>> live where you live. this is abc7 news. >> an east bay road turns into a river gushing water everywhere. public works crews are rushing to fix the broken watermain that flooded nearly a dozen homes. good evening. i'm larry beil in for dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. the 16-inch watermain broke just before 9:00 a.m. creating a huge sinkhole. >> more than 12 hours later here we are crews still on the scene on montana street trying to fix the broken main. abc7 news reporter joining us live from the scene. lonnie? >> reporter: well, larry and ama, we have good news to report. water service has been restored to those folks who live here. you can see there is still quite a met left behind.

crews are expected to be here all night dealing with what neighbors call a reoccurring problem. a rough start to the weekend for families living along montana street. all of this craziness caused by an old cast iron pipe that ruptured. the street looked more like raging rapids. the basement needs to dry out. >> what frustrates me is why don't they fix the whole pipe instead of patch piecing it. >> reporter: martha santiago sits waiting for restored water service. >> this is the fourth time it happened. three times it has gone through my house. >> she said this is the worst. basement belongings are covered in plastic bags and her neighbor remembers the last watermain break. >> up at the top of the hill and now it is the middle of the hill so it is probably the same line. >> his bmw was parked in the water's path. >> the break created a

sinkhole. you can see they reached the pipe and now they have to replace it. >> there is a pipe replacement program. it was slated to be replaced in 2017. they say the mains are breaking faster than they can get to them. >> right now we are at 10 miles a year and we want to be at 40 miles. >> no word on estimated property damage. an expensive problem for utility officials and a messy inconvenience for these families. in oakland, lonnie rivera, abc7 news. >> smartphone users who have the abc7 news app found out about the watermain break this morning right after it happened. we september out a push uh sh ad -- we sent out a push alert. enable the push alerts to get updates on breaking news as soon as it happens.. new at 11:00, a colorado woman inside the domestic terminal is now missing.

trying to figure out the coast to coast internet. several bay area companies were among the on-line victims. >> amazon ebay, google and red it were brought to a stop by the attacks. the first attack came about 4:00 a.m. the ceo of u.s. dine ink ink -- dine, inc said an attack overwhelmed the servers. they used it to translate their web addresses to numerical codes they use to common indicate. no codes mean no website. >> twitter.com or www.twitter.com have no mean together internet. they can't resolve it to an ip address. >> the fist attack was resolved in two hours mostly

affecting the east coast. the second attack hit at 9:00 a.m. that hit the west coast harder and then a third attack came at 1:00 p.m. all were resolved this afternoon. the white house is not ready to point blame. >> i have no information on who may be responsible for the malicious activity. >> experts believe it could be anyone. >> there are various organized criminal elements in various countries. >> renouned security expert bruce shiner said it could be increasingly problematic. he wrote on his blog many of the uhing tays are testing servers rather than taking them off line which means someone is likely learning how to cause widespread disruption. >> well, the outage frustrated millions of people. jimmy kimmle made light of it. no offense to twitter, but taking down netflix on a

friday night is an act of war. in southern california a massive fire is expected to continue burning for another 24 hours. it started this afternoon at a cardboard recycling plant in ontario and the cardboard is fueling the flames. they keep heat inside making them water resistant. freight service has been stopped in the area to avoid damage to railcars. a commute alert. commuters will notice a big difference. there was a ribbon cutting for on and off-ramps from westbound interstate 80. the ramps have now moved from the left side of the freeway to the right side and those ramps open tomorrow. there is said to be a safer design and 8,000 new homes were planned on treasure island. >> the weekend is upon us. it is time to check on the weather. >> here is sandhya patel. >> it is that time of year when you have to start thinking about monday.

moon bay. below average temperatures this weekend with several rain chances coming up. here is a look at your activity planner. if you are doing gardening it will be mild sunshine and good weather for that and good weather for sailing on the bay and just right if you are hiking. it is not too hot and not too cold. tomorrow morning we will bring in the high clouds again. upper 40s to the mid50s. if you are an early riser going out for a run the weather should be nice. filtered sunshine especially in the north bay and parts of san francisco in the east bay. we are looking at 60s and 70s. mild again tomorrow, but cooler than today. we had 70s and 80s across a good part of the bay area. tomorrow night there is an important event. they are a proud sponsor of light the night walk. if you are taking part in the walk at 7:00 dropping down to 60 it will be quite mild. our very own morning traffic reporter will be emceeing the event. we have the niners against the buccaneers. 68 degrees if you are going to

the game at levi stadium. nice looking weather, 71 degrees by 4:00 p.m. we are tracking the potential for showers. monday morning at 7:00 a.m., ukiah getting wet. the rain line shifts by 3:00 p.m. still in the north bay. by 9:00 p.m. monday night it moves to the east bay and south bay and going to tuesday morning. scattered showers will continue. in terms of rainfall totals it will be anywhere from just over an inch in the north bay to nothing in the south bay. so quite a variation. the bottom line is the pattern is changing. accu-weather seven-day forecast, low 60s to the mid70s for the upcoming weekend. clouds will be on the increase. and then we bring in the potential for unsettled weather on monday, tuesday and again on thursday evening into friday. larry and ama?
