involved. and potentially lifesaving medication, the cost skyrocketing in recent weeks. dan and danielle i want to talk about a life saving -- a traffic issue. grand avenue is shut down there bethany home road. justin pazera is there to explain what's happening. >> reporter: shut down in both directions as they investigate this crash. we don't know the severity of it that obviously it's something pretty major because look at this. this is already on grand avenue -- this is all red on grand avenue. if i step out of the way you can see this road closed signs shut down in both directions. we know this is because of a very serious crash but also just a few minutes ago take a look at some of the video of

using police dogs and going through a strip mall parking lot. officers were even looking under some of the cars parked in that area. we do know this was a crash involving a car and a motorcycle. apparently somebody involved in that crash took off from the scene, so it's a large police perimeter in this area. you will see that plus the road closure because of the crash. we are at a staging area at this point, waiting to get briefed from we're hoping it will happen shortly. they told us to come here so we could be updated so as soon as we get that update we will bring it to you but again just a big heads up on traffic in this area because it's going to be a traffic headache trying to get to work or from work this morning. mallory is standing by with a quick check on that. things are already really slowing down in this area, grand avenue shut down in both directions from bethany home to

glendale. so right now you're smart -- your smart routes here -- take a look. the eastbound side of traffic is already backed up to about northern. wrap your way background to grand avenue but either way you'll have to give yourself plenty of extra time. valley wide for freeways, we aren't doing too bad. just typical slow and go on i- 10 in the west valley but we have another road closure because of the crash just off i will show you that next. a live look outside, the sun is starting to come up and shining on downtown phoenix there. you can see it's a little hazy in the background and that's the darker clouds we have rolling through this morning. here's a look at the desert doppler right now. you can see not a whole lot with the radar just to the south here and where we did see some showers was just up north in scottsdale on the 101 but that looks like

current temperatures outside across the valley are in the 80s right now and here's a breakdown on how friday will pan out for you temperature wise. you are in for a muggy afternoon so keep that in mind. i will break down rain chances coming up. seconds ago phoenix police officers confirmed to abc15 that they are on the scene of what may be a drive-by shooting where a person was indeed shot. this unfolding near 27th avenue and camelback from around 5:00 this morning. the injuries appear to life-threatening. we had a crew en route to see what's going on there. a phoenix police officer is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting. the suspect is dead. abc15's katie connor is on the scene near 20th street and thomas. you've been telling us this is a very large crime scene but i want to ask , how is the officer this morning? >> reporter: chris, i just learned the injured officer has

he was attacked at a park on the other side of this crime tape. the officer was checking out a suspicious car around 230 this morning when police say the suspect out of nowhere attacked him. the officer was able to radio for help and unfortunately -- and fortunately there was an officer nearby. when that officer showed up, he fired at the suspect, killing him. he's now on leave as is standard protocol for all officer-involved shooting -- shootings talking with detectives here on scene who are trying to piece together everything that happened. at this time we don't know if the suspect was armed. reporting live in phoenix, katie conner abc15 news. this is video near 35th avenue and bethany home and neighbors who live there tell us they watched the officers pull two men into a patrol car and a third ran into a home.

night. it's now 35,000 acres, 22% contained. some evacuation orders have been lifted. meanwhile more help is on the way to help with the firefight. volunteers with the arizona red cross will be heading out to california this morning. volunteers have been busy because some of them are still in louisiana helping out with the flooding there. people crossing the southern border are routinely ld according to the aclu. they are suing border patrol over this. you see them using silver space blankets. a woman changing a baby's diaper on the concrete floor. they said they don't comment on lawsuits pending but they say they take the detainee -- holding of detainees very seriously.

an update to a consumer alert in macy's. in arizona location could be one of the stores closing year. morningstar credit rating is reporting it will be the tucson mall store since more people are now shopping online. they are looking to saves -- save money on stores that are less profitable. a heads up or anybody shopping at eddie bauer. your personal information might be at risk as they announced hackers gained access to their credit card system. we don't have word on how many customers might be impacted but the breach happened between

we have several eddie bauer stores locally so a heads up on that. still seeing slowing on the 10 and then picking up right now on i-17 southbound around the durango curve but trying to get on and off the 17, you will find trouble because we have a serious crash that has closed down period avenue between 39 and 35th just off the 17 so trying to access that portion of the freeway i would use dunlap. but once you are on it's actually not doing too bad. this is really the biggest spot we are seeing delays. they aren't that bad but it looks like we have a crash or stall right around 27th avenue. we also have a traffic alert this weekend on the 10 so i will show you that next. we've got this alert.

