we've got a tweet to report from the president of the united states, a white sox fan, we should point out. he says, it happens, the cubs win the world series, the change a south side with believe in. a standing invitation for the cubs. matt, savannah, back to you. >> ron mott in the thick of it. thank you. >> you know who was up watching the game? bob costas was watching the game. he joins us now. bob, see if you agree with this. even without all the history, all the baggage, the drought, the frustration for these two baseball cities, i think this is one of the greatest world series games i've ever seen. >> yeah, it's one of the great game sevens, as you said, matt, even if you take away all the back story. one of the great game sevens, the back and forth. it had heroics. it had misplays. it had strategy that was brilliant, strategy that could be questioned. it went right down to the last pitch of the game. it had everything, even if it didn't involve two franchises with such star-crossed histories.

>> is there a moment, bob -- i mean, if you're a ubcubs fan and 50 years from now you're telling your grandkids about that game seven, was there one moment that crystallized it all? >> well, they blew a lead, a sizable lead, and then everybody across cub nation was saying, oh, my gosh, here we go again. but cleveland has its own experience with that. you had two teams with not exactly parallel histories but overlapping histories. so i think there was some anxiety involved, but i guess if you had to pick out one thing, it would be the zobrist hit after the rain delay that gave them the lead in the top of the tenth. although, the indians battled back and pulled to within one and had a man on when it finally ended. >> as if hollywood needed more to make a great movie. talk about that rain delay. the skies opened up. here comes the tarp. the cubs players go in and have a players' only meeting. i'm trying to imagine who the actors are going to be when i watch that on the big screen.

>> well, apparently jason heyward heyward, a great fielder who has struggled at the plate most of the season, apparently led that brief meeting. and the indians had a little bit of mojo going because rajai davis had hit the home run to tie the game in the eighth inning. so if there was any momentum, it seemed to belong to cleveland, and some people will theorize that the rain delay kind of reset things and gave the cubs a chance to get their bearings again and came back out and got two runs in the top half of the tenth inning. >> you talk about strategy, and i think you may be referring to one of those strategic calls when joe maddon takes out hendricks in the fifth, who's in the middle of pitching a gem, brings in let'sster. then that pitch hits david ross in the mask and cleveland scores two runs. had the cubs not won that game, bob, how much second guessing of that call would there have been? >> joe maddon is one of the great modern managers, but the way he used his pitching staff, chapman and the quick hooks for

arrieta and hendricks in game six and seven, would have opened him up to legitimate second guessing plus all the noise and nonsense on talk radio and social media, had the cubs lost. but since they won, it's all forgotten and everybody loves maddon, as they should. >> he's doing a double exhale this morning. >> what's it mean to the city of chicago, bob? >> well, it means more than can possibly be expressed, as it would have meant to cleveland because they had waited since 1948 and hadn't won a title in any sport since 1964. after all, in chicago the blackhawks had won, the bears had won, michael jordan's bulls won six times. cleveland had been without one in any sport since '64 until the cavs won in the spring. then they were looking to double down in the fall. so it would have meant a lot there. but when it comes to just baseball in chicago, eastboundven though the white sox won in 2005, the cubs are the team, the identity of chicago baseball. to go from 1908 to 2016 -- and i

think it's very important that wrigley field was built in 1914. it wasn't called wrigley field until a bit later. but wrigley field is the place where all this played out. just like fenway park still exists, so all the ghosts were there when they finally broke through in 2004, all the ghosts, all the history, all of it resides at wrigley field. had they moved to a new ballpark in the interim, even had it been 108 years, i don't think it would have quite the texture and the drama. wrigley field still stands. people gathered at wrigley field even when the game was being played in cleveland to experience it communely. >> we wanted a good world series. we got a great one. bob costas, appreciate it. we'll have more on the cubs' first title in 108 years, including al's big night at the ballpark in just a little while. >> lucky guy. we are jealous. all right. now let's get to politics. five days to go. during a rally in florida, donald trump urged himself to avoid getting sidetracked in the campaign's final days, telling

north carolina, this morning. >> reporter: good morning. hillary clinton in battleground north carolina today campaigning later today with bernie sanders in this park in a state that was leaning democratic but nbc is now calling a toss-up. she is in the closing days crisscrossing the country, trying to shore up support in the face of tightening polls. hillary clinton witnessing her hometown cubs win the world series, spending 45 minutes backstage after her campaign rally in arizona watching the game on an ipad with aides, afterwards rejoicing and holding up the cubs' victory flag, later tweeting, they did it, 108 years later and the drought is finally over. way to make history, cubs. the celebration coming after clinton drew one of her biggest crowds at that arizona rally. her first stop there this campaign. >> hello, arizona! >> reporter: it's a long shot for her, trying to become the first democrat to win the state since bill clinton 20 years ago.

