saa. it's saturday, august 4th and i'm chris nguyen. frances dinglasan is in for lisa argen. >> we started off with mostly clear skies and we're starting to see the clouds move in from the coast as you can see from live doppler 7 and the satellite image and here's what you can say from your 12-hour day planner which you can always download by searching the accuweather app. mostly sunny with temperatures in the 50s and 60s over the next couple of hours and by this afternoon, hazy sunshine over parts of the north bay due to fires. inland areas will climb into the mid-90s and the sea breeze

keeping things cool and low 60s there. we'll have a slight cooldown in store for us tomorrow and a warm-up next week. i'll have the details coming up. thanks. frances, thanks. crews battling the wildfires across northern california are bracing for hot and windy weather this weekend. near the mendocino complex fire's new mandatory evacuations were ordered yesterday. parts of potter valley, clear lake oaks and the recreation area are included. earlier some evacuation orders were lifted for the lake port area. students in lake port were supposed to go back to school next week, but administrators have delayed the start for two weeks. both fires have expanded overnight. the ranch fire has burned more than 156,000 acres and is 27% contained. the river fire has charred nearly 45,000 acres and is 50% contained. firefighters hope to have them both contained in about a week and a half. today governor brown will be in shasta county touring the area charred by the carr fire. it has grown to more than

141,000 acres and is 41% contained. flames have destroyed more than 1,000 homes and nearly two dozen businesses since it started last month. residents in the river ridge neighborhood in redding were allowed back in last night. many of the homes there are now gone. the fight has been incredibly tough for redding firefighters. some of their homes were destroyed and the department have lost one of their own. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo explains what local firefighters are doing to help. >> reporter: a combination of heartbreak and unparalleled heroism as firefighters continue battling what is now being described as the sixth most destructive fire in california history. the carr fire has burned more than 1500 structures including the homes of redding firefighters. among the six people killed, redding fire inspector jeremy stoke. >> my understanding that he was doing that night is he was simply assisting in evacuations. a hometown hero on the fire lines like so many others.

the fire isn't cutting them a break either. many are taking more barely taking more than a moment to breathe after losing a brother and their home. >> they're still on the line, trying to defend those neighborhoods and trying to save other, their friend, families and neighbors. >> their pain is being felt across the country including here in the bay area. former redding firefighter gabriel redding worked alongside stoke before joining alameda county fire. >> i was able to work with him and you can rely on that guy on just about anything you need. >> the alameda firefighters association created this go fund me page to offer some relief to those who lost their homes and to the family who lost their hero. might not make a big dent in what's to come, but even if it helps them with groceries that's all i can ask. if you want to help out the men and women of the redding fire department visit abc 7 news.com and click on this story for the go fund me page link. for now i'm in san jose, amanda

del castillo, abc 7 news. a final good-bye today for a firefighter killed while battling the ferguson fire. loved ones will gather in fresno for a memorial service honoring captain brian hughes. hughes was a member of the arrowhead interagency hotshot crew. he died when a tree fell on top of him last week as he fought to protect homes. the ferguson fire is burning deeper into yosemite national park this morning. flames jumped highway 41 yesterday and there are spot fires near el portal and warona. yosemite valley has been evacuated and not because of the wildfire itself. >> we have engines and firefighters walking along the roads and working along roadways and it's important for the safety of all of those employees. >> the ferguson fire has now scorched more than 80,000 acres. it's just 36% contained. all, but one park entrance is closed right now and many of the landmarks at yosemite are closed through the weekend because of

the smoke. abc 7 news is staying on top of the wildfire and visit abc 7.com for updates and download the abc 7 news app to get alerts directly to your phone. palo alto police are investigating the shooting near the safeway in midtown last night. no one was hurt, but the shooter was able to escape. officers spotted the car and chased it to highway 101, but lost track of the driver. it's not clear yet what led up to the shooting. the macarthur bart station in oakland is back open this morning and official his to close it last night following another stabbing. it happened at the same station where nia wilson was stabbed to death last month. abc 7 news reporter cornell barnard has the latest. >> everything is open. >> the macarthur bart station was closed as police investigated a fight and double stabbing. >> it was very scary especially after something that just happened recently. >> zanita saw one man who had been slashed. >> the one that got slashed on o

his face, like an inch. it looked like six and they were just holding his face while he was bleeding. >> bart officials say a fight broke out between two men on a richmond-bound train. one witness said it was violent. >> two people just punching each other. it was just super, super aggressive and enough to make someone bleed and their blood staining the chairs. >> one man suffered a knife wound to his arm and the other to his face. the incident happened just an hour after a vigil for nia wilson. she was fatally stabbed in the station last month. >> it was not god's plan for nia to die on that platform. >> a small group gathered to honor the 18-year-old who died in the unprovoked attack. her sister was also stabbed, but survived. 27-year-old suspect john cowell is charged with her murder. so far police have no motive, but many believe it was racially motivated. >> i don't think anything like this is ever random.

