the biggest storms in history. united blood service asking for donations to make sure those affected have the life saving resources they may need. the nonprofit collected donations at several locations today and they're continuing the drive tomorrow. you can head to one of 3 united blood services locations to donate between 7:00 a.m. and 3 in the afternoon. they do have donation centers in reno, carson city, and sparks. you can save time by filling your health history online out before you head to the donation center. winter weather and more dangerous driving conditions on our -- conditions on our local roads. here's a look outside. lets get a check on our forecast with our meteorologist over in our weather center. kathy. reporter: hi. we are wrapping up all of that active weather you saw. we don't have blizzard conditions. we did see quite a bit of snow last week.

photo that was sent in by ron. meadow. this last 24 hours we've got inimpressive snow totals. lingering right down into the upper single digits. 9 inches at north star. homewood. testimonies. that's above average. we will see that trend continue. right now 44 degrees with those winds out of the west, northwest, roughly 18 miles per hour. with this storm system we saw some wind gusts up to 53 miles per hour. mountain rose registered 50 miles per hour gusts. pleasant valley, 55, we do have good air quality. take a look at your next 24, we will see those cloudy conditions partway by morning and then build back up because we have another weak system

stabbing, you can head to www.mynews4.com. friends and family remember a eureka county deputy sheriff and his nine-year-old daughter this morning. a public funeral happened this morning at summit christian church in sparks. the deputy sheriff was driving his wife and daughter on state route 318 when their truck hit black ice on the morning before thanksgiving. mike and the hailey died on scene. his wife died but spent a month in the hospital with major injuries, including more than 20 fractures. sheriffs officials and members of the marines were there today. >> she was bright and witty. she was sen airbus. she loved athletic things, loved horses horses and dogs and just was a bright addition to a small 200 person community. >> he was talking about hailey there. shelly, the mother. still has extensive recovery to

if would you like to help her out, we have information on how to do that in the trending section of our website, www.mynews4.com. in the next two weeks, drivers can expect to see double or even triple the normal amount of law enforcement. starting this weekend, the nevada highway patrol is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk and impaired driving. they do encourage people, of course, to designate a sober driver if -- driver if you decide to drink or you will be arrested. their increased presence will continue through february 8th. today's 44 annual university of nevada talk drew more people than ever before. the event sold out the pioneer center selling 1200 tickets. 25 speakers and performers takingphage about half of them were locals. ted talks have grown every year and they time break the ice about top takes usually don't

>> everybody's looking at ted talks to jump start conversations. we don't like to talk about things because we're so worried about offending other people. but what you have -- when you have a ted talk, it's a safe place to talk about whatever your idea is. >> and organizers say they're hoping to bring more ted talks to carson city later this year. keep truckee meadows beautiful says they collected nearly 10,000 christmas trees this year. more than 500 volunteers took part in the christmas tree recycling program. this year we partnered with the fire district to offer more drop off locations. the recycled trees will be turned into mulch for parks and people could receive free health care during a series of clinics at the university of nevada reno today. medical students there are hosting the clinic supervised by health professionals. they hosted a women's clinic offering services like pregnancy and std tests as well

they're offering one more free clinic on tuesday, january 26th. that one will focus on general and pediatric services. people can get free physician, checkups, and immunizations. that runs from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the school of medicine's family center. when we return, the road to the 2016 nfl draft started for dozens of athletes that played in the east-west game. coming up in sports, highlights and more.

one right now. again, we're talking about this winter weather out of the east coast pounding the east coast tonight. they're getting feet and feet of snow. they're saying it's supposed to be a historic storm tonight in washington dc and as we mentioned earlier, it already has killed about 17 people at least. that's what the ap is reporting tonight. they're losing power. they're getting flood warnings. it's really not a good scene on the east coast, but i think we are about ready to send it back over to cassy. she's getting set up with a new microphone right now. so lets send it over to cassy wilson for your full forecast. we're going to have to hold on as we go. we'll make it through. we do have some residual showers lingering around here. it's going to dissipate. this is our storm system moving through sunday. it's a pretty weak system. most of that rain and precipitation is going to stay north of the suzanneville line. then gore going -- we're going to watch for clearing skies the

week. weekend. right now in reno, 44 with hour. we're going to see the winds die down today and then -- into the evening and then pick back up tor form -- for tomorrow. current temperatures still in the 40s for the most part. 43 degrees in carson city. 33 degrees up in south lake tahoe. then those winds are starting to die down. we saw very gusty conditions. the last 24 hours had winds up to 50 miles per hour. so lets time out this residual lingering showers on our future cast. nothing is going to make it all the way to the valley floor. there we go. that tiny pulse of energy is going to hit by sunday alt 4:00 p.m. maybe rain and snow to the area and then clear skies for the rest of the week. so it's going date of birth above average week for us and it's going to be clear. tonight, 30 degrees. it is a full moon tonight. if you can get outside and check that out, go for it. but 20% chance of rain before 10:00 p.m. and then mostly cloudy

we do have a 20% chance of rain tomorrow into the afternoon and evening hours. but it's looking like we don't get too much on the valley floor. a nice warm 45 degrees for reasony. across the region only out in elko we are watching for temperatures to be if the upper 30s for tomorrow. snow chances into the afternoon and evening as well as that sport pulse of energy comes into the northern nevada area. central nevada tonight, mostly cloudy skies. tomorrow we're going to be watching for that rain and snow by 4:00 p.m. temperatures up into the 40s for the most part. carson city looking at mid-20s mostly cloudy skies. we do have some lingering showers so some rain and snow before 10:00 p.m. and then by 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. so warming up to that 40 degree temperature. up at the lake, those temperatures are a little bit colder, but that's not going to be the story for the rest of the week. building.

upper 30s, 38 degrees in glen brook with those snow showers hitting by the afternoon. mostly rain for our viewers in suzanneville tomorrow with sunshine as well. so kind of a mix of sun, rain, and clouds with temperatures reaching into the upper 40s. 42 degrees for suzanneville. a little bit warmer on the valley no, sir for tomorrow with that chance of rain rolling into the afternoon hours. we mostly will see that maybe up in the northwestern suburbs. 45 degrees for the reno sharks valley floor. looking at your extended forecast, we are watching this winter storm wind down, but it will linger tonight into blowing. this wednesday through saturday, high pressure average temperatures. we'll keep an eye on that air quality as we do move through the week. so stay tuned and we'll keep you updated on that. thank you. first, your nevada's men's

if we come out and play 80% of what we can, we will not be in the ball game. we have to play near flawless basketball because of their talent level and how deep they are. we're not a deep team. they're 'deep team. they got great talent and they have experienced guys as well. so we have to -- we have to play as well as we played all year to compete with unlv. >> now, boat these teams had ten wins on the season. this unlv team had a great start to the season, even had a top 25 win over indiana. after a slow start, they fired their head coach. since then they have fired off three straight wins. so which team shows up tonight? can nevada keep the way they've been playing? we'll have the reaction for you tonight at 11:00.