>> so for the first time, we have a real chance to turn this state blue again. >> reporter: with polls in arizona showing her locked in a tight race with donald trump, clinton is targeting the state's growing bloc of latino voters. >> about half the people he wants to deport, they've paid more in federal taxes than donald trump has paid! >> reporter: earlier in nevada, snapchatting a theat a hair braiding salon and trying to fire up her volunteers. >> if we turn out our voters, you know what happens? we win! >> reporter: clinton rallying las vegas supporters with a new closing argument. imagining donald trump in the oval office. >> our girls would grow up with a president who proudly ranks women by their looks, who brags about doing things to them without their consent. >> reporter: with her own high unfavorable ratings a big challenge, clinton clearly worried some voters will just stay home. >> i think some people are saying, well, maybe i'll just

sit this one out. you know, i can't really make up my mind. i don't know who's really going to help me and my family. >> reporter: so she's leaning heavily on a network of democrats, in addition to bernie sanders today, her husband bill clinton, running mate tim kaine, and vice president joe biden all fanning out across the country. and her star surrogate, president obama, set to rally democrats in florida today. clinton now trying to avoid talking about her recent e-mail controversy, but for the first time, president obama taking a swipe at his fbi director james comey. >> there is a norm that, you know, when there are investigations, you don't operate on innuendo. we don't operate on incomplete information. we don't operate on leaks. we operate based on concrete decisions that are made. >> reporter: and a challenge for democrats here in north carolina this year is that african-american vote is below

our temperatures around the bay area 40s and 50s from the south bay to the tri-valley. north bay, 46 degrees, a little patchy fog into sonoma county. mid 70s in san jose close to 70 in san francisco. low 70s in oakland. a similar day tomorrow with increasing high clouds late today into friday. the weekend will include a chance of seeing a few showers. late saturday in the north bay. all areas saturday night, light rain clearing by mid morning sunday. a much better situation on the maps than 45 minutes ago. the peninsula, no problem. the south bay, your typical patterns, north 87 had some debris, but it's clear right around the alameda on-ramp. the san mateo bridge greatly improved, just 17 minutes across 92. very good after the earlier crash cleared. bay bridge a little slow. the richmond-san rafael bridge slower westbound. southbound 101 recovering, the crash at len con cleared also about 45 minutes ago.

7:43. we're back with a new program aimed at easing some of the tension that exists between law enforcement and the communities they serve. >> kate snow has been looking into this. good morning. >> reporter: there has been so much discussion this electioneer about how to improve the relationship between police and the people they protect and today the mentoring organizations big brothers big sisters which has been around for more than 100 years they're launching a new program called " "bigs and blue". >> in des moines and dallas officers down. in charlotte, tulsa, minnesota, and too many other cities protests rage after shootings by police. >> don't shoot him. he didn't do anything. >> often caught on camera. the distrust in some communities is out in the open. but at the same time there are moments like this. >> what classes do you have? science? what else? >> science, math. >> okay.

a one-on-one relationship. >> reporter: it is just about having someone who is going to be there for you. >> reporter: at a grade school in philadelphia police commissioner richard ross is telling kids about the program they will launch here. the school's principal says on these streets, police see the police officers as the bad guys. they've seen parents arrested by police quite often, police in the community, it is always something negative. >> that is why commissioner ross wants bigs in blue in this neighborhood. >> does it build trust on an individual level? >> i think it does that. there is no denying the climate we're in and police/community relations especially in communities of color and the need to cultivate the relationships so we're going to use that to help us do that and i think that is what we're optimistic about. >> robert and ryan are optimistic about their friendship a bond that has only grown stronger. >> we were outback, you remember that robert? we were kneeling down and i said we're brothers now, we're family we're with each other through the good times and the

on our ongoing series red, white and you, a trend that could have a big impact on how many vote next week. >> hi ronan farrow. we have been hearing about this. >> i think this will touch a nerve with a lot of people. according to one recent survey one in five voters lives in a state that requires photo i.d. to vote and don't know it. this situation has gotten a whole lot complicated a wave of new laws making it tougher than ever just to cast a ballot. >> i just felt so stunned and disenfranchised and angry. i should be able to go to my middle school, two blocks from my house and be able to cast my vote like every other american. >> reporter: this woman lives in wisconsin. a mother of three and a public schoolteacher. and this year, she was told she wouldn't be able to vote. >> i voted in every election since i was 18 years old.

