[ inaudible ] >> reporter: survivors of sexual assault shared their stories on the sidewalks today. the group ultraviolet says that holder contains a flash drive with 1.2 million signatures asking the independent state agency that investigates

judicial misconduct to investigate judge aaron persky. >> we hope that they will hear this and agree with us and remove judge persky. >> reporter: he sentenced former stanford star swimmer brock turner to 6 months in jail for sexual assaulting a woman last year. the prosecutor had asked for six years. the survivors say it felt like this. >> and then the judge like you know what? it's fine. it's not fine. it's really not fine because one in four women at college will be raped. >> reporter: there's already a petition to recall judge persky and the local district attorney says he is considering blocking all sexual assault cases assigned to persky's court. the commission cannot change a decision made by a judge but can remove a judge from office. the commission gets about 1200 complaints a year. live in san francisco, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> in the wake of the high- profile stanford ruling, the state senate public safety committee just unanimously

passed a bill to ensure that anyone convicted of sexual assault in california cannot be sentenced to probation. it heads to the senate appropriations committee for a hearing in august. new developments in the attack in turkey. the government identified all but four of the 41 people killed. none of them is from north america. meanwhile, cbs reporter tina kraus explains a u.s. travel warning is raising questions about what authorities may have known before the attack. >> reporter: travelers and workers raced to safety just moments before one of several explosions ripped through the airport in istanbul. another video shows an attacker on the ground after police apparently shot him. seconds later, he blew himself up. >> there was a bomb here. >> wow. >> yeah. he went down and after i just running and maybe close. >> reporter: u.s. intelligence. say the terrorists were armed with grenades, suicide

vests and automatic weapons. the assailant opened fire at the entrance to the international terminal. dozens were killed and more than 200 people were wounded. president obama condemned the attacks while traveling in canada. >> we stand with the people of turkey and we intend to do what's necessary to make sure that these kinds of terrible events are not happening. >> reporter: airports around the world immediately beefed up security following the attacks that turkish authorities are blaming on isis. just this week the use state department warned u.s. citizens about increased threats from terrorist groups in turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern turkey. now that's raising questions about what authorities may have known ahead of the attack. >> it surely seems to suggest there was additional information available to the u.s. government and certainly to the turks that there were threats. >> reporter: the airport in istanbul is reopened as investigators try to determine if anyone may have helped the

bombers. tina kraus, cbs news, london. >> area transportation hubs are working to protect passengers following the istanbul attack. sfo says travelers can expect increased patrolling by uniformed officers. kpix 5's maria medina found out you won't see the changes everywhere. >> reporter: although sfo has increased security, a spokesman from mineta says they will make no changes to security here. >> it's sad for the people that are innocent. >> reporter: just hours before they boarded a plane these travelers say the terrorist attack across the globe weighed heavily on their minds. >> you never know what will happen. >> how is the security going to be this morning? >> reporter: she just flew from l.a. into mineta where a spokesman says travelers won't see any changes in security. >> it's not going to prevent it with more increased security but i know there's security here so i'm okay with that. >> i travel a lot so i mean some things are out of my

hands. >> reporter: security is already visibility at mineta with san jose police and department of homeland security outside and inside at the security line even before going through tsa screeners. >> you can scare some folks with have been too much presence. >> reporter: still others say more is better. >> i feel more safer if knowing that there was, um, higher security. >> reporter: christian yarrow who traveled all over the world believes the answer is not patrols in airports but at a higher level. >> security should be increased at another level, at prevention, not here with us. >> reporter: a mineta spokesman says they work under the direction of tsa and only if the agency recommends increased security will they do so. at mineta, maria medina, kpix 5. a house in hayward up in flames and three children are hurt. firefighters say two boys and a girl were transported to the hospital. the girl's injuries are considered life-threatening.

chopper 5 was overhead as fire crews assessed the damage. the fire tore through the wooded roof above the main entrance. firefighters estimate that 70% of the inside of the house is now destroyed. no word yet on what sparked the fire. crews had to use the "jaws of life." an suv getting off the vehicle hit a vehicle knocking it over. this is it being wheeled out of traffic. we have video of that. the crash happened in the south of market neighborhood around 8:40 to a parking officer. she has minor injuries. in about an hour, bay area lawmakers including former speaker of the house nancy pelosi and east bay congresswoman barbara lee will hold a sit-in for gun control at zuckerberg general hospital part of a national day of action on the heels of the #no bill no break protest staged by democrats on the house floor last week. democrats including nearly 3 dozen from california had a sit-

