apartment and talking to the homeowner. >> my fear is his -- are escalating. >> a warning for valley police as joggers are told to be extra vigilant. you're following breaking news. >> breaking and scary. we talk about our first responders, the men and women who protect our community coming under attack in phoenix. as i three police officers intentionally hit while on the job this morning. and right now three officers are recovering after an overnight incident. two of them still in the hospital. katie conner has been following every single development for us. she's just west of the i-17. it's my understanding you just got a brand new piece of information. what do you have? >> reporter: one of these officers that was injured --

i'm told he's being treated with a head injury. he was standing outside this qt with two other officers when the driver of this maroon car drove right at them. surveillance video shows one of the officers pinned between the car and the store. the third officer is here at the scene helping with the investigation. right now the suspect is being questioned by detectives at phoenix police think that impairment is a factor. live at the scene this qt will be shut down for several hours for investigation. and as we learn more about the suspect. we'll pass it to everyone at home. time to get you out the door with the most accurate forecast. not seeing as much cloud cover. and we're getting nice color in the sky with a few of the clouds over the superstitions

time is 18 minutes so it's heavy this morning. this is eastbound from 75th to the ministack. and the slowing almost back to 101. 6:03 and one of our top stories if you're waking up with us. a phoenix family forced to flee from their apartment due to a fire. the people who live there believe this fire was intimately set. justin pazera has been scene for us with a close look at the damage. and this looking so bad. >> reporter: it was a desperate move by everybody to try to save this. you can see the glass there busted out. and the fire extinguisher over here. and as we take a look. there are fire extinguishers

police are asking you to pay attention if you happen to run on the bridle path. a man is exposing himself on that stretch from glendale to northern. he allows the victims to cross and then acts like he needs help. and when the women get close to the car, he exposes himself. we spoke with one of the first victims. 36 i looked down into the car and he had his pants down around his knees and he was performing a lewd exposing himself to me. >> the suspect is described as african-american in his late teens or early 20s in a light colored sedan. if you see anything or know anything about this, please call police. >> yes, that's booing at a town council meeting in guadalupe. candidates who lost the

council for now. the acting mayor says it's about giving the younger candidates a chance at town government. the steps to initiate a recount will begin as the secretary of state's office certified the results. this includes district 5 for the congressional seat there. christine jones biggs by 16 votes. lindsay, the scottsdale yoga instructor is accused of letting several underage boys at a bar mitzvah fondle her. the jury could start deliberating this afternoon. two teens safe after being rescued off camelback mountain. we're told the 16 and 18-year- olds were in a spot that was

they needed help. this comes days after another mountain rescue. authorities handed out a ticket to a couple for being there after dark. no ticket with us issued for the teens last night. problem free at 35th avenue. and we have a crash on the 101 in the east valley. i'll map that out for you next. and we have a lingering chance for storms today. all dry now but we'll talk about the storm chances and winds state. taiwan is bracing for a super typhoon. this thing is a monster. and it's just hours away from making landfall on the island.

10 minutes after 6:00 and boy, happening right now. people in taiwan are bracing for worst. a super typhoon is racing towards the you saw the preps there. i want you to see how big this is. it's a monster storm. it was upgraded to a category five storm, the absolute strongest a storm can be. it's expected to make landfall tomorrow morning, bringing winds greater than 150 miles per hour. it could be absolutely catastrophic. and the possibility of flash flooding and mud slides -- this is something else.

and meteorologist iris hermosillo. a lot of families are preparing for day. >> it's going to be a great start to our tuesday morning. temperature-wise, we're sitting in the 70s across much of the valley, including phoenix sky harbor. and the temperatures have dropped a bit further just at the top of the hour. chandler is checking in at 73. and mesa a degree cooler at 72. anthem at 67. 75 in good year. 76 degrees in buckeye. so a nice start across the valley as far as the temperatures go. we have some of the breezes and you'll feel them when you step outside. between five and 15 miles per hour across the valley now. and they'll get stronger today. by this afternoon, breezy conditions in the valley with winds out of the south, southwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. and gusting at times near 30 miles per hour today. winds will be stronger across

gusts as high as 40 to 45 miles per hour. wind advisories are posted for the northern pocket 06 the state. the tan color -- those will be in effect this evening. and a red flag warning in the pink for the upper colorado river valley. the most accurate forecast in the valley. a gradual warmup and highs in the 90s. we have to talk about the storm chances in just a few minutes. for drivers in the east valley. things are quie speeds go. we have a crash on the 101. right at elliot road. it's on the onramp. and everything is pushed to the right. and that tow truck and car we had in the east valley. i-10 at baseline. that has since cleared. i want to give you a look at a different portion of the 101 at 19th avenue. you had a nice drive most of the morning. in the stance near i-17

missing several cars. he lets a passenger out and it was difficult to see and takes off again. the suspected finally abandoned the car and ran into a yard. and i thought we could see it. he slipped on his back and ended up giving up. police arrested him as they moved in. i have no idea why people continue to run from police. you cannot outrun the place radios. and they are always from the sky. security changes are taking place at phenix city hall. this is third avenue and washington. starting later this month, all visitors will have to use the main entrance on the north side of the building. and then you'll have to pass through a metal detector. just a heads up for time purposes. nothing happened to prompt the