>> reporter: but this year a new voter i.d. law took effect in wisconsin limiting the i.d. you can use at the polls. she is an american citizen who immigrated from ireland when she was 6 weeks old. she has an illinois driver's license but not a wisconsin issued photo i.d. or current passport. the dmv said she needed naturalization papers which would cost $345 and take many months to get. charda tries to cover her daughter's cystic fibrosis. eight of the states are limiting what kind of i.d. you can use. >> in texas, they have concealed weapons for voting but not school i.d. >> reporter: about 10% of registered voters don't have the right kind of i.d. >> they're disproportionately

poor people people of color, a lot of students coming from out of state. >> i was trying to get -- trying to get a wisconsin i.d. so i can vote. i don't have my birth certificate. i have everything else. >> reporter: in september, a voter advocacy group recorded a dmv turning away these are dent zach moore, who is homeless. >> i'm trying to figure out the other process. >> six to eight weeks. >> disappointed at the government i guess to keep people from voting. >> reporter: zach had a social security card, paystubs an and illinois i.d. but not a birth certificate. that entitled him to a temporary voter i.d. card. and when he showed students at nearby yunt of wisconsin madison, the list of valid forms of identification some were surprised. do you have one of those forms of i.d. with you on campus? >> no. only thing, i have a passport, but that's at home. >> i don't have one of the forms of i.d. >> i do not, actually. >> on campus, no.

>> reporter: molly mcgrath of voter righters is pushing back. >> new voters have to learn about the law. it's a learning curve for everyone. >> reporter: she helped record zach and others being turned away from registration. stories that led a federal judge to order an investigation. so far, courts have struck down or narrowed voter i.d. laws in seven states. finding they discriminate against minorities. one judge writing that in north carolina, the new provisions target african-americans with almost surgical precision. but the laws have numerous defenders. >> per state, we have a photo i.d. requirement. >> you have to get the -- some places they do that four or five times. >> we have seen it with in person fraud, the voter rolls are not pristine. you can have people showing up. they don't present i.d. so how does anybody know whether or not there was fraud committed? >> there are conservatives who say this is necessary, this is preventing fraud.

i've never liked marijuana. but i'm voting yes on prop 64 to legalize marijuana for adults 21 and over. it has important safeguards for families like strict product labeling and child-proof packaging of all marijuana products. and banning edibles that would appeal to a child. raising a teenager that regulated system makes a lot more sense than what we have now. plus, 64 taxes marijuana to fund priorities like after-school programs. personally marijuana's not for me. but my mind's made up. i'm voting yes on 64.

ideal of masculinity and how they have to appear to be. we forget to cry. we forget to be emotional, to show vulnerability, to show pain. >> for a long time there's been this gender stereotype that men are meant to be really tough and strong and brave. when i dropped out of high school it was because i was mentally unwell. >> at 17 i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a severe form. in battling that disease, people forgot that i was a human being. >> i know how hard it is to talk about this sort of stuff. i know how much of a barrier it can be particularly for men, whether it might be seen as being weak or not manly enough or whatever. >> we need to talk about this. we need to be honest about it. >> it's one of those things that's kept under wraps so much. it's so much more common than we realize. and we just hide it. >> let's change the conversation. let's make it a point for humankind to recognize that the brain is an organ just like every other part of the body and

about why men aren't talking about their minds. >> nearly half of the men, 46% say they're embarrassed to share their feelings about mental health and this is significant. 49% admit that they're feeling more depressed than they let on. >> yeah. >> you know men don't ask for directions when they're lost either. this is a male quality of not wanting to get help. go it alone. be brave. it's a known male quality, but sometimes it can get in your way. >> so when you come across men, what do you tell them? how do they get past this hurdle? >> a lot of folks think they have to man up. we even have that phrase. if you really want to man up protect your family. the most important thing a man needs to do is be there for the people in their life and it's important to let people know if they're not healthy, they won't walk their daughter down the aisle and be there for their family if they need help. >> does depression manifest differently in men than women? >> well there are more commonalities than differences. men tend to have an irritability thing perhaps more than women. they get irritable, enraged.

