the fbi credits its collaboration with social media to stop another school shooting. leslie brinkley has the latest on that online threat. >> reporter: a threat to shoot of valley view middle school on the last day. >> there was a conversation between two juveniles that conversation was reported to snap chat. snap chat was concerned about the content of that conversation so they alerted the fbi. >> reporter: based on the ip address, the fbi alerted concord police, the school was valley

view middle school in pleasant hill. the 13-year-old was arrested at his home in martinez. numerous guns were confiscated. he made the mention that he wasn't serious about the threats but obviously in this day and age you can't take those kinds of threats likely. >> reporter: the fbi framed it this way, this could have been the next school shooting incident but it wasn't because of the working relationships between social media platforms and tech companies and the fbi. a few directed at them. >> it is not a joke doing that. i got scared for my grandchildren and i don't know. i'm not -- i'm really, really speechless. >> reporter: police scoured classrooms and lockers with k-9 teams and turned up nothing.