>> florida reporting more cases of zika, bringing the total number to 64. city officials are sprays pesticides, hoping to kill off the mosquitoes. florida's governor will be in washington, d.c. meeting with lawmakers to get more funding for zika. president obama says he's hopeful a federal budget will include funding for zika and that it will eventually be reached. the growing memorial in memphis for the nine people killed in a house fire there. six of the victims were children. just heart wrenching. this morning we're hearing from the heartbroken family members. >> i'm at a loss for words. i just feel like it's an out of body experience right now. >> investigators think the air conditioner started the fire. one child is still in the hospital this morning. and officials say all of the

inhalation. to college hoops news. the final four is here in the valley in glendale. and the road to march madness won't be going through north carolina any time soon. the ncaa is moving the first two rounds out of the state because next year their controversial bathroom law goes into place or it's in place and that's why they're moving it. many say the law is discriminatory towards the transgender community. president obama could veto the 9/11 lawsuit bill as early as today. the measure would have given the green light for victims of 9/11 to sue saudi arabia. secret documents accuse the saudis of paying the hijackers, the president has promised to veto that billing. a 9-year-old in new york is celebrating his role as a

as you look off to the east. and as you look out to the west or southwest. a bit of a different picture. high clouds slowly working their way in over the valley. we'll see a little bit more cloud cover by this afternoon certainly. and the high clouds will start streaming in over the next few hours. don't worry about the rain. it's dry across the valley on desert doppler so you're not going to see any showers. and it's not just the valley. spots to the southwest, the southeast, and even up to the north and in southeast arizona. things all clear, all dry this morning. and storm chances in the forecast for today. we've got lingering moisture. drier air will start moving in tomorrow. and today a chance for scattered showers and storms along the mogollon rim, northeast arizona and the white mountains. for the valley, we'll see some of the high clouds, and by this afternoon, there's a chance for a few pop-up storms.

today. especially on the north valley foothills and in the east valley seeing the potential for a few scattered pop-ups. once we get into the evening -- after sunset -- the storm chances trend down and we clear out the skies. and most of us dry with the exception of eastern and southeastern arizona. today, the morning drive, early afternoon looks quiet. and after 2:00, a 10% chance for storms and the 10% chance in the forecast through 7:00 before we clear out the storm chances. our high today makes it to 98 degrees and that's where the temperature will stop climbing. today, upper 90s. we're talking highs in the mid- to upper 90s each day. the morning temperatures feeling even better. we'll talk about the hazards to be on the lookout as storms develop next.

take a look. solid delays from 101 making your way inbound. we're up to 32 minutes from the 101 to the i-17 stack. and considering we haven't had any crashes, that's pretty slow. i-10 in the east valley, no problems here. and i-17 starting around loop 101 and traveling southbound the i-17 stack, that's 18 minutes. a little bit of a delay. the only crash is in the east valley. let's gave you a quick lie. this is the onramp of loom 101 northbound. not a huge impact. we'll head to the east valley in a couple of minutes and give you a look at u.s. 60. this qt shut down after three phoenix police officers

right now at 6:30 on abc15 mornings. three big stories in the valley. >> our reporters have you covered. officers attacked on the job. and a family forced out by flames and it might not be an accident. it's 6:30 on this tuesday. a busy morning from the abc15 live desk. lots of breaking news. >> we have a what's happening weather-wise? >> i have good news. feeling pretty good. your guys thought i had bad news. not the case at all. feeling pretty good and a few highway clouds drifting in and all dry as you get ready to head outside. this is our view with the valley cam. and you'll enjoy a nice view. we have breezes out there. mostly clear across the valley and sitting at 79 degrees. and check this out.

a high of 98 degrees in phoenix. and the breezes stick around and get stronger. i'll show you how strong they'll be and we have to talk about our lingering storm chances in just a few minutes. we have a new crash on the 10 and they cleared it quickly. an eastbound crash is blocking the hov lane. just a couple of minutes ago they mauved it off to the side. i don't think you'll see that crash any more. it's going to add on i-10. let's take a look. delays just before the 101 so it's heavy on the 10 and you're not going to have it ease up until the tunnel or so. all the previous delays have cleared out. and the 101 in the north part of the valley is the slow spot.