we've almost made it to the weekend and with that comes freeway closures. it's going test -- to shut down . it's basically shut down from the stack to the mini stack. then i-10 westbound to the split . both of those closures, just the i-17 use the north or southbound ramp right around the durango curve and that will get you around the closure and any congestion there but right now current conditions are pretty nice. in the east valley, just an eight minute drive time on u.s. 60 and from country club to the 10, any of those delays we were seeing earlier on the 10 and 17 have completely eased up. you are seeing all green and almost 6:30 in the morning. we will give you were closure

we're tracking rain moving into parts of the valley but first an officer-involved shooting turns deadly. let's head right over to the live desk with christopher sign . >> at this point we know an officer was injured and sent to the hospital. we've confirmed the suspect died on scene. that investigation happening around 28th street. it's a la off of thomas. abc15's katie conner has been on scene for us all morning long. first, how are the officers? >> reporter: we just learned the officer has a broken nose and some other injuries to his face but believe it or not -- he's talking to detectives here on scene about what happened. right now investigators are trying to figure out if this suspect is tied to the pt cruiser. that's where they say -- that's

checking out -- that the police officer was checking out when the suspect out of nowhere attacked him. the suspect may have moved toward the responding officer who then shot and killed the suspect here at the scene. back out here investigators are trying to identify exactly who the suspect is. police will not say, chris, if he was armed. katie, thanks for the update . meanwhile also breaking at this very momentth the scene. this is the location i should say. police are on the scene of what appears to be a drive-by shooting. one person has been shot at 27th avenue and camelback. the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. i am looking at the live feeds right now. air15 is not on scene yet but when they are we will get a better idea of what happened here.

we had a bit of everything overnight. >> yes there were several lightning strikes out in the west valley. not a ton of rain but a pretty good show from mother nature. >> and overnight a lot of palm trees. check this out from glendale. it got so close to some homes, too close for comfort but thankfully no houses catching fire as the palm trees burned. i have desert doppler up right now and there's nothing. it's really quiet compared to what we saw around 4:00 or 5:00 this morning. we had this cell moving from the west and all we see right now is it's pretty clear. maybe spotty showers along the loop 11 n., but otherwise not bad. we keep lingering storm chances today. not as hot as we have been and then we have a look at the weekend forecast. i know a lot of you have plans. we made it to friday but here's a look at how temperatures

from the scene. justin pazera is there on scene right now. >> reporter: we have a lot going on right now because they are also investigating a crash and looking for the suspect involved in this. you can see grand avenue is shut down in both directions here in glendale. i just got an update a few minutes ago from glendale police and they said this was between the driver of a silver car and a motorcycle. the bike is actually -- could see this earlier. it's under the car so the driver of that bike is in very serious condition. the driver of the car took off running. we saw police using k-9 units this morning trying to locate the driver. they were looking with flashlights and we just got an update from police on who they are looking for. they said it's a hispanic male 35 to 40 years old, last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. they are asking anybody with information on

i am katie conner live in phoenix following the latest on a deputy involved shooting. an officer was checking out a suspicious car and that's when the suspect walked up out of nowhere and attacked the officer. when backup arrived they say the officer shot and killed the suspect. rain now detectives are trying to figure out who the suspect is . the injured officer those expected to be okay. reporting live from ph and another scene unfolding at this moment near i-17 and camelback. one person was shot by somebody in a vehicle. we're told the injuries are not life-threatening and we are asking questions of phoenix police officers if this may be tied to the serial street shooter. i'm justin pazera live in glendale where grand avenue is shut down in both directions near bethany home. police are investigating a serious crash and we are getting a live look

now how's that thing supposed to convince anyone to buy a car? it's just full of hot air and doesn't say much. like the labels you see on a lot of chicken packaging. the ones that say "raised without antibiotics." that's just a trick to get you to pay more money. fact is, by federal law, all chickens must be clear of antibiotics before they leave the farm. it's a marketing gimmick...like mr. floppy arms here. though i must say, he is somewhat hypnotic. don't fall for the hype, dale.