money on mega millions ever since kiwol sold the $543 million winning ticket ten days ago. he's been anxious to find out who the lucky person is. we broke the news to him and it was 11 office workers who chipped in two bucks each into a pool. >> it is so good because it will take care of 11 familie plus their friends and everybody. so that is great news. very, very, i'm very happy for them. >> the california lottery released the name of only one winner, roland reyes of san jose. that's a common name in the south bay. we knocked on a lot of doors. the closest person with that name lives just two miles from murray's liquors and that dove tails with what lottery officials told us. >> he wanted to go with us and he stopped by murray's liquor next door and that's the one he chose and it turned out to be a great choice for him. >> roland

process. owens was selected in his third year of eligibility instead of going in on his first ballot. owens will host his first ceremony in chattanooga. longtime nfl executive, bobby biff ord will be in canton to join the nfl's most exclusive club. he is the grandfather of c.j.beathored. he made it mandatory to attend the enshrinement and not be at camp this weekend. he intends to fly back home in time for practice although shanahan expects him to miss it. tonight, international soccer returns to santa clara. ac milan will face fc barcelona in the 2018 international champions cup. it's the fourth straight year that the exhibition match will take place in the stadium and fc barcelona played in the event in 2014 and ac milan played in 2016.

kickoff is at 5 dl:00 p.m. expect a lot of traffic in the area before and after the game. you can expect a lot of sunshine, as well, for that game, but right now we're seeing some clouds still in from the coast with live doppler 7 and the satellite image and we started off with clear conditions and coastal clouds started to creep in there along the peninsula coast as well. also, there's still a red flag warning in effect for northern parts of the state and this is, of course, due near the car fires and the mendocino fires. we have hot and dry conditions and also gusty winds. ridge gusts in this area, 25 to 35 miles per hour and the sierra ridge gusts can reach up to 65 miles per hour and as temperature climbs, humidity drops and even though the red flag warning expires at 11:00. in the redding area they'll deal with hot and dry conditions all week long. temperatures will be climbing to 108 degrees possibly mid-week for redding and that's not great news. i want to show you the visible satellite image for yesterday and we'll see a similar wind

pattern today. once again, the smoke will be spreading as winds come from the northwest and they'll start to spread east and south. so look for poor air quality through those areas as well as through parts of the central valley due to the ferguson fire. smoke levels are at a very hazardous level and you may want to cancel plans if you want to head through yosemite or parts of the central valley. here is a live shot and we see the low clouds creeping in there from the coast. san francisco is currently 58. oakland, 62 and san jose warm at 72 degrees. you see some of those hazy skies and we'll see hazy conditions through parts of the north bay, as well, due to the fires and novato, we're starting to climb into the low 60s and back to 71 degrees and through concord and livermore. from emoriville, we see calm waters and the winds will pick up this afternoon and this evening and tomorrow night.

for today you can expect mild to very warm temperatures and slightly cooler tomorrow and a warming trend starts on monday and we'll see triple digit heat inland midweeko the warmest days. here's the satellite image over the past 12 hours and you see this area of low pressure and this will start to drop south. as it mari layer and increases the onshore flow and that's why temperatures will be cooler and a little bit cooler again tomorrow. so highs today will range from 60s at the coast to low 90s inland. so san francisco, breezy and 68 today and oakland, 75. santa rosa and napa in the 80s with hazy skies and comfortable and mild in san jose with 84 degrees and there's the adobo festival today in milpitas, sunny all of the way through. 74 degrees at 11:00 climbing to 80 and dropping to only 71 at 7:00 p.m. and it will be

it will be very warm inland in the low to mid 90s and we're dealing with clouds pulling in from the coast and the satellite image and we woke up to very clears earlier and here's the 12-hour day planner by searching the accuweather app. mostly sunny in the next couple of hours and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. through parts of the north bay and some of the inland east bay areas due to fire and smoke from the fires and then by this afternoon we'll see temperatures that are mild to very warm inland areas hitting the mid-90s around the bay and low 80s and at the coast low 60s with the onshore sea breeze. tonight sun sets at 8:15. we have slightly cooler conditions on tap for tomorrow and then a big warm-up. details coming up. chris? >> frances, thanks. >> new overnight, a deadly helicopter crash in siberia. went down shortly after takeoff. this is vid weo showing the aftermath. at airline says it appears

