international airport after false reports of an active shooter sent passengers scrambling, sprinting for shelter even out onto the tarmac. it is raising big questions again about airport security and abc's kayna whitworth is on the scene at l.a.x. good morning, kayna. >> reporter: yeah, george, good morning. it was definitely scary and like you said it was a false alarm. reports of an active shooter here at los angeles international airport causing widespread panic and flight delays. you can see people behind me, they're just now getting rebooked after spending the night in the airport. >> a shooting in progress, l.a.x. >> reporter: overnight, pandemonium in one of the world's busiest airports. >> unknown number of shots. people running all directions. >> reporter: reports of an active shooter causing chaos at l.a.x. just before 9:00 p.m. sunday evening. >> a wall of people all running at a full pace. >> reporter: hundreds of passengers evacuating from at least four terminals running for safety through emergency exits and onto the tarmac. many more stampeding to baggage

claim. >> all of a sudden there was a flood of people saying there was a shooter. everyone was in a huge panic. >> reporter: planes grounded while authorities searched the airport. >> they came sprinting back screaming, get down on the ground, stay on the ground. every one of us was very scared. >> reporter: trying to identify a possible shooter. police with guns drawn, passengers dropping to the ground. detaining this man in a zorro costume. l.a. abc station kabc interviewing the man after he was released. he was so shaken he didn't want to show his face on camera. >> i get a police all around me tell me to put your hands up, put your hands up. i'm not even thinking about what i was wearing and then i had no weapons on me or anything. >> reporter: but this morning police say it was all a false alarm. >> no evidence of a shooting or anyone down. >> reporter: reports of an active shooter proven to be nothing more than loud noises. this just weeks following a similar evacuation at jfk.

that scare provoked by loud noises from olympic celebrations. hundreds of people were able to push through doors and get onto the tarmac right next to planes. that's a normally restricted area and a security risk and this morning they're investigating to find out where those noises came from. amy. >> what a frightening evening, kayna, thank you so much. well, now to those tropical threats, storms moving toward the atlantic and gulf coast and now north carolina facing a tropical storm watch. ginger is here with the latest. good morning, ginger. >> good morning to you. three areas of concern. we've got gaston out there that will stay out away from land but that, of course, is the first major hurricane of the season. but it is the tropical depressions both by the east coast there with the tropical storm watch in effect for parts of the outer banks and north carolina. that's for tuesday. so this is coming at us more imminently. and you can see the path there, it turns back out to sea not without giving quite a bit of rain and certainly some wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour tuesday.

then the timing goes wednesday into thursday when we start to be concerned about tropical depression 9. again, these will race for names. as far as hermine or ian. we'll have to see which one develops first. it turns and makes its way toward florida. toward that big bend and just north of tampa at this point. that's how the computer models have it. again, i think it will be mostly a heavy rain and wind event. but we'll be updating. george. we'll move on to the race for the white house and donald trump announcing he will deliver a major speech on immigration this week. trying to clear up confusion after he and his surrogates sent conflicting messages last week. abc's cecilia vega has the story. >> reporter: good morning. that speech will be in arizona and all eyes will be watching to see if donald trump clarifies what many now view to be a murky position on one of his signature policy issues. this morning, donald trump prepping for a major speech on immigration. the very speech he recently canceled during his campaign shake-up. now, the candidate has a new

message and he is sticking to it. >> we will use immigration law to prevent crimes. >> reporter: his surrogates out in force saying he's not flip-flopping on immigration. chris christie says his position hasn't changed. >> this is a guy who has been very consistent on no amnesty, no legalization for folks who have been coming into the country illegally. >> reporter: but trump appears to be softening his stance. this was trump last year. >> you're going to have a deportation force and you're going to do it humanely. >> reporter: now it seems no more deportation force. >> he is not talking about a deportation force but he is talking about being fair and humane. >> reporter: over the weekend, the republican candidate trying to clean up after another controversial tweet weighing in on the chicago shooting of an nba star's cousin. at first, misspelling dwyane wade's name and rather than expressing condolences, making a political plea writing, "just what i have been saying, african-americans will vote trump."

