. >> it's shutting down the intersection of 32nd street and bell, happening right now. katie conner is on the scene for us monitoring this breaking news all morning long. katie, what's the latest? >> reporter: detectives have been waiting for the sun to go up for this investigation. let me walk you through what happened. the driver of the silver car actually worked for dominoes. you can see this in the middle of the street. last night the security guard tells me pizza sometime after 11 pm when a white pickup truck slammed right into him. both drivers were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals and both are in serious condition right now. police won't say why the crash happened but you can see the dozens of intersection -- of evidence markers here in the street. this extends beyond the intersection. the best piece of advice is to avoid the area. we saw somebody who didn't

drove right through it. so please remind everybody at home just to avoid this area. >> i thinks -- i think that's the second time in a week we've seen someday drive to the inner -- through the barricades. mallory, how do people get around this? >> you really just have to avoid that area especially right off the 51. bell road right at 32nd street is the closure but it sounds like bell road closed between 28 and 32nd. so smart routes this morning, greenway road and maybe union hills can help you get around and maybe cave creek. even 51 is looking too bad. throughout the valley the delays are on i-17 and i-10. this is back right here about 75th avenue. it's pretty packed right now with a lot of brake lights making your way inbound. i will break down the desert drive times and what to expect on the 10 in a couple minutes.

today a state funeral expected today for dozens killed in the earthquake. they are receiving criticism for holding the ceremony in n airport hangar. survivors are now dealing with what some might consider a new low as police are patrolling destroyed villages looking for leaders. so far -- for luther -- some of the victims or even sleeping in cars near their homes because they are afraid of getting robbed. as we talk about your most accurate forecast, the sun is officially up here on this tuesday morning and today we are in for a mostly sunny day. no uv alerts but the uv index is right at a 9 putting us in

are left right out in the open for civilians to see . new video showing the arrest of a possible domestic terrorism suspect in indianapolis. we first told you about this last night at 10:00. christopher byrne was stopped during a traffic stop and police found a rifle, 100 rounds of ammo and some bomb making chemicals. we're told he's been on the po he's now charged with planning an act of terror. to the smallest state with a very big problem here is investigators are trying to figure out how this crane tipped over and came crashing down into the river below. it left to workers stuck in a bucket about 100 feet above the river. we're told the men were inspecting underneath when the truck -- truck tipped over. they had to bring in a second crane to rescue them. they were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

sex crime sentencing bill in response to the brough turner case when the former stanford swimmer only got a six-month jail sentence after he's -- after he was convicted of sexual assault. if passed, anybody convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious person is automatically going to get jail time. brough turner is set to be released on friday. we are waiting to learn if there will be a publ for comedian gene wilder who died last night at the age of 83. he was best known for blazing saddles, and of course willy wonka and the chocolate factory. he even filmed some of these right here in arizona. the frisco kid was that old stoop -- old tucson and stir crazy or was shot -- and crazy was shot inside the florence prison. so-called sober homes are where the battling -- those battling addiction can turn

headed to scottsdale on this 11 minute drive time here. no delays or problems northbound from the 202 until you hit shea boulevard but a couple of new crashes for east valley drivers. they sound pretty minor at this point. no slowing here but we also have a crash on i-10, on ray road west of the 10. traveling westbound you will see the right lane blocked so you could hop down and chandler boulevard instead but again it is slowing traffic just a little bit so something to look for there. back out in the valley we will break down the west valley commute in minutes. a busy intersection right here at 30-second and bell shut down for this band crash early this morning. coming up i will have new information on the investigation. and a man was standing in his driveway early when a car drove by -- and opened fire.

we begin with a traffic alert and breaking news happening right now. the intersection of 32nd street and bell is shut down right now . it's a very busy intersection but this is because of a crash early this morning. we do have live team coverage for you including the smart routes on ways to get around this problem area but first let's start with abc15's katie connor and the latest on this investigation. it's been happening for hours now katie. stroke yes, and -- >> reporter: yes, take a look at how bad the damage is to the silver car. i've been told that late last night the driver was actually

when the white pickup truck slammed right into him. that's when the security guard here tells me he heard the noise and came outside. both drivers were rushed to the hospital and are currently in very serious condition. as investigators were investigating, this guy plowed through the caught -- the crime tape stopping about 15 feet from a patrol car. we watched officers give him a sobriety test. remember to avoid this area as police continue to investigate. they expect this intersection to be shut down for the next several hours. let's send it over to mallory for more. bell road is actually completely shut down between 30- second and 28 so the smart route this morning to save you some time will be greenway road and union hills. hop on there. typically this is a busy intersection so it will delay you just a little bit this morning if you try to had -- so try to head out a little lyerly. -- a little early.