men want to go off by themselves. they want to do that anyway but they want to go off by themselves because they're irritable, they don't feel good and often do self-destructive habits like drinking or drug use because it feels good. >> this subject is geared towards men, but it also should be geared toward the women in our lives. how do women play a role in this to try to help guys become more communicative about things like this? >> first of all, use sports metaphors. but actually literally, say pass the ball to me honey. i'm here too. you don't have to do it all yourself. in this survey we did it together and found profound things out about men and they're very different from women. women want to be there for help. the man wants to protect, but the woman wants to be there for you as well. women want to help and if you say that to a man, they'll step down a bit and say, all right, i'll let it happen. otherwise, they'll deny. >> day after day. >> sports metaphors are good but war metaphors.

back now with our special series "brain power today," this morning a new way to fight alzheimer's disease that's showing a lot of promise. >> special anchor maria shriver is back with this part of the story. hi maria. good to see you. >> all three of you. well november is alzheimer's awareness month. to kick things off we are showing you something potentially extraordinary.

an experimental program that some patients say has literally reversed their symptoms and allowed them to live a normal life. ♪ >> reporter: at 50 deborah says her brain is sharper than decades before. >> mentally i feel at least in my 30s. it is amazing. >> reporter: amazing because this mother of four has the alzheimer's gene and struggled with serious cognitive decline in her 40s. >> i was forgetting things. it became increasingly difficult for me to recognize people's faces. and my fuzziness worried me because it wasn't like me. >> reporter: terrified of her future deborah began an experimental protocol designed to stop the symptoms of alzheimer's. it's called the bredesen program. >> we are getting results that haven't been seen before. >> reporter: california neurologist dr. dale bredesen created it. >> how are you attacking

alzheimer's in a new and groundbreaking way? >> we spent 27 years in the laboratory looking at what are the features that drive the underlying problem? >> reporter: he believes alzheimer's is caused by dozens of imbalances in the body that his program is designed to fix. his daily protocol includes eating a mediterranean diet high in vegetables and good fats, regular cardio exercise fasting at least 12 hours after dinner brain training exercises, getting at least eight hours of sleep, and a regimen of supplements to address each patient's deficiencies. >> you are saying that all of these things done together reverses cognitive impairment and/or alzheimer's. >> yes. we see improvement time after time after time. >> reporter: in a small published study, bredesen found his program boosted cognitive functioning in 9 out of 10 alzheimer's patients within six

months. so much so some could even return to work. did the bredesen program save your brain? >> yeah. >> reporter: this study patient asked us to hide his identity because he is a working physician diagnosed with early onset alzheimer's. when his memory started to slip he began the bredesen program. a year in he says his symptoms disappeared. his cognitive test scores back to normal. today, you're still practicing. >> very much so. i'm just functioning very high now. >> reporter: bredesen says his program only works for patients in early stages of the disease. do you consider yourself the alzheimer's cure? >> no of course not. the longest we have the person on a program is four and a half years. we've not had a single example yet out of the hundreds in which someone has gone on the program, gotten better, stayed on the program, and then gotten worse. >> reporter: he's now partnered with the cleveland clinic for a larger clinical trial of his program.

critics say until more research is done, the verdict is still out. but patients like deborah say they're living proof it works. >> i would stand on my rooftop and shout it out to people. >> i really felt like my life was saved. >> well the alzheimer's association says it is encouraged by dr. bredesen's initial results, but they do say further study is needed. dozens of doctors across the country have now been trained to administer his program which you can find out more about at today.com. next year he's going to publish a book about his program. lot of people excited about this. other doctors saying wait don't rush. this is not a cure. and also in this space it is all now about intervention and prevention. get to people early on. >> the good news is it can't hurt right? it can only help. >> but people talking a lot about fat in the diet. i thought the fact about fasting was interesting.

all right. we're back. it's 8:53. day two of our "today" food, all thanksgiving. we're pairing chefs and dishes to help you create a memorable holiday piece. this morning we have sweet and

savory recipes. ladies, good morning. >> good morning. how are you? >> a lot of different options here. you chose one ingredient to make a couple different ways. >> it's corn meal. i look for any excuse to make corn bread dressing. so honey we jumped on it. and she knows how to make it sweet, baby. >> i know. we don't invite grand baby cakes for just nothing. >> exactly. >> so we're going to start with our corn bread here. we have our self-rising flour, self-rising meal. we're going to whisk up some eggs. i'm going to start pouring in our buttermilk. we need to get all of these ingredients incorporated. go ahead and pour those eggs in. we're going to mix this. i'm going to let you mix it. we're going to talk about the most important thing which is this pan. it has got to be as hot as the hinges of hell. i'm not playing. >> okay, okay.