the foundation and a top clinton adviser. abc's david wright here with the latest on that. david, good morning. >> good morning, amy, the trump campaign has been calling the clinton foundation a massive pay for play operation, accusing them of selling access to the clinton state department. well, these e-mails don't prove that but they do show close ties between the foundation and clinton's inner circle. that woman leaving a campaign fund-raiser with hillary clinton last night is huma abedin, one of clinton's closest aides. this morning, new questions about whether abedin arranged special access for big contributors to the clinton foundation during clinton's tenure as secretary of state. e-mails released as part of a lawsuit by the conservative group citizens united reveal close ties between the two senior staffs. in one exchange, foundation executive doug band offers names for a state department lunch with chinese president hu jintao, three of them executives at organizations that gave the

foundation millions. later band followed up asking that one of the three guests be seated at vice president joe biden's table, i'll ask, replied abedin. >> hillary clinton's corruption has been exposed again. >> reporter: the trump campaign now has a new web ad calling the clinton foundation a slush fund. >> allegations of pay to play. >> reporter: trump himself has seized on the issue. >> the whole world has been shocked by the continuing revelations regarding hillary clinton and her pay for play state department. >> reporter: the state department denies any of the foundation donors bought influence. so do hillary clinton's supporters. >> we all think criminalized behavior that is normal and i don't see what the smoke is. >> reporter: and secretary clinton herself. >> my work as secretary of state was not influenced by any outside forces. >> reporter: the clinton campaign says the release of these e-mails is a political attack trying to make something

out of nothing. and as if huma abedin didn't have enough on her plate today there is another scandal involving her husband, anthony weiner, he resigned from congress in disgrace after a sexting scandal. well, he is back in the news today. "the new york post" detailing a whole new round of sordid sex messages. let's talk about it with matthew dowd and start out with hillary clinton and those -- that news story as well. anthony wiener, a third time. this is going to get in the way of their message, also the continuing drip, drip, drip of these e-mails even as hillary clinton says and their contention is it shows no special action. >> it's an amazing situation that neither of these candidates, donald trump or hillary clinton, can seem to put away the other one because of their own problems that have developed in the course of this whole thing. i think we talk about the changes in donald trump's campaign. the best person that donald trump has going for him is

julian assange who basically has the capacity to release a bunch more e-mails that could get hillary clinton into trouble. i think we'll see it for the next 70 days, george. >> you also saw this morning that new ad that cecilia talked about. i'll play a little bit, it is focused on the economy. >> in hillary clinton's america, the middle class gets crushed spending goes up, taxes go up. hundreds of thousands of jobs disappear. it's more of the same but worse. >> i think a lot of supporters look at that and say, hey, it's about time. there is an ad focused on the number one issue in the campaign and focused on what everybody wants, change. >> well, absolutely, that's the first time i think in 400 days that we've actually seen a message that was pointed and that was right on. the economy is the number one issue. the people are upset with the status quo in the course of this and it's the first time we've seen an ad like this but that ad will not help unless donald trump stays on message. >> and you have this speech coming up on wednesday, immigration, his signature issue, can he come up with a consistent position? >> well, he's changed positions so many times. we ought to get ginger involved

and i feel like that flag represents what it's supposed to represent i'll stand. >> kaepernick to the runner. >> reporter: the 49ers dual threat quarterback with the rocket arm and lightning-quick feet staying seated during the national anthem at friday's preseason game telling the nfl network, i'm not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. >> i have experienced this. people close to me have experienced this. so, it's something that needs to be addressed. >> reporter: kaepernick clarifying sunday that refusing to honor the flag doesn't mean he's disrespecting the military. >> people are dying in vain because this country isn't holding their end of the bargain up as far as, you know, giving freedom and justice and liberty to everybody. >> reporter: the 28-year-old frequently outspoken on civil rights issues online seemingly began his protest weeks earlier sitting during the anthem for the team's previous two preseason games. though few seemed to notice but after friday's game, outrage, thousands flooding his twitter page with comments.

giants receiver victor cruz saying sitting down isn't the right way to stand up. >> you have to stand up there with your team and understand that it's just a game and what's going on around the country is bigger than just you. >> reporter: others defending kaepernick. dallas mavericks' mark cuban weighing in, he didn't throw a bomb, fire a shot, start a riot, throw a punch. he just sat there quietly. kaepernick says the vitriol he's now facing is worth it to make a point. >> i've had a lot of people come up to me and say, you know, i really respect you for what you're doing and what you're standing for. >> reporter: the nfl telling abc news in a statement players are encouraged but not required to stand during the national anthem. but when asked if this will get him cut from the team, the quarterback says he doesn't know adding that if he's cut, he feels he did what he feels is right and he can live with that at the end of the day, george. >> okay, ryan, thanks. let's bring in espn's stephen a. smith for more on