meet on the national march for nra. the headquarters in fairfax, 17 students and staff members were killed when former student nikolas cruz opened fire february. you can now visit per than a dozen bay area dmv offices on saturday. these expanded hours start today and it's all in an effort to deuce the long lines. the wait times are partly due to the upcoming real i.d. requirements. by 2020 you'll need to have a new california i.d. or driver's license to get through airport security. the application has to be done in person and making an appointment is highly recommended. you can visit abc 7 news.com for a complete list of offices now open on saturdays. happening today in san mateo, the samaritan house will distribute per than 1,000 new backpacks filled with school supplies to low income students. families registered their kids ahead of time. the backpacks, shoes and supplies are all donated by local companies and organizations. the event starts at 10:00 a.m.

roku is signing a huge lease and relocating headquarters to san jose. abc 7 news went to coleman avenue where the player maker is leasing half a million square feet. the complex is right next to the stadium near the airport. it is currently based in los gatos and has 2300 employees. no word yet on when the company will make the move. cats will invade san francisco's dolores park. this is video from a previous ps event for caterday. your cat needs to be on a leash and organizers suggest bringing a carrier just in case. the event runs from 1:30 to 4:30

this morning. a red flag warning still in for 11:00, and they covered karr fire and in this area, ridge gusts can reach up to 35 miles per hour and in the sierra the ridge gusts can get up to 65 miles per hour and relative humidity will go to 12% in the afternoon. so it will be hot, dry and gusty today through some of these areas and here's a live shot of the golden gate bridge. it was clear earlier this morning. we saw the marine layer make a little bit of a comeback and pushing through right now, but it's very shallow. the depth is around 300 feet and in the summertime we can see a depth of about 1,000 feet and you know you'll get sunshine later in the afternoon. oakland, 62 degrees right now and san jose warmer at 72 dogs and half moon bay, cloudy and cool, 5 55 for you right now. we are seeing haze in the sky. we will see some hazy conditions

of the warmest spots. oakland, 75 degrees and san jose, plenty of sunshine, warm, 84 degrees. in parts of the north bay we'll see hazy skies as well. some upper 80s through santa rosa, and napa, 85 degrees and also lots of events going on and plenty of sunshine and already 72 degrees in the next couple of hours climbing to 80. grab a jabbet if you're headed to the a's game because it will cool down from 68 degrees when the game starts to 60 degrees by the time the fireworks starts at 9:00. overnight lows will be in the 50s as the marine layer strengthens and develops into tomorrow. we'll also see some cooling as well. here's the temperature trend for livermore. so a little bit cooler tomorrow and then things start to turn around on monday and there's the triple digit heat midweek.

until he heard from the listing company. >> i saw that they wanted transfer in cash. >> the listing agent required him to wire the $3400 payment to a bank in greece. >> i'm aware of wire fraud so that's when i kind of got a little bit concerned. >> he called travelocity. was this listing legit? >> they said yes. that's the procedure. you can go ahead and send the money. >> so rolando wired the money and e-mailed the listing agent. they would keep on stalling and stalling and them his e-mails started bouncing back. the company disappeared and so did rolando's $3400. >> oh, my god. he canceled the booking and travelocity refunded his $500 deposit, but not the rest of the money. >> rest assured we're working on it. >> travelocity promised to contact the listing agent. >> we never reached them so we were never able to confirm that you paid. he had trusted travelocity's advice to send the money and it was a scam. >> if it's on your websi respon.

what they said was it's out of our hands. we don't have your money. he contacted 7 on your side and we contacted travelcity and the company does scrutinize listings for possible fraud and as for reassuring rolando it was safe to wire money, travelocity said it is possible that there might have been a miscommunication and we do apologize for any misunderstanding. travelocity also refunded all of his money. >> after ten weeks of frustration and all i needed to do was call 7 on your side. travelocity uses manual and electronic means to detect fraudulent listings which it says are extremely rare and it will notify and help any customer who may get caught up in a scam. my advice, never wire money to anyone you don't know. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. >> time is 8:53. goats invade a neighborhood. what they were doing after they got loose.
