city neighborhood. police say her husband and his brother came home and found her dead in the garage. >> the suspect became angry and armed himself with a hammer. sassoon city police chief said when the 29-year-old was found her in-laws and 2-year-old son were inside the house. according to investigators, the father-in-law confessed. >> he was very calm and stoic. it was interesting seeing his demeanor. >> according to police, singh said his daughter-in-law disrespected him and at the pushing over of a bike in the garage may have been the last straw. >> the bike was pushed over or thrown down or something happened to the bike. words were exchanged which the suspect felt disrespected through that exchange. >> singh worships at the temple in fairfield where a committee

member told abc 7 news he's known as friendly, regularly attends wednesday and sunday prayers. today at the family home friends stopped by to pay respects. >> how is everyone doing? >> just sad. my cousin came here. so i don't know. >> what would you like people to know about her? >> she was a very nice woman. >> reporter: as we speak, he sits in the solano county jail without bail. he's expected to be by the weekend. >> did the suspect confess right away? >> no. according to the chief, he was calm in his demeanor. he was in the house according to the police when his two sons arrived home, they found this woman dead in the garage. the suspect was in the living room of the home with his wife

third degree burns to 90% of her body and doctors had to amputate her legs. >> the cessna took off in bad weather. one other woman survived the crash. the ntsb is investigating that accident. a plane carrying the university of men's basketball team slid off a runway during an aborted takeoff. this happening 15 minutes from their campus in ann arbor. a spokesperson said the plane sustained extensive damage. they slammed on the brakes. the team was on the way to washington, d.c. for the big ten basketball tournament on thursday. they evacuated the plane and made other travel arrangements. in west marin, the sun was shining brightly but storm-related problems continue. a new slide along sir francis drake boulevard along the area of fairfax. wayne friedman has been watching the causes and effects.

sky. looking at alcatraz. it's 71 in santa rosa. upper 60s a napa. fairfield and con koor and livermore. let's go through the evening hours and the temperature trend and the sky trend as well. mainly clear but patchy fog will form not only along the coast but inland locations and overnight. temperatures won't drop too much. mild with low temperatures dropping into the upper 40s to around 50. what's tomorrow going to look like? i'll show you in a few minutes. larry and ama. san francisco police are looking for two men who robbed a woman and her 1-year-old daughter at gunpoint. this video shows the suspects walking into the parking garage of an apartment complex in the mission last friday night. they say one man pulled a gun on the woman and demanded her car. the other pulled the child out of her car seat. the suspects then grabbed the woman's backpack and took off. another look at the two. anybody who recognizes these two is asked to call san francisco police. we have new details from

berkeley police who are asking for the public's help to track down the people behind the violence at saturday's pro-president trump rally. police released these pictures of six people involved in fights at civic center park. people came to the rally armed with sticks, bats and other weapons. ten arrests were made. police are working with the alameda district's attorney office to prosecute anyone who committed assaults. they're working to -- today city attorney dennis herrera asked a federal judge to halt the enforcement nationwide the president's order. by ignoring the separation of powers. the president's executive action threat ents ens to withhold funds that attempts to shield undocumented immigrants accused of a crime from deportation. after a gas line break. sky 7 shows the scene above pettigrew court. workers were digging in the area and severed the line around

10:00 this morning. crews gave the all clear. they were allowed to return back to their homes. raising gas taxes to fix california's dilapidated roads. now being considered by the state senate. the bill would raise $6 billion by increasing the gas tax by up to $.12 a gallon over three years. the vehicle registration fee would go up by an average of $38. owners of emission vehicles would pay an annual $100 fee. the legislation went before the governance and finance committee and heads to the state legislature in two weeks. the annual warning about daylight saving time. moving their clocks ahead by one hour. the chp is warning the public about the risks of drowsy driving which increase with the loss of an hour's sleep. preliminary information from last year shows 33 people died and more than 3800 were hurt in collisions caused by fatigued or

women all around the world went on strike today for international women's day. this is called a day without women. the same team that organized the women's march on washington in january encouraged women to stay home. >> from kosovo to new york, to right here in the bay area, people did. abc 7 news reporter lonnie rivera is in san jose where hundreds turned out for the rally. lonnie? >> reporter: yes, ama. it was a message of unity, love and support for all women in downtown san jose. but the speakers called for those protesters to take this even beyond the rally holding those in power accountable. for some it's a day off from work to stand up for women's rights.