this. you've done a lot on this whole issue of violence and have had special shows on it as well. what's your take on what he is doing? >> i understand it and i respect it. i respectfully disagree with how he went about doing it because it's certainly not something i would have done but at the same time we also have to understand that the first amendment to our constitution is, you know, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and that's one of the things he exercised here. he wanted to make a point and as mark cuban pointed out he didn't, you know, he didn't plant a bomb, he didn't shoot anybody. he didn't do anything. he made a silent protest. he's an unabashed supporter of black lives matter. he addressed the issue of police brutality as insensitive to why he was taking the position he took. we understand it and, you know, a lot of people within the black community i can tell you for a fact absolutely agree with him. a lot of people don't agree with how he went about doing it. >> well, let's get into that. what about the criticism about how he went about doing it. some saying it's a distraction from his job. >> well, you could -- that's a valid point in some people's eyes but people take stances all the time. if you remember when trayvon martin transpired and other things happened as it pertained to the actions against

african-americans you had nba players putting on t-shirts and some people thought that was a distraction, obviously they begged to differ. you see silent protests taking place in recent memory. people who are against the positions that these athletes take will always find an excuse to say that it is a distraction. but what they have to understand particularly when it's emanating from the black community in particular a black athlete, the mere fact that it's being debated, or people are questioning whether or not it's a distraction, what you're saying to yourself is to not supposed to be a distraction. we're trying to bring attention to an issue. colin kaepernick obviously felt that way and even though some people would disagree there are other was would stand by him and say they don't have a problem with what he's doing. >> what will this mean for his job? >> well, it depends. if he can still play, it won't mean much. it'll mean a lot in terms of endorsements. he's definitely going to feel the pinch there and i think he spoke to the fact that he certainly knows that's coming. but as it pertains to him having a job in the nfl i don't think this is an issue.

i think the fact that he looks a bit subpar and he's coming off a season where he was a bit subpar, only threw six touchdown, five interceptions, he doesn't look that impressive and there's rumors as to whether or not he's going to get cut. in the end if you can play, there will be somebody who will give you a job because their primary obligation is to try to win football games. if you cannot play they will find an excuse to get rid of you. it is that simple. this won't determine his future as a quarterback in the nfl. his play will. >> okay, stephen a. smith, thanks very much. >> no problem. and now to the latest twist in the mysterious murder of a florida professor, abc news obtaining dramatic video showing the moment police told his ex-wife about the shooting. two men are now under arrest but police are investigating the possibility his ex-wife or her family were involved. abc's matt gutman has the latest. >> reporter: this morning, abc news has obtained video showing the moment wendi adelson learns from police that her former

husband dan markel has been shot at his home. >> your ex-husband, he's not going to survive. >> my god. when did this happen? >> reporter: in july 2014, the florida state university law professor was shot in the head in the garage of his tallahassee home in what police say was a targeted killing. >> scared for the kids. >> reporter: later in her five-hour-long interview with police adelson relays a curious comment she says her brother charlie made on the morning of the murder about a tv set he bought for her. >> he knew danny treated me badly and there was always this joke, he said, you know, i looked into hiring a hit man and it was cheaper to get you this tv. >> reporter: if it's a joke it may be an eye-opening one because police believe charlie adelson has a link to one of the two suspected hit men arrested this may for markel's killing. both of whom have pleaded not guilty. police allege that after a bitter divorce, the adelson

so, tell us about these new developments just in. >> just in this morning. amy, good morning to you. so the epipen price now for a generic version is going to be half the price of the original. the epipen maker this morning mylan announcing there will be this new generic version available in several weeks that will cost $300 for a two-pack, that's half the price of the original so the prices, they're moving in the right direction. they're moving lower. there's also for people out there who are a little bit confused about this. there's also another different alternative to the epipen. it's called the adrena-click and that also is available at a lower price than the epipen, you can get it with a good rx coupon for $140. some co-pays will get you there lower but you have to talk to your doctor because it's so important that you get the prescription from your doctor for the one that you want, amy. >> rebecca, you talked about alternatives. some people have been turning to expired epipens in order to save

some money, is that ever a good idea? >> this is not a good idea, george. unfortunately, these things have expiration dates on them for a reason because the epinephrine, the drug that saves people's lives deteriorates over time. the other thing that's a terrible idea buying them on ebay. you don't know where they're coming from. >> rebecca jarvis, thanks so much. we're going to move on to a new report on kids and sports and it's from the american academy of pediatrics warns parents against letting their kids specialize in one sport too early. dr. jen is with us and it says this focus could lead to physical, emotional, social problems. what do you make of it? >> well, here's what we're talking about, george, in terms of physical, of course, we've heard it before. there is a risk of overuse injuries, especially when young kids dedicate themselves really to one sport. the so-called specialization. emotional risk, there could be burnout here and then psychological even, there is a risk that if you expose a young child to one sport as their identity is developing, they could start to see themselves as i'm just a soccer player. i'm just a tennis player and if or when that sport stops, they

