wednesday. details on that rally have yet to be released for clinton's running mate, tim kaine, heads to tucson and thursday -- on thursday. tim kaine will also be in phoenix on thursday for a speech in spanish. the numbers are in. aredale -- arizona signing up nearly 188,000 new voters since august. the state total registration is nearly 3.6 million voters. republicans hold a lead among voters while independents are too far behind. democrats now have more than 1 million our state. this may seem like a big surge but the numbers don't even more when senator. john mccain was running in 2008. as voter registration surges there is no concern over who is registering to vote. katie conner broke this story exposing a potentially big problem.>> reporter: we did digging and we found a man who is not a you a citizen but was able to register to vote

>> the system is all screwed up. >> reporter: this man reached out to abc 15 worried about a problem with the system. won't reveal his name but he has lived in the u.s. legally since the 80s. a few months ago he bet a buddy he could register to vote. he applied online using his true name, social security number and drivers license number. he said the only foxy checked inaccurately was legal us citizen. >> i was sitting in bed and voters card. >> reporter: we contacted the county recorder's office a few days later and investigators called him. >> he's like i'm shocked you got it. he also asked me if i was doing it to protest. i said if you want to call it a protest, it's more just trying to prove a point that you do not have to be a citizen and you can register. >> reporter: this man had no intention of voting. he said he wanted to expose the bigger problem with the system. katie conner, abc 15 news. >> the recorder's office says

walter scott more than 10 years with mcso. a mesa gymnastics coast -- coach accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy that lasted several years. is facing several charges including sexual conduct with a minor. knuckles is due in court in december. we have crime alert in tempe after a student at asu was attacked during an armed robbery. campus police sent out a flyer it happened friday night 10:45. the suspect had a knife and demanded the victim's wallet outside the education lecture hall. the suspect is described as a white man with freckles wearing dark clothing. we're getting a look at that crash a 24th street and osborne. three people were taken to the hospital in this. two in serious but stable conditions. they're working to learn more about the third person. no word what may have caused the cars to collide. a scare in scottsdale in the with frustrated homeowners and a lot of uncertainty.

a warning for drivers. more police on the roads today looking for drunk drivers since it is halloween. police tell us they stopped nearly 500 people statewide this weekend. more than 60 dui arrests were made. this is video from a command post in scottsdale where a man was trying to walk the straight line police say there is plenty of room for fun on halloween. >> i have no problem with people going out to have a good time. just don't forget -- -- just don't get behind the wheel when you do it. >> increased patrols continue

thousands of people whose homes were damaged during last week's earthquakes are being able to get some of their stuff and see the damage. the magnitude 6.6 quake hit the central part of the country. amazingly, no one was killed. there were some injuries. many buildings including churches were badly damaged. a big scare overnight. a spirit airline flight had to be evacuated because of a possible bomb threat in fort lauderdale. you can see some of the people exiting the plane. they had police nearby. one of the passengers described the feeling as they waited three hours on the plane while investigated. >> they would let anybody off. people were threatening to get off the emergency exits. people were threatening to overtake the flight attendants. >> the plane was checked and cleared and the passengers were able to continue want to dallas. now to a second scare, and american airlines flight from los angeles to toronto had to be diverted to denver after the

the flight landed safely and all 100 passengers were able to get off. no one was hurt. we are told airline is working with passengers to try to finally get them to canada. investigators with american airlines are working around the clock, trying to piece together what happened with this fire. a boeing 767 went up in flames in chicago. we now know the turbine broke apart in the engine shortly after takeoff. been moved off of the runway. later today investigators will begin looking at the planes maintenance records. this is something we seem to see every halloween. this racially incidents of the costume now has that student getting death threats. you can see a white student in blackface at a fraternity party this weekend. it was on the campus of the university of central arkansas. that photo went viral as students started expressing outrage. >> right now i know the minority in the black community

[ laughing ]. let's talk about the forecast. good news. after a stretch of record temperatures we're finally going to start to see temperatures trending down over the next few days. you can already te difference you step outside. we are running about 5 degrees cooler in most of our valley cities. i will say this morning we only dropped to 60 degrees, which was nice coming off the 90s this past weekend. if we don't drop below 60 degrees before midnight, which i don't think we will, that will go down as a new record warm low temperature for this morning. something to keep an eye on this afternoon. i don't think we will drop below that. that will be a new record this morning. over the next few days it looks

records. especially in the afternoon. temperatures will be lower. right now sitting in the 70s to low 80s across the valley. tempe at 80. 81 glendale. 81 good year. scottsdale at 80 right now. partly cloudy skies across the state gradually warming. we barely hit 70 in sedona. 56 in flagstaff. 70 lake havasu. we do have some wind across the northern pocket of the state. mainly northeast arizona. when it an hour. we do have wind gusts between 25 and 30 miles an hour in spots like flagstaff and charlotte. this area going to the afternoon, especially is where we will see the stronger breezes continue near 30 miles an hour. here in the valley the wind will be lighter. 5-15 miles an hour. through the afternoon overall not a huge impact. the clouds will stick around. they have moved back in from

stick around. not producing any rain. you can see that as we look at clouds and radar via satellite. just high clouds that will stay around today. we will pull in some of that moisture and keep the clouds around for today and tonight and even tomorrow morning. more sunshine ahead of a storm system that will work its way down the california coast and eventually move into our state by the end of the week and also bring us rain chances. we won't see rain today no impact for trick-or-treating or handing out candy. we wil dry conditions and clouds stick around through tonight and into tomorrow. otherwise, staying dry across the state. by wednesday sunny skies and thursday rain chances return. the best potential will be across the higher terrain thursday into friday. we will bring the rain chances up for the valley. a 10% chance for now thursday into friday. there is a chance we could bump that up further. something we will watch over the next few days. for now keep that in the back

for a killer after a weekend drive-by shooting in a bar parking lot. all new at 11:00, that victim being identified as 33-year-old cody wimbush. wimbush was killed and another man and woman shot. they went to the hospital saturday morning. if you have any information please contact phoenix police or call silent witness. phoenix police releasing the name of the victim involved in another shooting. they say 28-year-old bailey night trailer home at 22nd st. and mcdowell. night died at the hospital. her killer and a motive unknown. everyone made it out safely out of this house fire this morning at gilbert and baseline. crews put out the flames quickly but crews are now working to find out what caused it. crews in the bay area having a harder time with this raging inferno in oakland. the three alarm fire engulfing this three-story building which was under construction flames

nearby residents were forced to leave their homes. thankfully no one was hurt. firefighters do not know what caused the fire. the hunt for a suspected murder in oklahoma is over. michael vance junior who was suspected in a string of violent crimes was shot and killed in western oklahoma overnight. a deputy was also shot in the process of taking him down. vance was wanted for -- for killing his aunt and uncle as well as opening deputies and officers. he filmed two facebook live videos showcasing his crime spree on the run from authorities. i have been worried about him. i am ready to just give them a hug and make sure they are okay. >> teachers across north carolina welcoming students back to class today. the school has been closed for most of the month because of flooding and cleanup from hurricane matthew. for some students this is a big change for down now going to do