>> so we'll take our beautiful cast iron skillet. it does have some oil in it. this is hot. move back. i don't want to burn you. >> yesterday i almost died of smoke inhalation. >> you did. i saw that. what you're going to do is pour your batter in here. mix it, mix it mix it. now, we have our sauteed vegetables. we're moving on to the best part, which is the corn bread dressing. i've got sage. i have poultry seasoning. and a little bit of cayenne. we're going to saute this for about two minutes. you want that flavor to get in there. so we take our sauteed vegetables and then we're going to add them to our cracker crumbs. this is the corn bread. we're going to add that to this. then we have our eggs. now, before we do that, let's talk about this real quick. we do want to go ahead and add the chicken broth. then we're going to taste this. we have to make sure this is

right. literally, if we sit down on thanksgiving day and these things aren't correct, then the whole day is ruined. taste it, pour it and then we're going to bake it at 350. look at that fantasticness. >> talk to me, baby. >> isn't that good? >> all right. what are we making? >> we took corn bread. this is what we got. some butter in here. we got some sugar. you want to cream this? you want to add as much air to this, cream this as much as possible. we're going to add our eggs in one at a time. you want to make sure this is a nice and silky batter. then slow this baby down because as soon as you start adding in your corn meal and your flour, you want to make sure this does not overdevelop. just make sure it's nice light, and fluffy. once we've got our have nil la our buttermilk, that makes a nice moist cake. it comes out perfect. you have this cast iron because you cannot have a country

thanksgiving without a cast iron skillet. so then you're going to put this right in here in our cast iron skillet. bake this baby up. it comes out so delicious, so moist. you can even put it in a cake pan if you want to do that. you can do cute little mini buns. do whatever you want. >> that is not that difficult. >> this is not difficult at all. >> thank you so much. they're back on november 23rd along with 30 other chefs prethanksgiving celebration on the plaza.i'm ... ==topvo=a new twt in the ga of sanfranciscs sinking good morning. 8:56. i'm squot scott mcgrew. a new twist in the saga of san francisco's millennium tower. dennis herrera plans to announce some kind of new legal development though he's not yet indicated what that development is. it's happening today. back in september, the city served subpoenas to millennium towers developers to determine if the building's sinking issues were properly disclosed to

cincinnati. it's been a while for the reds fans. time to come down south. >> al roker is standing by he's in chicago. how did it feel to be there, buddy? >> we are at harry caray's. and the crowd has been here and we've been having a great time. and i got to tell you, it's the greatest world series game seven i've ever seen. it had a little bit of everything even a rain delay, which i think is kind of fitting. i like the idea that weather had something to do with this. which was pretty cool. and the other thing, by the ninth inning we had to go downstairs and get into the tunnel to get ready to go out on the field. so i got to see something that -- at first i wasn't sure what i was witnessing. but we were watching these guys were these carts that had boxes on them. turns out they were boxes of world champion gear.

world series gear. but they kept going from locker room to locker room as the -- as the lead changed. back forth, back forth. it was so close. it was incredible. then of course chicago finally pulls it out and i got to tell you, even though the game was played in cleveland, i think half the people in the stands were from chicago. >> hey! >> you see that final out and the crowd could goes nuts. and afterwards even after the game was over and the -- look at bill murray. he's just -- he was there. he has been such a long-time cubs fan. dancing in the stands having a great time. and then of course theo ebbsteinpstein bill and theo were in the clubhouse afterwards celebrating with champagne. it was spectacular. i got to go in to the locker room. i talked with ben zobrist.

i'm sam brock .minuteago, authorities in te nor bay a good thursday at 9:26. i'm sam brock. authorities in the north bay provided a chilling update on the investigation on the sonoma state campus. it appears to be human. that was the conclusion offered by spencer crumb after investigators spent a few hours this morning exhuming what sat beneath the shallow grave the human remains were uncovered on campus after a landscaper reported seeing what looked like part of a body protruding from the ground. this happened on a wooded area of campus 200 yards from one of the main parking lots there. deputies wanted to wait until the sun came up to exhume the remains. they have no reports of anyone missing and now the body will go to the coroner's office for dna testing and fingerprinting.