don't know who they are. so this is a huge push now in youth sports about diversifying and we need to know some numbers here, about 70% of kids who participate in youth sports drop out by age 13. and reality check, only about 3% to 11% will make it to play at the college level. so, if that is your goal or your child's goal you better understand college coaches, yes, they want great hockey players, they want great soccer players but more than that they want great athletes and that means being well-rounded. >> what do you do, jen, if you buy into this as a parent but your child really just wants to play that one sport? >> well, this is my life, you guys, because you know i have a 16-year-old daughter who plays ice hockey. she's been playing for 11 years and we forced her to take three months off a year and we forced her kind of to pick up a sport which she's done reluctantly. coaches and parents need to take the lead of organizations like usa hockey who has been on the forefront of this. it's age based at the age of 8,

rundown from paula faris. >> it's okay, george. i didn't know till last week. we're slow to learn these things. the big story this morning, chaos at one of the nation's busiest airports overnight. terrified passengers ran for the exits and spilled onto the tarmac at l.a.x. airport after false reports of an active shooter. now, a man in a zorro costume was taken into custody, and abc's kayna whitworth is right there. kayna. >> reporter: paula, good morning. it was a false alarm. reports of an active shooter at los angeles international airport causing widespread panic and flight delays. hundreds of passengers were evacuated from at least four terminals running for safety through emergency exits and onto the tarmac taking cover under planes. many more stampeding to baggage claim. planes were grounded while authorities searched the airport trying to identify a possible shooter. you can see police had their guns drawn as passengers dropped to the ground. at one point authorities detaining this man in a zorro costume. he was later released. again, now this morning police

say it was all a false alarm and they are investigating to find out where this report initially came from. paula. >> false alarm, still what a scene, kayna, thank you. and in louisiana, police say the unlicensed driver of a charter bus that crashed on sunday killing two people was an undocumented immigrant. he faces criminal charges this morning. the bus was carrying flood relief volunteers. and in politics a new move by donald trump this morning to convince voters that he is the best candidate to create jobs. he's making his biggest ad buy yet, spending $10 million in key states, including ohio and florida, to promote his economic leadership. trump is also promising to outline his immigration plan on wednesday of this week. his campaign says he is softening his approach but is committed to deporting undocumented immigrants. meantime, hillary clinton is turning her attention today to mental health treatment releasing her plan for improving care. and former congressman anthony weiner has deleted his twitter account amid reports of a new sexting scandal.

"the new york post" says weiner sent lewd photos to a woman while his son was lying right in the bed next to him. weiner is married to hillary clinton aide huma abedin. and a health alert this morning about head injuries and teenagers. a new study finding that teen athletes who continue to play despite suffering a concussion, they took twice as long to recover than athletes who were immediately sidelined and suffered from slower mental function. and fans around the world are remembering a music legend this morning. juan gabriel was mexico's top selling artist of all time with a large following on both sides of the border for decades. he died of a sudden heart attack at his california home. juan gabriel was just 66 years old. and finally, on this monday morning for you, people across the internet, they're all weighing in about a video clip that we first showed you yesterday on "gma." we want you to check out the student in the white shirt looking so attentive in this class. he is really digging what the teacher is selling, right? but when the camera gets closer,

but right now, we're going to turn to our series "failure to launch." there's a pew study out this summer that says millennials are moving back home in record numbers and "nightline's" juju chang has a closer look at what's going on and how to handle the conflicts when parents and adult children are living together again. >> reporter: after five years in the fast-paced magazine industry in new york, 29-year-old ramona emerson made a momentous decision. she was heading across the country to move back in with her parents. >> they were so excited when i said that i was going to move home. >> we thought it sounded like a great idea. >> reporter: it's only temporary. she's taking premed classes before she heads off to nursing school in the fall. at first it was idyllic, but a few months in she realized it's a very small house. >> i'm an only child so they are a little bit obsessed with me. >> what guidelines would you give parents if they're going to have an adult child live with them? >> clarify from the start. let them know what you are okay with, what you're not okay with. >> reporter: for example, is there a curfew? what about using the car?

but getting on each other's nerves is par for the course. >> she has issues with practical things. >> when you've been independent and to come back and have people watching your every move, i imagine, silently judging me, that's probably been like the biggest challenge. >> reporter: so to make it all work, dr. pinkus says clarify expectations like chipping in on expenses and cleanliness. she also recommends setting clear household contributions like doing the dishes or cooking and, finally, don't forget to act your age. >> you feel so much better if you try as much as you can to act like an adult and your parents will be very happy about that, as well. >> reporter: and do some soul searching ahead of time. >> if you don't think you like your kid at the stage they're in now, don't do it. >> it's actually been a really, really positive experience and so fun to get to know my parents as adults. i would do it again. well, maybe not again, but i'm glad that i did it.

