in the valley, but three women found themselves in a dangerous spot and needed help. chris grow is at the base of camelback mountain, and these three hikers were from out of town right? >> reporter: yeah, that's what phoenix fire is telling us. they're staying at a nearby resort and took a shuttle around 9:00 a.m. this morning to camelback mountain, so they were out on the trail for hours and found in pretty harsh conditions. trail is what phoenix fire is telling us. that would be a scary situation if you're a novice, have out of town, or even experienced as well, so rescue crews were able to get to the women, but they couldn't lead them back down, so they developed a plan and air lifted them off the mountain like we saw earlier today. this the another reminder to know the hike before you go out there. often resorts have information at the desk, but you have to

and killed byplays that shut down a portion of the i-17 near downtown yesterday morning as a home invasion around 67th avenue and thomas. police say robert carillo took off in a car, eventually slammed into a tree before pointing a gun at officers. a cop fired his weapon killing the suspect. and we're learning more about a man shot by police after he threatened them with a knife. the man was looking to commit suid but he survived the shooting. the 23-year-old was taken to the hospital and then taken to jail. he told cops he wanted to take his own life because he lost his job and couldn't get into college. we're wrapping up a gorgeous week here in the valley. sunny and dry, and the high 97 is a few degrees below the normal of 100, and it's sunny and dry across the entire state, not just here.

morning as a plane headed to phoenix blew a tire on take off. the american airlines flight had the mishap in portland, and declared the emergency on route to sky harbor. the plane was able to touchdown safely. and a fire station not taking chances after a woman drops off chemicals. the station put operations on hold for a bit while investigators tried to determine what the chemicals were. the woman's husband recreptly away and she was trying to get rid of the belongings. they posed no hazard to the environment. we told you about donald trump abonn donning the -- abandoning the birther controversy, but the president finds the comments unnecessary. >> i have no reaction and i'm shocked that a question like that would come up at a time when we have so many other
