valley wide. and i'll have more coming up, iris. all right. we are dry and will stay dry for the morning commute. you will step outside to humid conditions this morning. as we go through the day, you have to know we have storm chances on tap and they will go up higher today especially this afternoon. it will be cooler and drier but not until tomorrow after the storms move through afternoon. we'll get the cooler, drier air heading into the weekend. temperatures in the 70s in many spots in the valleys, increasing clouds and then the storm chances kick in this afternoon. i'll break down the hour by hour planner next. 5:01, and let's update you on what is happening. it's a busy night for first responders. phoenix firefighters are called out to two home fire this is morning, and they are not

behind damage. allison rodriguez is live with the latest at 24th and mcdowell. allison, anyone hurt in this one? >> reporter: yeah. the good news, chris, nobody was hurt. but the damage is done. look at this, smoke and foam still left from when the crews were out here. they believe it started with the water heater and now the home is charred and smells like smoke. firefighters having to force through the door after they got i am told it started with the water heater outside the home and spread to inside the home. the firefighters put it out before it spread. no injuries reported, but firefighters were also battling this fire at 51st and lower buckeye road, an unrelated one. i am told that they tried to put this out with a garden hose and that person did burn his hand. it's believed that 1 started

the mobile home. that one, a total loss, and meanwhile, back here issue officials, they are looking for people 2 lived in the home. nobody was home at the time but they believe that people live here but they don't know what happened. that's the focus this morning. allison rodriguez, abc15. >> allison, thank you. a crime alert and a warning as you get your kids ready for school and drop your car doors. there was a rash of break ins crudes the valley. it's believed these two suspects, i believe we have a shot of them, have targeted parking lots, searching for parents taking their kids in and out of locations. they are accused of swiping credit cards and racking up more than $5,000 in charges. >> i can't believe it. we in 2016, really, and our daycares are hit up?

patrol and make sure his deputies stay safe. we are keeping track of a couple of cases as we head into the courtroom. cody gibson is expected for a conference hearing. he is the 18-year-old man police say hit a valley veteran with his car and left the scene in april. gibson said he didn't mean to hurt the shouldn't have gotten in our business. and a woman admits to killing two people in mesa while driving drunk and high in a crash. the judge released her until the trial starts parking an online petition to get her back behind bars. both cases are scheduled for 8:30 this morning. family and friends will say goodbye to a 36-year-old who was killed last week by the

storms in the valley will be between 3:00 and 6:00 this afternoon in the early evening. a line of storms developing out to the west and slowly track into the east. midday, lunchtime, storms nearby west in maricopa county. eventually, that line of storms pushes east and across the valley where it will become more scattered. not everybody will see a thunderstorm but they cod between for several neighborhoods today. and then we'll bring in drier and cooler air. the winds kicking upstate wide. i'll break down that forecast next. earlier this morning, we had a couple crashes in the east valley on the 101 and 60, but everything has cleared up there. a lot of slowing on the 202. let's give you a look. i would recommend i-10

late this morning, something to be watching for through the day and winds will kick upstate wide ahead of the approaching storm system. after 9:00, i have a 10% chance of an isolated storm in the valley. after 1:00, the chance is up to 20%, and by 3:00 to 6:00, notice a 40% chance of scattered storms. more confident that we'll see the storms developing by mid to late afternoon across the phoenix metro. know that any storm that develops today, both in the valley and across the state will have the potential of producing strong winds and pockets of heavier rain and possibly hail especially across the high country. we have a risk of severe thunderstorms northwest of the valley. for the valley, just a chance of storms, not looking at a severe risk. but looking west and northwest,

north, there is a risk for storms but a higher risk along the utah border. so storms are a possibility today. and the wind advisories will go into effect at noon, and we have a heightened fire threat because of the strong winds in the upper colorado river valley. the strongest winds today will pick up across northern arizona and we'll feel the breezes in the valley, too especially in the afte to 15 miles per hour but the gusts could be as high as 25 miles per hour in the early afternoon. so a breezy day, watch for storms and know that the temperatures will still warm to 90. and then cooler and drier air and tomorrow into the weekend, highs only in the upper 80s on friday and saturday, low 90s and check out the morning lows, down in the 60 by saturday morning. iris, we are seeing the i-

carolina's governor after the city of charlotte sees chaos and violence. it looks like a war zone two nights in a row. the governor declared a state of emergency and called on the national guard to come in and calm the city down. chris sign at the live desk, you have everything going on there in north carolina. >> reporter: while you were talking, dan, my producer is just telling me in my ear that the charlotte mayor is deciding on into effect later this evening. most of the destruction has centered around uptown charlotte, headquarters for bank of america, and their employees will not be reporting into work. a robocall telling them do not show up to work because it's not safe, and one person is in critical condition after being shot during the protest. and several police officers were hurt, and protesters were

home where the wiring is sticking out. i'm told fire crews were called out here, officials saying it started outside because of a water heater on the floor and then it spread to the inside of the home. firefighter his to force their way in because nobody was answered, and they needed to make sure nobody was stuck inside. it was empty and nobody was inside but once crews made their way inside, they were able to put it out quickly before back out here live, fire officials are trying to find the people who live here but they don't know where they are. that's the big task. the other news, nobody was hurt. allison rodriguez, abc15. back to the breaking news very quickly from the live desk. and 35th and beardsley is the location, and i am told there are reports of explosions happening here. that could be a variety of

the first day of fall. and we'll have changes, humid out there, cooler, drier air on the way thanks to a storm system. and the boundary between the two air masses is where we will track storms. so for today, we'll watch for a line of storms to develop to the northwest. so far, just light showers to the northwest and they will be possible in northwest arizona first and watch how the line moves through maricopa county moving into the valleys. i think we do have at least a 10% chance of storms after fine:00 this morning but the best potential for scattered storms in the phoenix metro won't come until this afternoon and more widespread coverage is to the west and northwest and tomorrow, it will be drying out across the state. the storm chance going up at 9:00 and the best potential

accurate forecast. we are talking changes on the first official day of fall as storm chances go up a notch. we are going to see a 40% chance of scattered storms by this afternoon, and the chances will increase through the day. after 9:00, the 10% chance kicks in, and this afternoon, it's 40%. the best timing and best potential will be between 3:00 and 6:00 for the phoenix we'll see the storms firing up to the northwest first and across northwest arizona. storms that develop could be strong and possibility severe. strong winds a possibility and heavier downpours and hail not out of the question especially in the area across northern and northwest arizona. this area highlighted in the dark green and in yellow will be the focus for possibly strong to severe storms from

and if you are traveling to the high country, storms could be stronger up there. but here in the valley, we could get a few isolated stronger storms. we'll be watching for that this afternoon. winds are kicking upstatewide upstate, winds near 20 miles per hour early in the afternoon. a breezy day in the valley. wind advisories will be posted for the northwest pocket of the state, and threat in the upper colorado river event and we have red flag warnings for that area and a flood alert for mojave county. here in the valley, a chance of storms throughout the day. better potential later in afternoon and a high at 90 degrees and notice temperatures will be dropping over the next few days and we'll talk more about the weekend forecast in a few minutes.
