the presidential election, there's a rare focus on arizona today. hillary clinton speaks at asu tonight, and just a short time ago the republican vice presidential nominee mike pence wrapped autopsy speech in mesa. and we were at that rally, and we spoke one-on-one with the vice presidential candidate. what did he have to say? >> reporter: there is no question the crowd was excited, pretty much the entire time, but they were also very tame. we didn't see out. probably the most restless was a couple of times they were chanting lock her up referring to hillary clinton and it all happened here at the mesa convention center. i want to show you video of what it looked like inside that rally that just wrapped up. a rough estimate, but i would guess there were at least 1,500 voters inside the convention center to hear pence speak. some of the big points pence

premiums and replacing it if trump were to take office. he also focused on lowering corporate taxes. he argued that this would help arizona businesses compete on a national and world stage. and when it came to international issues, pence said trump would lead on the world stage adding that he would put forth the required resources to defeat isis. i spoke one-on-one with governor pence moments after today's rally. take a listen. >> with the election x away, people around arizona are really focusing on this is not so much a choice between two candidates, it is a choice between two futures and the people of arizona, a place that has always believed in freedom, rugged individualism and independence sees all of those qualities in an agenda of donald trump. >> reporter: and this was governor pence's fourth visit to arizona. donald trump has been here seven times since his campaign started. back to you. and live in mesa.

campaign visit, this time from the democratic presidential nominee hillary clinton. we have more from the asu campus this afternoon. >> reporter: this is hillary clinton's first visit to the valley. she is hoping to win over some votes in what is usually a very red state of arizona. now it has become a battle ground state and as you take a look behind me, they are literally setting the stage for a hillary clinton speech here tonight. so as you can see, th center. this is where hillary clinton will be speaking here tonight. she will be speaking about the importance of early voting and how arizona voters can still take advantage of in person early voting. and this comes as clinton is dealing with more fall-out, as you know, with the fbi reopening its investigation into her handling of classified material on a private e-mail server while secretary of state. >> if they want to look at some more e-mails, by all means

clealsy was at -- chelsea was at asu recently as first lady, and tomorrow vice presidential candidate tim kaine will extend his tucson visit to be in the area. we're still working on the details on where that will be. today the doors open at 3:30 with hillary clinton to speak here at 6:30 here tonight. >> thank you. and we just got these numbers from the arizona secretary of state, and so far the 1.4 million early ballots. 40.2% come from republicans, 40.2% are from democrats. 25.6% are from third party or inched voters. remember, if you haven't mailed in your early ballot yet, you can drop it off at your polling place next tuesday. a pregnant woman is the the hospital this afternoon after being rescued from a burning car. this happened near 24th street and baseline two cars police say crashed into each other

three others were taken to hospital. they are expected to be okay, we're told. the police are looking into what caused this crash. a valley family forced out of their home overnight when a fire broke out at their apartment complex at phoenix. this happened at 24th street and union hills. the firefighters say the home was destroyed. there is no word yet on what may have started it. the good news is no one was hurt. sheriff joe gentlemen's upcoming contempt of court trial has been postponed a district judge granted his request to delay because he said he needed more time to prepare. the trial was supposed to begin december 6. a new trial date has not been scheduled yet. the sheriff is charged of contempt, accused of defying another order to stop his imcongratulation patrols. he has pleaded not guilty. some people in buckeye are looking for answers about their sky high water bills. they went to city hall last night demanding answers. they say so far all they have gotten are excuses.

bills have skyrocketed. most of them have been told by the city a leak is likely to blame, but they're not buying this. >> if the utility company is not willing to admit there could be another explanation, how can they begin to research this problem and how can they expect the people to believe they're trying to address their concern ? >> we think people are wasting it intentionally? absolutely not. but we think we need to identify where it is. we know it went through the meter, so we have to try to help them find out where he issue is. >> let's hope they figure it out. the city has set up a hotline and an e-mail dedicated to resolving the usage issues and say while it might take some time, they will be sure to get back to everybody. a jury just awarded nearly $3 million to the owner oh after downtown phoenix parking lot all because of light rail construction. don garrickson owns the parking lot rite across from the arena.

back in 2006 after light rail construction cut off two of his driveways. he complained it decreased the value of his property and the jury agreed. well, if you have ever gotten stuck at one red light after another after another, you know how frustrating that can be when the signals are not timed properly. right now there is a group of valley cities adding technologies to dozens of stop lights to help ease that problem. the cities from scottsdale all the way to surprise will be adding stoplights. they rely on human operators to adjust the traffic lights, but this system would automate that. >> and as part of the technology it will let the signals adjust more on a real- time basis without having an operator do those physical changes. >> that would be great, wouldn't isn't it? you hit the jackpot, greens all the way down 7th avenue! the project should be completed by next year. and new at noon, now that

over. 46-year-old scott green was arrested this morning in suburban des moines. the search for green began not long after two officers were found fatally shot in their patrol cars overnight. investigators are calling it an ambush. >> it doesn't look like there was any interaction between these officers, and they shot them while they were in their cars. >> reporter: the first officer was found dead just after 1:00 a.m. local time in urban daly, iowa, the second about 20 minutes later and just two miles away in s >> that is the best we got that we can explain. both of them were in their cars. >> reporter: at daybreak, police named gren a suspect. he was arrested a short time later just miles from the crime scene. the killings were a shock to the quiet community and to the police force which officers describe as a tight knit family. >> des moines is not a big city. we all know each other. so -- i mean, we're heart broken. >> reporter: so far no word on a possible motive. cbs news.

judge is deciding whether or not to allow bill cosby's damaging 2005 deposition to be used as evidence in his upcoming sexual assault trial. cosby is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a former temple university employee, this is back in 2004. coughs beau testified in a civil suit in 2005 and admitted giving her pills before the sexual encounter. his lawyer is claiming he only testified because the former district attorney promised him he would never face criminal charges cosby maintains the encounter was con sensual. the defense is also claiming cosby should not be prosecuted because he is legally blind now and can't identify his accusers. he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. a mom in arizona may have stopped a mass shooting in nevada. she overheard a. kevin: conversation between her child and another teenager online so she called police. this investigation led to a student at desert oasis high

the police searched that student's home and did find evidence, but they haven't released anymore details at this point. >> we have every confidence that the school is safe, that no students are in danger. the student did not appear to have any vendetta against any other student. at this point, it looks like he was acting alone. >> more students have come forward and said they also heard about this alleged plot. the teenager suspect has been charged with terroristic threat. more charges could still be filed. we'll keep you posted on that. and somebody wrecked a mclauren super car in a street racing crash in southern california. the green car you see there was worth about a quarter of a millions. the police believe the driver was racing a dodge charger when he hit a third car and a light pole. the charger driver took off. the police say it is possible he didn't even know about this crash. the two people went to the hospital after this.