readings from mid to upper 60s to 71 up north at santa rosa. it's cooling down on the coast. only 57 at half moon bay. overnight, we'll see fog developing not only along the coast but patches of fog inlabor day out over the bay and as well reaching in from the central valley. lows overnight will be mainly in the upper 40s. here's basically what's happening with the current weather pattern. high pressure to the southeast. the clockwise circulation around that high is bringing warm or mild air up from the south and that southerly flow is bringing us this nice spring-like weather for the next several days. notice the storm track remains well to the north. in the bay area the next several days, we can expect widespread temperatures in the 60s and 70s. this is going to be love live heading into spring which starts next week. we'll see a few low clouds on the beaches. it's going to be mild, most beach locations highs in the

buying milk is tougher than buying alcohol in one san francisco neighborhood. abc 7 news was in the tenderloin as the department of public health released a survey of retail stores and found that alcohol and flavored cigarettes were more accessible than milk or produce. the market on turk street tried to sell produce in the past without success. the owner says this time the city gave him marketing advice that got sales going. >> they did signage and they did monthly flyers.

they wept to events that they had food tasting. >> nine markets are taking part in the healthy retail program. they display a fresh food here label in the front. tom brady wants you to eat like a super bowl winning quarterback. the san mateo native and notoriously finicky eater is endorsing a line of plant-based meals. it has pre-portioned meals which are gluten-free and high in protein. there's no dairy or eggs, seafood meat or processed foods. for $78 a week, subscribers get six dinners a week. the meals will begin shipping on april 3rd. if you wonder how dedicated tom brady is to his meals and his workouts, he has a calendar three years out. he knows exactly what he is going to be doing that day in terms of his workouts as well as meal prep. so what's today, march 8th. he could tell you march 8th, 2020, here's what i'm eating.

he's got it mapped out. it's a little compulsive but works. one of the most iconic cars in san francisco history has turned up in a mexican junkyard after going missing nearly 50 years. oh, yeah. that is steve mcqueen's 1968 mustang. the classic movie "bullet." it was part of the iconic car chase. two identical cars were used make the movie. a private collector owns one of them but the other was missing until somebody discovered it at a junkyard in baja, california. a ford expert confirmed that's the car. it's authentic. took a while to renovate. look at the finished >> nice. a mariachi band recently greeted the car at a ford dealership in mexico. the new owners of the car are no longer showing it to anybody because they're planning to make a documentary about restoring it. the 50th anniversary of "bullet" is next year.

here are the stories making headlines. there is stcelebration and protests on this international women's day. people are gathering all over. participants were encouraged to wear red. one of the actions taking place at san francisco city hall. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez tweeted out a picture. she'll have a live report. in texas, a senate committee voted in favor of a bill requiring people to use

bathrooms corresponding with the sex on their birth certificate. this despite 16 straight hours of -- that bill goes to the full state senate. now to capitol hill and the battle over the proposed new health care bill. republican leaders hope to get it through the house by april. there are strong objections. janae norman flilive in washing. millions could lose the coverage they have. >> right, president trump is embracing the bill. calling it a great program. that new health care plan comes with a new revolt by some conservatives. the uphill battle on capitol hill over health care. >> a lot of folks have a health insurance card but they don't have any care. >> republicans now facing a fight against democrats and a cohort in their own party. >> i think it's dead on arrival. i don't think conservatives will vote for it. >> conservative leaders refusing to sign on to what they say

contractor. they show the team of hackers developed malware to be able to remotely hack into iphones and android devices and smart tvs. james comey talked about the lack of privacy in america today. >> there is no such thing as absolute privacy in america. there is no place in america outside of judicialial >> comey did not address the wikileaks attraction. they're largely genuine but not clear if any were altered. a marine whose image was posted without her consent is disgusted and disheartend by the scandal. she learned last august that a nude picture of her was posted on the page. she notified military investigators and google about the existence of the network in january. she and other victims will not be silenced. >> victim and blaming and the

