((mauricio marin)) after a man was shot dead last night, we tied a record in las vegas for the most homicides in a year. police believe last nights shooting was drug related after a man was found dead near bonanza and maryland parkway.

((denise valdez)) a robbery suspect surrendered after holding 11 people hostage inside a jacksonvl today. police say the suspect held those hostages inside while requesting family members come to the scene. he released a couple of the hostages during negotiations but continued to threaten the rest. swat team members forced their way inside the bank after two hostages distracted the gunman. ((la'tarsha shuman mother of hostage i'm safe. relieved. i feel relieved. we are very relieved. i was (praying) the whole time. he's safe and i'm happy. i just want to see him. not much going through my mind, i'm just thanking god that he's ok.

devastating tennessee wildfires. the death toll rose to seven yesterday, after the discovery of three more bodies in the ruins. california... the last of several inmates who escaped from the santa clara county jail is now back in police custody. swat team members located and arrested rogelio chavez without incident wednesday evening. during an interview at the jailhouse the santa clara county sheriff explained how the arrest was made.. (nick lam-wagoner/ car enthusiast) "it's usually by referral and even then when i meet them i gotta see if i like their vibe, we chat a little bit, kind of feel them out and make sure there's not, y'know, something shady going on." for many drivers, finding a trusted mechanic is tricky. a new survey by triple a found two out of three drivers don't trust auto repair shops in general. among those surveyed... 76 percent believe repair shops recommend unnecessary services and 73 mechanics overcharge for work. many drivers also worry the work won't be done correctly. (jeffrey spring/ aaa spokesperson) "but on the other hand, the survey also found that a majority of the drivers had found a trusted mechanic so even though in general they don't trust repair services or shops, they did find a trusted mechanic." ((paul joncich)) the oldest known survivor of the attack on pearl harbor will return to hawaii this weekend to commemorate its 75th anniversary, thanks to a fundraising effort by his community. at 104 years old, this may be his last trip back. cbs news correspondent danielle nottingham reports from san diego, ca. as the first bombs fell on the uss arizona in pearl harbor, then seaman first class ray chavez had just finished a shift sweeping for n rushed over to help. (ray chavez, pearl harbor survivor) "all the harbor was on fire, all the ships were smoking black smoke because the japanese had torpedoed and bombed" more than 2400 americans died that day. at 104 years old, chavez is known as the oldest living survivor of the attack. the veteran didn't talk about what he witnessed until 50 years later. (ray chavez, pearl harbor survivor)) "i saw all the men that were lost and all the ships that were sunk

here to take out pause) it didn't take me right away it was the next day that it really hit me and i realized what had happened" (danielle nottingham, cbs news, san diego) "today, chavez has not lost his fighting spirit. three years ago, at 101 years old, he decided to come to this gym" chavez weighed just 93 pounds and after six months of working out with his trainer sean thompson, he gained 20 pounds of muscle. (ray chavez, pearl harbor survivor) "he stretches me and pulls me and turns me around and oh my gosh it's great" chavez's determination inspired the gym and local rotary club to raise 13-thousand dollars thompson to hawaii to attend the pearl harbor 75th anniversary cermonies on wednesday. (sean thompson, chavez's trainer) "he's a dying breed of really selfless bravery and patriotism that you don't see anymore" (ray chavez, pearl harbor survivor) "i'm very proud to serve and help and quite a few people tell me that i inspire them because of my age and being able to do these exercises and other things" chavez knows this may be his last trip back and he only has one request. to go to a luau. danielle nottingham,