in on the house floor for 25 hours. they tried to force a gun control vote before the recess for the 4th of july holiday. republicans called that sit-in a publicity stunt. to the race for the white house, presumptive nominee hillary clinton is back in the bay area today on a fundraising swing. we know the event will be in san francisco but the specific location isn't public. clinton's campaign says that it will be a fundraising luncheon with women's rights activists including actress jamie lee curtis. ticket prices range from $500 to $27,000. both hillary clinton and donald trump are speaking out following the attacks in turkey. craig boswell with their messages on fighting terrorism. >> reporter: donald trump reiterated his pledge to fight terrorism with strength after suicide bombers attacked an airport in istanbul. >> we have to stop it. we have to be so strong. we have to fight so viciously and violently because we're dealing with violent people. vicious people! american leaders weak for not doing more to stop terrorism. he says america needs to bring back water boarding. >> i like it a lot. i don't think it's tough enough. so we can't do water boarding but they can do chopping off heads, drowning people in steel cages. they can do whatever they want to do. >> reporter: hillary clinton spoke out against water boarding in the past calling it torture and u.s. military officials say it doesn't work. clinton issued a statement after the turkey bombing saying, today's attack in istanbul strengthens our resolve to defeat the forces of terrorism and radical islam around the world. during a campaign event in los angeles, clinton said trump supporters shouldn't be fooled by his message. >> i understand why people are frustrated and even fearful. but don't look for easy answers and misleading promises that cannot deliver what you're hoping for. >> reporter: clinton and trump are in a virtual tie in the latest national poll.

baskin-robbin's flavor of the month. the so-called "trail-head f in a wildfire in the sierra foothills has spread to 350 acres. the trailhead fire in placer and el dorado counties started yesterday afternoon. its threatening about 400 structures. we have a report from the fire lines. >> reporter: dark plumes of smoke dominate the horizon on top of many bluffs in foresthill. >> i don't know what to do. just kind of, like, what do you do next? you just kind of wait. i'm on standby. >> reporter: jarvis valdez who retired after 30 years at the

campbell soup plant in sacramento moved to his dream home in todd valley three years ago. now he is afraid he may never see it again. >> you know, can't sleep because you wake up smelling smoke because you think the fire is in your backyard. it's stressful. >> reporter: especially for firefighters, who are just trying to access the flames on the front lines. >> this is one of the most difficult times of fire. steep terrain, access is near to impossible if not impossible. >> reporter: it's an aerial attack in those hard-to-reach sections in the middle fork. american river. >> because it's burning in such a remote area we relying on aircraft. air tankers and helicopters. >> reporter: a valuable tool considering this fire could grow, according to cal fire. conditions in june are dry. the grass is dead. the trees are still recovering from five years of drought. especially up here, this elevation, we have pockets of

dead trees. they all are fuel for wildfires. so don't let the calendar fool you and don't let the recent rain fool you. conditions are dry enough to see major fires still. and seeing and smelling smoke, winds have pushed the haze south into placer county in rockland. >> we could smell it late last night. the winds shifted and came down that direction. with the high we got south of us, winds are kicking back down and taking it into the valley now. >> that was sean bennett reporting. the flames are now burning mainly in el dorado county. the fire is 5% contained. you may notice something new next time at san francisco international airport. today the airport is kicking off a construction project to renovate terminal one. this is a live look from our sfo camera. the project cost $2.4 billion. it's set to be fully complete by the year 2020.

starting friday more tolls on the golden gate bridge. fares go up 25 cents. it will cost $6.50 with fastrak and $7.50 for cash. the hike will pay off the five- year deficit of $33 million. uber is promising to keep a closer eye on its drivers. the rideshare company says it's testing new software that uses smartphone sensors to peak over drivers' shoulders. the technology will analyze data and send drivers daily reports over things like sudden acceleration and braking. for now, uber says the new safety program is more of a behavioral check and will not penalize or reward drives. the food and drug administration has approved a new drug considered the first pill to treat all major forms of hepatitis "c." it's made by foster city-based gilead sciences. the company says it can be used by patients with and without liver damage. meanwhile, harsh words from vice president joe biden today at a cancer summit in

marin headlands. it was a very shallow deck of low clouds and fog this morning and towards lunch hour, the clouds thickened. they are still pouring onshore. isn't that a dramatic view? and with that bank of low clouds and fog, we have a robust sea breeze out of the west. temperatures in san jose right now 69 degrees. 78 in livermore compared to 24 hours agrow when we were approaching -- ago when we were approaching 90. oakland 56. 53 san francisco. look at the 40-degree temperature span from lindsay in pacifica at 52 to paul's weather station in brentwood at 92 degrees. that's microclimates coming into play within a 45-mile radius there. winds are blowing out of the west at 15 in san francisco, 18 sfo, 11 pleasanton. it's blustery at the coast right now. inland we have winds up to 20 in fairfield but the air temperature there is much warmer in the 70s and even low 80s. all right so we have the coastal fog and drizzle bright sunshine and cooler inland.