and the 10. and then we do have a couple of new crashes out in east valley so dan and danielle i will map that out for you next. i remember when i used to drive early. by going to get slowed down, and what will the weather be like? those were the questions. it will be milder than it has been. we've been sitting in the upper 80s clear sky so we will be dry as you head out the door. we climbed to 97 x 10 a.m. and then the 100s set in today before lunchtime so we will be at 103 by noon. we are up to 107 so if you thought yesterday was hot today is getting hotter. we talk about when storm chances return in just a few minutes. tollefson firefighters are

overnight. some of you reached out to us on the facebook page and here's what we know: a passerby noticed liquid in the road near 96 avenue and roosevelt. that's just south of i-10 and when crews got there they found about 30 gallons of an unknown liquid there, possibly some cleaning items used at some kind of wellsite there. we have a call into the fire department and we're waiting to hear back information to update you. you asked, we get the answers. dps says the driver here slammed into a woman going about 100 miles an hour. the tow truck driver watched it all unfold on the i-17 and came to the rescue, first checking on the woman and then he chased down the driver. our cameras were there just after the driver was pepper sprayed. the driver said he just was following instincts. >> he ran down a couple blocks in the neighborhood and that was that.

so s.w.a.t. was called in and as police were trying to get them out, they ended up calling one of the guys' wives and he started to speak with her. she told him to get outside and that's when he walked outside. s.w.a.t. was about to go in when he surrendered. officers say alcohol was a factor in this one. and this is near 36th street and monta vista. a large police presence here, called out for a man whose armed with a knife apparently holding his wife -- having a the children were inside the home. they managed to escape the mess and the man eventually led his wife go. that man eventually did give up to police officers and thankfully no injuries in that incident, daniel. talking through text messages, one man says his dog is being held hostage right now . the pup was palmed off as ransom my some unknown dog-

police want to find the two guys you saw here, turned away around closing time. they got into a fight and two men were shot. thankfully both of them and will pull through. concerns are growing in southeast asia as a case of zika virus cases have been -- a bunch of zika virus cases have been reported. bringing the number in that area to 56. the latest number happening at a construction worksite so they now have workers taking extreme measures, actually in a quarantine like rm they have to take their temperature twice a day, put on mosquito repellent every hour and we are two types of patches with repellent. this is important information though because you've got to remember, it's only a plane flight away. >> and speaking of zika virus right now the fda is requesting all u.s. blood supplies be screened for the virus. the agency says screening needs to expanded for larger organizations like he red cross.

we've got more health news this morning, danielle. this research is now reviewing electronic cigarettes could be as bad for your heart as smoking tobacco. scientists increase found that inhaling nicotine vapor damages keep blood cells -- vessels, raising the risk of heart disease. they found either east six or regular tobacco led to similar neck stiffness and raised blood pressure for today plan on low humidity but more heat. temperatures are already starting out warmer than the last few days, no 70s for phoenix. the coolest we've been is only 84 degrees. now we are back up to 87 and today's warm up will be quicker so as you get ready to head out the door it's likely you will need the ac on in the car because we will warm up pretty quickly. we've got sunny to mostly sunny skies through the day and we

continuing to warm through the to put -- triple digits. today's high is two degrees hotter up to 107. that's a few degrees above average also and that drier air will also keep storm chances out of our valley forecast, but we will see some of those clouds billowing up off to the east as storms will be possible today over the higher terrain east of the valley. we will have to watch any gusty winds that come off of the higher terrain into some of our desert areas could bring a desperate. fairly low but something we will be watching to afternoon. going into tomorrow monsoon meister starts to make its way back in and storm chances are back in the valley forecast there's a slight chance on wednesday, slightly better chances by thursday. we will talk about the weekend in your 7-day forecast next. i want to head back out to this glass on the freeway, i-10 eastbound just past the mini stack. looks like it's blocking that bright plane and even parks -- partially blocking the center lane.

can get this cleaned up folks are having to drive along the shoulder there. we will give you some smart routes to avoid this area. maybe just continue on the 202 eastbound and then you could take state route 143 southbound and that want to leave too much because you're looking at pretty good desert drive times in that area. you are seeing an 18 minute drive on i-10 in the west valley from loop 101 to the 17 with a stall at adding to some of those delays. and we are seeing a lot of little traffic jams throughout the valley so we will break down some of those hotspots in a few minutes. and we've got to remind you the final preseason game for the arizona cardinals is this thursday and glendale, taking on the denver broncos. our exclusive coverage starts thursday at six with kickoff at 630. all the action news -- with kickoff at 6:30. all the action is right here on
