time to enjoy the view.now midday." it's a first alert day as winter weather creates icy conditions on northern nevada roadways. thanks for joining us on kolo 8 news now midday. i'm dave lawrence. the icy roads have been wreaking havoc for drivers all morning ... keeping emergency responders busy dealing ith lots of crashes. this is a rollover that happened around 8 this morning on robb drive between sharlands and mae anne. reno police say the s- u-v slid off the road and rolled into a nearby ravine. the driver was not hurt. n-h-p was also busy responding to crashes this morning on local highways. a major problem area was on i-580 at glendale avenue. the first crash happened around 3:30 ... followed by four more ... all within minutes of

tear gas cannisters firing this was the scene in sparks yesterday morning. police say daniel enriquez barricaded himself and up to 4 hostages in a home near greenbrae and probasco. the standoff started at 7 a.m. enriquez finally surrendered around 1 o'clock. "the swat team deployed a chemical agent or gas into teh residence and at that time mr. enriquez came out peaceably and surrendered to officers on the scene." in addition to the shooting at gold dust west, enriquez was also wanted by reno police for a robbery. a mother and daughter have been arrested after a welfare check found children and animals living in what deputies call "deplorable" conditions. deputies went to the home of 61-year-old kathleen dean and 41- year-old joleen dean in sun valley to check on several animals on the property. deputies say they found animal waste throughout the house. child protective services determined the condition of the home

water authority says a new agreement will drastically increase the amount of water it can save. the truckee river operating agreement went into effect on december 1st. it changes the way water is managed on the river, allowing agencies like tmwa to store more water. mark foree/ general manager, tmwa trt:15 "we already have a strong drought supply in this area prior to troa. with troa, our drought supply is truly exceptional. it really is. and that makes us sleep better at night." troa balances the needs of california, nevada, the pyramid lake paiutes, and tmwa. the writing of the law began in 19-88 under the direction of senator harry reid. it took 27-years to draft something everyone agreed to. ### the price to fill up your car is pretty low historically right now... so with oil prices low too... why are airlines getting ready to raise their prices again!!!!

we have a consumer alert to tell you about this morning. experts say u-s airlines are raising roundtrip fares on domestic flights by 6-dollars -- the highest large scale increase since june of last year. southwest airlines, american, and united -- among other arilines have confirmed the price increase. they say the hike covers corporate, leisure and deeply discounted fares. experts say the increase could be rolled back, but that's unlikely with support from so many airlines. with the holidays behind us, the last thing you want to do is plan another shopping trip, has some of the best deals. according to deal news dot com you should start the year off with new fitness equipment. necessarily more deals on equpiment after the holidays but there are a lot of discounts from a variety of companies. and believe it or not, january is a good month to buy winter apparel. with the prime outerwear buying behind us, retailers will be discounting coats and sweaters like crazy.