>> reporter: for "good morning america," juju chang, abc news, new york. >> let's talk about this now with our friend, dr. janet taylor, psychiatrist, family therapist, also happens to be living this out. your daughter, 23, back home. >> back home. definitely living it. >> what does it mean? >> so what it means i used to come home from work and i'd expect her to say, oh, how was your day, mom, but that didn't happen so now i just treat her like a roommate and come in and say, what's up. she's like, what's up. >> is that possible? i saw it in the piece you're supposed to go back home and act like an adult but you know there's something about going back to that house that brings everything back up. >> well, it's not just for the kids. i think as a parent of an adult child, you also have to change what you expect of them. so, don't treat them like a child and expect them to be an adult but it truly is an opportunity to redefine roles, manage expectations, and interact with them in a way that is more adult. you can share things you didn't share and as we grow older, we do grow wiser. there are things that you do as a young parent that now that you're older you can talk to them and do differently. >> so, how do you do that? how do you set the ground ahead of time? >> well, you have to talk

number one, it starts before the scissors ever snip. if the stylist doesn't talk to you about the shape of your face and what's going to work for you in terms of the cut you want, red flag. number two, if you get, you know, almost any stylist can make it look good in the salon but if two days later you can't do anything with it, red flag. and then finally, if you feel like you need a new haircut after four or five weeks, that's -- if you're a woman who has longer hair, that's kind of -- it should last a little longer. >> i always wonder do you give someone a second chance if you have one bad cut? probably not. >> i don't know. the best thing about haircuts it's word of mouth. and you can ask people when you see their haircut, where did you get it cut and try new people if you're not happy. >> also the other good thing is hair grows. >> that's always the do-over, isn't it? do-over. >> becky, thanks so much. again, you look fabulous. >> thank you, my dear. >> let's go outside to ginger. >> we are out here celebrating 100 years of the u.s. marine corps reserve, and we are so

donated over $100,000 to her cause. >> incredible. that's incredible, something you don't always see, a woman working really hard behind the scenes. then beverly bond was a woman that realized that black women didn't have a lot of black role models and decided to do something about it. >> so beverly is the founder of black girls rock. and this is an awards program and also a mentoring program for young women. and you've probably heard of some of the people who have been on her awards program. rihanna. yes, yes, and, you know, she's helping change the conversation. >> yeah, and there's one more very awesome woman on that list, again, it's a very exclusive list, just 25, and she's right over there. her name is amy robach. why did amy make this list? i think we all know. we love amy and she's just -- she's such an inspiration. >> she is an inspiration and, of course, amy, thank you so much. >> thank you. >> your very public fight with breast cancer has really helped all of us -- it sort of pointed a light on how important it is for us to take charge of our own bodies and obviously look at screening, and i will say in two weeks i'm going for a screening. thanks, amy.

tell me about this film. how would you describe it? >> it's a very human story about ordinary people, about good people that maybe sometimes don't make the most, you know, right decision. >> reporter: in the film vikander plays isabelle, a free spirit who falls in love with tom played by vikander's real-life boyfriend, michael fassbender. your character isabelle miscarries several times. >> actually as an actor i felt that was the most intimidating thing i've ever performed because it's so primal. i had wonderful, you know, people who really helped me to try and make those scenes authentic and real. >> reporter: one day the childless couple discover a baby in a rowboat washed up on shore and they make a choice that will have serious consequences. what do you think are the driving forces behind your character's decision which we all admit probably wasn't the right decision at the time. >> it was interesting to play a character like isabelle. it's hard to judge her because everything is initially made from a good place. >> i'm afraid that would be against commonwealth rules.

>> then marry me. >> the chemistry between your character and michael fassbender's character, tom, spilled off camera, yes? i know you all are very private about it but this is where you fell in love on the set. >> that's, of course, between us, but we had met a few times at a film festival, industry parties but we got to know each other during rehearsal. both him and i have done several films where we play a love story so it's very different. >> the ending isn't always the same, right? as for the film, vikander hopes audiences walk away with sympathy for all the characters. >> it's about loss. this is about very universal emotional subjects that i think everyone can relate to. >> it is a beautiful, powerful film.
