50s on the coast.

a south san francisco police officer who shot and killed a teenager won't face criminal charges police responded to a report of two juveniles acting suspiciously. one juvenile ran from police and officers claim he pointed a gun on him. a report released today by the district attorney says the officer fired in self-defense and that no criminal charges would be pursued. >> there is an important street closure affecting drivers starting friday at 10:00 in the morning fremont street will be closed and it's all part of a construction of the new transbay transit terminal there. is time lapse vido that is similar to this project on 1th