breaking news. three phoenix police officers were targeted at a quick trip off the i-17 and camelback. this was no accident. investigators say it was intentional. and katie conner is on the scene live. >> right now detectives are questioning the suspect. and police say it was an intentional act. we just switched sides. the vehicle slammed into the front of the store there. and detectives surveillance video, trying to piece together what happened. >> you can see in the video that they hear the car revving. they see them and try to run out of the way. and two of them get struck very seriously. >> the driver doesn't stop there. he gets out and fights the third officer at the scene for two minutes until backup arrives. abc15 the only station here as

hospital. the third officer is back out here at the scene helping with the investigation. back out here live you can see the command van is here. and they'll be here at the qt for several hours. the name of the suspect has not yet been released and as we learn that we'll pas it on to everyone at home. katie conner, abc15. >> reporter: i'm justin pazera live in phoenix where a family of four is thankful that they were able to get out of their burning apartment complex. folks were grabbing every fire extinguisher possible. you can see all of the fire extinguishers on the ground. we counted 14. a resident got called into work and took a pass on that extra day. he hates to think what would have happened if he was not here to hear the fire and get his family out safely. everyone was trying to get the fire under control.

a female driver in her 20s died on the scene. a passenger, a man in his 20s inside that car was transported to the hospital in serious condition. a driver of the truck was a man in his 60s taken to the hospital in serious condition. and he's being tested for impairment. this is still developing right now. >> targeted twice in a year by thieves. >> this morning a crime alert for people in the central part of homeowner says a team of thieves drove up and used a hammer and a screwdriver. and within seconds, see what they're doing. they're hauling away expensive repair equipment. >> within two minutes they are in and out with $2000 worth of specialty tools. >> the crooks driving off in a dodge durango.

scammers are calling as aps agents, threatening to shut off the power if you don't call a toll free hotline and pay a certain amount of money. sounds like a scam. it is a scam. please do not fall for this one. back at the live desk, i want to turn to a weather alert as friends in the southern part of the state are waking up to bad damage from storms. >> there it is. the rain and hail about the size of a quarter. the storms heavy enough to cause street closures today. look how hard the rain was coming down. uh-oh, that's a problem. don't forget to turn around and don't drown. this driver got stuck near palo verde high school.

water was? just stop and turn around. eventually, a man helped him tow the car out. it takes less than 8 inches of water to completely move your car. word to the wise, don't do that. a lot of people are planning their day. what can they expect? >> not a bad looking start to the day. and when you step outside, here's your view with a few high clouds drifting back in. otherwise, very, very nice and cry as you head no rain to impact the morning commute. temperature-wise we're in the low 70s in chandler and mesa. 72 and 73 in both of those cities. 78 in deer valley and glendale. winds a little bit breezy. you'll feel the cooler temperatures and the stronger winds. our temperatures will gradually warm. we're at 79 in phoenix.

no triple-digits today. a high of 98 degrees in phoenix with partly cloudy skies. and nose winds by this afternoon gusting at times near 30 miles per hour in the phoenix metro. even stronger across northern arizona and wind alerts in effect for the northwest pocket of the state today. we'll talk more about the alerts and the storm chances you'll see across the state and in the valley next. we have a crash on the freeway, on state route 51. everything is on the right-hand side b y bit of slowing. southbound near northern avenue and off on the right. and as you're coming around the corner, use caution. it's not causing extensive delays. state route 51 looks good. and a 20-minute desert drive time. from the 17 that's the slowest spot near 19th avenue. and that takes you to state route 51. this intersection is still shut

good morning, folks. boy, what a beautiful sunrise this is. a view of downtown phoenix, the valley of the sun. clouds in the sky making for a picturesque view. 79degrees, pretty cool for some valley cities. look at your screen if you can. video that no parent wants to see. a school bus burning. and there were students on that bus when it went up in flames. >> just unbelievable video captured on an officer's dash cam in maryland. the bus driver kept his cool and evacuated the students. officials think it started from a rear tire.

year. and it goes all the way to the record breaking space trip. i showed you earlier that the winds will be the strongest in northern arizona. wind advisories in the tan color including flagstaff. also the grand canyon and parts of yavapai county. the winds will be strong and we have dry conditions along the upper if you're driving up north know that you can encounter strong cross winds this afternoon into the evening. no alerts for valley. and we'll feel some stronger winds by this afternoon. we're already feeling breezes as we get into the afternoon. the winds could gust as high as 25 to 30 miles per hour today. it's 79 degrees now. and we'll warm into the 90s with a high of 98 by 3:00 this afternoon. partly cloudy skies through the afternoon. and a slight chance of storms

there's the potential we could get an isolated storm or two. and storms could produce strong winds, possibly pockets of dust, and pockets of heavy rainfall. the best storm potential will be northern arizona and we'll watch the northern valley foothills for the best chance of storms today before we start to dry out. i'll show you the 7-day forecast next. we still have the crash, loop 101 in the east valley near elliot. the 101 is slowing take a look from the adot camera. and cutting off -- starts to slow near chandler boulevard and doesn't ease up until you hit elliot or so. let's give you a better perspective of the entire east valley. starting at value vista to country club. it's slow. and the desert drive time is 12 minutes. not terrible but you'll see slowing westbound from the 202 to the 60 and by the time you