before. >> a beloved 5-year-old white rhinonamed vince shot to death. poachers cut off his horn. they were undetected by staff members inside the facility equipped with surveillance cameras. the poachers escaped leaving two other rhinos unharmed and without vince's second horn. it appears their tools failed or they were interrupted. the demand for rhino horns from asia, it's falsely believed to have medicinal. it can be wofrt thousands of dollars. in reality, rhino horns are nothing more than bone covered in a protein called kerr continue. >> it's a myth to kill a majestic animal for a myth is horrific. >> every year hundreds of rhinos are poached. as the man hunt continues in france, zoos are on high alert.

kenneth moten, abc news, new york. the death toll expected to rise following a fire inside a troubled orphanage in guatemala. police officers blocked those from get to go the shelter. it was criticized for overcrowding and alleged abuse. they've recovered bodies and another two dozen found. major wildfires across several states and the great plains will not be getting much help today. conditions are improving slightly. but gusting winds and low humidity are still in the forecast. the fires burning in colorado, texas, oklahoma and kansas have claimed at least five lives, burned thousands of acres and forced thousands to flee their homes. a woman in oklahoma died of a heart attack trying to save her farm. >> the rain may have eased for now. but the danger isn't over for homeowners. >> i have never ever thought this would happen we would never have moved here. >> what's being done to save homes as the earth erodes.

homeowners in pleasanton are anxiously watching when backyards disappear. significant erosion from series of storms. amy hollyfield has a look at the effort to save those homes. >> there used to be 13 trees here including three red woods and at least 30 feet of land. it's all fallen into the arroyo delouisiana gun a creek. she's worried her pool and home could be next to go. >> we don't know what to do from minute to minute. one second, we need to pack everything. >> the hillside started ee roding two weeks ago from all the rain we've had. three homes are affected. the residents say the sounds it makes are terrifying. >> it shakes the house. it's not something you want to hear. we can't sleep at night. >> it's emotional. like i said, lot of great

san jose is making a promise to make college more affordable to all, even free for some. matt keller has the details. >> michael pa rallies took a

winding path to san jose city college. he graduated five years ago and figured out college was a step he couldn't skip to reach his career goals. >> it's either you go to school or there's no other way about it. my goal basically is to make it as a dietitian. >> san jose and community college leaders are hoping to help more students like michael reach their goals. today, they're officially launching san jose promise with a plan of providing two years of free community college for about 800 low-income students next school year and increasing outreach to middle and high school students to prepare them for higher education. much of it is a major expansion of programs already in place. >> i got financial aid and made it super easy. like 600 bucks to be full-time. the financial aid chopped it down to 30 bucks. >> the state will provide most of the funding. west valley and san jose city college. the goal of bringing in more

resources and donations. >> considering the living expenses here, it's really difficult to come to school at the same time and pay your bills and have a place to live. if they offer more money and help people to get educated, it's going to be an investment for of country. they can start applying for the grants in june. in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. last month, san francisco city college announced it will be the first school in the nation offering free tuition to city residents. that will start this fall. jobs website glass door of marin county is out with the list of 25 highest paid jobs for 2017. it shows tech and health care are big this year. here are the top five jobs. physician at $187,000. pharmacy manager, $149,000. patent attorney, $139,000. medical science liaison.

11:00. our recents rain saturated the mountains and landslides and flooding have been common and a lot of people needed help. on tuesday it wasn't a person in need of rescuing, it was a horse. abc 7 news reporter, indicates i march xu low with the details from santa cruise county. these photos paint a scary picture. a horse laid out on her side stuck in quicksand. she's laying in water. holding her head up with the bridle i guess. the horse is exhausted. battalion chief got the call around 2:30 in the afternoon looking at a dangerous situation. >> you don't know what an animal is thinking when you're trying to help them. >> they're looking for a way out. you can get a hoof in the stomach. he quickly came up with a plan. >> you notice the water is draining towards the horse. we diverted the water flow from
